Salaai! Welcome to Lampegat! Every year during Carnaval, Eindhoven changes its name to Lampegat, the hamlet of the lamps. Festivities take place all over the Southern part of the Netherlands, but with differences between cities and regions. In Eindhoven it started as a catholic tradition to kick of the period of Lent, six weeks before Easter. It puts hierarchy in society upside down: everyone can dress up to assume any role, be it the major, fairy queen, a musketeer, rock star, football hero, whatever. To internationals, Carnaval often is a culture shock. The smartest city suddenly becomes “de gekste”, the craziest, the wildest. As an ex-stadsprins, Joep Verheijen had the experience of leading the town into threes days full of cultural events, a parade, but maybe most of all the vibrant nights in the many pubs and out in the street. Parag Gupta, of indian ethnicity but born and raised in the U.S., believed that he got into some kind of New Orleans Mardi Grass when he experienced Carnaval. Geisa Barra Cordeiro knows Carnaval in her home country Brazil, but she now lives in Den Bosch which hosts a very traditional Brabant-style Carnaval. On Radio 4 Brainport, Jean-Paul Linnartz kicks of a cross-cultural Vodcast. Many thanks to Olaf Koenen en Mike Weerts for the support from Studio 040. Recorded January 26, 2024 in the Eindhoven Parktheater. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/podcasts-4-brainport/message

The Oilers won five in a row, they have a huge run of games coming, and that means we've got plenty to talk about on the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio. This week, we're talking about Connor McDavid's 60th goal, the NHLPA survey results, and a whole lot more.To kick off the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio, we got started with a debate about whether or not Stuart Skinner should garner consideration for the Calder Trophy. Seeing as Stu is basically saving Edmonton's season, does it not make sense for Skinner to get some love for the Calder based on how this year would be a total disaster without him? Changing gears, we looked back at Wednesday's win over the Coyotes and specifically Connor McDavid's 60th goal that came in overtime on a beautiful pass by Leon Draisaitl. For all of us, having Connor score on a feed from Leon was the way this goal had to come along, and it was incredible to see how those two keep connecting on milestones all over the place. Sticking with McDavid and Draisaitl, we also ran through the NHLPA's player survey that just came out this week and how those two were all over the list when it comes to the league's best. Changing gears, we then looked at the World Cup of Hockey after Connor McDavid talked about how the players have wanted this to happen for years now, but the NHL just can't seem to pull it together. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ON Radio with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to look at the lighter side of the game. Hosted on Acast. Hello and welcome to a brand new season of the Monday Mile podcast. After a little festive break we are back with a bang to inspire you to join us, whilst we walk and talk. This is Season 6 and today we are in central London with a lady who is making an impact on our airwaves. She's a rockstar Mum to her beautiful daughter, and a Radio DJ who presents ON RADIO 1 Live Lounge as part of "Rickie, Melvin and Charlie". Yes, you've guessed, it's Charlie Hedges! Charlie kicked off 2023 for us with a set on the decks, seeing us well into the New Year and is proof of the pudding that you can be a Mum, and pave the way in the media and balance the two. We chat mood boards and manifesting a dream, how to create and chase that vision for the New Year and beyond, and to never take "no" for an answer. Instead we chat about taking that "no" and turning it into a positive. We dig into Charlie making her way into one of the most popular radio shows in the country, starting out as the tea lady at Kiss Radio as well as juggling a degree and becoming one of the youngest ever breakfast presenters this country has seen. This chat is impactful, inspiring and it's got me fired up, so I hope it does the same for you too. Happy New Year! Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on? Each episode drops on a Monday morning as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week. Sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes, entrepreneurs, doctors, authors and broadcasters ' secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits. Head over to IG to watch the visuals of our episode and what we get up to on our Monday Mile. https://www.instagram.com/aimee_fuller/ Filmed by Jon Moy
The Oilers are back out on the road after a frustrating homestand, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's show, we're talking about the Oilers' losing streak, Stuart Skinner's new contract, line combinations, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's Tuesday podcast, we got started with a conversation about the blue line and specifically how concerned are we with the group of players that we have in the top six. Is this a problem where the guys on the ice have to be better as a whole? Is the group good enough in the first place? From there, we looked at the current losing streak the Oilers are on and how it's been extremely frustrating to see them lose three consecutive games against teams that they should be beating more often than not. We also touched on the Oilers' line combinations that Woodcroft is running with right now and whether it's time to finally split up Connor and Leon after a few consecutive games of lacklustre results. Getting to the positive side of being an Oilers fan, we spent a few minutes talking about Stuart Skinner's new contract and how it was a pretty solid deal for the team considering he is literally carrying the mail in net right now. Despite his early success, it was interesting that the Oilers got this extension done now rather than waiting until the offseason when his price could have gone up. With Skinner now locked up and Jack Campbell clearly not going anyway, are we happy with the goaltending tandem for the next three and a half years? Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ON Radio with another thrilling round of Word Association, Tyler's signature segment that he spends literally seconds working on. Hosted on Acast. The Oilers are back out on the road after a quick pitstop back at home, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's show, we're talking about last night's loss to the Wild, Jack Campbell getting back in net, the PK still sucks, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's Tuesday podcast, we got started with a look at the line combinations and whether or not Jay Woodcroft should adjust his top six based on how quiet everyone was last night in Minnesota. Even though all of us think that Connor and Leon should probably be split up, what happens with the rest of the top six is up for debate. Changing gears, we dove into the analytics debate a little bit and whether or not it makes sense to rely solely on the numbers without matching them up with the eye test. Looking ahead to tonight's contest with the Nashville Predators, we walked through some expectations from the crease outward and what the Oilers need to do to secure two points. Next up, we looked at the news from this morning when Gary Bettman announced that the NHL's salary cap may only rise by $1 million next season, which would be an obvious problem for teams like the Oilers that are pressed right up against the cap. The Oilers are back out on the road after a quick pitstop back at home, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's show, we're talking about last night's comeback win over Florida, the comeback against the Rangers, Evan Bouchard's resurgence, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's Tuesday podcast, we got started with a conversation about what has been the most impressive aspect of the two comeback wins the Oilers rattled off against the Rangers and then the Panthers. Whether it's the depth scoring, the sense of urgency, or the way the boys didn't quit when things looked rough, there are plenty of reasons to be happy about the way the last two wins. From there, we looked at some key performances from players like Evan Bouchard and Dylan Holloway, and how it's been a lot of fun to see them contribute at huge moments in the last two wins. We also looked at how the Oilers will be playing without a bunch of their regulars as the team is battling injuries like crazy right now. Not injured but still unavailable, Klim Kostin won't be with the Oilers tomorrow in Chicago as he awaits a new work visa after riding through on a temporary pass over the last couple of weeks. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ON Radio with a tribute from Tyler to our friend Lowetide after he revealed that his beloved wife Jo-Anne passed away this past week after a battle with cancer. From all of us here at Oilersnation, we offer all of our love to LT and his family. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
The Oilers are back out on the road for a run of games in New York, which means we had plenty to talk about on the brand new Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's show, we're talkin' about last night's disappointing loss to New Jersey, Jack Campbell getting hit in the face, Evan Bouchard, and a whole lot more.To kick off this week's Tuesday podcast, we got started with a conversation about what the Oilers' biggest need is at the 20-game mark of the NHL season. Is it defence? That's what I personally believe, but what does the rest of the squad think? Is it even possible to address those needs this early in the year? Changing gears a little bit, we looked back at last night's loss to the New Jersey Devils and how the loss was incredibly frustrating, but not because the boys didn't compete but rather because their mistakes all wound up in the net. Speaking of goaltending, we then talked about poor Jack Campbell taking a puck to the nose while sitting on the bench and how the dude just cannot seem to buy a break right now. Thankfully, he seems to be okay and looks to be in line with the start tomorrow night on long island, and that led us to talk about what would be considered an acceptable game for the goaltender. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ON Radio with another round of Word Association that had the gang brimming with excitement. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

By March of 1954 Bing Crosby'd been in the public eye for more than two decades. He had numerous hit records, and won an Oscar for best actor in Going My Way in 1944. On Radio, Bing helped usher in primetime transcription with Philco in 1946. Crosby had been on CBS radio since 1949 and sponsored by General Electric since 1952. He was reluctant to star in a regular TV show, fearing overexposure. The 1954 Academy Awards were held on March 25th. That same day, RCA announced the first color television set. It was a twelve-inch screen, priced at one-thousand dollars, or roughly ten grand today. On the Sundays bookending those awards, Frank Sinatra was a guest on Bing's program. Frank would win a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Maggio in From Here to Eternity. On this latter program from March 28th, Frank talks and jokes about his experience. The two are in rare form, especially with a trio of songs. The series ended on May 30th, 1954. With radio audiences in steep decline, Crosby decided against a weekly radio show with expensive guest stars and a twenty-two piece orchestra. Bing's son Gary took over the timeslot in June for thirteen weeks. In November 1954, Bing returned to the airwaves with a weeknight fifteen-minute program. He spoke about all manner of different subjects and usually included three songs. Broadcasting Magazine estimated the production cost to be twenty-seven hundred dollars per episode.
