In this podcast episode, we dive deep into motorcycle heated riding gear. Riding in cold weather can be uncomfortable without proper gear. Over the years, I've tested a range of heated gear—from budget to premium—and have real-world experience as a police motor officer and personal rider. In this guide, I'll walk you through heated gear options, share insights, and explain why Gerbing gear stands above the rest. 1. The Problem with Cheap Heated Gear White-Labeled & Generic Gear Many low-cost heated gear products, like Mobile Warming, are white-labeled items from platforms like Alibaba. These products appear across Amazon and eBay, rebranded and sold under different names. The Issue: Cheap materials lead to quick failure, poor battery performance, and safety concerns. Flimsy Batteries & Chargers Cheap heated gear often uses low-quality lithium-ion batteries. Problems include: Fire hazard concerns. Poor charge indication (no light or status). Chargers that break quickly. Batteries don't last and will have to be replaced often. Tip: Avoid relying on inexpensive gear for long-term riding needs. 2. Why Gerbing Sets the Standard Unmatched Quality & Reliability Gerbing heated gear is tested, durable, and built for serious riders. Their batteries, chargers, and construction far outperform budget brands. Gerbing 7V Soft Shell Vest Versatile & Stylish: Wearable on motorcycles, outdoor activities, or day-to-day tasks. Battery Performance: High: ~2 hours Medium: ~3-4 hours Design Note: Should fit snugly to maximize heat transfer. 3. My Favorite Heated Gear: Gerbing Heated Shirt The Gerbing heated shirt is my go-to for daily police motor duty and personal riding. Why I Love It: Thin material fits under any jacket.  Versatile enough for any outdoor tasks.  Battery Life: Up to 5 hours on low. Functionality: Easy controls with visible power indicators. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE 4. Battery-Powered vs. Plug-In Gear Battery-Powered Gear Pros: Portable and versatile for short trips or off-bike use. Cons: Limited runtime; requires carrying extra batteries. Plug-In Gear (Gerbing Heated Jacket Liner) Why Plug-In? Unlimited runtime while riding. Always in my saddlebag, ready for unexpected cold weather. Setup: Plugs into your bike's power system, offering a reliable heat source for long rides. Pro Tip: Use both for maximum versatility! 5. Heated Gloves, Pants, and Socks: Do You Need Them? For riders or bikes without fairings or heated seats, heated gloves, pants, and socks are invaluable. My Setup: Heated jacket liner. Heated grips. Saddlemen Heated Seat. This combination is sufficient for even freezing temperatures. 6. First Gear vs. Gerbing: A Comparison Key Differences Feature Gerbing First Gear Construction Wind-resistant nylon; ripstop shell Standard nylon Redundancy Backup manual controls Limited to lowest heat if remote fails Wireless Control Redundant options available No manual fallback Verdict: Gerbing's durability and redundancy give it the edge for serious riders. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! 7. Wireless Controllers for Convenience Manual in pocket controllers can be awkward on the road. Solution: Gerbing's wireless controller. I mount it with velcro on my bike's dash. Setup: The manual controller offers redundant and  is needed to pair with the wireless remote  8. Wiring Your Bike for Heated Gear Option 1: Using OEM Accessory Plugs Newer Harleys (like my 2024 Street Glide) come with accessory plugs. Extension Needed: Use Gerbing's male-to-female extension to make connections accessible. Option 2: Direct Battery Connection Pigtail Setup: Attach Gerbing's pigtail connector to your battery terminals. Safety Tip: Choose the correct fuse size for your gear combination (see Gerbing's fuse chart/comes with your gear). 9. SAE Connections for Adventure Bikes Use an SAE-to-Gerbing adapter for bikes equipped with battery tender leads. This works seamlessly for adventure bikes like my KLR or any other bike for that matter.  10. Final Thoughts Heated gear transforms cold-weather riding, but quality matters. Gerbing delivers unmatched performance, durability, and comfort. Whether you prefer battery-powered or plug-in options, they have solutions for all riding styles. LAB-381-Don't Use A Lithium Ion Battery Use On A 2024 & Newer Harley Davidson!

Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently purchased a 2024 Harley-Davidson Street Glide, one of the latest models featuring a redesigned fairing and the new Infotainment Control Unit (IFCU) digital dash system. As someone who values reliability and performance, I opted to replace the stock lead-acid battery with a lithium-ion battery before embarking on a 10-day trip. Over the years, I've tested various lithium-ion batteries and prefer them because they are very lightweight, durable, and efficient.  The First Few Days: Everything Seemed Fine For the first three days of my trip, the Street Glide performed flawlessly with the new lithium-ion battery. The bike fired up without hesitation, and I had no reason to suspect any issues. However, on the third day, I began to notice that the bike was starting a bit slower than usual—a small concern that I decided to keep an eye on. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE On the fourth morning, the bike started up just fine at the hotel. After a quick stop at Starbucks, though, it refused to start. The battery was completely dead. Thankfully, I had one of our compact jump starter packs from the Law Abiding Biker Store, which saved the day. Without it, I would have been stuck waiting for a tow service—something every biker should try to avoid. A jump start pack is an essential tool that every rider should carry to prevent costly and time-consuming interruptions. The Ride Continues: Persistent Issues With my Street Glide jump-started, we set out for a long day of riding. Although the bike started after each stop, it did so a bit slower than usual. Additionally, the battery indicator on the digital dash remained on, signaling that something was still wrong. Despite these issues, we pressed on. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Breakdown: A Dangerous Situation Later that day, just outside of Greensboro, NC, on a busy multi-lane freeway, my Street Glide suddenly went completely dead—without warning. I lost all power, including the digital dash system, and had to drift to the inside shoulder. Attempting to jump-start the bike again proved futile, as it wouldn't even power on. Left behind by my riding group, I quickly contacted them to secure a replacement battery. They managed to find a lead-acid battery and brought it back to my location. Fortunately, I was prepared with my Cruz Tools RTH3 emergency roadside tool kit, also available at the Law Abiding Biker Store. We swapped out the lithium-ion battery for the lead-acid one, and my bike started right up. This preparedness saved us valuable time and allowed us to continue our journey without further delay. The Aftermath: Investigating the Issue With the new lead-acid battery installed, the battery trouble indicator disappeared, and I had no further issues for the remainder of the trip. However, the situation left me with many questions. Was the problem caused by the lithium-ion battery? Has something changed in the 2024 models regarding the use of these batteries? And if so, why isn't this information widely known? Determined to find answers, I reached out to my connections within Harley-Davidson. After two weeks of communication, I received the following statement: Harley-Davidson's Statement:  Lithium batteries are not approved by HD fitment for Revolution Max and center-cooled models due to the unique features of the electrical system and software on those vehicles. We continue to evaluate those systems' interactions, the changes needed to possibly enable fitment, and consumer demand. Any potential future changes to enable lithium batteries will be communicated to the field and dealer network via fitment updates or service bulletins. Tired of a sore and achy ass? Then fix it with a high-quality Butt Buffer seat cushion? My Opinion: What Likely Happened Based on my experience with lithium-ion batteries, here's my take on what likely happened. Lithium-ion batteries are “smart” and can go into sleep mode if they are drawn down too far. I believe that's what happened when my Street Glide suddenly went dead on the freeway. The battery likely went into safe mode, cutting off power to the entire bike. While the charging system is fully capable of charging the battery, the new electrical system in the 2024 models—especially with the IFCU digital dash—might have different protections in place. These protections could allow the main battery to draw down further before it begins recharging, which might explain why a lead-acid battery, which isn't “smart” and doesn't go to sleep, worked without issue. Again, this is just my opinion based on what I've observed. Conclusion: Be Prepared and Stay Informed My experience underscores the importance of being prepared and staying informed about your motorcycle's components, especially when dealing with new technology. Whether it's carrying a reliable jump pack or a comprehensive roadside tool kit, being prepared can save you from potentially time consuming and costly situations. As Harley-Davidson continues to evaluate the use of lithium-ion batteries in their newer models, it's crucial for riders to stay updated wich is why I made this video and wrote this article.  New Patrons: Ola Mattisgården of Rydsgård, Sweden Jeffrey Porras of Phoenix, AZ Stephen Gates of Fort Collins, Colorado If you appreciate the content we put out and want to make sure it keeps on coming your way then become a Patron too! Hello everyone and welcome once again to Motos and Friends, brought to you by the Editors at Ultimate Motorcycling magazine.  