Jesus didn't occasionally participate in the sabbath, it was part of his rhythm and routine. Jesus not only understood the importance of rest but that intimacy with and dependence on God is non-negotiable. Jesus “often” withdrew to the wilderness for prayer. It was his “custom” to partake in the Sabbath. Jesus didn't lean into urgency, but intimacy. He was rooted in dependence on the father and so should we! How do we prioritize rest and true dependence on God? This message will teach all of us how to make rest and intimacy with God part of our routine every day and every week.

OVERVIEWIs there a real benefit to a recovery ride or would you be better off just taking the day off completely? Both recovery rides and complete rest are beneficial, but the choice between the two depends on how fatigued you are, your mood, and what else you have going on in your life. Sports science says they accomplish the same thing and are essentially interchangeable. But there are absolutely times when Coach Adam Pulford recommends active recovery (easy ride, walking, yoga, etc.) and other times when he advocates for complete rest. Gresham Harkless discusses his current journey toward franchise brokering, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and rest in professional and personal life. He frames his current day as a "rest day" after running six miles the previous day, recognizing the value of listening to your body and adjusting plans when needed. Gresham discusses planning for the future—both for his marketing business and his franchise brokerage—and acknowledges the personal and professional struggles he's faced. Gresham compares his year to a difficult sports season, drawing a parallel to his favorite football team, the Cowboys, who have also struggled with injuries and underperformance. Despite setbacks, he suggests that sometimes, like in sports, you need to "throw the playbook away" and regroup. Additionally, Gresham points out that sometimes things don't go as planned, and that's okay. Moving forward, he's contemplating taking the next two weeks to rest and reset, especially considering the natural slowdown in leads between Thanksgiving and New Year's. This episode of the Female Athlete Nutrition podcast is with Registered Sports Dietitian and certified intuitive eating counsellor Becca Rick. Becca is a lifelong runner and we spend time discussing her relationship with endurance training and nutrition. She recently completed the Moab 240-mile ultramarathon, prompting a discussion about her fueling before and during, as well as her training, sleeping and race logistics. This includes fueling training, tapering and rest days, the importance of rest days, and pre-competition nutrition strategies that can be applied to anyone preparing for an athletic event or competition. Becca and I dive into intuitive eating as an athlete–yes, it's possible!–and why it's not the “hunger-fullness” diet. We give listeners tips for making intuitive eating work for you that do include planning and conscious thought about fueling your sport. Becca talks about being a dietitian for elite speed skaters, helping fuel the speed and power demands of their sport, and tackling the topic of power-to-weight ratio. Becca opens up about past struggles with binge eating disorder and exercise dependency, and how she wishes she had help from a sports dietitian during recovery. We ask what “normal eating” really means and define being recovered. Becca's recovery story highlights the non-linear journey to healing, but that it is possible! We've reached another rest day of the Tour de France, which means it's time to look back on all the excitement from the second week, and ahead to the third and final week, all on the Velo Podcast. Tadej Pogacar's dominance in the Pyrénées has been mind-blowing this past weekend as he took two mountain stages in a row. And the second week at the Tour has been fast and aggressive, with breakaways struggling to stay clear. UAE Team Emirates has shown impressive tactics and teamwork, while Visma-Lease a Bike has fought hard but struggled to match an untouchable Pogačar. Host Hannah Knapp, Velo European Correspondent Andrew Hood, and former pro cyclist Bobby Julich take us through a full discussion of the latest from the Tour, including: Can Pogačar play defense now that he has a comfortable lead? Where Visma-Lease a Bike goes from here. Remco Evenepoel's excellent showing so far. Can Primož Roglič ever win the Tour? What to expect from the sprint stage on Tuesday. A look ahead at the mountain stages. Covid in the 2024 Tour de France. A quick check in on the American riders, including Matteo Jorgenson.
It's a beautiful rest day in Orléans and Caley, Jonny, and Iain bring you a week one vibe check plus a big ol' bag of mail. For the full episode, sign up at escapecollective.com/TDF or, if you're already a member, click here.
Welcome back to The Rest Day with Jack Haig. This is another solo episode, a life update of sorts, as Jack prepares to take on the 2024 Tour de France.
In this episode, Jack catches up with Ineos' young climber Carlos Rodríguez from the Parador Hotel on Tenerife, where both are located for an altitude training camp before the Tour de France. The two discuss the hardest days they've had on camp, life at altitude, how Rodriguez prepared (and what he overcame) for his Tour de France stage win last year, his university degrees, and more.
