The microphones are live at a noisy, buzzing Boston Pizza Westgate! On this massive Monday edition of The Oil Stream, Dustin Nielson and YouTube Trev are officially on location, and an absolute offseason bomb dropped right before the cameras started rolling. Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers management team have officially locked up shutdown defenseman Connor Murphy to a brand-new five-year contract extension carrying a $4.1 million AAV. The boys waste absolutely zero time diving into the heavy fallout of this massive signature.   On Today's Show: The Connor Murphy Verdict: The trade deadline acquisition is staying in northern Alberta for the long haul! But at 33 years old, is a 5-year term running through his age-38 season an absolute ticking time bomb? The boys break down the $4.1M cap hit, argue over the high-risk vs. high-reward, and slap their official letter grades on the contract. They also dive into the Jason Dickinson deal with the 30-year-old signing on the dotted line yesterday! The Darnell Nurse Domino Effect: Let's read between the lines. If the Oilers are spending $4.1M a year on a veteran defensive specialist like Murphy, what does this mean for the rest of the blue line? The boys break down the cap sheet and ask the million-dollar question: Does this signature mean Stan Bowman is officially pushing all his chips into trading away Darnell Nurse's heavy contract this summer? It's Friday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your eardrums with an hour of off-season Oilers talk. On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Darnell Nurse trade rumours, where he might end up, the incoming Mike Babcock press conference, line combinations, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Mike Babcock becoming the Oilers' next head coach, and whether there's anything he can do to win over the Oilers fans who are not at all happy about the decision. Given the Oilers are making this decision not caring about the fanbase's opinion, there's little doubt that the noise surrounding this decision will be incredibly loud. That led the boys to wonder what kinds of questions the media will be asking about the situation and what to expect going forward. Shifting gears, the guys continued on with another round of Darnell Nurse trade talk. The boys had David Pagnotta on Oilersnation Everyday on Friday afternoon, and he pitched a couple of ideas on what a Nurse deal might look like. The options seem to be that the Oilers either hold some salary for a better return, or accept a lesser trade to clear out every dollar. Is there a scenario where Edmonton can actually make a hockey trade? Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, Ask the Idiots questions, and Hot and Cold Performers to wrap up the week. The guys also discussed the Stanley Cup Final, the Hurricanes winning it all, and how the entire office is bought in on the World Cup. While the Nation HQ staff may not know what's going on very often, that hasn't stopped the squad from getting excited anyway.

TSN hockey analyst Craig Button kicked off today's show to break down a massive weekend in the hockey world, starting with the Carolina Hurricanes capturing the 2026 Stanley Cup. Button weighed in on just how dominant this Hurricanes squad was throughout the postseason, the critical role of their goaltending, the undeniable impact of head coach Rod Brind'Amour, and what the future holds for the newly crowned championship club. From there, the conversation shifted to a busy offseason ahead for the Edmonton Oilers. With the finals officially in the books, Button discussed whether management will finally get their chance to speak with Bruce Cassidy, while also breaking down what the realistic trade market looks like for defenseman Darnell Nurse. To wrap up the segment, Button shared his thoughts on the future of John Tortorella behind the bench for the Vegas Golden Knights after coming up just short in the Finals.   It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day.   CFL on TSN's Marshall Ferguson joined the boys in the middle of hour two to recap CFL week 2. Touched on the start of the season for CFL quarterbacks, Chad Kelly's first game in a few years and BC's struggling defense.   We capped off hour two with MMMMMM That's Good presented by The Italian Centre Shop. Who had the most impressive run, the Hurricanes or Knicks… the boys discussed.

(00:10:39) How does Wheeler look back at Michael Misa vs. Anton Frondell last year? On today's podcast, the fellas discussed Darnell Nurse's trade request, where he might end up, the Mike Babcock situation, line combinations, and more.We kicked off the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about whether or not Darnell Nurse carries more risk than some fans are acknowledging. Given the minutes he plays and his constant availability, it's worth having a discussion about whether or not moving on from the player will create a bigger hole than some people think. While there's no debate that the contract has become an issue, there is still a strong hockey player there that the team will likely be without when the next season rolls around.Shifting gears, the guys continued with the Darnell Nurse conversation with a look at what trading him might even look like. His contract is obviously a massive part of the story when it comes to moving him, but that shouldn't suggest that Nurse carries zero value on the trade market. But what kind of trade should Oilers fans even expect? From there, the boys spoke about the never-ending coaching drama that's raging on after news broke earlier in the week that the team is interested in Mike Babcock. Finally, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of betting talk, Ask the Idiots questions, and Hot and Colder Performers to wrap up the week. The guys also discussed the Stanley Cup Final and how the Carolina Hurricanes have a chance to close things out in Game 6 on Sunday night. They also discussed the NBA Finals and how the Knicks' comeback wins have been wild to watch. Speaking of wild to watch, seeing Knicks fans beating up Spurs fans just for wearing team merch ranks right up there for being nuts.

Grab a beverage and lock in, because the boys are breaking down a massive roster development from every single angle. On Today's Show: The Bombshell: Darnell Nurse Wants Out! It is official. Reports from Elliotte Friedman and Mark Spector confirm that veteran defenseman and alternate captain Darnell Nurse has formally requested a trade out of Edmonton. After 12 seasons and nearly 800 games in the blue and orange, #25 is ready for a fresh start. The boys dive straight into the deep end of the chaos: Where will he go? With early leaks connecting him to teams like the Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins, what does his 3-to-5 team trade list actually look like? What will the return be? How does Stan Bowman navigate trading a massive $9.25M cap hit with four years remaining and a full No-Movement Clause? Will the Oilers be forced to retain salary or give up a major sweetener? Is this good for the Oilers? Does clearing this cap space unlock the financial flexibility management desperately needs to rebuild the blue line, or does losing a core leadership piece create a massive hole? Is it good for Darnell? Does escaping the high-pressure Edmonton media fishbowl allow Nurse to revitalize his game elsewhere? The Ongoing Coaching Carousel: Even with the Nurse news taking over, the head coaching vacancy isn't going anywhere. Reid and Hernan look at where things stand with the ongoing Mike Babcock saga, the public pushback, and whether this sudden roster shakeup changes the front office's blueprint for their next bench boss.

While there's little doubt that Nurse's contract became a problem, the reality is that he was also a very good Oiler for a very long time. Despite the contract being a sticking point, the reality is that Nurse is a guy who gave his all to the city and the franchise.Shifting gears, the boys discussed the Mike Babcock rumours that have kicked up over the last week, and how just hearing his name was enough to trigger the entire fanbase. While there are a handful of Oilers fans who legitimately think this could work, the vast majority of them hate the idea to their core. That led the boys to discuss which guys would be better options for the Oilers, and whether they would even be interested in getting out of their own way. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with a breakdown of the Knicks' Game 4 win, New Yorkers embracing the moment, and recapped Tyler's trip down to Vegas, what it was like being at the Cup Final when you don't care.
