Abraham Lincoln once shared his deepest thoughts with a friend during a simple carriage ride down a country lane—an undistracted conversation that seems almost foreign today. Yet this is what motorcycling still offers: a chance to be present, to experience reality directly, to defy a world that wants to numb us. When you swing your leg over your motorcycle, you're not just going for a ride—you're making a deliberate choice to feel alive, to connect with what's real, to tune out artificially amplified negative voices and engage with the beautiful world that's actually out there. Ready to experience life more fully?

Destination rides in the mountains of Colorado can be magical. Hidden in the mountain town of Nederland, Colorado, sits a treasure unlike any other. A treasure built and shared by a Vietnam veteran, Scott Harrison. In this deeply moving conversation with Allie Wagner, the Carousel of Happiness Outreach Director and podcast host, we discover how this labor of love has transformed nearly 1.2 million riders. Allie shares fascinating insights about the carousel's unique features – from the meticulously researched animals to the "Somewhere Else" wall where visitors honor loved ones who have passed. She explains the almost magical effect the carousel has on visitors, who often find themselves moved to tears or compelled to share their life stories upon entering. For motorcycle enthusiasts traveling Colorado's stunning Peak to Peak Highway, the Carousel of Happiness offers more than just a charming stop. It provides a rare opportunity to reconnect with childlike wonder and presence – similar to the feeling riders experience on the open road. As Allie beautifully articulates, joy is our birthright as humans, something we intuitively understand as children before life's complexities create distance from that truth.Whether you're planning a ride through the Colorado mountains or simply seeking inspiration, this conversation reminds us of the profound impact one person's healing journey can have on the entire world. The carousel stands as a testament to resilience, creativity, and the transformative power of not delaying joy – a three-minute ride that just might change your perspective on what matters most.Carousel of Happiness podcast CBS On the Road featuring Scott Harrison and the Carousel of HappinessCBS Sunday Morning with Steve HartmanAtlas Obscura feature

From Moon Frog Coffee Shop in Winter Park supporting adaptive skiing programs to chance encounters with animal rescuers at local hangouts, the motorcycle journey repeatedly intersects with community heroes who demonstrate extraordinary heart. These encounters remind us why the motorcycling community remains one of the most generous groups around—because riders understand what it means to rely on others, to help those in need, and to appreciate the gift of freedom that comes with two wheels.Mentioned in this episode:Rocky Mountain Motorsports: 1405 Madison Ave #4065, Loveland, CO 80538 (970) 669-6565Moon Frog Coffee: https://moonfrog0.wixsite.com/my-site The Grounds Internet & Coffee Lounge: https://www.facebook.com/thegroundslaramie#Buddy's House Dog Fosters: https://buddysfosters.org/

Sam Moses worked for Sports Illustrated for 18 years, the majority of which as its motorsports writer, covering events like the Indy 500, the Daytona 500 and the Long Beach Grand Prix back when it was a round of the Formula One World Championship. But his first love was motorcycles, and motorcycle racing, so Moses pitched those stories to Sports Illustrated and, with the help of his SI editor Bob Brown, he was able to write stories that no one else was writing. Those stories included his first motorcycle racing feature on a young, dirt-tracking Kenny Roberts in 1974. But he didn't stop there. He kept pitching those stories, bringing motorcycle racing to a new audience with more feature stories, including Roberts during his World Championship years, and the three-time 500cc World Champion's challenger, a young Freddie Spencer. We got the chance to chat with Moses from his island home of Lombok in Indonesia to chat about all that and more.Support the show

Some announcements carry more weight than others, and this one comes straight from the heart. Peace Love Moto is now officially sponsoring two remarkable Northern Colorado nonprofits that embody the spirit of joy, healing, and community connection. The Carousel of Happiness in Nederland stands as a testament to resilience and wonder. My friend Scott Harrison, a Vietnam veteran who found solace in a tiny music box during combat, dedicated 26 years to hand-carving 56 magnificent animals. These creatures now bring joy to visitors from around the world as they ride the restored 1910 carousel to the melodies of a century-old Wurlitzer band organ. It's a place where joy isn't just an emotion – it's a tangible presence, carefully crafted and freely shared.Just minutes from my home, Hearts and Horses offers another kind of healing magic. This therapeutic riding center serves children with disabilities, veterans battling PTSD, and individuals with dementia through equine-assisted therapy. With approximately 30 horses and a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers, they create safe spaces where physical and emotional healing blossoms through the unique bond between humans and horses. These initiatives have awakened something profound in me – a calling to create more meaningful connections with you, my listeners. While I may record this podcast from my son's former bedroom in Loveland, the feedback I receive suggests many of you crave authentic experiences: riding Colorado's back roads, witnessing nature's magnificence, and meeting extraordinary people making a difference in our world. I'm actively exploring ways we might connect beyond these audio episodes – perhaps through shared motorcycle journeys where together we can seek that elusive peace of mind we all desire. The path forward isn't entirely clear yet, but the destination feels right – finding joy, purpose, and connection in an increasingly disconnected world. Stay tuned as this vision takes shape.Support the show

