Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life is ready to help you start your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Trent Frederic's latest injury, Rexall Place memories, Will Smith's return, and much more. The guys started the Monday episode by discussing Trent Frederic's ankle injury again against the L.A. Kings on Saturday afternoon. Despite playing only 7:10 in TOI, Frederic re-injured his ankle and will now miss the rest of the regular season, with the goal of returning to the playoffs. Considering Frederic got re-injured in his first game as an Oiler, the fellas discussed the comparison to Mike Green playing on two games after the trade to Edmonton and refusing to return for the bubble playoffs.Sunday marked the ninth anniversary of Rexall Place closing, so the guys spent the next few minutes talking about the old barn and comparing the vibes to how they are now at Rogers Place.Next, there was a discussion about Alex Ovechkin breaking Wayne Gretzky's record and speculation about whether he will finish out the last season on his contract or go to the KHL. Either way, it's an incredible feat for Ovi and it will be interesting to what his next move looks like. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a little bit of baseball talk after the Jays signed Vladdy to a monster deal worth $500 million over the next 14 years. They also discussed Will Smith's return to the stage as the Fresh Prince tries to rebuild his image after the infamous Chris Rock slap.

First we Wanye, Jay, Liam and BM talk about the final game for the Arizona Coyotes before the ship off to Utah, breaking down their ownership, the broadcast last night and past teams in the NHL.They soon drifted away from the Oilers to talk about the cloud seeding and floods in Dubai and the Memorial Cup in the WHL which was soon derailed by Liam's admission to buying movie theatre popcorn, just to take it home. Without even seeing a movie! This lead to talk of our beloved Rexall Place and enjoying their last sips of legendary suds and sharing opinions on the outrageous prices of Playoff tickets this season.Would you ever consider going to an Oilers game alone? Maybe it's not such a bad idea. They then finish off discussing our future plans for the Playoffs where you can find us out on the road and who we would like to play in the first round. Then Wanye and Liam went on a rant about the recent movies they've seen.Exciting times as we wait for the final game of the regular season night against the Avalanche!

To kick off the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys got started with a conversation about non-alcoholic beers as Jay cracked open a fresh one to kick off the show. For the parent in the room, being able to enjoy a non-alcoholic beer and feeling like you're still part of the action, but for everyone else, it's tough to make sense of what's going on here. Changing gears, Wanye told a few stories from going back to Rexall Place last week after being given a media tour of the old barn. As you'll hear, touring through Rexall Place was an extremely nostalgic experience after spending so many wild nights in that building, and Wanye was extremely grateful to experience the old rink one last time. Getting to the current version of the Oilers, the guys looked at some of the latest rumours that are surrounding the team, including their reported interest in Mattias Ekholm. Lastly, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a look at tonight's matchup versus the Bruins and how this is a major test that the Oilers have to be ready for, especially after giving away two points to the Blue Jackets on Saturday. It's Friday afternoon and that can only mean that we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off your week and make sense of all things Edmonton Oilers. On this week's show, we talked about the boys being back in town, celebrated Rod Phillips' 80th birthday, hypothetical scenarios, and a whole lot more. To kick off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at our favourite Edmonton Oilers moments when we were actually in attendance at either Rexall Place or Rogers Place or somewhere else altogether. Whether it was a playoff game or a pre-season matchup or our first NHL game we ever went to, we spent the first chunk of the podcast talking about some of our favourite moments we've ever been able to see in person and it was interesting to hear everyone's perspectives on what a 'best moment' meant to them. From there, we jumped back to the present and looked at many of the Oilers coming back to town to prepare for a new season and whether that gets us even more excited to go even though nothing is really happening right now. We also spent a few minutes celebrating Rod Phillip's 80th birthday by offering up our favourite Rod moments from the booth as he was undoubtedly one of the best to ever do it. Next up, we looked at the Calgary Flames' offseason and whether it will be enough to get them back into the playoffs after what was a very disappointing season in the all-Canadian Division.      Hosted on Acast. Speaking of strange times, Gagner spoke a little bit about how he's been living while on lockdown, including some talk about staying in shape and building backyard rinks. If you didn't know, Gagner's dad, former NHLer Dave Gagner, started a company called Custom Ice Rinks that builds custom ice skating rinks all over the place and that inspired Sam to build one of his own. Changing gears, the conversation was steered back to life in Edmonton and the potential for our city to become a Hub City for the NHL provided that they're able to safely resume play, and Gagner had plenty of thoughts on why it would work. As an unquestionable fan favourite, Gagner graciously faced a barrage of questions from the boys about his time with the Oilers, including a look at the Kid Line from his rookie season, his remarkable eight-point night, playing at Rexall Place, and a whole lot more. This week, the guys looked at their favourite memories from Rexall Place, finding good news in tough times, and denying Eric Clapton of a new vest.  To start today's podcast, the guys got going with a look at how everyone is living during these strange quarantine days. Chalmers confessed that being stuck in the house giving him an excuse to lay on the couch and do nothing which could become a problem, while Wanye wonders if he'll ever be able to get back to being productive even when the Coronavirus pandemic is behind us. As it turns out, laying around the house can be addicting, though, that laziness somehow spawned a story from Chalmers' childhood where his dad's band opened for Eric Clapton and how his old man turned the blues legend down when Clapton asked if he could have his vest. It's weird, but it's true. Changing gears entirely, the boys looked back at some of their favourite travel stories from a simpler time when travel was actually permitted, and it was a lot of fun to hear some of the crazy experiences everyone has lived through. With the world's climate being anything but positive right now, the boys tried their best to look back at some of their favourite old stories as a means of getting away from the endless barrage of bad news we're being pummeled with so far in 2020.

