Welcome back to The Lawcast! This time our hosts cover King of the Ring 1996, a fascinating show from the very early stages of the Attitude Era.Shawn Michaels is the WWF Champion but his best friends Scott Hall and Kevin Nash have left for WCW. For lack of better options, Michaels is put in a feud with The British Bulldog and they try to spice it up by involving Bulldog's wife Diana with disastrous results. Mick Foley has debuted as Mankind and will face The Undertaker for the first time on this night. Steve Austin, Vader, Jake Roberts, and Marc Mero vie to be King of the Ring. And The Ultimate Warrior faces Jerry Lawler in a comically bad match.
New new free shows will be back very soon, but remember that we've been back doing weekly content on our Patreon page for a while during the free show hiatus, covering the Jerry Lawler/Stacy Carter 2001 WWE departure and eventual divorce, the WWE Network launch, and the "Clique Curtain Call." We're also starting an in-depth series on TNA getting cancelled by Spike TV and Destination America this week, which promises to be epic. In the meantime, though, here's the unreleased episode from three months ago. Will episode #544 ever be fully re-edited and re-released? We don't know. On this special episode, Brian Tramel and Steve Crawford look back at the life and career of Phil Hickerson, one of the toughest, most believable, and most underrated performers to ever come through Memphis wrestling. From his early run as a rugged Southern brawler teaming with Al Green, to his legendary partnership with Dennis Condrey as part of the Wrecking Crew, Hickerson built a reputation as a guy who could fight, bleed, talk, and make everything he did feel real. Brian and Steve discuss Phil's place in the Memphis territory, his wild arena brawls, his run-ins with names like Jerry Lawler, Tommy Rich, Eddie Gilbert, Harley Race, and the future Sting and Ultimate Warrior, plus his later transformation into P.Y. Chu-Hi. The show also covers what made Hickerson so respected by fans and wrestlers alike: his timing, his toughness, his believable promos, and his ability to make everyone he worked with look better. It's part career retrospective, part Memphis wrestling history lesson, and part tribute to one of the last great old-school Southern wrestling originals. A salute to “Big” Phil Hickerson — a Jackson, Tennessee tough guy who left a lasting mark on Memphis wrestling. The 2026 slate for Hey, an Actor! inevitably starts with a well-known comedic actor of Hollywood pedigree: New Jersey's greatest short man, Danny DeVito. The Brothers Wilson skillfully navigate his Taxi sitcom days by covering his film dedicated to his former co-star, Andy Kaufman, in Man on the Moon, as well as one of his first post-Taxi cinematic supporting roles in Romancing the Stone, and his directorial effort in bringing Roald Dahl's Matilda to the silver screen. Along the way, Pandy introduces a new character, Ian learns a new synonym for "taint," and Jerry Lawler is discussed just enough not to worry the podcast's legal budget. Oh, and there's a song parody that sounds unintentionally Muppet-esque.

The Podcast: The Outdated Wrestling Hour With Bob Smith podcast – now in its fourth year – offers veteran fans (as well as curious younger ones) a chance to reminisce about classic mat action from years gone by. The show is hosted by Bob Smith, the former managing editor of Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazine who also enjoyed a long history with other famous titles. Co-host Joe Puccio (GenerationXWire.com) offers a younger perspective on old wrestling before the duo ushers in guests from throughout the professional mat landscape. The Topic: We say hello again to Memphis wrestling maven “Mayor” John McCall, who for more than three years has been the host of his own podcast, Wrasslin' Talk With Mayor McCall – however, this lifelong fan and follower of all things CWA and USWA has now decided to hang up his microphone. On a big episode 25 of Hands of Z, Keith and Shawn deviate from the normal two match cadence of 1 Larry and 1 Garvin match and make it all about Larry! Enjoy as the boys deep dive and watch the Battle Royal from 1989 complete with interviews in build up where Larry wins the AWA title! Sgt. Slaughter, Tom Zenk, Manny Fernandez, Wahoo McDaniel, Ken Patera, The Future Beverley Brothers and Orient Express and more! Its a packed match with two entrants that never made it to the Battle Royal but had interviews in the lead up. One was a Rock, the other one an American Dream?? Larry is on fire! Jerry Lawler gets verbally destroyed, Bill Apter is in the house and so much more! Fun episode!
This week, Regional Rasslin goes back to the Memphis territory in 1985 as we kick off the month of July. Guest Gene Jackson joins Ray Russell as they discuss the interesting debut of the 7'7" giant BIG JOHN HARRIS. They talk Big John's peculiar "music video" and articulate promo (YUP!). Plus, the current Southern Champion Bota the Witch Doctor is back in the studio wielding fire! BUT, the studio fans are not impressed. Leslie Floyd Creatchman III is still here (perhaps for the final time). FORMER Referee Tom Branch competes, while his feud with Jerry Lawler rages on. Speaking of the King, it's Lawler vs. Phil Hickerson in a fun TV match. The Tojo/Jarrett retirement tour continues on, while Jerry Bryant impresses, a few moments reflecting on the legendary Dennis Condrey.. and, thanks to listener David Taub doing the research, Ray & Gene discuss live Memphis wrestling going up against NBC Sports! If you're enjoying WrestleCopia and interested in helping us continue to grow, please consider Subscribing to our Patreon to help us cover some of our costs! https://www.patreon.com/wrestlecopiaYOU CAN ALSO GIFT SOMEONE A PATREON MEMBERSHIP (OR ASK THEM TO GIFT YOU ONE) AT https://www.patreon.com/WrestleCopia/giftIncludes the $5 “All Access” Tier $9 "VIP Superfan" Tier, and "The ULLLTIMATE Tier", featuring our various VIDEO-CAST Series, Early Show Releases, our insanely detailed show notes (for the Grenade, Monday Warfare, Regional Rasslin, Puro Academy, & Retro Re-View), monthly DIGITAL DOWNLOADS for your viewing and reading pleasure, & more!HELP SUPPORT THE SELF-FUNDED WRESTLECOPIA BRAND, CONSIDER DONATING TO OUR PAYPALWRESTLECOPIA MERCHANDISE - https://www.teepublic.com/user/wrestlecopiaVisit the WrestleCopia Podcast Network https://wrestlecopia.comFollow WrestleCopia on “X” (Formerly Twitter) @RasslinGrenadeFollow & LIKE our FACEBOOK PAGE – https://www.facebook.com/RasslinGrenadeSubscribe to the WrestleCopia Youtube Channel at https://www.youtube.com/RasslinGrenade ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