I'm Arthur Coldwells. This week, Editors Don Williams and Nic de Sena discuss the 2024 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. The new Street Glide has had a total revamp, from the new fairing and lights, to the engine and chassis, the Street Glide is now an even more serious bagger than before. Nic and Don take us through their experiences with the new machine and why they're so pumped on the changes. In the second segment this week, recently appointed Head of MV Agusta North America, Luca Dovesi, chats with me about his vision for MV Agusta North America. Luca talks about the challenges he's facing and how he plans to leverage KTM's sales and distribution expertise to rebuild faith in the MV Agusta brand. We all know that the Italian manufacturer has always designed and produced the most exquisite and innovative motorcycles. But now, with the Pierer Mobility Group's considerable commitment and horsepower behind them, the future just might be looking pretty bright for MV Agusta, and us, the consumers in America. So, from all of us here at Ultimate Motorcycling, we hope you enjoy this episode! We love your feedback! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch and we talk about the recently released 2024 Harley-Davidson Touring Models.  Specifically the 2024 Road Glide, the 2024 Street Glide, and the 2024 CVO Road Glide ST.  I had the opportunity to ride these backs recently in Law Vegas at a Harley-Davidson media event. I learned quite a bit of information to pass along to you, the consumer.  In the episode, I get into motor size.  Variable Valve Timing (VVT) motors versus non-VVT motors, suspension, the new Skyline OS Operating System, performance parts, and more.  Hopefully, the info we provide will help you decide which bike is right for you.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The 2024 Road Glide and Street Glide only come in one model which we are referring to as the Standard model.  For the last several years you could purchase a standard model and a special model.  The standard model was more affordable but lacked many desirable items.  The special model cost more but had many upgraded items.  Now, the "standard" model comes with everything the special models of the past had.  The starting price point (chrome finishings) comes in at a price in between what the standard and special model cost.  One thing to note is black finishings and certain colors cost more.  The new "standard" model is a good starting platform to build from.  You can go the performance bagger or the long haul touring route with them.   The 2024 CVO Road Glide ST is an all-new model.  It is inspired by the King of the Baggers race series.  I've been predicting a bike like this for some time.  My prediction was wilder including mid controls for more lean angle allowing an amature racer to take it out on the track out of the box.  The CVO Road Glide ST has many race-inspired upgrades including carbon fiber parts, an M8 121 motor with upgrades, performance SHOWA suspension, radial Brembo brakes, special track modes, and more.   CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! So, you may want to know if you should buy a standard Road or Street Glide, or should you buy a CVO Road Glide ST?  Here is what I will say; look back on your last two years of riding and evaluate the type of riding you do.  The CVO ST may be the bike for you if want to haul ass and carve up the canyons.  Alternatively, the "standard" models may be best if you want to tour.  Ultimately you'll be happy if you purchase either.  Now, get out there and ride already!  New Free Video Mentioned:  Finding That Elusive Place We Seek! Harley-Davidson just unveiled their latest and greatest in the 2024 model year. This was a big year to say the least. The most popular motorcycles in the touring family, the Road Glide and Street Glide, received a huge make over. The Model offering has been simplified by reduced the offering on these two bikes from six down to two. We have the new body style that was first introduced last year on the CVOs. The engine is a 117 Ci Milwaukee-Eight that received new water cooled heads and a new intake increasing power slightly. New suspension and infotainment are also new, key features being introduced. The star of the show was the CVO Road Glide ST which is a new model that we have never seen before. This CVO capitalized on the Performance Bagger movement and takes a lot of it's DNA from the King of the Baggers race bikes. Matt Laidlaw goes over a lot of the details that weren't included in the show.

Both models feature an evolved fairing profile that appears refreshingly modern yet retains Harley-Davidson design DNA that makes them instantly familiar. Additional key features include: An updated Milwaukee-Eight® 117 V-Twin engine features a new cooling system that further optimizes thermal comfort for the rider and enhanced intake and exhaust flow to boost performance. Selectable Ride Modes – Road, Sport, Rain, and Custom – electronically control the performance characteristics of the motorcycle. Infotainment technology is powered by Skyline™ OS and presented on a 12.3-inch TFT color touch screen that replaces all analog instrumentation and most switches. A new 200-watt audio amplifier powers a pair of fairing-mounted speakers. Improved aerodynamics enhance rider comfort and reduce subjective helmet buffeting at highway speed by an average of 60 percent. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this episode, I'm joined by Lurch, and we review the released 2024 Harley-Davidson Models.  We also give our predictions about what may or may not be released on January 24, 2024.  Harley is doing a virtual launch event on the 24th at 10 AM CST.  You can sign up for the event HERE.  We will put out a video and podcast following the virtual launch on the 24th.   Harley released some of the 2024 models via the website recently.  These are the bikes that are carryovers from 2023.  Our belief is they did this to keep dealers stocked with new bikes.  You see, in 2023 there were a couple of production shutdowns.  One was related to a defective brake line from a third-party provider and the other was due to a parts shortage.   SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Missing models (as of the date of this recording) from the 2024 lineup are the Fat Bob 114, all CVO models, all Street Glide models, all Road Glide models except the Limited, and the Pan America standard model.  So, one can infer there is going to be something new with the touring models and perhaps the Fat Bob 114. Ryan predicts the 107 Milwaukee 8 motor will be no more after this year.  He believes the 114" VVT motor will be in the special models along with the new dash and fairings.  He believes the standards will have the older Boom Box GTS unit and a smaller motor.  Ryan also believes that Harley will come out with a King of the Bagger model that is more track-ready than the ST models.  Lurch and Ryan predict that there will be a mid-sized Pan America.  Lastly, Ryan predicts that the long-awaited Bronx Street Fighter will come out sometime in 2024. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Lurch predicts the standard models of the Street Glide and Road Glide may be cut.  Last year there were many models of the Glides including the standard, specials, limited, STs, and CVOs.  That is a lot of models and in his opinion, the higher-level models are more coveted.  The standard glides not being a part of the pre-launch spurred Lurch's prediction.   Harley removed the surcharge imposed on new motorcycle sales.  The surcharge was instituted in July 2021 to combat production and shipping costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic.  In addition to the surcharge cancellation, a couple of models were slightly reduced in price; those being the Nightster and the Nightster Special.   NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Get In The Know Before Harley Releases 2024 Models! The new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide break the mold and reset the bar for the pinnacle Harley-Davidson riding experience.” SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE According to Harley-Davison, the all-new batwing fairing featured on the 2023 CVO Street Glide model offers an evolved profile exhibiting a faster overall gesture and a more swept windshield. While the iconic “T” shape of the batwing fairing is retained, the silhouette and graphic outline have been modernized with updated surfacing, and the new fairing integrates design with the fuel tank, side covers, and saddlebags. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Get Ohlins Suspension for your Harley Davidson!  We installed the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kiton my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. After riding my Harley with the newly installed Ohlin's front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's front suspension and how to adjust things so you have the proper preload and proper rebound dampening. We also installed the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. I highly recommend these shocks and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store.  In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's rear shocks and how to adjust things so you have the proper sag and proper rebound dampening. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE I was not happy with the overall ride of my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, which came with the standard front suspension Harley has used for many years now on its touring models, which has no adjustments. Unfortunately, it is what it is.  I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kit has! Upon ordering from the Law Abiding Biker Store, you'll get to choose an Ohlin's front suspension spring that will be adequate for your particular weight.  I was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models.  I wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks have!  