Welcome to the Fore Golfers Network/Michigan Golf Live Podcast Ep 487 - Global Golf Adventures & Rankings with Jason Deegan and Jason Lusk We welcome two of the most well-traveled and respected voices in golf media: Jason Deegan, Managing Editor at GolfPass.com, and Jason Lusk, Director of Travel and Rankings for Golfweek. Together, they have played, photographed, and reviewed thousands of courses across the globe, bringing an insider's perspective on the world's top golf destinations and what makes each course memorable. In this episode, host Bill Hobson sits down with Deegan and Lusk during a rain delay at Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota, where Tom Lehman recently completed a 27-hole redesign. The conversation dives into the stories behind their extensive travels, how golf course rankings are created, and why certain destinations consistently stand out to both casual players and golf purists. Deegan shares how his Michigan roots and early career, including coverage of major events like the Ryder Cup and PGA Championship, propelled him into a global golf career. He opens up about “pinch-me” moments—like standing on a tee box in New Zealand—and the joy of uncovering the artistic elements of golf course design around the world. Lusk, with his deep experience in both editorial design and travel coverage, reveals the behind-the-scenes work that goes into Golfweek's trusted rankings. He also recounts humorous and jaw-dropping travel stories, from playing unexpected pro-ams alongside Fred Funk and Bernhard Langer to battling travel nightmares with lost clubs and endless airport delays. The episode also highlights the importance of authenticity in course rankings. Both guests emphasize that their lists are based on genuine golfer reviews or expert panels, not advertising dollars, and why rankings should be seen as conversation starters rather than absolute truths. Deegan and Lusk reflect on the future of golf travel and share their personal dream destinations. Whether it's the rugged charm of Ireland, the pristine beauty of New Zealand, or iconic American destinations like Bandon Dunes, these experts know where the next great golf adventure awaits. Listeners will come away with: Insights on how golf media has evolved from print to digital. Travel tips and hacks learned from decades on the road. A better understanding of what makes a golf course truly exceptional. Inspiration to explore both local gems and bucket-list destinations. Whether you're a seasoned golfer planning your next trip or simply love the stories that make golf unique, this episode is a must-listen. Tune in and discover the passion, humor, and expertise that Deegan and Lusk bring to every fairway they visit. ---------------- Subscribe to the FGN Podcast Watch FGN videos on YouTube Check out our other sports pod: Church Pew Sports TEXT or CALL (989) 272-2383 to share your thoughts, comments, suggestions, and questions

