Hace más de 15 años, Armando Hernández, rescató a una perrita que iban a sacrificar por no cumplir con los estándares de la raza. No imaginó que sería el inicio de su labor de rescate de perros y gatos. Con el tiempo fundó el Albergue Canino y Felino Spa Imperial. El protocolo que se aplica "es ingresar a una clínica donde estarán en cuarentena, se desparasitan y esterilizan, posteriormente pasan al albergue para ver qué tan sociables son. Al 90% se les rehabilita”, explica Armando, quien es estilista, adiestrador canino y abogado. Hoy cuentan con 55 perros y 67 gatos y muy poco apoyo para financiar la operación. Dedican los fines de semana a asistir a eventos de adopción. Además algunas autoridades, como Alcaldías o el gobierno del Estado de México, le piden apoyo para recibir animales de raza de criaderos clandestinos, sin brindarles vacunas, ni medicamentos. "Lo cual nos sale peor... porque esos animales la mayoría no sobreviven y el gasto veterinario es muy alto y nos lo dejan a nosotros” El dinero para la operación del albergue sale primordialmente del trabajo de Armando y cuentan con poco apoyo. Se puede apadrinar un perro o un gato mediante donaciones en especie a la cuenta 5579070137421999 en el Banco Santander."Un perro guía es un perro de asistencia que se especializa en la movilidad de una persona con discapacidad visual", dice Monserrat Vargas, "lo que hace es marcar obstáculos o referencias”. Ella empezó a usar a estos perros a los 25 años, y también a entrenarlos. No quería que le pasaran el mando del perro cuando este tuviera año y medio. Hay estudios que comprueban que el vínculo y el desempeño es mejor si se conocen desde que el perro es cachorro. Quizo intentar algo diferente y ser ella quien lo enseñara acorde a sus necesidades y entorno. Monse, es la primera persona en adiestrar a su propio perro guía en México. Es importante tener buen sentido de la orientación y buen uso del bastón blanco para moverse sin perro. Hoy circula libremente por la ciudad con su perro, en transporte público y tiene una vida activa capacitando a perros en el Instituto de Perros de Servicio, IFAMPS. Desarrolló RED Sustentable, un espacio de reflexión. A sus 18 años comenzó a misionar en la diócesis de Añatuya en Santiago del Estero y hoy continúa haciéndolo, ahora junto con su esposa e hijos. Integra el consejo de la Fundación River Plate y es voluntario en diversas organizaciones de la sociedad civil.
