We have finally made our way through the entirety of Season 19, the first run of Peter Davison as the Doctor. You all know what that means!!! It's time for our customary season retrospective, in which we look back at the entire season, using a blend of awards, metrics, and questions from our friends on social media to make our thoughts known… And man, do we make our thoughts known this time around. As always, this was a lot of fun for us to do so we hope that you enjoy listening to this as much as we did making it. Join us as we discuss whether or not Reilly owes our listeners drink when they purposefully try to gross out Diana by using her “favourite” Doctor Who phrase (don't worry, we won't spell it out here), who actually votes for Adric's death as being the best moment of the season, who should sport a carrot on their lapel (Troughton or Baker), and how we all want a TARDIS crew who just LIKE each other. And of course, please let us know if pairing up the Dickie (awarded to Bidmead) with the Cumming just made sense this season, or no. If you would like to watch along with us, you can find the entirety of the season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). Sheriff Kevin J. McConville passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, Aug. 22, 2025. He was exactly where he wanted to be: in his bed, in his home, surrounded by his family. He was 68 years old. McConville was a lifelong resident of Cold Spring. He was born on Jan. 31, 1957, and raised in the village, where he lived with his parents, former Mayor Ronald McConville and Marjorie "June" McConville, and his siblings, Barbara, Ronnie and Dickie. McConville graduated from Haldane High School in 1975 and received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Marist University. In 1982, he married his high school sweetheart, Janice Brigati, and together they raised their three children - Ryan, Kylie and Ilana - in the same house he grew up in, in the village he adored. McConville was a man of devotion: to his family, his friends, his community and to his work. He was a proud police officer, a career he treated with unflinching reverence and respect. With more than 30 years of service in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department, he began his career as a patrolman, rising through the ranks to become the first member from the agency to be appointed chief of police in 2005. Prior to becoming chief, McConville was first deputy chief, captain of the District 6 Command, captain of the Department Manual Development Team and held roles as sergeant, lieutenant and detective, as well as executive officer in various units. During his tenure as chief, he created the Interagency Counter Terrorism Team, worked closely with the FBI and members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force and created a 50-team canine (K9) unit. He managed the MTA's response at Grand Central on Sept. 11, 2001, coordinating alongside local and state police agencies to ensure Grand Central, railways and subway lines were safe and secure. He was chief during the London and Madrid bombings, where he assisted the MTAPD response and developed strategies and deployment plans that were instrumental to maintaining public safety and security. He was also a member of the Governor's Homeland Security Team. After retiring as chief in 2008, he served as director of security at Hudson Valley Hospital Center (now NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital) in Cortlandt until 2020. In 2021, he was elected sheriff of Putnam County, where he was incredibly proud to serve the community and county that he loved. Under his leadership, he improved working conditions for the men and women of his department by implementing safer, more efficient and appropriate services such as a new records management system and a new jail management system. He ensured that a radio communication system, which was years in the making, went into effect and obtained new vehicles for officers. He routinely worked with schools and leadership teams to keep students and faculty safe and partnered with local mental health and domestic violence organizations to provide support, services and resources for those in need. In December 2024, McConville and the Sheriff's Department achieved Division of Criminal Justice Services State Accreditation in Law Enforcement, a major achievement and benefit to all county residents. In addition, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Response Team met the standards for SWAT Team Certification. The Sheriff's Department became the only agency in Putnam County to receive DCJS accreditation, let alone two certifications. McConville was a public servant in every sense of the word, devoting his life to serving others with integrity, courage and compassion. He was a trustee of the New York State Sheriff's Association and a lifelong member of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, the New York State Fraternal Order of Police, Stephen P. Driscoll Lodge No. 704, the Hudson Valley 10-13 Association, Knights of Columbus Council No. 36318 and the Brewster Elks Lodge No. 2101. His family was exceptionally proud of his professional achievements, but at hom...