They look at the positives and negatives of the Canucks' 2015/16 season and look towards the draft lottery. Paul explains a couple draft lottery possibilities, and the gang tries to figure out what the Edmonton Oilers can do with that first overall draft pick, if they win the lottery, their fifth since 2010. They look back at the never ending ceremony to honour the last game at Rexall Place and the pro's and mostly con's of the exhausting event. A lot of of Oilers' talk this week as this HAS to be the year they finally go in the right direction... It's gotta be. Right? From his days as a Sports MBA student in 2012, Mike Warkentin (SMBA '13) worked hard to set himself apart and get involved in the industry in any way possible.  This led to an internship in Edmonton with Northlands, and the opportunity to work his way up to Venue Manager of Rexall Place in just a few short years.  With the Oilers moving to downtown Edmonton, Northlands has a plan for its massive property, Vision 2020, and Mike's been an integral part of this new era for the organization.

You may not know this — and you may not even agree with it — but Edmonton is a very musical place. We produce a ton of musicians who go on to do great things. Hell, some of them even choose to stay here in town and ply their trade (I'm thinking Bill Bourne of Edmonton Folk Music Festival fame). With such a rich and diverse cross-section of musical talent in Edmonton, Scott and I decided to chat this week with one of Edmonton's up-and-comers. So we brought the talented, the beautiful, the holy-crap-listen-her-amazing-voice Erica Viegas. And you know what Erica told us? She told us that she wanted the use the Unknown Studio to release a new track out into the world. All exclusive-like. So listen to the show for something we can guarantee you've never heard before. Quickly, and stolen from her website, this is what Erica's all about: Raised in Sherwood Park, Alberta in a musical family, Erica has always had a passion for music. Since begging her parents to let her take voice lessons at age 11, she grabbed at every opportunity to be on stage, whether it was singing in a school play or performing the national anthem at an assembly. For more than 10 years, she has been singing at festivals and talent competitions all over Western Canada, including the Alberta Tattoo at Rexall Place, Calgary Stampede, Big Valley Jamboree, and Canadian Search for Miss Universe. In 2003 and 2004, Erica represented the City of Edmonton as Klondike Katie during the Edmonton Klondike Days (now Capital Ex), performing over 50 times during the 10-day festival. Erica's also a U of A Business School graduate with a day job at her alma mater. And she's looking to maybe tour this summer, across Canada or even the US. And I am going to make it my personal mission to try and get Erica up on the stage at the Folk Fest this summer, at the very least as someone who can perform in between main stage sets. She's that good. So good, I think a lot of people need to hear her. So download the episode today! ===================================================== EDMONTON JOURNAL STILL SPONSORS THE UNKNOWN STUDIO ===================================================== It's true!
