Frank and Jason kicked off today's episode of The DFO Rundown by talking about the first Trade Targets list of the summer that dropped earlier this week. They started at the top of the list with Sabres forward JJ Peterka, who is a pending RFA. How could the Sabres move on from Peterka and improve at the same time? The guys discussed that and a hypothetical deal involving Marco Rossi, who is also in Frank's top five. From there, they talked about a few of the defensemen on the list, starting with Rasmus Andersson and his future with the Flames and then they had a big discussion about what the Pittsburgh Penguins could do with Erik Karlsson. If the Penguins were willing to retain a significant portion of his salary, would there be a market for the former 100-point defenseman? Gregor found a spot that he thinks make a lot of sense. They also touched on Jamie Oleksiak of the Seattle Kraken, who is entering the final year of his deal.Tyler then joined for Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about the Rangers situation with Chris Kreider, the Kraken selling off assets, Demko's future in Vancouver, and Sam Bennett's case to be a $10m player. The guys then turned their attention to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Oilers got a big win in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final but it came at a brutal cost as they lost Zach Hyman for the remainder of the postseason. They talked about how the Oilers will adjust their lineup and how much losing Hyman impacts their Stanley Cup chances.1:20 - JJ Peterka & The Sabres5:00 - Rossi for Peterka?11:25 - Rasmus Andersson & The Flames15:20 - Karlsson's future in Pittsburgh28:10 - Buy or Sell (Kreider, the Kraken, & Demko)38:30 - Oilers lose HymanWant to hear more from Frank, Jason and the entire DFO team? Tyler Kennedy doesn't think the Penguins put them in the best spots, but Kapanen didn't give his best effort. Granlund has 35 goals since being traded, 13 more than Erik Karlsson. Karlsson has three additional points. Utah will be called the Mammoth.
Hour 1 with Joe Starkey and Tyler Kennedy: Could Aaron Rodgers sign soon? It's possible. TK thinks it was a good move for the Penguins to move on from Mike Sullivan and wasn't surprised. The Penguins need a top six forward, a fourth line tough guy, and figure out what to do with Erik Karlsson, Ryan Graves, Tristan Jarry, and others. TK wants to be the next Penguins coach!
Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to give his thoughts on the Steelers, the NFL draft, the end of the Penguins' season and the Pirates' West Coast road trip. On the football side, is Derrick Harmon the most uncomplicated pick for GM Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin? What about Kenneth Grant and Walter Nolen along the defensive line? And where do QBs Sheduer Sanders and Jaxson Dart fit into that conversation? Later, the duo reacts to Penguins GM Kyle Dubas appearing to signal in post-season comments Tuesday that he's looking more toward 2026-27 than next season in terms of competing meaningfully in the Eastern Conference. Is he being too passive with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang on the roster? How aggressively should he shop in NHL free agency this summer? Or move bad contracts owed to Tristan Jarry, Erik Karlsson and Ryan Graves? And where does coach Mike Sullivan figure into all of it? Then finally, in a segment airing on the Post-Gazette's Pirates YouTube channel, the guys react to Andrew McCutchen's angst about his playing time. Does he deserve better from manager Derek Shelton and GM Ben Cherington? How much longer does McCutchen plan to play? And is Shelton's lineup turnover an overall problem as well? Our duo tackles those questions, then discusses the team's mediocre record when Paul Skenes is on the mound and pressure on owner Bob Nutting after loud “sell the team” chants continued during the last homestand.

Dubas said he hasn't had any post-season meetings with Mike Sullivan and will meet with him Tuesday to sort through everything. There are rumors Sullivan could coach the New York Rangers. Dubas said Sullivan has been vocal this is where he wants to be. Dubas said he had conversations with Tristan Jarry and Ned and is speaking as if both will be back next season.
Hour 4 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Kyle Dubas said he hasn't had any post-season meetings with Mike Sullivan and will meet with him Tuesday to sort through everything. The Penguins likely won't be viewed as a contender if Tristan Jarry is their goalie. Joe wants the Penguins to move on from Sullivan.
Penguins reporter Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined the show. Penguins had locker cleanout day today and the big takeaway was Mike Sullivan talking about his commitment to coaching the Penguins next year. Erik Karlsson knows his name will be in trade rumors. The big question is if Kyle Dubas wants to commit to this group or wait another season.
Hour 3 with Jason Mackey: Jason thinks Bob Nutting is the biggest heel for some fans. George Pickens, Tristan Jarry, Ryan Graves, and Erik Karlsson are heels for some people. Some of the babyfaces include Paul Skenes, Andrew McCutchen, Sidney Crosby, Cam Heyward, and T.J. Watt. The Bechtold Breakdown - Jaxson Dart will now NOT attend the draft. Penn State football's outlook if they grab a top receiver in the portal.
Hour 4 with Jason Mackey: Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk joined the show. Will Oneil Cruz take the next step? Penguins reporter Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined the show. Penguins had locker cleanout day today and the big takeaway was Mike Sullivan talking about his commitment to coaching the Penguins next year. Erik Karlsson knows his name will be in trade rumors.