If you go way back thousands of years, you can actually read a historical account of a guy named Bezalel. In this account, it says that God gave him a skill—the ability to build, to create craftsmanship in all sorts of crafts, and also to teach. At Business On Purpose, we are firmly convinced that God has given each of us a capability—or multiple capabilities—to do certain things. But within that, we also lack capabilities in other areas. Yet as business owners, we often spend a lot of time doing things that drain energy from our souls. What we want to do is help you focus on your narrow brilliance so you can be liberated from chaos and make time for what matters most. Hey, it's Scott PB with Business On Purpose. Be sure to check out the Dickie and Donnie Show on this Business On Purpose thread—it's a great podcast put together by two of our guys. Anyone will love it—business owners, key leaders, even your kids. Now, let's talk about how to build a chaos-free operating system so that we business owners and key leaders can focus on what gives us energy and is the highest and best use of our time. A lack of documented process can lead to chaos. When processes exist only in our heads, we create bottlenecks that limit our team's ability to function efficiently and independently. That leads to the common refrain: “Nobody does it like I do” or “It's just easier if I do it myself.” While that might feel true short-term, it's a recipe for long-term inefficiency and stunted growth. Clarity is what your team craves. I want to repeat that—clarity is what your team craves, regardless of generation: Gen Zers, Millennials, Xers, Boomers—it doesn't matter. Clarity combats chaos in your operations. When you document your processes—through video, audio, or written templates—you provide your team with tools to perform consistently and confidently. Clarity not only boosts efficiency but also improves job satisfaction and retention among the team members you actually want to keep. As a business owner, you must recognize the true value of your time. Grab a pen and paper—research shows the average business owner's time is worth at least $200/hour. That means when you handle tasks that could be delegated, you're costing your business money. For example, if you're going to the bank or processing payroll—jobs that someone earning $20–$30/hour can do—you're losing $170–$180 of value every hour. That's why well-documented processes are so important. When you share your methods, you create opportunities to delegate to more cost-effective labor. It saves money, lets others contribute, and frees your time for high-value activities. Just recently, I recorded five or six processes on video—hit record, explained what I was doing, stopped the recording, and uploaded it to a folder linked to a process doc. Now, our implementation assistant uses it over and over again. That's how we create scalable systems. As your business grows, you can onboard new team members thoughtfully and maintain consistency. Scalability is essential for sustainable growth and helps reduce the chaos that usually comes with expansion. The goal isn't to remove yourself completely from operations, but to strategically spend your time where it adds the most value. By documenting and training others in your processes—and consistently following up—you'll build a more efficient, profitable, and less chaotic business. You'll leverage your expertise and spend time in your narrow brilliance while empowering your team to handle the day-to-day tasks that energize them, even if they drain you. Do it all with confidence and competence. Got questions? Go to businessonpurpose.com/ask and schedule a 15- to 20-minute call with one of our coaches—no strings attached. If you want to be liberated from chaos and make time for what matters most, just ask. We'll help you get what's in your head out into a documented system. As Michael Gerber said, “If it's not written down, it doesn't exist.” Go to businessonpurpose.com/ask and let us help you. Gary Cohen explains Dicky Lovelady coming to the Mets. The Yankees also lost again to the Reds and Jazz Chisholm got thrown out for chirping at the ump even when he took the field. Chase Burns made his MLB debut and struck out the first five Yankees he faced.
Amidst a heatwave, the Mets face a "Defcon 5" losing streak, despite a favorable pitching matchup. Joe Benigno scored his fourth hole-in-one. Sean Manaea's rehab is set back by loose bodies in his arm. The Yankees also lost, with Jazz Chisholm ejected. Chase Burns dominated his MLB debut. The NBA draft is tonight, with two potential top-5 Rutgers picks. Aaron Rodgers plans a private retirement. Super tall intern Zach's picture caused a social media stir.
The Break Room (TUESDAY 6/24/25) 8am Hour 1) If they don't ask, do you have to offer? 2) Bring back the old school barber! 3) Call me "Dickie"
In preparing for this recording, it just gave me a total PTSD flashback to the pandemic. And we had the Great Resignation. Oh, my goodness. At the time of this recording, it's 2025. I was just thinking about that, and I was also thinking about this idea that once we find a great teammate—a great team member—we want so badly to keep them. I think about the NCAA collegiate coaches right now and what they're having to do, working so hard not just to find new talent, but to keep the talent they already have. It's so easy for these players to go back and forth. So let's talk about this idea of retention in your business so that you can make sure to retain the right talent—the talent that is really offering a lot of value not only to the business and the mission itself, but also to the actual team members. They're finding joy in their work. So let's see if we can liberate you from chaos by helping you retain the right talent. It's Scott Beebe with Business On Purpose again. Go check out the Dickie and Donnie Show on this thread, that wonderful podcast that Shawn and Brandon, two of the coaches here at Business On Purpose, have been building for you. We've got a lot of people listening to it. Super fun. Alright, let's talk about retention. To retain talent, you've got to learn to invest time in deep, meaningful conversations. Now, I realize I've just lost a lot of you. Some of you might just turn this podcast off because you're thinking, That is not within my wheelhouse. Listen—people crave attention. You do, too. I do, too. We crave connection. When we feel disconnected, we're likely to go look somewhere else, no matter how rewarding the work itself might be. You might go, Well, this is my ideal job. Yeah, but it's not my ideal culture. So one effective way to foster connection is through what we call the Big 5 Feedback Loop. It's a concept you've heard me mention before on this podcast, and it's inspired by the Big Five safari animals in Africa. And to be honest, I don't really remember what they are—I'm sure there's probably a lion and a giraffe and an elephant or something like that—but you can look them up. The Big 5 Feedback Loop consists of five elements that are crucial for small business success. Just imagine a loop with five points on it. 1. Team Meeting This is a weekly, one-hour gathering led by a leader with a set agenda. It's not new—but it's intentional. One hour, agenda-driven, leader-led. During this meeting, you celebrate big wins, review what we call the "anchor" (the essential culture-building elements in your business), do training, give handbook reminders, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, and review the upcoming 4, 8, 12, and 16-week calendar. Most people forget to do all that because we get too busy talking about daily tasks and sales. You also discuss your 12-week goals—three quarterly objectives—and you touch briefly on each business system (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Admin) at a high level. This is NOT the time for project-level problem solving. That comes later. 