"This is not how I saw my life. But it's so much better than anything I could've imagined. I wanna be with you."In honor of everyone getting together to stuff our faces, avoid our families, and try to erase all of the lies fed to us during our elementary school educations surrounding Thanksgiving, we're talking about the coming-out queer holiday romcom, LEZ BOMB. We tell our coming out stories, talk about the weirdness that is introducing your partner to your family, and BJ cries a bunch. Writing and directing your first feature will always come with its own unique challenges. But now add working with an ensemble cast of famous actors and basically creating your own niche in order to comedically tell your meaningful story. This is exactly what Jenna Laurenzo navigated successfully with her hilarious film Lez Bomb now on Amazon Prime.IFG Podcast | How Movies Get MadeIFG is created by Framework Productions. Happy Thanksgiving! This week, Mark and T.J. talk about the quirky Thanksgiving lesbian comedy "Lez Bomb." A rare queer-themed holiday film, it's a surprisingly funny--if at times narratively confusing--exploration of family, sexuality, and relationships. T.J. also quizzes Mark on his knowledge of gay culture and, in the final segment, Mark and T.J. discuss the historic election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_donations&business=3LQGR255VPNJN¤cy_code=USD)

This week on the podcast we've got two guests--the beautiful, hilarious Veronica Garza and our mortal enemy, Sound Issues. We blame Lez Bomb, a family comedy that makes 90 minutes sound like an eternity.
In this Think Queerly Podcast Leadership Discussion, I speak with Jeffry Iovannone and David Butler about having lived through the origins of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, political and social observations, human behaviour, social media, community response, ACT-UP and activism, and how we can contrast this knowledge with what we are currently experiencing in real-time with COVID-19.Historians have long argued that infectious diseases have changed the course of humanity throughout history.“HIV, a pandemic that is still with us and still lacks a vaccine, has killed an estimated 32 million people and infected 75 million, with more added every day” (Bryan Walsh; BBC).While HIV and COVID-19 are both considered pandemics (a disease epidemic that spreads worldwide) they are dramatically different for many critical reasons that we discuss, including:How did AIDS change humanity? While there are aspects of the current pandemic that are beyond our control, in what ways might this situation provide us with the opportunity to reshape humanity for the better?Instead of just critiquing our current system, what kind of a world would we like to live in, and what can we do to get there? What lessons from the HIV/AIDS epidemic are most applicable to this moment in terms of not only surviving the current crisis but working towards a better world? How do we come together to create change when the current pandemic necessitates us to remain physically apart?Guest BiosDavid Butler is an eclectic artist, actor and designer living in Buffalo, NY. After thirty years as a traditional theatre actor and set designer, Butler has now transitioned to work in the motion picture industry. As Production Designer, a number of his films are available on Amazon and Netflix including After the Sun Fell, Cold Book, the lesbian thanksgiving coming-out comedy Lez Bomb, and the recently released teen thriller, Dead Sound.Butler has been an active member of his LGBTQ Community since his early days in Act UP in the late 1980s and he currently shares facilitation of his home town LGBTQ Facebook page. And now for something completely different... I watched Lez Bomb, a lesbian coming out story set on Thanksgiving, for the first time and recorded my reaction. Watch along with me and listen to my running commentary featuring such highlights as "oh my god I hate everyone" and "Is Steve Guttenberg a drug dealer?" It's a rollercoaster, y'all. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/we-are-the-weirdos-mister/support

Happy Monday my people! Director Jenna Laurenzo’s new comedy Lez Bomb hits theaters and VOD this Friday! Jenna and I talked about how she used analytics from her short film to cultivate an audience for her feature. She also asked a great question about how to get critics to check out your film during award season. This is definitely a convo you don’t want to miss! The after show is where I ask my guests two questions that cuts straight to great takeaways for how to improve the PR and marketing for your production and they throw one at me. Enjoy! Happy Friday folks! This week I have a jam packed episode! I talk with Picture Lock contributor Julia Moroles about her love for documentary filmmaking, and her latest documentary. Julia also talked with Gabe Polsky, director of In Search of Greatness about his latest documentary, which is in theaters today! I talk with Chief Instigating Officer, Dan Brawley, of the Cucalorus festival about what we can expect to see next weekend at the festival that is still standing strong in it’s 24th year in Wilmington, NC. Which is awesome because the city was hit hard by Hurricane Florence this year. So mark your calendars for November 7th-11th film lovers! If my talk with Dan isn’t enough to convince you to check it out, my conversation with one of my new best friends, Jenna Laurenzo surely will. Jenna is the director of Lez Bomb, a hilarious new comedy about coming home and coming out. The film will be playing at the Cucalorus film festival, which is quite coincidental because at the time we recorded, I had no idea! You’ll definitely want to hear the Picture Lock After Show conversation I had with Jenna which I’ll drop Monday on the podcast. It’s packed, but it’s another great episode!
