Send us a textWhen patience meets preparation, magic happens in the wilderness. After twenty painstaking years of waiting in New Brunswick's moose lottery system, Jesse Ells' father finally received his coveted tag—and what followed was nothing short of extraordinary. Jesse takes us deep into the Mountains of northern New Brunswick, where three generations of his family embarked on this long-awaited hunt. With meticulous planning that began months in advance—salt blocks strategically placed in spring, trail cameras monitoring activity—they were ready when opening day arrived. Within just twenty minutes of legal shooting time, their patience was rewarded with a magnificent bull moose that dressed out at exactly 900 pounds. But the story doesn't end there. What makes this tale remarkable is what happened next: despite having filled their personal tag, Jesse and his father immediately transitioned to guiding others. By the end of the brief five-day season, their camp had achieved perfection—seven tags, seven successful hunts. Jesse shares the triumphs, the challenges of extracting enormous animals from difficult terrain, and the lessons learned when clients don't heed their guides' expertise. The most memorable moment comes as Jesse recounts "the one that got away"—standing just 15 yards from the largest bull he's ever seen, watching helplessly as it slipped away before a shot could be taken. His vivid storytelling puts you right beside him in the field, feeling both the exhilaration of success and the sting of missed opportunity that keeps hunters coming back year after year.Whether you're planning your own moose hunt or simply enjoy authentic wilderness adventures, Jesse's experiences offer valuable insights and pure entertainment. Listen now to experience the highs and lows of chasing giants in the Canadian wilderness—and don't forget to subscribe and leave a review if you enjoy the episode!Check us out on Facebook and instagram Hunts On Outfitting, and also our YouTube page Hunts On Outfitting Podcast. Every hunt has a story, a memory and special moments that are forever in our minds. Taxidermy often helps us memorialize the animal and pay respect to our kill, while photos can also help us cherish and remember those significant moments in the woods. This week our guest is Dylan Carlson from Trophy Edits. Dylan and his team work very hard to help hunters, outdoors men and women, outfitters and others enhance and forever commemorate their experiences in the outdoors. Dylan shares with us why it can be so important to have professionals edit your photos and make them "wall-worthy", and it is honestly extraordinary how good these guys are at their jobs! Dylan talks about what makes a photo absolutely explode off the canvas, current and modern technology advancements and some of the best gear hunters and outdoors men and women can use to set their photos up for success, and more! We can't let Dylan go without talking some hunting too, which leads to one of the craziest elk hunting stories we've had on the podcast!Fall Obsession Podcast is sponsored by:Hoot Camo Company (https://hootcamo.com/)Bear River Archery (https://www.bearriverarchery.com/)Trophy Edits (https://trophyedits.com/?ref=fallobsession)The Outdoor Call Radio App (https://www.theoutdoorcallradio.com/)

This episode finds its roots in a text message in which a listener asks Steve if he's going to do a podcast on Field Trials and Water races. Steve's immediate response is, “I'm going to now.”Nate Hickson is a brand shiny new tree dog enthusiast, but not at all new to training dogs. In fact dog training is his vocation, it's just that his is not the type of training we normally associate with trail and tree dogs.Nate had lots of questions for the old timer and Steve doesn't hold back. The origin of field trails as the precourser to Nite Hunts is a good place to begin the conversations and things sort of accelerate from there. Citing the UKC's centenial publication The First 100 Years as a reference source, Steve, who authoring many of the articles in the book, takes Nate, and the listener on a fact-filled journey back to the 1930s in this interesting look at the genesis of hound games and ends by asking the question, will the Field Trails and Water Races be the game of the future. It's an interesting question framed in a lot of interesting accounts and rememberances. Enjoy. We would like to thank those who support this podcast. After a week to digest the move, Ryan Gilbert and Joe DeMarini discuss the Philadelphia Flyers - Calgary Flames trade that saw Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee sent up North for Andrei Kuzmenko, Jakob Pelletier, and draft picks. They analyze Danny Briere's post-trade comments and look at what moves could be coming next for the Orange and Black. Who might they go "big game hunting" for at the deadline or the coming offseasons? The boys then get into the current team's play on the ice, a fantastic stretch by Sam Ersson, and what they want to see the rest of the way.

Bear hunter Holt Collier, who was the guide for the famous “teddy bear” hunt that earned President Theodore Roosevelt his nickname, can lay claim to taking a sitting president bear hunting. That's a distinction similar to that of our guest but not quite. Our guest Mark Israel of Smithfield, Georgia, took the 39th President of the United States coon hunting and not just once, but several times following the family friend's term in office.Steve met Israel during his PKC days and Mark related to our host, several stories of his hunts with the peanut farmer from Plains, Georgia turned governor and ultimately president of the United States, Jimmy Carter. Carter's famous farm in Plains sits a mere six miles from the Israel family's homestead.Carter served the State of Georgia as its governor from 1971 to 1975 and the nation as president, from 1977 to 1981. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his humanitarian work. This exclusive Gone To The Dogs podcast presents an interesting conversation involving hounds, coon hunting, secret service agents and an inside look at a man that once was the most powerful man in the world.
