Welcome to episode 38 of The Suitcase and The Scribe with Mike McKenna and Scott Burnside. The Western Conference finalists are set after the Colorado Avalanche took care of business against the Edmonton Oilers. The injuries became a little too much for the Oilers to handle, with two of their stars, Darnell Nurse and Leon Draisaitl, caring significant damage. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning have clawed their way back into their series against the New York Rangers in the east and are now tied up at two. The bottom six has shown up in the last couple of games for the Bolts, proving that depth matters again. Also, on the show, Chris Wideman from the Montreal Canadiens joined Mike and Scott to talk about his new two year extension. They also dove into his time in Russia, having Marty St Louis as the head coach and how he once interned on Wall Street. The interview also contains a brief cameo from Wideman's dog. Mike and Scott dove into the coaching news to close out the episode. Of course, this week's big news was the firing of Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy. Cassidy had a winning record in every season in Boston and guided them to the Stanley Cup finals in 2019 when they lost in game seven to the St Louis Blues. The question now lingers, what is going to happen next in Beantown?

On today's episode of Locked on Oilers, we talk about that crazy Game 4 that saw the Edmonton Oilers get swept on home ice, in Overtime. Where did it all go wrong for the Oilers? How injured was Darnell Nurse? Now what? Plus, Dylan Holloway played less than 4-minutes in Game 4, did that benefit the team at all? All that and more on today's episode of Locked on Oilers! The Colorado Avalanche push the Edmonton Oilers to the brink of elimination in a wacky game three. Connor McDavid started off the game hot by scoring on the first shot of the game and the game did not slow down after that. The Avalanche were able to tie it up before the first period ended thanks to some good fortune on a bounce off Darnell Nurse. The game just kept getting weirder with crazy bounces and multiple plays that only happen once in a blue moon. The Avalanche are now looking forward to game four as they try to close out the series and move on to the Stanley Cup finals. It's Friday afternoon and that means we're hitting you with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we looked back at the first two games against Colorado, what needs to change ahead of Game 3, and a whole lot more.Kicking off this week's podcast, we got started with a look at the first two games in this series and specifically what adjustments the Oilers need to make to pull themselves back in this series. Whether it's finding ways to defend the Avalanche's rush attempts in their own zone or manufacturing chances at the other end, there is plenty of room for improvement and it will be very interesting to see what changes are made ahead of the first game back at Rogers Place. From there we walked through some possible line changes that could happen, specifically if Woodcroft would be interested in going back to the 11-7 formation that worked so well throughout the regular season. Would bringing in Kris Russell or Philip Broberg be enough to shelter Darnell Nurse a little bit? Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold Performers. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Elliotte and Cam discuss Darnell Nurse's injury, the Avs speed and if the Oilers still have a chance. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Friday afternoon and that means we're hitting you with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we talked about the Oilers dropping Game 5, the Oilers pushing the series to a seventh game, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we got started with a look back at the disaster that was Game 1 and what the boys need to do to get back on track in tonight's rematch. From switching up the lines to tightening up defensively, there is plenty of room for improvement for a team that did not look very good at all. If the Oilers plan on stealing a game in Calgary, there is no shortage of items on the to-do list that the boys need to check off. From there, we welcomed Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli to talk about the series and the news he broke today that Darnell Nurse could be battling a core-muscle issue that may require surgery to correct in the offseason. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday edition of the podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performer.
TSN Oilers reporter Ryan Rishaug joins Julia and Al's Brother to talk about the reason for the late start in game 2, if it was the right move for the Oilers to run it back with Mike Smith, and how Darnell Nurse and Leon Draisaitl may not be at 100 per cent and how that's impacting the team.
A new episode of The DFO Rundown is here to take you into the weekend! Frank and Jason are both out in Calgary to cover the Battle of Alberta and they kicked off the podcast by talking about the wildly entertaining series opener that we saw on Wednesday. They outlined what both teams need to do in order to clean up their games. The Oilers are very banged up right now with key players like Leon Draisaitl and Darnell Nurse clearly labouring. That could derail things for the Oilers. The Flames scored nine goals in game one but as the guys discussed, that performance won't sit well with Darryl Sutter. They also hit on the Panthers being down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after two games in Florida. They also welcomed in Tyler Yaremchuk for a new edition of 'Fill in the Blank'!Their guest today was Craig MacTavish. As a former Oilers player, Head Coach, and GM, he has plenty of great stories when it comes to the Battle of Alberta. He also gave us some insight into what allowed the Flames to look so good and what the Oilers will need to do in order to bounce back in game two. On today's episode, we talk about the Oilers' defensive issues, just how hurt is Darnell Nurse and who can and will step up for the Oilers in his aid? Plus, Oilers head coach confirmed Mike Smith will get the start in Game 2 of the Battle of Alberta, why is this the right call? And, what do the Oilers need to do in Games 2 and 3 to have success in the rest of the series? All that and more on today's episode of Locked on Oilers! On today's show, we talked about the Oilers dropping Game 5, the Oilers pushing the series to a seventh game, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we got started with a discussion about the biggest differences between games five and six, and whether the Oilers can carry some of those lessons into tomorrow's deciding game. Whether it was getting a much better start or firing pucks from everywhere, the Oilers offered up a much better effort and were rewarded with a massive win. From there, we looked ahead at Game 7 and specifically at the line combinations. Will Woodcroft go with the 11-7 approach again or will they go back to a 12-6 configuration now that Darnell Nurse is eligible to return after serving a one-game suspension? Lastly, we wrapped up the bonus episode of Oilersnation Radio with a look at the bright sides and the face palmers in another round of Hot and Cold performers.