Radio DJ Emma Wilson believes that the policeman Wayne Couzens who kidnapped, raped and murdered Sarah Everard exposed himself to her in an alleyway some 13 years ago. Emma reported it to the police at the time – no action was taken, but she has decided to speak out now because when she did report it she was not happy with the response. One of the key findings of our equality poll to mark our 75th anniversary has been the extent to which women don't feel equal when it comes to issues of sexual abuse and exploitation. Almost 70% of the women we asked said it was a concern and the issue is currently front and centre of the news agenda following the murders of Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa to name just two women. Emma Barnett talks to the writer Joan Smith and the former Victims Commissioner the Conservative Peer Baroness Newlove who is unimpressed by Boris Johnson's unwillingness to recognise misogyny as a hate crime and is trying to change the law on the issue. Probably best known to most for her television role as lawyer Lucca Quinn in The Good Wife and then the follow-up series The Good Fight, Cush Jumbo is currently playing Hamlet at the Young Vic in London. Delayed for a year by the pandemic, the play sold out months before opening. As the first woman of colour to play the part in a major production on a British stage she joins a list that goes back to 1741 of UK female actors playing the Prince of Denmark. Cush joins Emma. On Radio 4's Day of the Scientist, we looks at women's trust in science. The latest Public Attitudes to Science survey found that women are less likely to feel connected to science in their everyday lives; less likely to actively engage with science; and were less trusting of scientists and media reporting of scientific issues. What's going on to put women's faith in science on such shaky ground? Emma speaks to Megan Halpern, assistant professor in the history, philosophy and sociology of science at Michigan State University, and Dr Emily Dawson from University College London, who researches how people learn about and engage with science – and why so many women are being put off. Happy Friday, everybody! We're back with a playoff preview episode of Oilersnation Radio to get you set for the weekend and the first round of the playoffs that's set to go on Wednesday. On this week's show, we looked at the upcoming matchup against the Jets, offered a few playoff predictions, looked at our own keys to victory, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's episode, we got started with a discussion about which player on the Oilers' roster that we think could turn into the 2021 edition of Fernando Pisani? Amazingly, none of us had the same answer as we all saw different reasons to pick four different players to fill that role. From there, we looked at what the Oilers need to do to beat the Jets in their opening series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Needless to say, having the boys run through Winnipeg to the tone of a 7-2 season series win has given many of us confidence, but what details do the Oilers need to execute to keep the good times rolling? We also discussed whether or not we think Dave Tippett will go back to Mike Smith in their back-to-back games in games three and four of this series. From there, we gave our series predictions for all four divisions and took a few guesses as for which series winners were all but locked in. We also announced that we will be starting to do two episodes per week of ON Radio throughout the playoffs, starting on Tuesday, May 18th.

Internationals enjoy making music together, already for many years. In COVID times that may not be easy but nonetheless we see an active organisation that brings together internationals: Music with Strangers. With The Sound of Eindhoven, "This is Eindhoven" challenges musicians and producers to create an anthem or soundtrack as an ode to the city. On Radio 4 Brainport, we contacted internationals who you live here and have a strong connection with the city and who joined the competition. Enrique Cruz created an Eindhoven Anthem, that is a tribute to the city that appreciates in so many aspects. Alex Furnica and Mohsen Mehrafrouz have chosen "The City of Light" as a title, to reflect the multi-cultural society, the many nationalities. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/podcasts-4-brainport/message
On any given day, you can hear SARAH SPAIN talking sports on ESPN. On TV. On Radio. On Podcasts. Online. (And hell, maybe now in the owner's box.) But she's also found ways to use her platforms to explore her passions beyond sports - which is kinda sorta what this show is all about. So we break down that balancing act, her favorite interviews beyond sports, and some other fun stuff in her final appearance with us. Then, Brad and his daughter Charley talk the art and science of catching a real, live leprechaun.
Nesse episódio de ON Radio vou falar sobre o filme Mamma Mia 2! Expondo minhas opiniões e observações do filme e sua trilha sonora.
Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Radio Muse, c'est le programme de découvertes musicales partout en Europe ! Cette semaine, c'est Radio Student à Ljubljana qui nous propose sa sélection. In edition number twelve - Špela and Dušan from Radio Študent in Ljubljana, Slovenia will introduce the listeners to Nina Dragičević, rouge-ah, Rush To Relax, ŠOP Records and Lifecutter. Nina Dragičević, the first interviewee of the show, turns on its head the saying jack of all trades, master of none. She peculiarly mastered the questioning of sound and words, meaning and possibillities through her work as a composer, sound artist and writer. Welcome, citizens, to a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio! This week, we had a lot to discuss as the Oilers find themselves in first place in the Pacific Division as we head into December, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' injury and what that means for the roster, and what the hell is going on with the NHL referees. To start off episode 64 of the podcast, we kicked things off with a look back at the former first overall pick from 2012, Nail Yakupov, and what we remember about our former friend now that he's been playing in Russia for the past couple of years. With the trip down memory lane out of the way, we turned back to the current Edmonton Oilers and what they're going to do if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' hand injury is more severe than we initially anticipated. Would an extended stint on the shelf for RNH add more pressure on Ken Holland to find another centreman? In the meantime, is there someone from the Condors that should be called up and given a chance in his absence? From there we looked back at Wednesday's game against Colorado and the ridiculous sequence that saw the Oilers losing both Alex Chiasson and Adam Larsson in a matter of seconds. We were all in agreement that the hit on Chiasson was a clean one, but the conversation got a lot more heated when discussing the strange decisions made by Steve Kozari and the officiating team. Lastly, we finished up this week's show with a look at the Edmonton Oilers sitting atop of the Pacific Division as we head into December and whether or not that means this team is truly for real. As always, it was another jam-packed episode of ON Radio and a wonderful massage for your ear feelings as we head into a huge weekend for the boys.