GET OHLIN'S FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION IN THE LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE! WHY I CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Ohlin's rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store. However, I ride and corner my Harley hard and am constantly dragging floorboards and supports. By installing the 13" Ohlin's rear shocks, I raised my Street Glide Special 1" which gives me more lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I was absolutely blown away at how much smother my Harley rode and cornered after installing Ohlin's suspension! I did not realize what a difference good shocks would make! Wow, it was more than I even expected and I highly recommend upgrading your Harley shocks to Ohlin's! It even got rid of most of the bagger wobble while cornering at faster speeds.  My Harley just rode like a completely different bike! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently test rode and reviewed the new Harley-Davidson 2022 Street Glide ST. Harley shipped me the bike and let me have it for 30 days so I was able to really evaluate it. This bike was a dream to ride and overall performed very well. This bike comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci air/oil cooled V-Twin engine with a heavy breather, making around 106 horsepower and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. That was apparent when I got into the power band at around 3500 rpm. The bike has plenty of get up and go and you can easily pass and get around slower traffic.  This bike was inspired by the King of the Baggers series and you should really check it out if you haven't. This ST sits an inch higher than a Harley Street Glide Special model, which makes it the same height as models such as the Ultra Limited. This provides for more lean angle on the ST model and I found that to be the case during my testing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE Harley was able to shave 13 lbs off the Street Glide ST in comparison to a Street Glide Special model, making the ST weigh in at around 814 lbs in operating condition. Some of the weight savings are because the Harley Street Glide ST only comes with a solo seat and has no passenger pegs but you can add both after purchase. The saddlebags are also squared off and don't contour the mufflers like on the special models.  Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #295: The Harley Street & Road Glide ST-Guests Paul James, Bjorn Shuster, and Eric Buckhouse of Harley-Davidson The Street Glide ST has a 19-inch front tire and 18-inch rear tire, 49 mm dual bending valve front forks, premium standard height (13 inch) hand-adjustable rear suspension, dual front and single disc rear brakes, 6 speed transmission, Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, and 6 gallon fuel tank. The ST gets 41 mpg in premium operating conditions. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley Street Glide ST is a great foundation if you are going to build it out as more of a hot rod. It was designed for weight, power, and performance and for it to be faster, more nimble, and have more lean angle. And, for the first time you get that CVO power train in a non-CVO bike The ST is really a blank canvas for performance parts and you could easily make the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci engine a 131 ci engine with a stage four kit. There are plenty of OEM Harley performance parts for the Street Glide ST to include Ohlins suspension.  And as always, you'll get an honest review on this website and on our YouTube Channel. Yes, Harley loaned me the bike but in no way was I paid for this review and Harley has never told me what or what I cannot say or I simply would not do these reviews.  NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: A Real World Harley Street Glide ST Ride and Review Pros: I really liked the stock stereo system with the Boom Box GTS Infotainment System with two-way speakers and it was pretty loud and clear, even when traveling at freeway speeds with a full-face helmet. During the time we had the ST we did a Boss Audio Stereo/Amp Kit install on another bike and tested it against the stock Harley system. Of course, the Boss Audio system was much louder.  I like that the Harley Street Glide ST sits an inch higher for that extra lean angle and I really liked the look of the differing front fender.  I am 5'-08" tall and the bike fit me fine and I was flat footed when stopped with plenty of bend in my knees. The stock seat was pretty comfortable and has a nice curve up in the back, keeping you in the saddle when rolling the throttle and giving some lower back support. But, if I was long distance touring I'd replace the seat.  The stock suspension performed very well, even when on a gravel road with potholes.   Cons:  The Boom Box Infotainment System does not come with a WHIM (Wireless Headset Interface Module) out of the factory. The WHIM allows you to have Bluetooth headset connectivity with the Boom Box while using a Harley branded Sena wireless headset. You need this to activate both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You can also use a Harley branded 7 pin wired headset instead. If you want any wireless headset functionality though, you'll have to add a WHIM during or after your purchase. I think that all Harley's with the Boom Box should come stock with the WHIM like the CVO models do.  The Harley Street Glide ST comes with a LED headlight and taillight but the front and rear signals are still halogens.  Lurch is 6'-4" tall and also test rode this bike. He reported that his shin was up against the heavy breather and that he'd have to change that out immediately with a lower profile air intake. He'd also move the floorboards forward, install an extended brake pedal, and install taller handlebars.  Final Thoughts: Really, the question is whether you spend the extra $2,500 on the Harley Street Glide ST or save it by buying a Street Glide Special.  I'd say that if you are really looking to have a hot rod of a bike, add many performance parts, and really push it in the corners then the ST should be your choice.  If you're looking to do more relaxed riding, tour long distances, and maybe have a passenger, the Street Glide Special is all set up for that upon purchase with a passenger seat and pegs and is $2,500 less. But, it does have the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci engine with a few less horsepower and overall torque. It's still a great engine and has plenty of power for most.   With that said, make no mistake about it, the Harley Street Glide ST would be awesome too for long distance touring if you set it up with a passenger seat and pegs. Overall, I can say that you will not be disappointed if you buy the Harley Street Glide ST and it was a dream to ride. Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! We do comparisons between models, so you can decide what bike may be best for you. The Harley model categories are sport, cruiser, adventure touring, Grand American Touring, and Trike. Additionally, on the Harley website, you can view and purchase pre-owned, certified pre-owned motorcycles, and you can also sell/trade your Harley.    Of course, some of the big news is the new Street Glide and Road Glide ST models.  These bikes are coming with the Milwaukee-Eight 117" power train with a heavy breather and specially tuned to the exhaust system.  These ST models are designed for weight, power, and performance. They got rid of the two-up seat, made it faster, more nimble, gave it a better lean angle, and raised the height.  And of course, there is an entire collection of add-on parts for the ST models called the "Performance Bagger Trim Kit".   The other big announcement was the release of the Low Rider ST, but they also kept the regular Low Rider S in the line-up.  The Low Rider S and ST have been bumped up to the Milwaukee-Eight 117 powertrain now, which puts out 125 ft-lbs. of torque. And they also changed the suspension and raised these bikes a little to give them more of a lean angle.  The Low Rider S has a small fairing while the ST has a larger frame-mounted fairing and it's loosely modeled off the iconic 80's FXRT. The ST has removable hard saddlebags and is a lightweight powerful touring bagger in my opinion. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! And I'm super glad this is becoming the norm for the company as they used to only do new model release events for dealership personnel.  And that never made any sense to me.   In the 2022 model release video CEO Jochen Zeitz says, "In these unprecedented times, we were inspired by you, our passionate community. It is your passion that fuels Harley-Davidson and pushes us to continue leading our industry through innovation and evolution but staying true to who we are and what we stand for." Welcome once again to Motos and Friends, a Podcast by the editorial team at Ultimate Motorcycling, and brought to you by the all-new Suzuki Hayabusa. Your ultimate ride awaits—check out the exciting new Hayabusa at Suzukicycles.com, or of course go see it in person at your local Suzuki dealer.   This week, our featured moto is from The Motor Company—Harley-Davidson. Nice de Sena gives us his thoughts on the new, slightly sportier ST models of the Street and Road Glide touring machines. These are directly influenced by west coast custom culture, and offer a really cool departure from the typical touring bikes. In the second segment, I chat with Nick Smith of Classic Avenue, a California-based auctioneer of some really nice motorcycles and cars. Nick originally came from over the pond and worked for some years with Bonham's auctions, so his standards are extremely high. Looking over the website there are some truly drool-worthy bikes up for auction. Nick gives us his thoughts on the market in general, and why he believes his way of doing things makes all the difference.   We hope you enjoy this episode!      https://classicavenue.com/ 2022 Harley-Davidson Street Glide ST Review [11 Fast Facts]

LAB-275-Soundz Bagger Audio Amplifier/Speaker Install on a Harley-Real World Biker Review!

Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com We spent a day filming and installing front speakers and amplifier on a 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and a 2015 Road Glide Special. The components we used are from a company called Soundz Bagger Audio. We had never heard of this company until several years ago when they came out with a device that would allow you to retro-fit your pre-2019 Harley touring model's Boom Box Infotainment System to the new Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, which comes on 2019 and newer touring models. That device from Soundz Bagger Audio is no longer needed, as Harley-Davidson has since made that retro-fit possible at a cheaper cost. (Make sure to listen in to this podcast episode to get even more details than mentioned in this article) We will be releasing a complete Soundz Bagger Audio front speakers and amplifier install video. So, keep checking back on our Premium Tutorial Videos Page Here. We show both a Street Glide and Road Glide install in our video! Note: We have no affiliation with Soundz Bagger Audio. We simply bought their products for real-world testing & review.  Components and Ordering: When you visit the Soundz Bagger Audio website, there are many options for you to choose from depending on your audio needs for your Harley-Davidson. Once you select the speakers, amplifier, and other components you want, you submit a form and they call you the next business day. You can't actually purchase online using your card and you place your final order over the phone.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE For our install, we selected the Soundz Iron GT  front fairing speakers and the SM4.100 4 channel 861 watt front amplifier. We did not do any rear speaker lid or front lower speakers for this install, but you can certainly add them on if you like. The Soundz Baggers Audio systems come with a pre-wired harness, all wires, and hardware for ease of installation. Interestingly, after we completed our basic order for submission, it was never mentioned nor recommended that we'd need a Techno Research Single License Scan Tool (SC-Alaris) to flash our Harley Boom Box system to their parameters after install. The next day we received a call to verify our online submission. It was at that time we were told we'd need the additional $150 scan tool to flash the Boom Box after install. Additionally, the online price we were given was a bit different than the final price.  The final cost was $1100 for the speakers and amplifier, $150 for the scan tool, and $30 for shipping. Of course, all wiring, harnesses, and hardware are part of this package. So, the total price we paid was $1,280 US. The company was professional to deal with. This price is in line with other quality audio component installs we've done here at Law Abiding Biker™ Media, such as J&M, Rockford Fosgate, Harley Boom Audio, and Cycle Sounds.  Digital Signal Processor (DSP) It's also worth noting, that with the Soundz Baggers Audio systems, you can add on an additional Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which will allow you to really spend time and dial in exactly how your system sounds based on your personal taste. We did not get this component and it's not required. Receiving the Components:  We received the components timely. We were immediately impressed with the quality of what we saw. The speakers had large heavy magnets, dwarfing the stock Harley speaker magnets. The amplifier looked and felt of quality and had additional plates added to it, helping weather seal and protect it. The wire harnesses were neatly organized, heavy-duty, and had all the plugs you'd expect to see in a 2014 and newer Harley. All items were packaged very nicely. The scan tool came in a nice case and had the proper interface cables.  Install Process & Lack of Instructions: We began filming and installing the Soundz Bagger Audio system on our Harley. Be aware, there are no install instructions that come with the components. There is a document included that tells you to go to their support tab on their website. Once there, we found many .pdf documents in an unorganized fashion. Some help a bit and others helped in no way at all. You are really on your own with no real support once you get the components delivered. However, with our very detailed install tutorial video, you'll easily get through it. We are excited, as we know our video will help so many bikers worldwide not be frustrated with the lack of instructions.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! Luckily, with our experience with installing many Harley audio systems over the years, we were able to get through it. We believe that Soundz Baggers Audio mostly sells their systems at rally's and do the installs themselves, which is why they have not really produced detailed and thorough instructions for those that buy online.  We learned that the Soundz Iron GT speaker magnets fit fine inside the stock Street Glide speaker pods. However, with the Road Glide, you must cut a small in the side of the stock speaker pod so it can fit. This is not big deal and we'll show you how to do it in our video. The kit comes with a template, so you can cut the hole in the proper place.  We did find that the harness and the way everything hooked up was unique and a bit different compared to some other systems we've installed. All the wires and harnesses can be very confusing, but we show you in detail in our tutorial video on exactly where to plug things in.  The amplifier installs a bit differently between the Street Glide and Road Glide models, but we show you both in our tutorial video.  Amplifier Settings:  The instructions online do show you where to set certain switches and dials on the amp, but we found one setting was wrong for our setup and we reveal that in our video.  Flashing the Harley Boom Box Infotainment System: Once the Soundz Bagger Audio system was installed, it was time to flash the Harley Boom Box using the Techno Research  Single License Scan Tool (SC-Alaris) that we purchased through Soundz. Again, there are no instructions at all either on the Soundz website or the Techno Research website that will assist you with how to do this.  Inside the case of the scan tool is a sticker. It gives a URL to go to on the Techno Research website where you can download the installer application on your PC. Be aware, this is a PC only installer application and they don't support Mac, which is very archaic for the year 2020.  After you install the Techno Research software on your PC, there are some very basic listed instructions to follow but they lack in detail. We were able to get through the flash of the Harley Boom Box Infotainment System and we reveal exactly how to do this in our tutorial install video. Within the scan tool is a pre-determined "canned" type flash that will set the Boom Box system to the desired settings for the Soundz system. There are procedures, but essentially, you hook your PC laptop to the scan tool and the scan tool to the diagnostic port on your Harley and run the software.   Note: This Techno Research scan tool is licensed for a single-use. Once you connect it to your Harley and run the software it is married to that vehicle identification number (VIN) forever. It will not work on another Harley.  Overall Sound: The Soundz Bagger Audio System we installed sounds very clean and is plenty loud. With the flash and suggested amplifier settings, you can turn the Boom Box volume all the way up with little to no distortion. It can be heard just fine when riding at freeway speeds while not having to turn it all the way up.  As expected on a system like this, there are mostly mids and highs and not much base. Base gets lost anyways at freeway speeds, so focusing on the mids and highs is what many of these aftermarket Harley stereo system companies do. At full volume, our decibel meter was reading steadily between 100 dB and 110 dB depending on the song playing. This is in line with the Harley Boom Audio, Rockford Fosgate, and J&M systems we've previously installed.  Remember, you could certainly dial the sound in even more if you purchase and utilize the digital sound processor (DSP).  New Free Video Mentioned:  Auto Tracking Motorcycles With Drones-DJI Mavic vs. Skydio Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com In this podcast episode, I explain what you need to know about the new 2021 Harley-Davidson model line-up. These were all revealed at Harley's first-ever global virtual launch event held online on January 19, 2021. I put a video out on our YouTube Channel shortly after the event. SEE VIDEO-The Real 2021 Harley Model Event-The Facts & Issues You Need to Know!! There are some issues I discovered, such as the new 2021 Harley touring models are coming with a cable clutch instead of a hydraulic clutch that has been on touring models since 2014. There were some recalls on the hydraulic clutch system over the years but it seemed to have been resolved. We really have no idea why Harley did this because these are supposed to be “premium motorcycles” and cable clutches are yesterday's technology.  I think this is going to irritate many customers since other motorcycle companies are using hydraulic clutches.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE And it seems at this time that you can no longer put current model aftermarket electronic fuel injection (EFI) tuners on your Harley.  They seemed to have changed the data port, so the current tuners won't plug into the engine control module (ECM). I have no doubt though, that aftermarket EFI tuner companies are already working on a solution for this, so it will just be a matter of time. Until then, you can only use a Harley Screamin' Eagle (SE) EFI tuner but they are terrible and don't do much as far as tuning.  Harley can use and sell the SE tuner because it is restricted and therefore EPA compliant.  This is also likely the reason Harley had to make this overall data port change, to try and block aftermarket tuners that are not restricted.  The new Harley CVO line-up will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, Limited, and Tri-Glide, which all have several paint options. They will be coming with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci. V-Twin engine. Harley partnered with Rockford Fosgate and the Street Glide CVO and Road Glide CVO will not come with the Harley Audio by Rockford Fosgate Stage 2 Audio system. The Limited and Tri-Glide will come with the standard Boom Audio Stage 1.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! The Harley “special” series models will be the Street Glide, Road Glide, and Road King. Harley may have been listening to customers because you now have a black or chrome option on the Street Glide Special and Road Glide Special but not on the Road King Special. Many traditional chrome lovers were not happy that the special models only came in a blacked-out option over the past years. These special models will have the Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci. V-Twin engine.  Also revealed were the Street Bob 114 and the iconic Fat Boy for 2021 and they both look great.  Overall, the bikes and paint options look great on these 2021 Harley models and I'm excited to see them in person at some point.  It's also worth noting that on February 22, 2021, Harley released their first adventure touring motorcycle, the Pan America. There are no instructions for fixing the internals of the ignition in the Harley service manuals because if something goes wrong they want you to replace the entire ignition at a cost of over $100 plus labor. You can't even buy the internal parts to the Harley ignition. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! In my tutorial video, I show you how to remove the ignition switch from your Harley-Davidson touring model. I then show you how to re-install it. At times, the ignition can come out of alignment when removing the switch and the shaft won’t go back in or is stuck inside.  SEE HARLEY IGNITION REPAIR VIDEO HERE  Further, I show you how to take the entire ignition apart and fix the alignment problem. There’s no need to take your Harley to a mechanic for this and you can do it yourself. There is also a Harley ignition specialty tool that can help fix the issues and I'll show you how to use it. LAB-216-Harley Releases the 2019 Electra Glide Standard? Gem or Junk?

Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast

Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Harley released their latest touring bike, the Electra Glide Standard, and kept it pretty low key. Harley is calling it the "dressed down dresser". It comes in at a cheaper option than the Street Glide, Road Glide or either of those "special" models. In this podcast episode, we break things down for you and what this new Harley is all about and who it may be for, so listen in. The 2019 Harley Electra Glide is basically a stripped down Street Glide and so that's what I am going to compare it to. The Harley Electra Glide starts at $18,999 and the basic Harley Street Glide starts at $21,289. The Street Glide special jumps up to a starting price tag of $27,089.  SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORE The 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard is an awesome and capable touring bike. I say that because I ride a 2018 Police Electra Glide every day for work. It is a highly capable bike and I think it's great that Harley made a regular public model here in 2019.  Understand that the Harley Electra Glide lacks a stereo/infotainment system of any kind and there is just an empty open storage box in that location. It doesn't come standard with ABS brakes but hey can be added for $795. I strongly suggest you add ABS brakes if nothing else as they save lives. It also lacks a two-up passenger seat and passenger pegs but anything can be added based on your needs.  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE! I'll also mention, the Electra Glide has smaller wheels and the tires are thicker than the Street Glide. The windshield is tall and plain and it has the regular square rear brake/signal setup. You can only get this bike in black. All these things separate its look from the Street Glide a bit.  The 2019 Harley Electra Glide comes with the very capable Milwaukee-Eight 107 motor. Yes, it comes standard with cruise control, which is a must for any touring bike.  Harley has recently been making moves to appeal to a broader demographic of riders. I believe the 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard is an attempt to grab riders who may now be able to get into motorcycle touring at a lower price point.  The 2019 Electra Glide Standard is a cheaper price and stripped down but a very capable Harley touring model. It will be interesting to see how well this bike sells.  Remember, that for close to $2,000 more than the 2019 Harley Electra Glide Standard you can get a Street Glide Standard, which comes standard with ABS brakes, a basic version of the Boom Box radio (4.3 non-touch screen), two up passenger seat, passenger pegs, and paint options. But, everyone's budget is different, so the Electra Glide may be the best option for many. You can always build this bike up how you want it.   Listen in to this podcast episode as we break it down even further than this short article. These are things you'll want to know if you're on the fence of whether to purchase a Harley touring or Indian touring model.  Indian Tutorial Videos Mentioned: How to Perform Routine Maintenance & Oil Change on a 2012 & Newer Indian Motorcycles with Thunder Stroke 111 Motor Install Aftermarket Headers & Mufflers on Indian Touring Model Install Power Commander V Electronic Fuel Injection Tuner on Indian Touring Model Other Great Indian Tutorial and Product Review Videos Harley & Indian Tutorial Videos  CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE!   Harley vs Indian: Below are some of the high points we discussed  INDIAN CHIEFTAIN CLASSIC BASE PRICE: $26,749 HARLEY STREET GLIDE SPECIAL BASE PRICE: $27,089 DIFFERENCE OF $340 INDIAN HAS THE THUNDERSTOKE 111 CI MOTOR 1811cc  INDIAN HASN'T UPGRADED THAT 111 MOTOR FOR MANY YEARS NOW UNVEILED BACK IN 2013 NOTHING SINCE THEN HARLEY HAS THE MILWAUKEE-EIGHT 107 AND 114 CI MOTORS 2019 HD STREET GLIDE AND ROAD GLIDE SPECIALS COMING WITH 114 CI MOTOR STOCK 1868 cc  Harley pros: For a tall rider, the Harley Road Glide special is very comfortable.  The Street Glide is tighter for tall guys, but both excellent riding positions. Lots of accessory options with Harley. Way more than Indian! More saddlebag space in Harley Milwaukee-eight 107" ci motor has great power. Harley 107 ci motor has a touch more acceleration than the Indian Thunderstroke 111 with air, exhaust, and EFI tuner upgrades on both. So, the Milwaukee-eight 114" motor will definitely have more power.  Accessories from manufacturer cost a bit less for Harley compared to Indian.  More dealers nationwide f0r Harley-Davidson Harley has a long history with the brand and bikes Harley touring models have a larger fuel tank for riding cross-country Many aftermarket HD accessories work and fit well. Beware of some aftermarket parts for Indian. Harley Cons: With the Harley Boom!™ Box Infotainment System you have to add an expensive Wireless Headset Interface Module (WHIM) in order to have Bluetooth headset paring. And you have to buy a Harley stamped Sena Bluetooth headset in order to get full functionality and stereo sound.  The Indian Ride Command® system is ready to pair with any major brand Bluetooth headset and you get full functionality. You don't have to add anything on.  Some Harley Dealerships are treating their customers very poorly by stating they'll void warranties if a customer adds an aftermarket air intake or mufflers. This is ridiculous & Harley-Davidson dealerships doing this should be ashamed. They are trying to force customers to buy only Harley stamped products and pay mechanics to install simple things.  Service at Harley dealerships-You want to trust they know everything but the fact is that many dealers are not up to speed and properly trained on the emerging technology such as the Boom!™ Box Infotainment System.  Indian pros: Quality bike. Nice touches. Offering traditional styling and new limited editions.  Technology-Ride Command infotainment system works great! Bluetooth built in. Just pair a Bluetooth headset. GPS updates are free for the first 3 years! Indian uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps.  Harley uses Navi Extras for the GPS maps but you must pay $150 to $200 to upgrade your GPS maps in the Boom Box Infotainment System Charger in the saddlebag for electronics comes stock on the Indian Paint is fantastic-Love the color matched inner fairing & front fairing Thunder stoke 111 ci motor has lots of torque. Milwaukee-eight 107 is better in higher gears. Both bikes with similar aftermarket upgrades Smooth/quieter transmission shifts than on the Harley. Not clunky.  Easier oil changes on Indian. One hole.  Electronic saddlebag lock & unlock electronically. A nice feature that's not available on Harley.  Indian Cons: Indian is owned by Polaris, who make a ton of other things. Are they really focusing on the Indian or on their many other products?  Harley is primarily focused on producing motorcycles Small saddlebag compared to Harley. The design is an illusion and looks very big from the outside, but inside it's significantly less space Indian has a smaller gas tank. Harley has a 6-gallon gas tank. Indian has only a 5.5-gallon and you should you pack an extra gallon of fuel if riding cross-country with Harley touring riders? Fairing feels more in the face compared to Harley Road Glide. Similar to a Harley Street Glide feel. Taller riders on the Indian will need to adjust at first but you can get used to it. Much more limited options on aftermarket products for Indian Expensive parts compared to Harley A much smaller network of Indian dealerships.  Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! LAB-102-Harley Compensator Noise From Primary-New Chain Tensioner AND Torque Cones-Do they work? Plus more!