NHL on TNT's Rick Tocchet joins the show and shared tons of playoff insight, including thoughts on officiating, and constant scrums. The completion of the NHL Draft lottery means offseason decisions will be coming in hot. In #AskRayandDregsAnything the guys answer questions on the vault that is New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello, the likelihood the New Jersey Devils will keep the 2nd overall pick, and the strength of this year's draft. Jeff and Elliotte start off looking at the Hart Trophy finalists, before moving onto first round action including if Leafs can finally close out a first round series and which Lightning player they are most interested in watching tonight (00:08). Next, they discuss the Oilers having to play without Darnell Nurse, how Craig Berube has managed the series with the Wild and how the Hurricanes are taking a new-school/old-school approach to their game (06:29). To finish up, Jeff and Elliotte react to the Flames' managing to push Dallas to the brink, the maturity shown in the win and the hit by Jacob Trouba on Sidney Crosby (17:37). Darnell Nurse has been handed a one game suspension after headbutting Phillip Danault in game 5. With the LA Kings leading 3-2 in the series this may be a costly mistake by the Oilers number one defenseman. Carolina Hurricanes and LA Kings are the teams Steele and Flip are looking at for DFS selections, leaving the Wild vs Blues matchup for Big Time Bets. The Edmonton Oilers have their backs up against the wall in their series against the Los Angeles Kings, and I figured now would be the perfect time to record a fresh podcast to break it all down. I don't think there's any doubt that the way the Oilers lost in Game 5 at home had to be one of the worst games we've seen from them lately and they couldn't have picked a worse time to make that happen. I mean, I was at the 4-0 game in Los Angeles and it hurt to witness, but last night took it to another level. Last night, the Oilers had the opportunity to put themselves back up in the series and show the Kings that what happened a few days ago was a one-off, but instead they dropped a fresh turd on the ice in the early going that had them chasing for most of the game. But even when they did pull themselves back into a tie game, Jay Woodcroft got in his own head with some of his lineup decisions and Edmonton dropped a pivot game in the very early moments of OT. Instead of going back to LA with a chance to clinch, the Oilers will be fighting for their playoff lives to try and force a Game 7. Add in the fact that Darnell Nurse got himself suspended with a ridiculous headbutt and all of a sudden Oilers fans are thinking, "here we go again."
Logan Gordon and Sandra Prusina discuss the Oilers' falling to the Kings in Game 5. They weigh in on Darnell Nurse's suspension and how it could impact their squad. They present Headlines and weigh in on the biggest sports stories of the day!The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Media Inc. or any affiliate.
John Shannon discusses what the Kings are doing strategically that's allowing them to skate and compete with the Oilers from an offensive perspective, the impact of a Game 6 without Darnell Nurse, Duncan Keith's tough Game 5 and much more. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Welcome to another episode of The Oil Stream with Dustin Nielson and Tom Gazzola, presented by Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen! Nielson and Gazzola discuss yet another horrible start by the Oilers in this series against the Kings which they are now trailing 3-2. Why can't get they going sooner? Is Jay Woodcroft rattled? Darnell Nurse suspension? Any chance they go with Koskinen? The Ken Morrison RE/MAX Question of the Day wraps up the episode!
Jeff and Elliotte start off discussing Darnell Nurse's headbutt on Phillip Danault, the precedent for headbutt suspensions and how the Kings have managed to push the Oilers to the brink of elimination (00:07). Next, the guys look at the Leafs' big comeback win over the Lightning, how the “Core Four” lead the way and the goaltending battle in the series (11:23). To finish up, Jeff and Elliotte chat about the Calder finalists, Minnesota being one game away from elimination, Jake Oettinger's great performance in these playoffs and what to expect in the Rangers-Penguins game tonight (16:11). The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.
Real Kyper and Bourne are joined by Dave Jackson, former NHL official and current ESPN rules analyst (00:04)! They fellas ask Dave his thoughts on the onslaught of penalties so far in the Leafs-Lightning series, if there's been a focus this postseason to "call the standard", how playoff pressure impacts officials, and some officiating flashpoints around the league. To wrap up today, Nick, Justin and Producer Sammy chat about the Leafs' powerplay effort in last night's win, the potential aftermath of Darnell Nurse's headbutt on Phillip Danault, and debate if the Oilers' should consider starting Mikko Koskinen over Mike Smith (14:23). Is there anything better than a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never to celebrate locking in a playoff position? Absolutely not. The Edmonton Oilers are rolling and I am fired up about it! Getting this week's podcast started, I was so excited to talk about Clinchmas and how the Oilers locked down not only their playoff spot for the postseason with a big win over the Avalanche but also home-ice advantage as well with last night's victory over the Penguins. Seeing as the team looked like they were in very real danger of missing the playoffs only a few months ago, having them finish off as strongly as they did was such a blessing and ultimately a lot of fun to watch. It wasn't all good news, though, as Darnell Nurse suffered a lower-body injury that will keep him out of the remaining regular season games. While expected to return for the playoffs, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this is a big loss for the Oilers and one they need to manage carefully. Speaking of the playoffs, we now know the Oilers will be squaring off against the Kings in the first round, and it will be fascinating to watch how this series plays out with two teams that have played each other very tough this season. Lastly, I wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of voicemails and answered your questions on everything from the Oilers to grocery deals to wine recommendations and everything in between.
