In this week's episode of Better Lait Than Never, I jumped in with another solo show to break down what has been a very solid week for the Edmonton Oilers as the team seems to be responding well to the new coaching staff. What we don't know, however, is how long this rebound will last and whether we should be expecting these improvements on a nightly basis? To kick things off, I jumped in with a look at the vibes around the Oilers over the past week and how it seems like basically everyone that follows this team is feeling better about things now that Jay Woodcroft is here. Can a new coach really turn things around in less than a week? Can he maintain the levels of positivity that we've seen from him? From there I looked at the first three games of the Woodcroft era and offered my takes on what seems to be going well, what still needs to be improved, and where I think we go from here as the schedule remains tough. Even though the Oilers are cruising right now, we all know that sports is a cruel business and the only way to keep the vibes good is to keep winning, and that will be a challenge for Jay Woodcroft and his staff as we get into crunch time. Lastly, I wrapped up today's podcast with another round of voicemails that you've all been leaving over the last week or so, and once again, you all came through in a big way.

To kick things off, the guys got the podcast started with a look at Tyler's vacation and how he had quite the adventure in his 10 days away from the office. From going to the wrong hotel in Vegas to making friends at the tables to playing top golf by himself, Yaremchuk had the best time down in the states even though he had to mix some actual work in from time to time that included speaking to Connor McDavid and Gary Bettman. Speaking of vacations, Jay offered more details about the Nation Vacation to Nashville and how it's going to be another weekend to remember for everyone that makes their way down. From there, the guys got to some Oilers talk as the team had a very busy end to their week as Ken Holland finally made the call to fire Dave Tippett and replace him with Jay Woodcroft. Lastly, the guys looked at the Oilers as the trade deadline approaches and offered up some ideas on what the team needs to get done.
Pete and Nick highlight the best pickups entering the 17th week of the fantasy season. The guys discuss the best goalie options, including Matt Murray, Jake Oettinger and Petr Mrazek and how seriously to take Jeff Skinner and the Sabres offense in fantasy and betting after his four-goal game. Other topics discussed include the Oilers' coaching change from Dave Tippett to Jay Woodcroft, the playoff chances of the Stars vs. Jets in the Central Division, what to expect once Jack Eichel returns with Mark Stone injured and other players to consider adding like Andrew Mangiapane, Yegor Sharangovich, Mason Marchment and Anton Lundell, Connor Brown, Frederick Gaudreau and more.
In this week's episode, Brutes & James discuss the firing of Dave Tippett in Edmonton, and whether new head coach Jay Woodcroft can make a difference before the end of the season! The guys also reflect on the career of Tuukka Rask with his recent retirement, the Canadiens naming Marty St. Louis as head coach, the newest Brad Marchand suspension, and much more! It's Friday afternoon and that means we're hitting you with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you finish off what's left of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today's show, we looked at Dave Tippett being let go, what to expect from Jay Woodcroft, the rising pressure in Oil Country, and a whole lot more. Kicking off this week's podcast, we jumped in with a look at the coaching change that was announced yesterday after Ken Holland decided to make a change behind the bench, bringing in Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson to replace Dave Tippett and Jim Playfair. After taking everyone's first thoughts on the move, we took our best guesses as to which players will benefit the most from the switch and whether there are any guys that may be negatively affected. From there, we looked at the injuries to Zack Kassian and Duncan Keith and how having them out of the lineup could actually give the Oilers a little bit of cap relief as we draw nearer to the NHL trade deadline. Lastly, we wrapped up this week's podcast with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold performers to recap what was a very busy week here in Edmonton.