Dave Roper has been racing motorcycles for more than half a century. The New England native is probably best known for campaigning exotic vintage machinery under the Robert Iannucci-led Team Obsolete banner. He's fast, too. In fact, Roper won more than half of the races he entered on Iannucci's 1959 Matchless G50, including, famously, the 1984 Senior Historic TT at the Isle of Man.“We lived relatively close to Lime Rock Park in northwest Connecticut,” Roper tells “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long. “We used to go up there and watch the sports cars. That's what I thought I wanted to do.” Once he found motorcycling, however, Roper was immediately hooked. “Motorcycles are more accessible,” he explains. “They're cheaper, they're smaller, they're easier to work on.”Now in his 70s, Roper has been the subject of many editorial projects, including a documentary film, “Motorcycle Man.” “I don't feel like I'm all that special as a racer,” he says. “I've had some success. I've arranged my life so I can continue doing it; I'm not married, I don't have any children. I love the social aspect of it, traveling and seeing people who you share a very special thing with.” Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

Remember Arthur "Fonzie" Fonzarelli? That leather-jacketed, motorcycle-riding tough guy from Happy Days who could start a jukebox with a tap of his elbow and had girls flocking to him with a snap of his fingers? Beyond the coolness factor, Fonzie represents something profound for motorcycle riders. The beauty of Fonzie's character lies in what's underneath. On the surface, he was the classic biker stereotype—independent, slightly dangerous, utterly self-assured on his Triumph. Yet beneath that tough exterior beat a heart of pure gold. He was fiercely loyal to the Cunningham family, offered surprisingly profound advice to Richie and friends, and consistently used his influence to protect rather than intimidate. Fonzie showed us that true strength isn't about dominating others but lifting them up.As motorcyclists, we can learn valuable lessons from this cultural icon. Fonzie taught us that appearances can be deceiving, that you can be strong while still showing vulnerability, and that authentic kindness never diminishes your cool factor. His character reminds us that when we're out on the open road, we carry more than just our bikes—we carry the opportunity to break stereotypes and demonstrate that riders can embody both toughness and tenderness. In a world that often judges books by their covers, Fonzie showed that the most rebellious thing might just be having the courage to be kind. So the next time you're suited up for a ride, remember the Fonz—and consider how you might bring a little more peace and love to the roads you travel.Support the show

It's hard to argue against Road America being one of the best racing facilities in the world. The track itself is long, it's fast, and it always produces close races. As for the rest of it... well, you'd have to look long and hard to find even a blade of grass that's out of place. A favorite of MotoAmerica's racers, teams and fans, the series is excited to be heading to the picturesque circuit in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, May 30-June 1. For a bit more background on Road America, we caught up with the track's Communications Director John Ewert to learn even more about the racetrack and the local community on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice. For years, I'd listened to my parents—now in their 90s—share stories about their brief time in California during the 1950s when my father was drafted for basic training. As a young Texas couple who had barely left their small hometown, their journey to the Pacific coast represented both a frightening challenge and an incredible adventure. Though I could have flown and reached my destination in hours, I knew that experiencing this meaningful place required the unfiltered perspective that only motorcycle travel provides. If you're fortunate enough to own a motorcycle, you possess not just a vehicle but a gateway to experiences that can't be replicated any other way. The open road awaits with both its challenges and rewards. When you return, you'll carry not just memories of places visited, but of conversations had, kindnesses exchanged, and a deeper understanding of both the world around you and your place within it. From a teenage pizza-slinging street racer to a professional National Hot Rod Association-winning Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racer, Steve Johnson understands the value of humble beginnings. He also knows exactly how it feels to reach 200 mph in less than 7 seconds. “I always tell everybody it's like hanging on to a bullet after it's been shot out of a gun.”“First to 500” is Johnson's career calling card. “If you go to all the races in the year that the sanctioning body puts on,” he explains to host Mark Long on this episode of the “Driven to Ride” podcast, “and if you do it for 38 years, you'll have 500, too.” That is a competition milestone no other NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer has ever reached. In fact, no one has even come close.Rather than focus on his many racing successes, however, Johnson would rather talk about his off-track efforts. A California native who now calls Alabama home, Johnson is big on helping students achieve their goals. To that end, he founded the BAT-man Scholarship Program (“BAT” is an acronym for “Be A Technician”), awarded at high schools and technical colleges across the U.S. Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

Laid-back South African Dominic Doyle, who now calls Columbus, Indiana, home, is a bonafide championship contender in the 2025 MotoAmerica SC-Project Twins Cup Championship. With two rounds and four races in the bank, Doyle is third in the championship with three podiums out of the four races. Unfortunately, mechanical issues kept him from scoring points in race one at Barber Motorsports Park or he'd be even closer to the front. In addition to racing his Giaccmoto Yamaha Racing YZF-R7 in the SC-Project Twins Cup series, Doyle also races a Yamaha MT-09 SP in the Mission Super Hooligan National Championship, and that's what he will be racing in the next round of the MotoAmerica Championship at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, May 4-6. We caught up with Doyle in the days leading up to the Road Atlanta round to talk about his racing and much more on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the show

