Could Reform really carry out a Trump-style, Project 2025-inspired shock-and-awe assault on Britain's institutions and politics if they get into government? America's much-vaunted system of checks and balances turned out to be made of tissue paper. Is Britain's hand-me-down constitution any more robust? We look at the firewalls in our politics with special guest James Ball of The New World paper. Plus, what did we make of Channel 4's epic Tony Blair documentary? Did it let Tonty off too lightly? And in the Extra Bit for Patreon people: Barack Obama thinks aliens are real. Why do UFOs hold such a weird grip on the political imagination? “There is no British security without Europe,” Keir Starmer told the Munich Security Conference this weekend. Nobody wants a wider war in Europe, but we might get one anyway – and Britain's military isn't ready for it yet. So how can we change our armed forces and our wider society to ensure that Putin won't want to risk a conflict with Britain and our allies? Ed Arnold of the Royal United Services Institute joins Ros Taylor and Raf Behr to talk about how Russia uses hybrid “grey zone” attacks on democracies which stop just short of open warfare… the sobering truth about NATO Article 5… and why we have to budget for the next threat but one, because “What comes after Putin may be worse.” ESCAPE ROUTES • Raf rewatched Terry Gilliam's Brazil. • Ed has been enjoying England in the Six Nations rugby. • Ros recommends the comedy drama about stand-up comedy, Is This Thing On? , out now in cinemas. www.patreon.com/ohgodwhatnow Presented by Ros Taylor and Rafael Behr. First thing on Monday it looked like Keir Starmer was organic sourdough toast. By teatime he'd riled up Labour MPs and looked – somehow – safe for now. Can the PM weather the brutal months ahead? Remember Trump's first term when we talked about “kakistocracy”: rule by the worst of the worst? A forty-year slow-motion disaster in higher education is reaching its climax – and Labour is left holding the bag. If young people decide a degree isn't worth the massive debt, where does that leave British cities that depend on free-spending undergraduate populations – and universities that are hooked on no-longer-welcome foreign students? Can academia expect much sympathy from graduate generations whose aspirations are held back by crushing loan repayments? And can Labour do anything about it? In a fascinating conversation Oxford Brookes history professor and education commentator Glen O'Hara walks Ros Taylor and Hannah Fearn through the unfolding mess. Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts
One famous cartoon featured two vultures sitting on a fence; one turned to the other and said, "I am sick of waiting, let's kill something." When it comes to preventing cyberattacks, the federal government is well known for a defensive approach. They have security systems, air gap systems, and even a zero-trust approach. This defensive approach is essential but may not give the federal government a complete view of how to protect data. Today, we sat down with Chris Jones, Nightwing's Chief Technical Officer. He outlines some of the characteristics of a concept called "offense informs defense." This is a method that Nightwing has developed through over 40 years of working with federal technology leaders. For example, they developed their Counter Trace service, which uses offensive cyber strategies to defend critical infrastructure. The service involves proactively hunting for vulnerabilities, identifying access points, and analyzing digital evidence to expose cyberattacks. During the interview, Jones mentions that the GSA has received this approach well. In fact, Nightwing recently won all six GSA Highly Adaptive Security Services categories. These handle security aspects like Penetration Testing, Incident Response, Risk Assessments, Cyber Hunt, and High Value Asses Assessments. Jones emphasizes the importance of initiative-taking, cybersecurity, AI integration, and collaboration across agencies to adapt to protect federal data.

In this first episode of the Fat Joy Podcast's Creation Lab Capsule Collection, Sophia sits down with singer-songwriter Mary Lambert (she/her) for an honest, energizing conversation about how creativity weaves through her life, often in ways she didn't expect. Mary opens up about the moments when her creative instincts went quiet, the surprising places they re-emerged, and the turning points that helped her reconnect with her own voice.Together, they explore questions many of us wrestle with:How do you stay creative when you're overwhelmed? What do you do when doubt gets loud? And what if creativity is already showing up for you — just not in the ways you've been taught to recognize?Mary shares thoughtful insights about the pressure to “get it right,” the freedom that comes from lowering the stakes, and the tenderness of returning to self-expression after years of self-criticism. She also talks about the specific challenges and possibilities of nurturing creativity while living in a fat body, and how reclaiming creative space can become a powerful act of self-trust.Whether you're trying to restart a stalled creative practice, craving more meaning in your day-to-day life, or simply wanting to hear from someone who's walking that path with intention and honesty, this conversation offers both inspiration and real permission to begin again. To learn more about how you can tap into your creativity and take an idea from napkin scribble to something alive in the world, check out the Fat Joy Creation Lab.
