Jamie explains from Scripture (especially Colossians 1:15-20) how Jesus is God and that all things were created by Him. We have been adopted into God's family (Galatians 4:4-7) and the Spirit of God in our hearts causes us to cry "Abba Father". Jesus understand us as explained in Hebrews 4:14-16.

Oliver Lavery is an English mythologist, folklorist, traveling professional storyteller, and host of The Story Crow YouTube channel from Wiltshire County, England. For this Christmas special we focus in on one of the most mysterious Yuletide tales, the anonymous medieval poem of Sir Gawain & The Green Knight. After a reading about a royal deer hunt, Oliver opens on where he lives, amongst countryside & stone circles in south-western England. Giving us a summary of the The Green Knight legend, Oliver inspires conversations on the mythological & psychological: integrating the wild man within; hunting & ferreting; the Celtic roots behind the Arthurian legends; Cernunnos [the ancient European god of wild beasts]; Green Man; the headdress of a German shaman; and the overuse of the Jungian word "archetype." To wrap up this mythically merry chat, Oliver shares a haunting story about his own numinous experience at a burial cairn on the windy moors of Devon. Rapid Evolution in the Modern AgeEvolution is like the ultimate slowburn, unfolding over millennia. And in our modern society, where things move so fast, it's easy to miss this incremental but constant transformation. Not only is evolution happening all around us, in some cases it's even picking up the pace.In our season finale, our resident superhero, Ratwoman, returns with a new sidekick: The Bat Whisperer. Join Dr. Kaylee Byers and Dr. Cecelia Sánchez as they team up to explore the marvels of rapid evolution– from bats in the Solomon Islands, to modern dating. We'll meet cave explorer and mammal detective Dr. Tyrone Lavery along with paleontologist and evolutionary biologist Dr. Nick Longrich to unlock predictions for the future, by looking into the past. With unprecedented access to genomic information, we can now remix evolution like never before. I really enjoyed the process of making this episode. I read most days and discuss what I learnwith the players I train here at my facility in Minnesota. I'll also ask them at some point if they read outside of their school requirements. Most answer like I would when I was their age; "No Way!"But every once in a while I'll get someone that gives a different answer that is uncommon. Meet Henry Lavery. He's a youth hockey player, reads 20-30 most days and we're going to be discussing a book we both read, Orr My Story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! More info below. In Episode #200 of The XS Noize Podcast, host Mark Millar interviews acclaimed Northern Irish singer-songwriter Ciaran Lavery about his stunning new album Light Entertainment. Light Entertainment, Lavery's fifth studio album and first since 2020's acclaimed Plz Stay, bb, is his most multi-layered work yet. It features his trademark wit and invites listeners into a strange, intense world. Shaun Doogan and Ciarán McCann at Re-Act Productions have also adapted the album into a striking short film. The film follows Lavery through surreal, film noir-inspired scenarios, even featuring Daniel O'Donnell as a phantasmagorical version of himself. It mirrors the album's theme of feeling overwhelmed by a constant stream of information, news, and social media. In this episode, Ciaran discusses the inspiration behind the album, working with Daniel O'Donnell, how he nearly became a rapper and much more. The Barbizon Hotel was a place of freedom and upward mobility for many ambitious young women in the 20th century, including women like Sylvia Plath and Grace Kelly. The debut novel from former Dear Prudence advice columnist Daniel Lavery tells the story of people working and living at a similar kind of hotel. Lavery joins us to discuss the book Women's Hotel.
Abby and Patrick welcome writer Daniel Lavery to talk about his superb new book Women's Hotel. Lavery's novel conjures a now-vanished institution (low cost, long term residential communities for working women) in a since-disappeared landscape (midcentury New York City) and populates it with a cast of memorable characters whose entanglements, solidarities, and mixed fortunes dramatize the very contingencies of family, community, and human life itself. Abby and Patrick talk with Daniel about how he came to conceive of the project, his influences and inspiration, his method for producing such rich characterizations, the question of style, and more. It's also a chance for the three to explore the psychoanalytically rich themes and topics the book takes up, from the desire for recognition to anxieties over conflicting social mores to substance abuse to family estrangement to religious preference and much, much more. Born and raised in Czech Republic, Veronica LaVery moved to the US at age 17. She said she was never into makeup and styling but when someone on Myspace wanted to do a photoshoot with her, she ended up falling in love with it! Veronica has been modeling for over a decade and has built up her career quite a bit over time, so much that it seems like she might be "too hot for social media" platforms! Youtube demonitized her channel that used to make a decent amount of income for her, and her instagram that had over 300k was also deplatformed, yet Veronica continues to model and be successful despite the internet's challenges. The story of homebrewing and craft beer is intertwined. Ask many craft brewery owners how they got their start, and you'll probably hear about their homebrewing days—how it sparked their love of beer and eventually led them to turn their hobby into a career. However, homebrewing is only one part of going pro, and there are many more skills needed to open and run a brewery. Ryan Lavery, owner of Widowmaker Brewing, got his start brewing beer in his garage. A series of serendipitous moments, including a Craigslist ad, eventually led him to open his own brewery in Braintree, Massachusetts in 2017, and another location in Allston-Brighton, a neighborhood in Boston in 2023. Both locations reflect Ryan's love for music with his second location being described as a place with “intergalactic, spacey, stoner rock” vibes. In this conversation, Ryan shares how he didn't really know anything about opening a brewery and how those first decisions—like how they set up the brewhouse—still affect him and his team today. You'll hear Ryan discuss the distinction between the opening of his first taproom and the second one, as well as how the brewery discovered its identity and how that knowledge influenced the design of both locations, starting with the second. We also spend a little time talking about the special places he's visited in Atlanta while on business for the brewery, including a previous podcast guest, Todd DiMatteo, and his brewing company, Good Word Brewing.