Law Abiding Biker | Street Biker Motorcycle Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 15, 2016 70:47

Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com Podcast-In this episode we start out with a post from a Patron member of Law Abiding Biker private Facebook Group. That private Facebook Group is growing quickly and it is all about bikers helping bikers. The only way to get in is to become a Patron Member of the show. NEW FREE VIDEO-Touch up paint chip or scratch on Harley Davidson Patron member Carl Lingelbach posted a question about motorcycle torque cones for exhaust headers and their effectiveness. He put true dual exhaust on his Harley and now doesn't have enough back pressure and his bike is not performing optimally.  Luckily, I had mechanical advisor Oscar on the microphone and he answered this very question. At the end of the day, he's not a big fan and doesn't think that torque cones are all that effective. There are much better options for performance out there like getting other exhaust aside from true dual pipes. You'll just have to listen to get all the details.   Next we cover an email from Nora Dalton and she asks: I have a 2014 FLHTK with a compensator noise.  I'm talking with HOG members with the same compensator noise can you tell us what is going on with the Harley Davidson compensator problem?  Our Original Response: Listen and you might also hear the chain whirring around in the primary. Pull the primary cover off & replace the OEM Primary Chain Auto Adjuster with a new Auto Tensioner. A few have experienced that the auto tensioner was bad or needed to be quickly adjusted.  What your hearing could be a primary chain with slack in it. So as the bike idles you hear the chain whirring or rubbing against the inside of primary. Then the compensator eventually gets a slack slap (knock). Of course we discuss this in more length, so listen in. Next we cover a voicemail we received from Martin Royal: Martin is wondering if he can use the Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 (FP3) motorcycle fuel injection tuner (EFI) with his stock Harley head pipes if he removes the catalytic converters (cats). He related information from Vance & Hines that the stock O2 sensors are too close on the stock Harley head pipes and he will get cross-talk of some sort & that the auto tune function could then not be used.   Note: Make certain you check your local, State, & Federal laws before removing catalytic converters from motorcycle exhaust pipes. Oscar and I give our personal opinion and our real world experience on this matter. Quite a few of us are using the Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 on our current Harleys in just the manner Martin describes in his voicemail and have absolutely no problem with the functionality of the FP3 and our bikes are running great! And yes, we run the auto tune function on the FP3 and it works great! Certainly you could buy Vance and Hines head pipes or another manufacturer if you choose and they don't have catalytic converters and the O2 sensors are in a bit different location. Next we cover and email from Peter Ried Fort Hood, TX: (stationed there) I have been a member of your youtube channel and facebook page for Law Abiding Biker. After watching your videos and doing my own research I purchased my First Harley today. I haven't ridden a bike in years and love my 2014 Street Glide. Just wanted you to know that your information and videos is what put me back on a bike. I am stationed at Fort Hood. I at cant wait for more information on your forums. Keep up the great work Next we cover and email from Rory Seldon of Walnut, CA: Just wanted to drop a note and say that I tried to install the Hogtunes without your video and wasted several hours.  Once I purchased the video, installation was a breeze.  Great job and well worth the money!!!!   Next we cover and email from Jon Philbrick: Thanks for the bundles of information you have passed on throughout the year. You are appreciated and looked to as a source of information. I know it takes more time than I think I could expend to put together your programs for us bikers (and other interested parties), but there are those among us that acknowledge your extra effort, and all useful. So as this year comes to an end and another one is coming face to face with us, I wish you and yours a most Merry Christmas and a great new year. May you be in health and continue on with your enthusiasm...and great informative emails/videos. Here you have it Motorcycle Boys and Girls.... Episode 15 is here to tickle your ears.We did have fun tonight and we did have a guest. Kelly "Woody" Woodring was in the V-Twin diner corner booth with us and told us about is brandy new Street Glide and his favorite rides.  Tim also told us about the dead bike mystery that he was befuddled with and of course the squeak on my Heritage continues and we discussed that as well. This episode we also talked about the required tools of the trade if you are going to work on your Harley. But if you go to www.cruztools.com you can find a tool kit for your bike regardless of what you ride!!The Bike Spec Shootout was a good one today and despite all the comments, the bikes are really freaking cool.  One of them you really have to check out is the super cool Janus Halycon 250.  It's a classic looking custom bike and for you folks who really dig the vintage look of the old Indians and Harley's, this is the bike for you. There was some fun being had with the name and the look of the bike but in reality, it's a great machine and would probably be blast to ride and even more so to own.  And they're affordable!!  Check them out at  www.janusmotorcycles.com Now if your tastes are more geared towards the space age super duper rocket ships and you have deep pockets, you'll want to check out Confederate Motorcycles X132 Hellcat Speedster. This is one bad-ass looking bike, but, leave the better half at home because this is a solo rider bike. It's got loads of power and some really cool design. For our guest we threw in the Harley Davidson Street Glide in the shootout.  This classic and most popular of Harley's bikes is loaded with a lot of technology and great deal of classic design. Comfort is the king here and if that's what you are looking for... then this is the ride for you. Check it out at Harley Davidson and pick a color! So check out these cool bikes and let them know what you think.  Good bike companies and good bikes need to hear your voice. Thanks for listening and we'll be back in two weeks with out season finale and will return with Season 2 just after labor day.  Now get out there and ride that bike dammit!!TedThe Motorcycle Men  Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?token=zPl7v5FjoO6fCov5rwbFo35sxmoOIUqUhcR1q1UVtP34xAVolJzW0aJ6GNSdljsPAT4MC0&fromUL=true&country.x=US&locale.x=en_US)

Official Website: http://www.lawabidingbiker.com PODCAST & VIDEO-In this video Lurch and I ride to the Rattlesnake Mountain Harley-Davidson dealership at 3305 W 19th Ave, Kennewick, WA 99338. Lurch has a plan to trade in his 2008 Harley Street Glide for a 2015 Harley Road Glide Special. Although I have always personally liked the look of the batwing style fairing on the Street Glide models, Harley has re-designed the shark nose fairing on the 2015 Road Glide models and I like the new look much better. Lurch and his 2015 Road Glide Lurch is 6 foot 6 inches tall, so because of the fixed fairing (does not turn with the handlebars) we will be able to install 13" ape handlebars and push them forward farther. This will give Lurch a more stretched out and comfortable riding position. The bars can not be pushed as far forward on the Street Glide, because of the different fairing that turns with the bars. •Check out our #1 rated Harley Handlebar Install Videos-Fairing and non-fairing videos available! Further Information: VIDEO & BLOG-In this video I had some time with a 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide in what Harley is calling "mysterious red sunglo" & it is beautiful! Harley took 2014 off on producing the Road Glide, so I was excited to check this bike out! I shot some awesome video and photographed the bike. There is also the Road Glide Special for 2015, which is essentially the same bike, but comes with some extra goodies. The special comes standard with the upgraded larger 6.5 inch touch screen version of the new "Boom!™ Box" infotainment/GPS system, a security system, and Premium low hand-adjustable rear suspension, which I like much better from experience in riding with both. Here is a free video & information I released on how to properly adjust the low hand adjustable rear suspension. The special also comes with a finished off shiny black painted inner dash instead of the matte black finish on the standard model. Note that the larger 6.5-inch touch-screen Boom!™ Box/GPS system is an option on the standard model. Harley-Davidson touring models first came out with the Boom!™ Box system in 2014 as part of Project Rushmore. Now, although the Boom!™ Box Infotainment System is pretty awesome, it does come with a fairly steep learning curve that has frustrated many Harley owners until now. In fact, most owners of the Boom!™ Box system have no idea about the hidden menus, bugs, issues, necessary software updates, mapping integration, nor the system's full overall capabilities. With my #1 viewed Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Infotainment System instructional videos I straighten that learning curve out for motorcyclists/bikers and relieve the stress. These videos have received rave reviews from the motorcycle/biker community and for that I thank you! Check out the #1 Viewed Harley-Davidson Boom!