Another Thursday has landed on our calendars and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, the boys were talking about putting the TVs up at Nation HQ, penguins at West Edmonton Mall, Chalmers' introduction to coffee, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the podcast got started with a cryptic conversation about an upcoming project Tyler and Caroline will be working on around Christmas, which kicked off a random tangent about what it means to drive the Nation Truck. How did this whole thing fit together? Who knows, but that's the beauty of having the Real Life Podcast fall off the rails. Sticking with random nonsense, the conversation turned to West Edmonton Mall after Caroline recently learned that there are seals and other animals roaming the mall. Somehow the animal talk turned into another deep dive into Tyler's refusal to take a flight longer than six hours, prompting everyone to pile on with a list of countries he'll never be able to visit. Lastly, we wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a look at the massive games that are coming to our city this week, and Caroline explained just how important this next week is for Canadian soccer as they look to qualify for the World Cup.
Another Thursday has landed on the calendars and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, the boys were talking about carnival games at Nation HQ, the Oilers' loss to the Flyers, beer league stories, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys jumped in with a conversation about carnival games and specifically which one they would like to have in the office. With that nonsense out of the way, the conversation turned towards last night's loss to the Philadelphia Flyers and whether it's anything to be overly concerned about. Should we be worried about the goaltending? What about the defence? Changing gears, the guys got into a couple of beer league stories after Caroline Szwed inspired everyone with a call to action for stories about everyone's time in the rinks. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the podcast with a serious discussion about Kyle Beach's heartwrenching interview with Rick Westhead on TSN yesterday. Needless to say, the hockey world has a tonne of work to do to even begin to solve the horrific cultural issues it has hovering over it like a black cloud.
The long weekend may be over but that doesn't mean the fun has to end because the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get this new week started. In today's episode, the guys looked at the new recording studio, Tyler's tough day, previewed the new season, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a conversation about the new recording studio and all of the new content that's happening at Nation HQ for the upcoming season. As you'll hear, all of that new content meant more opportunities for Tyler to stress out which is an endless source of entertainment for anyone that gets to watch the chaos happen. Changing gears, the guys spoke with great enthusiasm about the new season as they walked through some of the futures bets that are listed on PointsBet. With the Oilers kicking off their season tomorrow night against the Canucks, the guys expressed their excitement about the new season and took a few guesses as to what the atmosphere will be like at Rogers Place for the first non-preseason game with fans in the building. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life by trying to extend the show long enough where Tyler wasn't able to get the food he was so desperately needing.
Another Thursday has arrived on our calendars and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast are back with a brand new episode to help you get you through what's left of your week. Today, the boys were talking about the new podcast studio, Brendan Perlini, and a whole lot more. To kick off the Thursday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with stories from their school days for some reason, which led down a strange road of grudges about parents giving their stuff away. That led to the boys chatting about the new recording studio and how only half of the cast members were told the podcast was being recorded at Nation HQ today. Somehow, the podcast studio talk caused Chalmers to complain about Connor McDavid's social media feed only featuring ads as opposed to what he's doing on a day-to-day basis. The guys also checked in on the latest round of NFL fan fights which cause Wanye, Jay, and Chalmers to reminisce about their fighting days and how Chalmers was apparently to blame for all of it. Lastly, we wrapped up the podcast with another round of construction tips with Chalmers to help everyone get ready for the coming winter.
The weekend may be over but the fun is far from over as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help you get through a sunny Monday here in the capital city. In today's episode, the guys covered the Oilersnation Open, Woz's missing toe, Dogpatch opening up, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the podcast got started with a look at the Oilersnation Open that happened this past Thursday out at Cougar Creek Golf Resort. For the guys at Oilersnation, this golf tourney was the first time we were able to get together as a group in over 18 months, and the fun everyone had seemed long overdue. From the weather being perfect to the side bets that were happening on the course, everyone told their favourite stories from what was undoubtedly an amazing day for everyone involved. From there, the podcast took a hard left as Woz told the story of a dog biting off one of his toes and what that meant for him now that he's slightly off balance. Changing gears, the guys had a quick chat about the new Nation HQ that is set to open shortly and how everyone is excited to not only get back in the office but to actually have somewhere cool to go and work. For everyone at Oilersnation, being together always ends up with us putting out our best work so it's no surprise that the guys are all looking forward to getting back to the office. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with some hockey talk as we're drawing ever closer to the start of the 2021-22 NHL season, which means it's time for the Oilers Kool-Aid to start going down.