On this episode of The Cross-Check NHL Show, Andrew Berkshire and Mary Clarke continue to weather their busy schedules amidst a hectic week in hockey! The Montreal Canadiens axed Dominique Ducharme and have brought in Martin St. Louis as their new head coach, hopefully bringing about a new era of change for a stagnant team. The Beijing Olympics continue apace with the women's tournament in its playoff rounds after Canada bested the United States 4-2 in the round robin. While the Canadian women are on cruise control, the United States women are having a bit more trouble, only barely just getting past Czechia in the quarterfinals after a stellar performance by their goaltender Klara Peslarova. Also, the Edmonton Oilers fired head coach Dave Tippett as the team skids out of playoff contention. Tippett, however, is seemingly the fall guy for general manger Ken Holland, whose mismanagement of the Oilers assets continues to harm Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. In today's episode of Better Lait Than Never, I jumped in with a solo show to talk about Dave Tippett getting fired, the reaction to the decision, and what it means for the Oilers going forward. Kicking things off, I got the podcast started with a look at what ended up being a very busy Thursday for the Edmonton Oilers as news broke early that they had fired head coach Dave Tippett along with assistant coach Jim Playfair. In their place, Ken Holland is bringing up both Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson from the Bakersfield Condors after they've laid down a solid track record of success at the AHL level. While this is a great day for many Oilers fans, it also shows how poorly things have gone over the last little while as Ken Holland was forced to make a move he's never done once in his entire career as a manager, and I was happy to hear him own his share of those issues. Getting away from the coaching change, I also touched on both Zack Kassian and Duncan Keith hitting the LTIR after last night's game, which is certainly unfortunate in that you never want to see guys get injured but it also creates a pool of cap space that the team didn't have beforehand. Does that space mean there's an opportunity to make a move? We shall see. Lastly, I wrapped up today's podcast with another round of voicemails that you've all been leaving over the last week or so, and once again, you all came through in a big way.
Ben and Stephen open with Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli to discuss why the Oilers finally decided to make a coaching change with Dave Tippett, and shares his takeaways from Martin St Louis' media availability today (00:14). Later on, fresh off the MLB owners meeting, we speak with the New York Post's Ken Davidoff to explain why the mood has turned pessimistic of late (20:54). To wrap up, the guys look towards Beijing to share an update on the Olympics and why Stephen feels Jack Crawford is the story of the games so far (33:55). The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

Last season, Montreal went to the Cup final, Edmonton went 9 and 0 against the Senators. But out of those 3 teams, it's D.J. Smith is the coach who's still standing. Why did the Habs hire the completely inexperienced Martin St. Louis? The Oilers fired Dave Tippett, replacing him with their AHL coach Jay Woodcroft. Despite Brady Tkachuk's recent goal drought, he has the 4th most career goals by a Sens player under age 23. And the Sens get ready for a busy, tough weekend.
A very busy Thursday has landed on your calendars and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through the rest of your week. Today, the guys were talking about the Oilers coaching change, NationGear behind the scenes, the Olympics, and a whole lot more. To kick off this episode of Real Life, the guys got started with the major news of the day as the Oilers announced this morning that they had fired Dave Tippett after the team lost a second consecutive game in a devastating fashion. Despite the news being surprising to so many of us, there's no doubt that many Oilers fans were very excited about the change and the possibilities that come with a fresh voice behind the bench. Before the change was made, however, the decision to play Mike Smith in back-to-back situations was one that ultimately proved costly after the veteran netminder was unable to lock things down in his eighth start of the year. Was that decision the one that ultimately cost the coach his job? From there, we looked at what Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson will bring to the table and whether having a new voice can help turn this thing around. From there, the guys got into some Olympics talk as Chalmers revealed that he has a system for watching the games around the time difference. After the boys had a good laugh about the Chalmers system, they wrapped up the podcast with a discussion about how much fun the Olympics have been and how it's a great time to watch sports that we may not have any exposure to otherwise.

Then the guys discuss the Canadiens' firing of Dominique Ducharme, Martin St. Louis being named interim head coach, Jim Montgomery's history with Kent Hughes, and whether Vincent Lecavalier could be joining the Canadiens front office (14:53). Yesterday, I told you that I would be launching a new podcast called Better Lait Than Never and today I recorded my first ever episode! In today's episode, I talked about what's going on with the Oilers, the segment of fans that want Dave Tippett fired, and welcomed DailyFaceoff.com's Frank Seravalli to give an insider perspective on what the hell is going on around here. To kick things off, I jumped in with a look at my new show and what I expect to do with it every week. As I mentioned yesterday, this show will be all about the Oilers and your thoughts about what's going on with the team. From there, I welcomed Frank Seravalli to the show to get his take on what's going on here in Edmonton and whether or not he thinks we're getting any closer to a coaching change. I also asked Frank about what he thinks are the next steps for the Oilers as they look to make changes even if they the earth-shattering variety. From there, I checked in with your voicemails and what you think is going on with the Oilers in what was a very fun finish to my first ever solo podcast. Seeing as this was the first episode of my brand new podcast, I'd love nothing more than to have your feedback about how it went. I want to know what you thought of the segments, the sound, the ideas I had, and any other feedback you choose to offer.