™ Box Instructional Videos Here! SEE PHOTO GALLERY The feature that most distinguishes the Road Glide from the other touring models is its fixed frame-mount “shark-nose” fairing and dual front headlights. The handlebars move inside the fairing, which stays put. On other touring models, such as the Street Glide, the handlebars move with the fairing and it is often called the "batwing" fairing. First seen on the 2014 touring models, the Road Glide now sports the upper fairing vent with a manual switch to shut it off in inclement weather. This vent is to minimize head buffeting by putting a curtain of air (wall) in front of you, forcing the oncoming air up and over your helmet while riding. My 2014 Street Glide special has this fairing vent and I have ridden a ton. My estimation is that it reduces head buffeting by 20-30 percent, so it is well worth it. In addition to the main upper vent are two vents to each side of the headlights, which are “Dual Reflector Daymaker LED” headlights. Harley says these headlights have significantly more spread and greater punch than standard headlights. Harley-Davidson is calling this new three-way air venting system the “triple splitstream vent”. Because the fixed fairing sits way further forward from the rider than on other models, the two additional lower vents are designed to lift the airflow per Harley-Davidson. The dramatic reduction in head buffeting has not only improved rider comfort, but also the listening quality of the Boom!™ Box sound system. A new handlebar bend reduces rider reach by 5.5 inches, which improves long-range comfort. Revised hand controls (just like 2014 models) have improved ergonomics, and a pair of thumb joysticks helps control the Boom!™ Box Infotainment and navigation. The standard comes with air-adjustable twin rear shocks. Here is a free video & information I released on how to adjust these air type shocks. With the Rushmore Project Harley put the new hard injection-molded saddlebags, which are the same convenient easy-open units found on Harley’s other touring models. The 2015 Road Glide standard comes with optional Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS, which I highly recommend for all riders. Of course they are anti-lock brakes, but much more. The integrated system senses too much front or rear brake applied by a rider and evens it out for you automatically, which is critical for emergency braking situations. I have tested this new braking system out intensely in all kinds of weather and road conditions and let me tell you that this bike stops fast and it is very controlled! With all the close calls us motorcyclists/bikers have to deal with, these brakes are well worth it. The iterated brakes don't react in until a bit higher speeds. So, for those of us that perform low-speed skills course drills, we won't have to worry about using that back brake and having it activate suddenly! We call all these bikes the "Harley Street Glide" class, because the Street Glide is The Motor Company’s perennial best-seller, and the new “Special” edition is the world’s favorite bagger. Harley has been developing and designing this bike for many years and the others are all fairly new to the game in comparison. Harley has had much time to perfect and test the Street Glide. Facebook forcing law abiding biker motorcycle clubs to switch from a personal page to a "page": When you start a motorcycle club we suggest you set up a Facebook page instead of a personal profile. The reason is that after you get over a certain amount of friends, Facebook will force you into becoming a page and you will loose all your history and pictures. This recently happened to the Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. When you have a Facebook page not as many people will see your posts and this is due to Facebook's algorithm. They want you to pay money to "boost" your posts, so more people see it. This is fine for a business, but most of us are non-profit organizations. Clubs are not generally going to pay, so other bikers can see their posts, so this is a bit ridiculous. Facebook page comment: Ron Trusty One of the best web sites I have ever used. If you ow a Harley you need to check this guys out. Emails covered: Jon Philibrick Great job on both vids. I am impressed at the thoroughness of your product, especially noting the time you put into the learning process of the BB functions. You answered my questions on the Navigation areas and so much more on the rest of the different areas. You really overloaded me but at the same time, I now know where to go to find specific answers on the many different areas. And your presentation of the material was down to earth, easy to understand and most of all, functional. Now I have a "go to" reference for my unanswered questions which HD left me and others in the dark. My next purchase will be the BB software video since I anticipate it will be in greater depth than my experience of downloading HD software. So thanks again for your videos and time spent in researching the HD dark holes and producing such a fine product. My response: Thanks so much Jon for the kind words and feedback. It is so nice to hear that all the hard work and going the extra mile is appreciated. I am always concerned that I am creating content that is useful and well presented & as you see trying to make it better. If I feel it is outdated it drives me nuts until I overhaul everything and get it out. I don’t want anyone to ever feel like they did not get what they paid for. I’m a bit obsessive….LOL Mark Rosselet of Hilliard, Ohio Is there any certain products that you like to use when cleaning and polishing both the painted and chromed surfaces of the bike. I have tried several but have not found one that I can truly say is the best that I have used. Like to keep the bike looking great so looking for a good solution. My response: I have used much stuff over the years. However, I came across Bug Slide several years ago that that is all I use. It absolutely works on everything. Chrome, Paint, Wheels etc…… Great for a dry cleaning solution. For a wet clean solution I just use regular car soap. The link below is to where I purchase my Bug Slide from (Dakota-Shields). I don’t get paid to send you there. So, If you could please take a moment and drop the owner, Dick Peters, a line for me via email or phone I would appreciate it. Tell him that Ryan Urlacher at the Law Abiding Biker Podcast sent you his way and that he should be sponsoring us. That would be great bro. * DAKOTA-SHIELD LINK Daniel Gilbert of Quebec, Canada I'm trying to find information on front rotor replacement for my 2011 flhx. I've seen your video on how to remove the front wheel, but is there anything specific I should know when replacing rotors such as torque specification? My response: There are torque specs you will want to follow for the rotor. Each year is a bit different, so a quick caller to your local dealer and they will tell you. Unless you have a service manual (that is where your dealer will look up the specs). ________________________________________________________________ CHECK US OUT AND SUBSCRIBE:   Website: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com   Email & Voicemail: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com/Contact   Phone Hotline: 509-731-3548   Twitter: https://twitter.com/LawAbidingBiker   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lawabidingbiker        YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/scrappy587     Google Plus Page: https://plus.google.com/b/104041070580228657262/+Lawabidingbiker587   Instagram: http://instagram.com/lawabidingbiker     RSS: feed://www.LawAbidingBiker.com/feed   iTunes Direct Link to Podcast:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/law-abiding-biker-podcast/id622424087    Stitcher Radio: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/law-abiding-biker-podcast   TuneIn Radio: http://tunein.com/radio/Law-Abiding-Biker-p562288/

But then I looked in my new 2014 parts catalog and they have a 3 pouch windshield bag for the 2014 touring bikes! The middle pouch is elevated so the vent isn’t blocked. Anyway, keep the podcasts and videos coming. Ride safe brother. Links and info: Three-Pocket Fairing Pouch Harley Part #93300054A $130 from HD People not liking too much. Taking over the anti head buffeting vent. Wind hitting them in forehead etc. For this reason I am not going to buy it Don't want to screw the awesome anti head buffeting vent on the 2014 touring models Here is link to reviews & to purchase the item: http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/3-pocket-fairing-pouch Email: Justin Halsall OF AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands Hi Ryan & LAB co-hosts! I have been listening to your podcast for a while and really like it! I'm somewhat new to riding, got my license and bike in May and have enjoyed every minute I have been able to ride since then. Together with a couple friends I have been doing some tours around the country (the Netherlands) and I'm planning to do some more around Europe both with my friends and with my girlfriend on the back. I would like to know if you guys have any experience with any helmet communications systems to talk to your passenger and/or riding buddies. Is there anything you can recommend and should I pay any attention to anything in particular when going out to get one (or multiple) of