The weekend may be over but the fun is far from over as the boys are back with a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast to help get your week started and to make sense of the world around us. In today's episode, the guys covered Jay's trip to Nashville, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with a recap of Jay's trip to Nashville and what it means for the Nation Network moving forward. From high-level meetings with a powerful mentor to the food tour he powered through and what it potentially means for citizens that will be joining us on an upcoming Nation Vacation. From there, the conversation turned towards the Oilersnation Open and how excited everyone is to get together and hit the links at Cougar Creek for the first tourney in two years. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of the podcast with a discussion about Dogpatch that is set to open up soon, so the guys walked through the history of Nation HQ offices they've worked at before eventually landing in their new digs later on this summer.
Thursday means that your workweek is winding down and that the boys from the Real Life Podcast have a new episode in the books and ready for your ear holes. On today's podcast, the guys covered the new Nation HQ, disc golf, our new answering machine, current events, and a whole lot more. Kicking off today's podcast, the guys got started with Tyler Yaremchuk's confession that he broke into the new Nation HQ building and wandered around for a little personal tour despite the fact that it's not yet opened. From the pub (Dogpatch) to the bakery (Bread + Butter) to the new recording studio, Tyer had plenty of good things to say about the new office and what's to come. Changing gears, the guys got back into their disc golf dreams after Chalmers got an email from Eric Moon, a loyal Real Life listener and avid disc chucker. Will this email be the first step to actually getting out and rattling the chains? Sticking with summer sports, Baggedmilk asked the guys for some help with his pursuit of new golf clubs now that he's decided he wants to get out of his house after a year and a half indoors. Lastly, the guys wrapped up this week's podcast by launching a new segment called Current Events with Chalmers that may or may not happen on a weekly basis.
A new week is out of the package and that means the boys from the Real Life Podcast were back with a brand new episode to get you through what’s left of the week. Jumping into today's episode, the boys got started with a look at life getting back to normal a little bit as Jay was able to check in from his office at Little Brick cafe for the first time in ages. Despite recording the podcast from the office at Nation HQ being a normal thing to do, it also feels very abnormal because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Somehow that conversation about re-opening business turned into the guys talking about how poorly they did in high school, whether or not they could pass a HS test, and subsequently confirming that their lack of overall knowledge does not necessarily mean that they're dumb. From there, the show pivoted to answering listener questions and the guys offered up their worldly wisdom on all matters of life for the low, low price of absolutely nothing.
After missing last week's podcast due to upgrades at Nation HQ, the boys were back today with a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set up for tomorrow night's NHL Draft. On today's podcast, we dove into the Jesse Puljujarvi rumours that really ramped up yesterday, welcome Jim Playfair to the bench, and take all kinds of guesses at what we might be in store for on NHL Draft weekend. To kick off today's episode, how could we start anywhere other than looking at the situation surrounding Jesse Puljujarvi. Yesterday, his agent came out and said that he would not return to Edmonton and would rather play in Europe than suit up for the Oilers, and, as you can imagine, that kicked off a firestorm of activity here on the site and on social media. Are he and his agent approaching this situation correctly? We offered our takes. Sticking with the rumour mill, we looked around the NHL to try and see whether or not we could find a potential trade partner to make something happen. Getting back to the NHL Draft, there has been a lot of talk about the Oilers having interest in Philip Broberg so we discussed the likelihood of the defenceman being taken at #8 given most mock drafts and rankings have him listed lower in the first round. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's episode with a breakdown of some of the big-ticket contracts that have been signed in the past week, including Kevin Hayes' monster deal with the Flyers and Erik Karlsson's eight-year mammoth deal in San Jose.