Can you believe it's already been a whole week since we recorded the last episode of Oilersnation Radio? You can't, can you? No, I didn't think so. Fortunately, the wait is over and we've got a fresh podcast that's ready for your earholes just in time for the weekend. To start off this week's podcast, we briefly walked through the new Nation podcast studio that we've been working on at HQ for the past few months. While there are certainly bugs that need to be worked out, we thought it would be fun to give the studio its first run on today's episode of ON Radio so please give us your feedback so that we can work on improving what gets turned out. Back to business, we started our Oilers coverage with a look at Connor McDavid and the possibility that he may not play any pre-season games. Does it matter? Obviously, you'd want the guy getting some reps in before the season kicks off, but if that doesn't happen, is it really a huge deal? Next up, we looked at Kyle Brodziak's incredible NHL career after news broke that he would be sitting out this season as a result of some nagging injuries. With over 900 NHL games under his belt, there is no doubt that Kyle Brodziak had a very impressive career and we wanted to give him a proper send-off. From there we took another look at the Oilers' defence and tried to decide which jobs are truly up for grabs. Earlier today, Oscar Klefbom said that he expects to play alongside Joel Persson to start training camp and we wondered how that duo will look with Persson coming over for his first year in North America. Lastly, we answered a Cooom hypothetical that he sent in from Northern Ireland that saw us building a new front office staff for the Oilers that is made up of only post-glory days players. We're upgrading the power at Nation HQ this week so there was no juice to record this week's podcast. Instead, we welcome you to a 'best of' edition of Oilersnation Radio, featuring our interviews with Georges Laraque and Rob Schremp and another look at the fight that broke out over Bob Nicholson. I have to say, doing ON Radio every week is always a great time because we never know what's going to happen on an episode-to-episode basis. Sometimes we get a chance to talk to former Oilers like Georges Laraque and Rob Schremp and end up having an amazing conversation about everything from the team to life in general. Both guys were incredibly honest and forthright in their conversations with us and it's always incredible to hear about their journies. From life on the road to battles with depression, we covered all kinds of ground with both Georges and Rob and we're still incredibly grateful that they were willing to share their time with us. Not to be outdone, we also wanted to have another look at the time that Jay and Rick yelled at each other following Bob Nicholson's comments that Tobias Rieder was a major cause of the Oilers missing the playoffs this past season. I absolutely love when a fight like this breaks out and I really do enjoy just sitting back and watching the madness unfold. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Chris Evans is a master. A rule breaker who annoys every radio programme director listening – but the sense of occasion every show brings is simply perfect. On Radio 2, with the maturity that decades on air brings, he has been at his best. The creativity and rebellion lives on, polished with the pain of experience. In this final show on 24th December 2018, he uses every trick in the radio box. Wives , children and tears. And he does it authentically. As he prepares for the biggest gamble of his career, these are his final BBC moments
After studying piano privately for 12 years, Rick gained a scholarship to the Royal College of Music where he studied piano, clarinet and orchestration. In March 2012 Prince Charles presented him with his Fellowship of the RCM. He was also made a Professor at the London College of Music. As a much sought after session musician in the late sixties and early seventies , he played on more than 2000 records including such hits as Cat Steven's Morning Has Broken, David Bowie's Space Oddity and Life on Mars and worked with a real eclectic mixture of other notable artistes such as Donovan, Cilla Black, Marc Bolan, Black Sabbath, Lou Reed, Mary Hopkin, Dana, Al Stewart , Elton John and John Williams. In March 1970 he joined Strawbs and his first album with them , “Just a Collection of Antiques and Curios” , paved the way for “Folk-Rock” and reviews from their concert at The Queen Elizabeth Hall on July 11th of that year , did much to take Rick's career to a new level. He joined YES in August of 1971 and has been in and out of that band on quite a few occasions ! (One journalist likened the relationship to that of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor , in as much as they can't live with each other for long periods of time , but in the same breath , can't live without each other ! Rick told the journalist he didn't disagree as long as it was accepted that he was “Richard Burton”) !