And the next thing you know, she's off racing in Europe in the new FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship. We caught up with the world traveler from her hotel room in Spain just a week after competing in the opening round of the 2025 FIM series so she could fill us in on all things Mallory Dobbs for this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And BiceSupport the show

Greek philosopher Plato is credited with the expression, “Our need will be the real creator,” which, loosely translated centuries later, became, “The true creator is necessity, who is the mother of our invention.” Peter Dering knows this feeling all too well, having come up with a device that, in the words of his company, Peak Design, “would make carrying and using a camera an absolute joy.”As he explains to host Mark Long in this episode of “Driven to Ride,” Dering moved to San Francisco for a construction engineering job. With his first bonus, he bought a Honda Nighthawk 750 and an SLR camera. “I used to ride with my camera slung across my chest every day,” says Dering. “Whoever designed the camera strap basically said, “Here's a business idea for you.”Nowadays, Peak Design offers a medley of innovative products, from unique backpacks and duffels to vibration-damping mobile-phone mounts and sturdy camera accessories. “We try to solve problems that we ourselves, the users of the product, encounter,” says Dering. “That's what we're known for, giving a solid rethink to products that are out there in the world.” Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

In this soul-searching episode of Peace Love Moto, we will explore the powerful connection between Bob Seger's 1982 anthem Roll Me Away and the spirit of motorcycling. More than just a classic 1980's rock ballad, this song has become a guiding light for some riders—and anyone at a crossroads—searching for meaning, direction, and freedom.Whether you're facing uncertainty in life, standing at a metaphorical fork in the road, or just longing to ride toward something more, listen as we break down the emotional depth of Seger's lyrics and how they mirror the transformative journey of motorcycle riders just like you and me.Motorcycles serve as more than machines—they become moving sanctuaries for clarity, healing, and growth. Discover why “rolling away” isn't about running from life but about embracing the unknown to rediscover yourself.
The 2025 MotoAmerica Superbike Championship gets started this week with two races at Barber Motorsports Park, April 4-6, so who better to talk to than MotoAmerica Live+ lead analyst Roger Hayden to see what he thinks about the coming season. If you're a motorcyclist living and riding in the U.S., Nick Haris works for you. Even more so if you're one of the more than 200,000 members of the American Motorcyclist Association, whose tagline is “Rights, Riding, and Racing.” Haris leads a team of six who comprise the AMA's government-relations department. Their job is to protect your rights as a motorcyclist in the halls of government. In the second of two interviews with Haris, “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long digs into significant issues facing 21st-century motorcyclists, such as autonomous vehicles. “If this technology cannot recognize and respond correctly to other road users,” states Haris, “and I don't care if it is a pedestrian, a bicyclist, a motorcycle, or another car, it shouldn't be allowed on public roads.”Haris sheds light on other hot-button subjects, like alternative energy, helmet laws, land management, and lane filtering. “I often say, ‘Ten percent of the world has an opinion about motorcycling. They're in favor of it—you and I. Ten percent have some reason they don't like it. And then, 80% don't care.' So, let's not move them into the, ‘I don't like motorcycling category,' by doing something stupid.'” Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

The statement "needs no introduction" is somewhat overused. But in the case of this week's guest on Off Track With Carruthers And Bice, it's accurate. Three-time AMA Grand National Champion and three-time 500cc GP World Champion Kenny Roberts truly needs no introduction. We were fortunate enough to catch up with Roberts at Circuit of The Americas with the legend in Texas for MotoGP and, more importantly, the road-racing debut of his Team Roberts' protégé Kody Kopp in MotoAmerica's new Parts Unlimited Talent Cup By Motul series. Roberts is all-in on the new class that is designed to find the next American MotoGP racer, and we chatted with the "King" about that and so much more.Support the show
This week on Chasin' The Racin' podcast, Dom Herbertson & Josh Corner are joined by Scottish professional motorcycle racer best known for his determination & success in Moto3. On the pod today, the lads talked through McPhee's journey through the ranks from the early days, the British 125 Championship to Moto3, World Supersport and now, excitingly, moving to British Superbikes in 2025 with Hawk Racing. John comes to the trailer equipped with a list of funny and challenging stories he's experienced during his career, from challenges brought through Covid to the struggles that came with a long haul budget airline flight!
In a class that's sure to be full of surprises in its debut season, Chase Black threw the first Parts Unlimited Talent Cup By Motul curveball when he came out on top of the timesheets in the two-day Dunlop preseason test at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas, this week. Black and his Chase Black Racing Krämer APX-350 MA led the way on both days and was the only rider to crack the 1:21 barrier. We caught up with the 18-year-old just hours after the test concluded to chat about the test, his new Krämer, the series opening round at Circuit of The Americas, and his life away from racing (which is mostly just more racing) on this week's episode of Off Track With Carruthers And Bice.Support the show
