In a presidential election year when democracy itself is under threat, local political megadonor Kent Thiry is proposing a massive reform to Colorado's elections. But Initiative 310 will only make it onto our November ballots if the campaign can collect 125,000 signatures by the first week of August. So producer Paul Karolyi sat down with Thiry and one of his top allies — former Denver Elections director Amber McReynolds — to talk about how this reform would work, why both Democrats and Republicans are so mad at them, and whether or not Thiry is just clearing the path for his own long-anticipated run for governor. Oh, and you better believe Paul asked what's up with Thiry's reported obsession with The Three Musketeers. Initiative 310 would implement “open primaries” and ranked choice voting in elections for federal and state offices in Colorado. We recently published an explainer for ranked choice voting, which you can read here, and you can learn more about open primaries from our friends at Colorado Public Radio. Paul mentioned the 2017 episode of Last Week Tonight where John Oliver explored the dialysis industry and poked fun at Thiry for dressing up like The Three Musketeers. Taco Bell is known for bringing innovative, craveable Mexican-inspired food to the masses. What might not be known is how much goes on behind the scenes to come up with our food. The brand is on a journey to create a menu that fits a wide variety of lifestyles and features simple but high-quality ingredients that leave our fans wanting more. On this episode of Recipe for Restless Creativity, Mark is joined by Marissa Thiry, the Senior Associate Manager of Global Nutrition & Sustainability at Taco Bell, who is responsible for coming up with some of your favorite menu items. Marissa and Mark will pull the curtain back on Taco Bell's kitchen, and the important work our Registered Dietitians are doing to bring more choices to our fans. Taco Bell's vegan and vegetarian ingredients are certified by the American Vegetarian Association. Taco Bell defines “vegetarian” as lacto-ovo, allowing consumption of dairy and eggs but not animal byproducts. Taco Bell defines “vegan” as containing no animal ingredients. It's important to note, however, that in some restaurants we use the same frying oil to prepare menu items that may or may not contain animal ingredients. Vegan, vegetarian, and animal ingredients are handled in common and cross-contact may occur, which may not be acceptable to certain types of vegetarian or vegan diets. Neither Taco Bell, our employees, our franchisees or the AVA assume any responsibility for such cross-contact. For allergen and additional nutritional information, visit www.tacobell.com. We prepare and serve products containing egg, milk, soy, wheat or other allergens. Our products are prepared on shared equipment and in the same kitchen area and we cannot guarantee that cross contact with allergens will not occur.

A decades-long MBA-fueled run, in high-tech publishing, creating, and managing many brands in the SF Bay Area and New York ended after 9/11, and a transformative week-long stay at Rancho La Puerta in 2002. There she stopped long enough to discover the importance of mindful practice in making choices for her life. Creating easily identified tasks to ensure desired changes and outcomes started with annual retreats with her family and evolved into an 8-step process for and with friends. The effectiveness of the program became clear with zoom sessions during the pandemic. This success spurred her to then launch Club Change, where participants support each another in making the necessary choices to enhance their bodies, minds, spirits, and communities. She guides members with kindness, breath, vision, and even some gentle movement when chanting, sitting, journaling, or speaking. When Jill is not leading Club Change classes and events, she guides guests at Rancho La Puerta and teaches chant, swimming, hiking, and intention setting and practicing.