After a one-week hiatus due to power upgrades getting done at Nation HQ, the boys are back with a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast. This week, the guys talk a whole lot of sports as both the NHL and NBA wrapped up their respective seasons. To start off this week's show, the guys discuss trying to level up the podcast and turn it into something that sounds a little more professional. With the likes of Jason Gregor and Yukon Jack often listening to see how things are going, the need to level up is on everyone's minds and the boys tried to take a step in that direction. Moving on, the Toronto Raptors won their first championship in franchise history and the guys discussed whether or not they got wrapped up in the hype despite not being basketball fans. With the Raptors being front and centre, how could the guys not touch on Drake? As always, Chalmers came in hot with some spicy Drake takes and it kicked off a disagreement about whether or not he was too much of a distraction during this run. Getting off of basketball, the boys dove into the St. Louis Blues' Stanley Cup win, including Brett Hull's amazing post-win celebration and the possibility of Pat Maroon coming back to the Edmonton Oilers this summer. Lastly, Jay and Wanye tell the story of picking up their seats from Rexall Place and what it was like to go in the old building now that the Oilers have moved on.
We're upgrading the power at Nation HQ this week so there was no juice to record this week's podcast. Instead, we welcome you to a 'best of' edition of Oilersnation Radio, featuring our interviews with Georges Laraque and Rob Schremp and another look at the fight that broke out over Bob Nicholson. I have to say, doing ON Radio every week is always a great time because we never know what's going to happen on an episode-to-episode basis. Sometimes we get a chance to talk to former Oilers like Georges Laraque and Rob Schremp and end up having an amazing conversation about everything from the team to life in general. Both guys were incredibly honest and forthright in their conversations with us and it's always incredible to hear about their journies. From life on the road to battles with depression, we covered all kinds of ground with both Georges and Rob and we're still incredibly grateful that they were willing to share their time with us. Not to be outdone, we also wanted to have another look at the time that Jay and Rick yelled at each other following Bob Nicholson's comments that Tobias Rieder was a major cause of the Oilers missing the playoffs this past season. I absolutely love when a fight like this breaks out and I really do enjoy just sitting back and watching the madness unfold.
Welcome, friends, to a brand spankin' new episode of Oilersnation Radio, the award winning podcast that covers all things Edmonton Oilers and anything else that's going on in the world of hockey. This week, we speak to Hart from PuckPedia.com, broke down the Joakim Nygard signing, looked at Dave Tippett, and said goodbye to our beloved Chris the Intern. To start off this week's podcast, we were lucky to welcome Hart from PuckPedia.com to discuss the new partnership that was formed between his killer cap resource site and The Nation Network. We dove into his reasons for starting the site, why the site is different from any of the other cap resources available, and why he felt like hooking up with the Nation is the right play going forward. From there, we got into the Oilers' signing Joakim Nygard to an entry-level contract and tried to predict what he'll do with the team in 2019-20. In other Oilers news, we broke down the report that Dave Tippett is on the verge of being announced as the 16th coach in franchise history and whether or not there is a chance that the deal will fall through. Lastly, we say goodbye to Chris the Intern as today was his last day working at Nation HQ. It's been a hell of a run and we wanted to make sure to give him the send off he deserves.
Welcome back to episode 37 of Oilersnation Radio! This week the boys talk about our defensive pile up, how boring the current Stanley Cup Playoffs are, and what a trade involving Seth Jones to Edmonton would look like. It was also Tyler Yaremchuk’s debut episode as the Oilersnation Radio sound producer. We quickly learned that Tyler is a known fact-checker and made sure we were all stating nothing but accurate facts throughout the episode. We had a very interesting discussion about what Ken Holland should do regarding our defence. As you know, there are quite a few defensive prospects quickly working their way up the ranks in Bakersfield, and it puts us in a pretty good position. As we grow in depth, it gives Holland an opportunity to make some moves while clearing out some of the crowd that is our defence. Would now be a good time to trade Darnell Nurse while his value his high? This has been a pretty hot topic in Nation HQ lately, so of course, we dove pretty deep into that topic.