these systems? Keep up the good work! Answer: I have heard good things about Chatter Box & Lurch has used them. He had good things to say. Put this question to the community. OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER WEBISTE ==> http://www.lawabidingbiker.com PODCAST-In this episode we try to answer the question on why so many law abiding biker clubs have formed in recent years. We completely approve of course and it is great to see! I dare say that there are more law abiding biker clubs than any other time in U.S. history. It is great to see the motorcycling majority (the ninety nine percenters) taking over the motorcycle biker scene in a huge way. I have “Clint” and “PopEye” in the studio with me to weigh in on this matter. Next, we talk about a recent news related motorcycle story. Apparently, a San Francisco Superior Court Judge recently dismissed lawsuits against BMW motorcycles and Corbin-Pacific Inc brought by a man who claimed that a motorcycle ride gave him an erection that lasted for several months. The man said that vibrations from his 1993 BMW K110RS and Corbin aftermarket seat resulted in a case of priapism, a condition in which a penis remains erect for a prolonged period of time. Of course we tear this lawsuit apart and think that BMW and Corbin seats should have capitalized on this little venture and put Viagra out of business! Heck, I’m still looking to buy a 1993 BMW K110RS with a Corbin seat, but they are all sold out after this story broke? Henry Wolfe, the plaintiff in this lawsuit, went about this thing all wrong by filing a lawsuit to try to get rich. Heck, he was already rich with the woody he had. He should have just went to the companies and marketed this thing right and he would be rich! So, you really have to listen in on this biker podcast episode to get the full scoop. Similar to your Irish accents, your drawl(s) also need some work. But don’t feel bad, I grew up here and don’t sport a drawl. Now, on to oil. I bought my 5 year old son a Honda dirt bike for Christmas. I also have a Honda dirt bike and a new 2014 Street Glide. As I mentioned in an earlier email to Ryan, I’m new to Harley-Davidson, but not new to motorcycles or maintenance. I have been looking for a good synthetic oil to use in the dirt bikes to replace the Honda dino GN4. I’ve read good things about Amsoil and your podcast came at the perfect time. I also plan to try it in the Street Glide when I complete the 5K service. I’ll let you know how it does. Lastly, if you’re reading this and considering buying Ryan’s oil change/service/inspection video. DO IT…! It is thorough, informative, and nicely done. I also included a donation. My only request is that you guys use it towards the “Podcast Adult Beverage Fund”. Have one on me! Rob from The Lone Star State…” Notes: Rob was referencing the Law Abiding Biker Biker maintenance video and our “Amsoil” podcast episode. Podcast Episode #26 Free Maintenance Video For Sale Maintenance Video From: Rick Besser of Lacey, WA “Hey Ryan, Wonder if I might ask you a question about switching from standard oil to Synthetic. I Have 1000 miles on a 2013 fat bob and want to switch.. How do I make sure and get ALL the oil out of the Crank?? is there a trick to it?? Thank you in advance and love your site..Also the Europeans do as well!!” MY RESPONSE: “Don’t worry about getting every last drop out. Just drain it normal and then switch to Synthetic. The Synthetic will take over from there on out. No sweat.” From: From: Dick Curtis (Reference Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #38 titled: Belt final drive vs. Chain final drive) “I have my own experience to share regarding your ‘belts rule, chains drool’ episode. First, I think you should have stressed that type of drive shouldn’t be the deciding factor. They all work well. And it’s not practical to change from one type to another so pick your bike and just do what maintenance needs to be done. Second, lubrication takes about five minutes every other fuel stop. There are easy ways to keep it from being messy. Auto-oilers are available for $50 and up if you prefer that route. Modern chains don’t stretch until it’s near replacement time. Over fifty thousand miles you can expect to replace it four times ($400), sprockets twice ($160), lube it 150 times (let’s guess a can of lube does it ten times @$8/can=$120) total $680. Add labor cost if you’re not doing it yourself ($400). Breakage is a non-issue since most chains use a riveted master link. Changing sprockets is common on metric bikes. It can be done by the side of the road in fifteen minutes if you wanted to but unless you rode to the woods or a track day you probably wouldn’t bother. Metric bikes turn 9000 rpm or even faster. A gear change can put you in the optimum part of the power band whatever your style of riding. You don’t do that with big twins because you have big torque available over your entire rpm range.” From: Tom McGoldrick of Deep Haven, Minnesota (He references Law Abiding Biker Podcast Episode #37 titled: Riding Motorcycles in a Biker Club Environment | Group Motorcycle Riding Dynamics) “Hi guys love the podcast. It truly appeals to a wide variety of riders beyond even “metric” bikes. A spacesuit wearing, BWM riding, eat every meal in a different state type of rider like me can enjoy the show. I have been riding since the 80’s and am amazed at how much more there is to learn. It has been an education for me on bike clubs, the whole issue of patching in and club organization. I thought episode 37 was particularly good. I love to watch a tight and professional group flow down the road it is truly a thing of beauty. I don’t think most people realize how difficult it is to do well and safely. If you ever see a rider in a faded spacesuit cruising down the road on a red BMW don’t forget to wave back.” Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up! ______________________________________________________________   CHECK US OUT AND SUBSCRIBE:   Website: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com   Email & Voicemail: http://www.LawAbidingBiker.com/Contact   Phone Hotline: 509-731-3548   Twitter: https://twitter.com/LawAbidingBiker   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lawabidingbiker        YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/scrappy587     Google Plus Page: https://plus.google.com/+Lawabidingbiker587   Instagram: http://instagram.com/lawabidingbiker     RSS: feed://www.LawAbidingBiker.com/feed   iTunes Direct Link to Podcast:  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/law-abiding-biker-podcast/id622424087    Stitcher Radio: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/law-abiding-biker-podcast   TuneIn Radio: http://tunein.com/radio/Law-Abiding-Biker-p562288/

CLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER WEBISTE PODCAST-In this episode of the Law Abiding Biker/Motorcycle Podcast we talk about an array of topics. Did Fonzie from the TV show Happy Days really ride a motorcycle? Does he ride a motorcycle now? Henry Winkler was the actor that played Fonzie on Happy Days and a character that we all came to know and love. He played the tough “biker” type. Here is a direct link to an article reference Fonzie along with a YouTube link: We opened the show with a little snippet of an awesome song called “Remember the Name”. You can get it on iTunes and elsewhere. Song: Remember the name (2005) Artist: Fort Minor (feat. Styles of Beyond) Album: The Rising Tied (Deluxe Version) LINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Minor I found a great video on Facebook. It is an awesome way for bikers/motorcyclists to fold their chaps, so that they take less room in your saddle bags. Additionally, she shows how to roll them and fold them in a way that they then snap together, keeping them rolled tightly. You really must see this video. I shared the video on the Law Abiding Biker Facebook Page and put it below for your viewing. We also play a voicemail from a long time supporter of the Law Abiding Biker/Motorcycle Podcast, Greg Gaxiola. Thanks Greg for your continued support! We go over some ongoing comments on the Law Abiding Biker Media website in reference to my 2014 Street Glide Special review and video. The community is really helping each other out and there is much good information, so check it out! My 2014 Street Glide Special does have adjustable rear shocks. Their is a knob/dial behind the left saddlebag that you can turn to make the suspension softer or firmer. I have not played with this yet, but will in the future and report back. The regular Street Glide has adjustable rear air shocks that you need a bicycle stye pump for. I believe the valve stem to adjust the air shocks is also between the left saddle bag and rear fender. That’s where it was on my 2011 Street Glide anyways. Last, we review an IOS App called GroupMe. The motorcycle club I am in, Sworn Few Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, has utilized the GroupMe App since our inception and find it to be a very useful tool for us to conduct all kinds of club business. GroupMe is a free private chatting app. You can set up as many different groups as you want and assign a photo to each. Each person can also assign themselves a photo. Additionally, you can single a person out of a group and then just talk with them one on one. The GrouMe app has worked flawlessly for our motorcycle club and it is always updated. They have even added some cool new features. You’ll have to listen to this podcast episode to get the whole scoop and review.
