Jayson Uribe finished second in last year's MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship, and, for many, that was a surprise. Uribe started the season with a sixth, a fifth and a fourth in the first three races of the season. In race four, Uribe won his first race of the series when his title rival Hayden Gillim crashed out of race two at Brainerd International Raceway. From there Uribe never looked back, earning a second win and never finishing off the podium en route to securing second in the title chase. If anyone caused Gillim to have restless nights, it was Uribe. We caught up with the Californian for this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers and Bice to chat about his season, fighting fires, the new MotoAmerica Parts Unlimited Talent Cup and more.Support the show
Scoring points in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship isn't an easy accomplishment these days. Case in point: Last year only 34 riders scored at least one point in the title chase and 64 of them tried at least once. If you're a privateer racing well behind the likes of Hayden Gillim, you're working towards earning those valuable championship points. Red Lobo Racing's Manny Segura is one of those riders who scored points last year and is trying to do the same this year. We were able to track Segura down for a chat this week of the newest episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the Show.
Geoff May has been around the racing game for a long time. As a racer. This time around, May will come at it from a different direction as he makes his team-owner debut at Barber Motorsports Park, May 17-19, as the man behind the GMR/Jones Honda effort that will field Gabriel Da Silva in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship. We caught up with May this week to get some background on the new team while also chatting about some stuff from the past on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the Show.
Two-time MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Champion Andrew Lee will begin what he is hoping will be the start of a successful campaign to win a third title when the Stock 1000 Championship kicks off at Barber Motorsports Park, May 17-19. In the meantime, the ever-fit Lee has been keeping himself busy and track ready. We chatted with Lee about that and more on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the Show.
Team owner/racer Michael Gilbert finished fourth in last year's MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship, missing out on second in the title chase by just five points, and he also finished fourth in the Superbike Cup. Last week in Texas, Gilbert's team rolled into Circuit of The Americas in style with its 18-wheeler nicely wrapped with team sponsors Cycle World powered by Octane and Chuckwalla Racing prominently on display for all to see. Now a premier MotoAmerica Superbike team, Gilbert will compete in both Stock 100 and MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike in 2022 and he will do so with a big presence in paddock. We talked to Gilbert for this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice to talk about the newest rendition of Michael Gilbert Racing and much more. Jake Lewis won six races en route to winning the 2021 MotoAmerica Stock 1000 Championship (and the MotoAmerica Superbike Cup) on his Altus Motorsports Suzuki and his performance has paid off with a full-time return to the MotoAmerica Medallia Superbike series on the Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki team for 2022. Lewis got the call late in 2020 to ride for Altus in 2021, got himself off the couch and back into training, showed up and finished fourth in the first two races at Road Atlanta, then won his first race of the season in the next round at VIRginia International Raceway. From there he marched to the title with five more victories and a total of nine podiums. He also competed in the Superbike Cup and collected the $25,000 check for winning that as well. The highs and the lows for PJ Jacobsen in 2020 were definitely more on the low end of the scale. After winning the opening round of the MotoAmerica Stock 100 Series at Road America 1, Jacobsen had a frightening crash when he had to jump off his Ducati at speed when it caught fire during morning warmup for round two. The result were serious burns to Jacobsen's lower body. The New Yorker tried to come back at Road Atlanta, but the injuries were too severe for him to continue. So just like that his season was over. We caught up with Jacobsen this week for Off Track With Carruthers And Bice to see how he's doing and what his future plans consist of. This episode is a great chat with Melissa Paris. Melissa is a self-proclaimed street squid who snuck her way into racing and is currently the lead technician for the Altus Motorsports team which races a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 in the MotoAmerica Stock 1000 series with rider Cameron Petersen on-board. We start off talking about the team’s very successful weekend at PittRace, where rider Cam won both Stock 1000 races. We also talk about how Melissa got into motorcycles in college and made the progression from street rider, to track rider, to club racer, and then to mechanic, professional racer, and team owner. And we discuss relationships and motorcycles, including a little bit about her son Hawk and her husband Josh Hayes and how banging handlebars with your spouse on the track can be very therapeutic and great marriage counselling!
