That's right folks! The time has come for Emma and Katie to discuss the 2014 rom com satire: They Came Together. There's jokes! There's movie stars! There's bits on bits on bits! It's the movie which when you google it the first thing to come up is "Is They Came Together worth watching?" The short answer is yes. It absolutely is.
We're celebrating 100 episodes this week by returning to not one but two recurring themes from nearly two years of the podcast: the filmography of Steve Martin and the belief that February belongs to romance -- two concepts that combine decently well with some magical realism in our movie of the week, an absurdist take on life and love in Los Angeles that still feels like a cutting send-up of the city more than 30 years later. It's 1991's L.A. Story, directed by Mick Jackson, written by Steve Martin, and starring Martin, Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Pollak, Patrick Stewart, Frances Fisher, Iman, Larry Miller, Woody Harrelson, Rick Moranis and John Lithgow. So tonally cartoonish that it feels Martin is moments away from being crushed by a grand piano and popping out the top of it unscathed at any moment, that silliness conceals an earnest goodness about love, the universe, and everything finding a way to work out as it should. Are these beliefs that go hand-in-hand with the movie's wacky exterior, or does the film find itself at odds with itself? Find out, as we dive into a movie Hayley recently picked up on VHS. Plus: J Mo's still sore from having climbed into the wrestling ring over the weekend! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, L.A. Story is currently streaming for free on the CTV app in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include the video games Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Balatro, as well as TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Only The Brave, 24, The Departed, The Nice Guys, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Jurassic Park, the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy, the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy, A Goofy Movie, Bowfinger, The Lonely Guy, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Tooth Fairy and They Came Together. Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues next week as we run it back for another 100 episodes beginning with Nicolas Cage and Cher in 1987's Moonstruck, which may be the most readily available film we've ever covered as it's currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla as we release this. Thank you so much for listening for 100 episodes, or however long you've been on the ride. We love you, and see you at the movies!!

#186 The Creator, It Lives Inside, They Came Together Welcome to spooky season! While the films reviewed this week only have one horror flick, they all have something horrifying to demonstrate. It Lives Inside is a horror film that reckons with a different culture and demons in America. They Came Together displays and spoofs on the horrors on trope romantic comedies with a tool that's simultaneous blunt and sharp. The Creator is a world set on fire with an AI war as the great American military might tries to stomp out the hordes of a new race. A sleeper hit as far as we're concerned, we discuss the criminally underrated and painfully funny "They Came Together" from 2014, directed by David Wain and starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. Seriously. This movie is hilarious.

