Patreon Kent's pick this week is an Art Haus movie he was introduced to in German class! The 1976 movie, Kings of the Road, was written and directed by Wim Wenders and stars Rüdiger Vogler and Hanns Zischler. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: Near the Eastern borders with West Germany, Bruno, a solitary, permanent citizen of the road and film projection equipment repairman, witnesses the sad sight of a VW beetle car storming straight into the River Elbe. After a while, however, the depressed driver, Robert, instinctively accepts an offer for a lift in Bruno's repair van, and just like that, an impromptu relationship begins. Now, against the backdrop of the German countryside, the new companions find themselves sharing the same need for freedom, visiting dilapidated movie theatres for maintenance, and getting to know each other one small town after another. But, no one knows, or cares, how long is the road that stretches out ahead of them. After all, the only thing that matters is one's commitment to a precious ideal. We all know, when it comes to driving, it wasn't Kevin getting everyone across state lines… it was the bus drivers! That's why this week, Kevin interviews 5 of his favorite tour bus drivers, and 2 bus company owners, to highlight some of the most ridiculous moments from off of the stage. Whether it's pretending to be a bull and running each other into walls or senior drivers pulling knives on each other, there was never a dull moment when it came to the unique personalities of these road cowboys. Even with all of the chaos, the drivers kept coming back year after year and worked together to succeed in bringing Warped to the punk rock kids in the next city. Plus, Kevin finds out exactly how it went down for the bus companies and drivers when all of the tours started canceling in March 2020. Featuring: Mikey Smith (@hotratts) - Tour Bus Driver Stephen Copeland - Tour Bus Driver Harlow Huggins (@harlowhuggins) - Tour Bus Driver Judi Teggart (@tinytegs) - President - California Coaches Jamie Morral (@jgm_coach_llc) - Founder, Owner - JGM Coaches Walter Trachsler (@fuqet) - Tour Bus Driver
The next time you're tempted to complain about traffic, stop and think about traveling to Texas in the early to mid-1800s when the rush was on! Compared to today, travel was certainly slower and more difficult at best. Train travel wasn't available yet on the routes to Texas. So, unless you were a single person coming on horseback, you needed a covered wagon.
Hop in the Two-Man Booth with Nick & Neil as they discuss the week that was for Edmonton Oilers and discuss the biggest stories around the NHL! For the Opening Draw (1:30) they discuss McDavid hitting 600 points and where that lands him all-time for the Edmonton Oilers and what will ultimately be his legacy, Draisaitl's torrid pace, and what the numbers and what the eye test say about Mikko Koskinen's season so far. Then, they update the Ovie Watch and what could've been (39:20), the 1996 Entry Draft (44:20), and the futility of the Arizona Coyotes this season and if it will be one of the worst seasons in NHL history (51:55). They name their Coach Orion Winners (60:00), UNPRECEDENTED Road Warriors of the Week (65:00), and check-in to the Fantasy Land Motel for some fantasy hockey advice (69:20)! Armed with his trusty King Lawler BabyFace™ Antiviral Mask, Scott Bowden hits the road to Kingsport, Tenn., for a Humongous discussion with area King Beau James. Bowden and James discuss the origins of the Road Warrior Humongous gimmick in Memphis, originating in the mind of Jerry Lawler as Hawk and Animal’s post-apocalyptic pal as the unofficial third member of the treacherous trio, gimmicks based on the “Mad Max” films. Bowden reveals his thoughts on the gimmick as a young fan as well as his interactions years later with the man originally under the hockey mask: his high-school football coach, Mike “the Mule” Stark, a former Memphis State gridiron great and late ’70s-era Memphis grappler. Bowden and James share their knowledge of how the gimmick made its way—sans Stark—to Continental and Ron Fuller’s Stud Stable and how the role was recast. Bowden and James also reminisce about the rib they pulled in Memphis on a USWA hopeful that left one would-be grappler stark naked—and still seething about it years later. All this and more on a Humongous, pandemic-pleasing episode of the KFR Podcast, Vol. 2. Special thanks to Great Scott’s Art Studio for the extra-crispy KFR Bucket in all its glory. KINGS OF THE ROAD!.Mark, Troy, and Nick are recording possibly their earliest episode to date, and we’re watching a once-in-a-lifetime match, where Dustin Rhodes takes on Blacktop Bully in LITERALLY the most dangerous wrestling match of all time: the King of the Road match (from WCW Uncensored 1995), a match that changed the wrestling landscape as we know it today. Appropriately enough, we are pairing it with Two Roads Brewing Company’s ‘Road 2 Ruin’! We also chat Nick’s first deathmatch, Troy coming out of retirement, and Mark (and VSK) getting their medical degrees..If you're not in a mail truck, join us by turning to 3:16 (!) of WCW Uncensored 1995, and enjoy!.Follow along....Twitter: @OffTheHopRopeInstagram: @OffTheHopRopeMerch: https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/smartmarksterling.#beer # craftbeer # beerandwrestling # beerporn # brewerylife # beernerd #brewery # brewerytour # craftbrewery # beersnob #c raftnotcrap # beerlovers # beersofinstagram # neipa # wrestlingpodcast #beer # beerme # watchwrestling # prowrestling #lager # ipa # wcw #RAW #WWE #goldust #blood #deathmatch #outlawmudshow #demolition #dustinrhodes #aew