It was a special day for us at Nation HQ as we welcomed our first-ever guest onto the podcast. Legendary Oiler Big Georges Laraque — thrower of fists, scorer of hat tricks, and all-around beauty of an individual — joined us to talk about the Oilers of now and the Oilers of back then. Personally, this was an incredibly exciting conversation for me as Georges was my favourite Oiler as a kid. His Oilers jersey was the first that I owned as a kid and I got it signed by him as a nine-year-old. We started off by asking Georges about his thoughts on the current Oilers and what their issues are and how they can improve. He then talked about how great it was playing in Edmonton and how much the pressure and excitement from the fans pushed him and other players to work harder. Beyond hockey, Georges talked about the importance of his charity work and the impact it had on his career. It was an amazing talk and Georges is an amazing person. You won't want to miss this. ** HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED ** Today’s intro and outro are brought to you by The Beach Towels, you can check out stuff of their Instagram and also check them out on Band Camp.
A new week means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast coming straight for your earholes, and this week's podcast gets a little bit heated as Jay returns from his vacation to discover the Oilers have turned into a dumpster fire since he's been gone. With Jay back from his Australian vacation, there was a lot of catching up to do as he reacclimatizes himself to being back home and being back in the mix with the Oilers. When he left, the Oilers were in the midst of a solid run that saw them climbing their way up the Western Conference standings, but then things really went sideways so we hear the Squire describe what it was like to be frustrated by the Oilers while trying to relax on the other side of the planet. On the bright side, Nation HQ will be getting a new Australian game called Finska set up in the yard and it could be used to solve any and every dispute that comes up with the crew. With the vacation recap out of the way, the guys got into a lot of Oilers talk as they try to figure out what the hell is going on with this hockey team. Is there a trade out there that could potentially solve the issues we've run into? Considering this is the fourth year of McDavid's career, the guys dipped their toes in the unthinkable waters of Connor asking for a trade and what that would mean for not only the team but for the franchise. Even more disappointing than the thought of McDavidless Oilers is the idea that no one would probably blame him if he did want out. As you can imagine, this was a tough conversation to have based on the hopes and dreams that came with winning the McDavid lottery. Could the Oilers actually be on the verge of ruining the golden opportunity they were given?
This week The Squire joined us in replacement of Cooom, as he is currently wandering the streets of Toronto trying to get John Tavares to sign his new jersey or something. Recording this podcast is always a fun time because we always have a full house in the Nation HQ bosses office. In the room today was Baggedmilk, The Nation Dan, Evan the Intern, The Squire, Rick from the Pint, Wanye Gretz, and myself all hanging out. We had a ton of things to talk about this week on Oilersnation Radio as the Oilers just beat the Bruins in an overtime thriller. We were a lot more upbeat and positive this episode over last weeks, and you can tell the happy, Oilers spirit was back in our soul. We discuss everything beginning with how quiet Rogers Place was last night, to the Oilers skating through Walterdale bridge, BUYING the Walterdale bridge replica, Yamamoto's first goal, to the Gus vs. Frank pregame picks.
Welcome, citizens, to another brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast. It’s the podcast where there’s an outline about what the guys wanted to talk about and get to absolutely none of it. To start off today’s show, the boys take a trip down memory lane and talk about what life might have been like in the early 1900s before Netflix and Daddy Long Neck. Would J.B. Little have ever expected an Internet company to plant roots in his old house? No! He’d probably say what the hell is the Internet, silly, he lived at Nation HQ in 1903. From there the guys get into what kind of morning TV they used to watch before heading off to school and Instagram accounts posting from prison. Where Wanye finds these things we will never know. From there, the guys actually get to some Oilers talk with a recap of Nation Dan’s European vacation. Was he Chevy Chase like in his shenanigans? You’ll have to listen to find out. One thing we’ll say for sure is that this here website has grown into a worldwide phenomenon and Dan’s mind was blown after meeting Nation Citizens on the other side of the pond. With the Oilers at the front of mind, the guys run through the disastrous game in Sweden and wonder how one loss has caused so many people to panic already. Lastly, the guys recap the Season Opener Brunch Party from Saturday morning and offer thanks to the people that made it all possible. Every time, you guys blow our minds.