Our first ever requested movie and most certainly the last. We came together in agreeing that the movie was funny but also quite ridiculous. Much like the idea of letting someone pick a movie for us to watch. Never again. In this episode, we discuss the 2014 movie, They Came Together. Which is available on Amazon. Directed by David Wain. Starring Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, and Bill Hader. Every movie we discuss will be available on either: Netflix, Hulu, HBO MAX, Youtube, or Amazon Prime. You can request movies by emailing us at specrapular@gmail.com We are going to take a month break before our next season. We will announce on social media the next movie we watch. Thanks for listening! Intro music by: Luis. Outro music by: Cairo Braga - Revision of the Future
Happy Halloween friends! Here is the second episode in October and don't be mad...but it's a comedy. Right? Weird...but it's worth it. Chris brought a great film to the table with David Wain and Michael Showalter's They Came Together starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. While comedic in nature, there are some Halloween/horror based scenes. We promise. Also, you'll get a little Halloween Ends talk, and Justin and Chris' top 5 comedy films as a fun edition. So go on and grab the Halloween candy, crack open the fall beverage, and enjoy the discussion about one of the funniest films in recent years.
Career Q&A with Christopher Meloni. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Variety. Washington, D.C. native Christopher Meloni studied acting at the University of Colorado, Boulder, before graduating with a degree in History. He worked in construction and as a bouncer before breaking into acting, studying his craft in New York with legendary teacher Sanford Meisner. His television breakout role was on “NYPD Blue,” opposite Kim Delaney. That led to being cast on HBO's gritty landmark series “Oz,” playing the psychotic, bisexual serial killer, ‘Chris Keller.' In 1999, Meloni landed his starring role on the popular and long-running NBC series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” with the actor working in both series simultaneously until “Oz” ended its 6 year run in 2003. He continued on “Law & Order: SVU” for twelve seasons, earning an Emmy nomination for his performance as Detective Elliot Stabler. Meloni then returned to HBO in a pivotal arc as the head of the Vampire Authority, ‘Roman,' in Alan Ball's wildly popular drama, “True Blood;” and as Julie Louis-Dreyfus' trainer, ‘Ray,' in “Veep.” Meloni is currently co-starring in the Netflix limited event series, “Wet Hot American Summer” which is the prequel to the cult film in which he also co-starred. Meloni's other big screen credits include the August 2015 Sony Classics release, "Diary of a Teenage Girl " with Kristen Wiig; Greg Araki's "White Bird in a Blizzard"; "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For"; "Man of Steel"; "42"; "They Came Together"; "Small Time"; the Terry Gilliam films "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and "Twelve Monkeys"; the Wachowskis' first film "Bound"; the romantic comedy blockbuster "Runaway Bride"; "Nights in Rodanthe"; and such cult favorites as "Wet Hot American Summer", "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle", and its first sequel, "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay".
Last week, we discussed the affectionate blaxploitation spoof "Black Dynamite" and this week we're wrapping up this entire season of The Shirley Chronicles by returning to director David Wain, the heir apparent to Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker, with Wain's closest analog to "Airplane!": "They Came Together". It's a tale that involves Dry Sweltering American Summers, jokes designed to test the patience of audiences, crushes that have yet to dissipate, and last-minute wraparound segments.Ryan's Recommendation(s); "Edge of Tomorrow" (2014)For every single episode at least a week early and great biweekly bonus episodes, become a Patreon subscriber. We're back, and we're covering it all—from J.K. Rowling to J.K. Simmons. And no, we are not jk. In all seriousness, tune in for our thoughts on camouflage, strange state monikers, Long Island's North Fork, real North forks, the slowest disaster movies ever, and more. Today's roster truly runs the gamut—from the Kardashians, LGBTQ rights, and a Stevie Nicks soundcheck, to the real reason why nobody came together to see They Came Together in theaters. This week's burgers are both bangin' birthday bashes. And not to split hairs, but we explore that fine, fine line between ASMR and competitive eating.
Listen closely as we chat about Ashley Olsen's hiking machete, identical movies about identical twins, Scientologists who tweet, country mice, Mafioso landlords, environmentalism, and more. We'll reminisce about two historic World War II ships, walk you through some of Robin Tunney's best films, and ask the age-old question: is Avril Lavigne in on the joke? Our favorite burgers include a hand-beaded family heirloom and an Australian music producer. Plus, is A Quiet Place actually a long-lost Look Who's Talking sequel?

Chris Wall • Nehemiah 8 ESVDuring the time of Nehemiah, God's people CAME TOGETHER to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem in 52 days. In just over two months, this group accomplished more than many communities of faith accomplish in a lifetime. How did they do it? The answer is found in the historic call of God's people: They CAME TOGETHER. This “next to me” mindset repurposed their relationships and ultimately changed the world. Through these relationships they restored the city from rubble to repaired. These relationships provided security and safety against opposition as families became protectors of their community. These relationships gave tithes and forgave debts. These relationships provided the context for spiritual growth and commitment to the Lord. When you step back and look at Nehemiah 8, this is the type of community you and I need in our lives. We need to be a part of a fully devoted, ever-committed group of people who are sold out to God's word and God’s purposes. God provides key people to play key roles in life to ensure spiritual growth. God is using His Word and the gift of our church family to help us live today as the people of God.

Join Anthony and Livia as they talk about video games and Livia's pick, They Came Together (2014).
With the flourish of Scary Movie sequels and Friedberg/Seltzer productions like Meet The Spartans and Date Movie, the spoof hit rock bottom a few years ago, but our Movie Of The Week discussion of Airplane! and David Wain’s new rom-com riff They Came Together inspire a fresh look at the art of film comedy’s least respected subgenre. Another near-future MOTW (and Greatest Blockbuster poll winner), Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, has earned praise for keeping the shark off screen until the final third, but we question whether the decision to withhold information from an audience is always the right one. The game this week is “Oh, Roger,” which digs into the reviews, positive and negative, where Roger Ebert broke radically from consensus. And finally, Tasha Robinson and Nathan Rabin square off in the recommendation octagon that is 30 Seconds To Sell.
Don't call him a cynic. David Wain may totally tear apart the romantic comedy genre in his new film They Came Together, but he does it lovingly.