Sidney Crosby has been named the NHL's most complete player again. TK doesn't think Erik Karlsson is going anywhere and the Penguins need to do something to get him playing like a team player and good player again. TK is conflicted on Tristan Jarry and thinks it would be best if Jarry and the Penguins ultimately part ways.
Hour 1 with Jason Mackey and Tyler Kennedy: There truly is no such thing as a meaningless game as players always have something to play for and end on a positive note. Tyler Kennedy thinks Sid is as good of a person as he is as a player. TK doesn't think Erik Karlsson is going anywhere and the Penguins need to do something to get him playing like a team player and good player again.

Hour 1 with Joe Starkey: It's NHL trade deadline day. What will Kyle Dubas do to improve the Penguins? Joe gives Dubas a failing grade running the franchise. Joe isn't impressed by the addition of center Tommy Novak. What is keeping Erik Karlsson in Pittsburgh? It doesn't make sense why he wants to stay here and hasn't been approached to waive his no-trade.
Joe isn't impressed by the addition of center Tommy Novak. Barry Trotz had some harsh words for Novak and is not a difference maker. What is keeping Erik Karlsson in Pittsburgh? We would try to trade him Friday.
Sean likes the Penguins getting a second-round pick for Anthony Beauvillier after Beauvillier was traded for a 5th last year. Sean would trade Erik Karlsson and it's currently a MAJOR sellers market. He would deal Rickard Rakell for a big return and the Penguins are in a good spot to attain assets.
Hour 3 with Joe Starkey: Sean Gentille likes the Penguins getting a second-round pick for Anthony Beauvillier after Beauvillier was traded for a 5th last year. Sean would trade Erik Karlsson and it's currently a MAJOR sellers market. Why did the Steelers pass on Christian Kirk after being interested in trading for him at the deadline last season? The Seahawks reportedly want a first and third rounder for DK Metcalf. Penguins trade Luke Schenn to the Jets for a second and fourth-round pick.
The trade for Erik Karlsson could have been a bit frustrating for Kris Letang. Do you want to see Alex Ovechkin score the NHL's all-time leading goal in Pittsburgh during the final game of the regular season? TK doesn't want Ovechkin to do it against the Penguins, especially on an empty net. He's concerned Ovechkin won't be around to grow the game in North America when he retires.
Hour 1 with Bob Pompeani, Joe Starkey, and Tyler Kennedy: The Penguins traded Michael Bunting to the Nashville for defenseman Luke Schenn and forward Tommy Novak. TK got into a huge fight with Schenn and described what it was like throwing punches on the ice with a guy as tough as Schenn. Will the Penguins trade Erik Karlsson? TK wants Wayne Gretzky's goal record to stand for a long time and doesn't want to see Alex Ovechkin break the record in Pittsburgh.

WRs are all over the place in the NFL with multiple guys being cut or requesting a trade today. What should the Steelers be willing to do to acquire DK Metcalf? What about other names like Christian Kirk? The Steelers seem to have their options. Maxx Crosby has signed a big deal in Vegas. Does that mean a new deal is coming for TJ Watt? What should be the price the Steelers pay this time around? Could it be around $36M/year? The guys looked at some of the highest-paid players in the league. Would the price for DK Metcalf in a trade be as much as we are thinking? Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK is betting on ‘no' for Rickard Rakell to get traded. He doesn't think you can strip the team down and said you have to keep some guys happy. Tyler described the feeling of going to the rink on a bad team around trade deadline time. TK told stories about the 2009 deadline when the Penguins acquired Chris Kunitz and Bill Guerin to the eventual Stanley Cup championship team. He said that team was such a great mix of everything a team needs. TK said the presence of leadership from the '09 deadline put that team over the top. Who else could be traded from the Penguins by the deadline on Friday? TK thinks Erik Karlsson on the move is 50/50.

The Penguins are bringing Tristan Jarry back to the NHL and sending Joel Blomqvist back to the AHL Pens. Joe thinks this is the best thing for the Penguins because they're already struggling and Jarry needs to regain some sort of value. Erik Karlsson had a horrible turnover that led to a Toronto turnover with 0.1 seconds left. Can the Penguins trade Karlsson?

