I recently sat down with Phil Mendoza, a legend in the archery world and the visionary behind No Limits Archery and the Mile High Hunt Expo. Together, we took an introspective look at the transformation from rifle to bow, exploring how commitment to craft and community shapes the essence of a hunter. Phil's own evolution mirrors the metamorphosis of hunting itself—a tradition steeped in the beauty of challenge and the bonds of family. His stories of balancing a bustling bow shop with family duties will hit home for anyone striving to marry passion with daily life.Promo code: HS2024https://milehighhuntexpo.com/InstagramPhil'sNo Limits Archerywww.nolimitsarchery.comMile High Hunt & Fish ExpoSupport the show

Aron welcomes long time friend Phil Mendoza to the podcast.  Phil is not only the owner of No Limits Archery in Colorado, but has also been spearheading the new hunting and fishing Tradeshow that will be happening in Colorado, called the Mile High Hunt Expo.  Phil and Aron talk details and what visitors can expect with this new show and why they felt like it was time for Colorado to get a show like this. Great chat between these two and can't wait for the new show this year.   Be sure to come down April 5-7th, see us at the Kifaru booth and check out the Mile High Hunt Expo at the Gaylord Resort and Convention Center in Aurora, Colorado.  With over 200 vendor booths, numerous seminars and workshops by industry professionals, and even a film festival, this is one show you won't want to miss. You know who’s a badass? Caitlin Turner, that’s who. In today’s episode I have the privilege of meeting up with her at the No Limits Archery shop in Denver after spending the weekend catching the Alpha Bowhunting Challenge.   I’ve never met someone who’s life, and story, sound so much like my own, but I truly felt connected with Caitlin and know so many others will be able to relate to her and her journey. From her path through some dark times, to overcoming and finding her way, she's had a little bit of it all.    Together we recap the ABC event in Eagle, and what goes into the Alpha challenge, as well as online the course and what you can expect if you come to an event to participate, or spectate. I highly suggest both!    Caitlins passion for learning, becoming the best version of herself, and rolling through life beside other strong people in the bowhunting community was a breath of fresh air, and something I definitely want to be a part of.    Listen in, and be sure to check out the Alpha Bowhunting Challenge.    Connect with Caitlin on Instagram and on Facebook.

Today on Gritty, my guest is my good friend Phil Mendoza. I’ve been attending a few of his beginner bowhunter and bow tuning classes at his Denver archery shop--No Limits Archery. If you live in the area and you’re new to archery or just want to learn how to work on your own bow or build your own arrows, checkout Phil’s classes--they’re great. On today’s podcast, Phil and I discuss hunting mistakes--primarily, mistakes made in the final moments of a shot opportunity. Cody Eardley wrote a great article in the January 2018, Bugle Magazine (put out by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation--which you should become a member of if you aren’t already) and the article is titled, Situation Ethics. The article is a good one and it got Phil and I talking about ethics, shot selection and closing the deal in the final moments of a hunt. I enjoy talking to Phil because I always learn. Phil is an extremely talented hunter and archer. He’s a Train To Hunt champion. And he’s owner and mastermind of the Alpha Bowhunting Challenge. And as discussed on an earlier podcast, Phil wrote a mini book titled, “Targeting Buck Fever.” Train to Hunt and The Alpha Bowhunting Challenge are competitive events designed to help hunters hone the ability to make good decisions and good shots at the proverbial “moment of truth” while under extreme pressure. So join Phil and I for a frank and open discussion on mistakes we’ve made, things we’ve learned and our Situation Ethics. Big thanks to Cody Eardley and Bugle Magazine for providing relevant, educative, thought provoking articles like the one we discuss today.
