Andrew Snyder is a film guy, and he loves this little flick about the difficulties of being a single dad. It's a meditation on grief and family, or something? Maybe we need to watch it again. By the by, Dean and John Stockwell? No relation

The standout addition: “Mother,” a 2020-recorded track originally cut from the 2024 original Chromakopia—Tyler's diary-like exploration of monogamy pressures, fatherhood fears, identity, and introspection. Debuting #1 on Billboard 200 with 299,500 first-week units (platinum-certified), Chromakopia held the top spot for 3 weeks, spawning Hot 100 hits “Noid” (#10), “St. Chroma” feat. Daniel Caesar (#7), and “Sticky” feat. GloRilla, Sexyy Red & Lil Wayne (#10). Tyler calls “Mother” the grounding piece, inspired by 2020 bike rides through Inglewood and maternal conversations redefining “home.” Post-release, he dropped ninth album Don't Tap the Glass (July 2025, another #1) and debuts in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme alongside Timothée Chalamet. Analytic Dreamz analyzes Tyler's 15-year evolution from Bastard (2009) to career peak, global tour with Lil Yachty & Paris Texas, and creative restlessness. Yes, it's been a while and there is no more perfect film to return back to my routine than Paris, Texas from 1984.This is my first ever watch and it would be an understatement to say that it's been a long time since cinema has moved me the way this did. I always have seen stills and thought it was from a fashion shoot or a photo spread and to see these images in motion. It had me thinking of my own relationship with photography and how I adore the cinematography of Robby Müller.I get into how I was in the perfect place to absorb this , the overwhelming nature of the scope of the story, a strong third act, and fashion visuals that will stay with me for a while.*recorded August 2024 ---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! TVC 703.1: Part 2 of a conversation that began last week with Joseph Atkins, author of Harry Dean Stanton: Hollywood's Zen Rebel, a deep dive into the life and times of the angular-faced character actor who became a leading man in the 1980s (most notably, with Paris, Texas and Repo Man). Topics this segment include how the success of Paris, Texas paved the way for Stanton's singing career (even though his music background stemmed from his upbringing in Kentucky); the back story of how Stanton came to play Roman Grant in Big Love; how Sam Shepard was instrumental in director Wim Wenders casting Stanton in Paris, Texas; and how the word “Zen” came to be associated with Stanton. Harry Dean Stanton: Hollywood's Zen Rebel is available through University Press of Kentucky as well as Amazon.com.
In this episode, we dive deep into Wim Wenders' haunting 1984 masterpiece Paris, Texas. We unravel its themes of loss, redemption, and the search for connection as we follow Travis Henderson's silent journey across the American desert and into the fractured memories of his past. We'll explore how the film uses stark landscapes to mirror inner emptiness, how Ry Cooder's iconic slide guitar score shapes the mood, and why Harry Dean Stanton's quiet, heartbreaking performance remains one of cinema's greatest. From the film's mythic Americana to its intimate portrayal of family, we'll break down why Paris, Texas continues to resonate as a meditation on love, absence, and healing.YouTube Video Essay mentioned this episode:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2B_mRW8OOQ&ab_channel=It%E2%80%99sJustCinemaFeel free to email at silverscreenvideopodcast@gmail.com with any comments or thoughts. This week, Bryan and Mario dive headfirst into the swirling chaos of corporate scandal and pop culture mayhem. First up? The CEO of Astronomer and the head of HR get caught in a steamy bear hug on the Kiss Cam at a Coldplay concert…and let's just say the Human Resources irony is off the charts. Now the CEO's soon-to-be ex-wife is lawyering up, and we're calculating just how many Tesla's and lake houses she's about to walk away with. Then, is this the end of late-night as we know it? With Stephen Colbert reportedly on the chopping block at CBS, Bryan and Mario debate what's killing the format — and who (if anyone) can save it.In a more somber moment, they honor the legendary daredevil Felix Baumgartner, who once jumped from space and now leaps into the history books after his passing. RIP to a man who laughed in the face of gravity. To round things out, Mario — hyped for his weekend escape to Holland, Michigan — brings a list of the most oddly delightful U.S. towns named after faraway lands. Ever been to Paris… Texas? Dublin… Ohio? Or maybe you're more of a Cairo, Illinois kinda listener. It's gossip, goodbyes, and global geography all in one beautifully chaotic episode.

Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset talk to Ben Luke about their influences—from writers to musicians, film-makers and, of course, other artists—and the cultural experiences that have shaped their lives and work. This is the first episode of A brush with featuring an artist duo. Over the past 30 years Elmgreen and Dragset have consistently created unexpected scenarios within and outside of the museum and gallery structure. Playful, even mischievous at times, and yet shot-through with searing critique and sincere expression, their sculptures and environments are fundamentally concerned with space, both private and public, and the people and communities that occupy it. Elmgreen was born in 1961 in Copenhagen and Dragset in 1969 in Trondheim, Norway. They now live and work in Berlin. They discuss the influence of Hannah Ryggen and Vilhelm Hammershøi, Michael's meeting with Felix Gonzalez-Torres and his effect on their work, and how they feel their work relates to Samuel Beckett's writing, and the final, moving scene of Wim Wenders' film Paris Texas. Plus, they give insight into their lives in the studio and answer our usual questions, including: what is art for?Elmgreen & Dragset: L'Addition, Musee d'Orsay, Paris, until 2 February 2025; Elmgreen & Dragset: Spaces, Amorepacific Museum of Art, Seoul, 23 February 2025; K-BAR is open now at Khao Yai Art Forest, Thailand; Nurture Gaia, Bangkok Art Biennale, Bangkok, Thailand, until 25 February 2025. The gang wanders through the desert this week, as they review the Win Wenders classic American film, Paris Texas (1984). Winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1984 Cannes Film festival, this hypnotic and engaging story of Travis (a self exiled loner of society) coming back to the real world is made real through the direction and vision of the master, Win Wenders. Most casual movie lovers have heard of this movie and may have seen the famous 2-way glass scene near the end... and many more would consider this a movie that feels like homework. Do Tyler and Pete feel like it was a homework movie, or are they glad they watched it? Tune in to find out. No Joseph this week, as he is camping this weekend.