Joe thinks this is the best thing for the Penguins because they're already struggling and Jarry needs to regain some sort of value. Hi everybody, and welcome to Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings finally have a home. In this explosive episode of Red Wings Rant, we kick things off by celebrating Patrick Kane's sensational overtime winner over the Anaheim Ducks—a moment of brilliance that lit up the ice. But while Kane's heroics spark celebration, we can't ignore the bitter déjà vu: last year, despite an easy remaining schedule, our team fell short of the playoffs, thanks in no small part to Yzerman's failure to upgrade at the deadline. Fast forward to now, and we face the most grueling remaining schedule in recent memory. With rumors swirling about blockbuster moves involving Elias Pettersson, Mikko Rantanen, Seth Jones, and Erik Karlsson, the question is burning hotter than ever: can the Red Wings finally make the splash that this season demands, or are we doomed to repeat history? Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey joins host Adam Bittner to analyze discontent in the Steelers fan base over coach Mike Tomlin, owner Art Rooney II and the franchise's recent drought of NFL playoff wins. Do any moves GM Omar Khan could make this offseason matter as long as Tomlin is the coach and Rooney is the owner? Or will the franchise be doomed until big changes are made? And if there's hope, what moves could Khan make in NFL free agency, the NFL draft or the trade market to improve the mood of the fan base? Is it a splash at quarterback with options including Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers? A move for a big-time receiver opposite George Pickens? A new anchor for the defensive line? Or a proven cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr.? Our duo ponders those questions, then pivots to Penguins. What's the most disappointing piece of their performance coming out of the break for the 4 Nations Face-off? Is it the goaltending with Joel Blomqvist and Alex Nedeljkovic? Struggling defensemen like Erik Karlsson? Or simply the effort level surrounding stars like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang? Then in the third segment, airing on the new PG Pirates YouTube channel, Adam and Jason toss around some Pirates topics. Would it make sense to sign free agent first baseman Anthony Rizzo, given the team's need at that position following the Spencer Horwitz injury? Or is Rizzo and other free agent options like Jose Abreu or Yuli Gurriel too far past their prime? What does Jason think of the Andrew Heaney signing? And what does it mean for the depth of the rotation? Could the Pirates get creative to try to limit innings for Paul Skenes, Jared Jones and Mitch Keller?

Host Adam Bittner and Post-Gazette sports columnist Jason Mackey react to Kenny Pickett's comments about his time with the Steelers at the Super Bowl. Did GM Omar Khan, coach Mike Tomlin make a mistake in moving on from their former first-round pick at QB after just two years? Now that he'll be one snap away from playing in the biggest game of the season for the Eagles against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs? Or were Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both clear enough upgrades that the move still makes sense in hindsight, even despite the late-season swoon and NFL playoffs loss to the Baltimore Ravens? Was Pickett throwing subtle shade at the Steelers locker room for being too prone to distractions? And what chances do Saquon Barkley and the Eagles have in the big game if Pickett has to replace Jalen Hurts at any point? Our duo tackles those questions, then switches focus to the Penguins, Pitt basketball and the Pirates. Did GM Kyle Dubas get enough back in the trade this week that sent Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor to the Vancouver Canucks? Could Rickard Rakell be the next player moved? Is there any hope of unloading the contracts of Erik Karlsson, Ryan Graves and Tristan Jarry with an eye toward rebuilding? And what does it all mean for the core of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kirs Letang? What will the Panters' latest swoon mean for their March Madness chances? And on the Pirates front, did the signing of Tommy Pham salvage the Pirates' MLB offseason, in which Adam Frazier, Andrew McCutchen and Spencer Horwitz were the only other noteworthy adds? Or is this still a disastrous effort from GM Ben Cherington in building around his core of Paul Skenes, Jared Jones, Bryan Reynolds and others? Is there any hope of another significant move between now and the start of the regular season? And what should we think about the fan survey the team commissioned, which has been widely panned on social media? Jay doesn't think this is all on Mike Sullivan and the players need to step up. Mario Lemiuex has been very hands off with the Penguins and his relationship with Fenway Sports Group isn't very good. Erik Karlsson called Sharks rookie Macklin Celebrini a great kid and said maybe he'll see Celebrini soon, "who knows."

On his daily First 10 podcast, Post-Gazette sports columnist lists what he believes are the worst contracts in Pittsburgh sports right now. Does Steelers coach Mike Tomlin belong at the top of the list, given his high-end pay but limited results, especially in the NFL playoffs? Where do Penguins players Tristan Jarry, Ryan Graves and Erik Karlsson rank, especially with Jarry now making millions to play in the minor leagues? Does Pirates 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes belong in the conversation amid his struggles offensively since signing his lucrative extension a few years back? And what about starter Mitch Keller, whose numbers are decent but not incredible despite a hefty salary? Jason tackles those questions, then weighs in on NFL playoffs matchups this weekend including Texans-Chiefs, Commanders-Lions, Bills-Ravens and Rams-Eagles.