2. Departmental Meetings These are weekly, one-hour sessions focused on specific business systems or departments—Marketing, Sales, Ops, Admin. If you need to combine Marketing and Sales because you're small, that's okay. These meetings dive into repetitive elements and results. In your Operations meeting, for instance, this is where you talk job-by-job and get into production details. But this is the only place to do that. 3. Executive Meeting This meeting is for your high-level leadership team. Even in a small business, it's valuable to zoom out and take a bird's-eye view of things once or twice a month. You talk about strategy, big-picture issues, and alignment. 4. One-on-One Check-ins These are short, 15-minute meetings with each team member, ideally once or twice a month. They follow a five-question format: What big win do you have from this month? What are you seeing and thinking right now? What blind spots do I have? What do you need from me? Here's what I see and what I need from you. (Note: The fifth one is a statement, not a question—this is where you provide feedback.) 5. Annual Performance Review This happens once or twice a year. What makes it work is that it's two-way. Half the review is your evaluation of the team member, and the other half is their self-assessment. You can use the same set of questions for both, usually delivered in a form ahead of the meeting. If you'll implement the Big 5 Feedback Loop—Team Meetings, Departmental Meetings, Executive Meetings, One-on-One Check-ins, and Annual Reviews—you create multiple intentional touchpoints for communication and connection. When you do that, you build a strong, engaged team that feels valued and understood. And when people feel seen and heard, retention becomes less of a challenge. Yes, there will always be challenges—we're working with people, after all—but you can reduce turnover, increase trust, and ultimately improve your business performance. Got questions about the details? Head to businessonpurpose.com/ask. If you're a business with three or more employees and a million dollars or more in revenue, and you really want to grow, go there. Each of our coaches sets aside 15–20 minutes a week to answer your questions—no strings attached. And if you want to know how to work with us? (00:00:00) The Atheist Experience 29.21 with Secular Rarity and Scott Dickie 2025-05-25 (00:10:43) Hannah - MS | Materialism And Physicalism (00:43:43) Watcher 215 - PA | Love Is The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit (01:03:18) Paul - AZ | Foundherentism And Munchhausen's Trilemma (01:25:50) James - (CA) | Proof Of Evolution? (01:45:04) Ulrich - (MX) | Church Is Evidence For God Hannah calls in from Mississippi to talk about materialism and physicalism. The hosts say that they mostly subscribe to methodological and practical materialism. Hannah argues that the hard problem of consciousness undermines materialism. She says that materialism denies the existence of consciousness as a nonmaterial thing. The hosts point out that it's only a problem if you presuppose that consciousness is immaterial. Hannah believes that consciousness is immaterial because you can't observe consciousness. She shifts the burden of proof by saying that she would need to see a falsifiable experiment that shows the material nature of consciousness. It isn't our responsibility to prove a counterexample to a claim without evidence.Watcher 215 from Pennsylvania calls in to talk about his relationship with the holy spirit as evidence for god. The hosts explain that believers in other religions use the same evidence as proof of their gods, so it isn't convincing. Watcher says that if other people got the same benefits as him from other religions, he would have to seriously investigate those religions. What if people also get the same experience from leaving religion? If you want people to believe in a specific god, you need to narrow down the evidence to show that religion/god is the correct one. Watcher uses circular reasoning and says that he knows that love is the fruit of the holy spirit, and he knows that by believing the word of the bible. Paul from Arizona calls to talk about the hosts' ground for knowledge. What is the ontology behind the hosts epistemology for the grounding of knowledge about their atheist worldview? Paul and the hosts discuss Foundherentism (a blending of coherentism and foundationalism), Munchhausen's trilemma, and theories about infinite regress. The hosts say that there can't be an infinite future without the possibility of an infinite past as well. Paul thinks that there needs to be a start to something, so there can't be an infinite past because it would eventually run into a starting point. But why does there need to be a start?James in Canada starts with the premise that all we know is that we are here and we don't know how we got here. The hosts can agree that they are here and it's not 100% known how we got here. James says that there is no proof, but the hosts can't totally agree to that. There is solid proof about evolution and the genetic code, etc. James points out that evolution is a theory and describes a theory as an idea that may be true but isn't proven. However, in scientific communities, it has a different meaning. A scientific theory is pretty much a fact. When asked, James says that you can't have evidence of god, but he also believes that we shouldn't believe evolution if there was no evidence for it. If we're held to that standard, why isn't religion as well?Ulrich from Mexico claims that the existence of churches proves that God is real. The bible says that there will be churches for God, so the fact that there are churches means the bible is true. He says that no other holy books have fulfilled prophecies. When asked for an example of a fulfilled biblical prophecy, he brings up a prophecy of Jews returning to Jerusalem before the end of days. Does he think the end times are happening right now? He says maybe. When arguing his case, Ulrich couldn't engage in an honest conversation, so he got hung up on.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-atheist-experience--3254896/support.