Kent Thiry is one of the most admired and accomplished leaders in the country. For many years he was CEO and Board Chair of Davita - and now he is a philanthropist, a friend and a trusted advisor to high potential CEOs, politicians, environmental activists, and rising stars. Thiry also works closely with top private equity firms including KKR and Partners Group. During this conversation, Thiry is completely vulnerable and comfortable in his own skin - sharing with us crucible experiences - that both tested and shaped his leadership mettle. For example, Thiry shares with us his recent horrifying experience with the U.S. Government which accused him of conspiracy - violating the Sherman Act - charges which he was completely and quickly exonerated. Importantly, Thiry explains what he learned from this agonizing experience, and imparts wisdom for any aspiring leader who will themselves inevitably confront terrifying challenges - and who will need to dig deep, develop resilience, and lean into their core values. This is what leadership in today's unpredictable world requires - and there is simply no better mentor or sounding board than today's guest. www.imperfectleaders.com

Unfortunately, these women waste years trying to figure out how codependency works or rehashing their past in an office week after week trying to pick apart their childhoods. What is more important in your life than your health and wellness?Jill Thiry obtained her MBA from the University of San Francisco and spent decades in high-tech publishing. 9/11 and a transformative week-long stay at Rancho La Puerta in 2002 changed everything. Her work has evolved into an 8-step process that allows you to create easily identified tasks in a way that ensures desired change. Club Change is a place where participants support each another in making the necessary choices to enhance their bodies, minds, spirits, and communities. Highlights: 1. Life is precious – each moment, each breath and we have the opportunity to choose what we are bringing into our lives 2. Be conscious of your choices – Just like it's OK to say YES to new things, it's OK to say NO, too! 3. Ask: What is more important than my health and wellness?4. Self-care is not selfish! The more people who practice self-care the more beautiful our world will be. 5. Self-care is a time saver (I know, it sounds counterintuitive to “add” something to your already busy schedule BUT try it – you will get more done).6. Language is important – not “should” but “I get to” and not “busy” but “full” and not “could” but “will” not “goal” but “gift.”7. Set an alarm at night that signals you to UNPLUG8. Start by picking ONE thing you can change that will contribute to your wholeness (exercise starts at about the 14-minute mark)9. 8 Steps: Show up for yourself, Think about it, Write it Done, Envision, Choose, Practice, Track, Share10. To create your practice fill in this sentence: I will [practice here] for a minimum of [minutes here] for [number here] times this week.11. Keywords: Kind and achievable (don't use gray area words – like “more” or “healthier” – be CLEAR on what you are choosing).12. Ask yourself why you make the choices you do.13. When you are whole and centered you are STRONGER in ALL aspects of life: school, family/friends, career, etc. There is nowhere to go but here – and it's perfect it as it is!Connect with Jillhttps://www.facebook.com/ClubChangeNowhttp://jillthiry.comGet a 10% discount by following these steps:1. Jill Thiry. Teacher, Leader, Coach. Chief Energizing Officer and Founder of Club Change. Jill started many of these practices years ago and is now delighted to have them all “packaged” here for easy reference, participation and membership! After receiving her BA at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jill followed her teaching and fitness passion as a recreation director at the local YWCA. She led aerobic dance classes before its massive popularity, attended yoga classes before its renaissance, and started a travel group for singles! She then pursued travel: two years teaching skiing and kayaking in Europe and then trekking for months through southeast Asia before her return to the United States. That initiated years of exploration of different styles and philosophies of spiritual practice. Upon her return to the US via San Francisco she earned her MBA from University of San Francisco and fortunately landed in the publishing industry. Years of successful growth ensued, managing and developing multiple international magazine brands in print, online and events. Then 9/11 hit, the economy was stalled, and her marriage was headed in the wrong direction. Jill was ready to explore her old passions with an open mind and heart. She began saying “yes” to new things, and “no” to some things. She started singing with a local threshold choir, did a teacher-training in yoga which included chanting, created a local hiking group, and started working on her own independently. Her projects varied from developing new revenue ideas to community building projects in fitness, HR, education, research, consumer publishing, and healthcare. At this critical time in 2002 Jill also began her annual visits to Rancho La Puerta, LLC, a place that helped nourish her courage and confidence in exploring new yes's and new no's in her life. In 2013, Jill moved to Tecate, Mexico to work at “the Ranch” full time. She works in guest services and fitness teaching chant, swimming, hiking pole use, created her “Set Your Ranch Intention” class, and modified an existing class for “How to Live Your Ranch Experience” at home. These “book end” classes, as she refers to the arrival and departure at the ranch, are the direct result of a lifetime of exploring the Ranch Mantra of “Siempre Mejor." We can “always better” do, act, learn, be. She has done annual goal setting with her siblings for over 20 years now, and still does. Her upcoming book “Club Change” will help groups all over the country create a safe place for share the change journey with friends or family. She leads clubs, groups, and sessions around identifying and then doing whatever it is you aspire to do, in a kind, achievable, loving way! This is a time when change is ever present around us. She and you, together, can to choose to move through change with an open heart and open mind. Join her Club in some way soon! Chanting will enhance your breath, your meditations, and your heart; Intention Setting will change your heart, your mind and your actions; Club Change will put these intentions and affirmations into practice in your daily life, your daily moments.