Christian Ashley and TJ Blackwell engage in a thorough examination of the film "Flubber," a cinematic endeavor featuring Robin Williams, which currently holds a rating of 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. They explore the peculiarities surrounding the film's reception, particularly considering its whimsical narrative and the comedic talents of its leading actor. Throughout their discussion, they reflect on the film's thematic elements, including the protagonist's struggles with personal relationships and the innovative yet nonsensical science that drives the plot. Both hosts acknowledge the film's shortcomings, particularly in terms of special effects and pacing, yet they also emphasize its inherent charm and entertainment value. Ultimately, they invite listeners to reconsider the classification of "Flubber" as a "rotten film," highlighting the importance of finding merit even in works deemed flawed. The discourse navigates the complexities surrounding the film 'Flubber,' a remake of the classic 'Absent-Minded Professor.' It is imperative to recognize that while the film has garnered a critique from audiences and critics, with scores languishing around 24% and 33% respectively, there exists a divergence between critical reception and viewer enjoyment. Our conversation unfolds as we reminisce about the film's premise, where Robin Williams portrays a brilliant but forgetful scientist, Brainerd, whose creation of Flubber—a pliable, buoyant substance—serves as both a comedic device and a narrative catalyst. The film's exploration of themes such as innovation versus incompetence, personal relationships, and the ramifications of scientific exploration provides an intriguing backdrop to our discussion. Moreover, we examine the film's nostalgic charm and its capacity to engage younger audiences, despite its apparent shortcomings in special effects and pacing. Ultimately, the conversation reveals that while 'Flubber' may not ascend to the pantheon of cinematic masterpieces, it offers a light-hearted viewing experience that remains enjoyable for a family audience.Takeaways: The film 'Flubber' serves as an example of a light-hearted comedy that, despite its flaws and a low Rotten Tomatoes score, provides entertainment value through the performance of Robin Williams. In discussing 'Flubber', we acknowledge the film's failure to meet certain expectations, particularly in terms of its special effects and pacing, which may contribute to its negative reception. The narrative of 'Flubber' primarily revolves around the character of Professor Brainard and his personal conflicts, rather than focusing exclusively on the titular substance itself, which may have confused audiences. We explore the film's attempts at humor and charm, noting that while it may not be considered a classic, it still holds a nostalgic appeal for those who enjoyed it during their childhood. The episode draws attention to the juxtaposition of the film's whimsical elements with deeper themes of love and commitment, as demonstrated through the character's repeated absences at his wedding. Ultimately, 'Flubber' is regarded as a fun and engaging experience, albeit not without its shortcomings, inviting viewers to find enjoyment in its silliness and charm. ..Check out the rest of our Rotten Films 2025 Summer Drive-In series:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/949652f2-fee2-4b3e-acbf-e2bb8dcdcddc.Listen to all of our film review episodes:https://player.captivate.fm/collection/6a01e00d-cfd7-4041-a7a4-1fd32c545050.Check out other episodes with Christian:
Send us a textIt's summer and many of y'all will be hitting the road to travel and see something new (or revisit places you enjoy). I haven't done a travel-themed podcast in a while, so in the next couple of episodes, I'm going to go over the highlights of driving the Great River Road. In this episode, I start with an overview of what to expect from the drive plus some overall highlights. Then, I start a north to south trek down the Great River Road from Itasca State Park and ending at Lake Pepin. Along the way, I'll comment on the following places: Bemidji, Grand Rapids, Crosby, Brainerd, Little Falls, St. Cloud, Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the communities around Lake Pepin. I obviously won't be going into great depth about any particular place but instead want to give you a sense of the variety of attractions and experiences you can expect along the Mississippi River, with some picks about my favorite spots (and where to get good food and drinks). In the next episode, I'll cover the rest of the Great River Road from Lake Pepin to the Mississippi's confluence with the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois.

The housing market today is in an increasingly unsustainable paradox: younger Americans need houses to be more affordable so that they can become homeowners. Meanwhile, homeowners and the entire U.S. economy need houses to rise in price to make them a secure and profitable investment. Thus, we are trapped between making homeownership increasingly difficult or sinking the economy. Saving Elephants host Josh Lewis is joined by president of Strong Towns Chuck Marohn to discuss his latest book: Escaping the Housing Trap. About Chuck Marohn From strongtowns.org Charles Marohn (known as “Chuck” to friends and colleagues) is the founder and president of Strong Towns. With decades of experience as a land use planner and civil engineer, Marohn is on a mission to help cities and towns become stronger and more prosperous. He spreads the Strong Towns message through in-person presentations, the Strong Towns Podcast, and his books and articles. In recognition of his efforts and impact, Planetizen named him one of the 15 Most Influential Urbanists of all time in 2017 and 2023. Marohn grew up on a small farm in central Minnesota. On his 17th birthday, he joined the Minnesota National Guard, which he served in for nine years. During this time, he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Minnesota. He later returned to his alma mater to complete a master's in Urban and Regional Planning. As well as being passionate about building a stronger America, he loves playing music, is an obsessive reader, and religiously follows his favorite baseball team, the Minnesota Twins. Marohn and his wife live with their two daughters in their hometown of Brainerd, Minnesota.

What a difference the level of golfer makes! As world number one Scottie Scheffler was tying a PGA Tour record for lowest 72 hole score in Texas at the CJ Cup, Jeff was fighting swing thoughts in a buddies tournament in Brainerd. We will dive into Scheffler's win and if this will propel him to a run like we saw last year or if it is just a nice win on an easy course. Jeff played on a buddies trip to Brainerd and had to fight a lot of swing thoughts this weekend. We will get into how full swing issues can creep into the rest of your game on this episode. While doing that, Tim and Jeff get into their "early extension" issues and some possible fixes for it.
