When three fur trappers in Oregon disappeared from their rural outpost in 1924, their family members sounded the alarm about a bizarre scene left in the snow. Authorities launched an investigation that was months behind a killer and found themselves hunting a career criminal who may have pulled off the greatest caper of his life.View source material and photos for this episode at: parkpredators.com/the-trappers Park Predators is an audiochuck production. Colleen and Chrystal bring you the story of a minor league team in Utah that played just eight seasons, but won four Pioneer League titles and set a professional baseball record that still stands -- 29 consecutive wins in 1987, on their way to a three-peat. Part-owned by Bill Murray, before the actor co-founded the St. Paul Saints, the Salt Lake City Trappers had one of the great lightning-in-a-bottle runs in baseball history, all without an affiliation to a major league team after having began their existence in Calgary, where they had been a farm team for the Cardinals and Expos before Alberta got Triple-A baseball (now just as gone as the Trappers, alas). Leadership visionary Chris Kolenda shares key lessons for living a life of significance as he has transitioned from some of the world's most intense military battlefields to helping business leaders maximize their long term impact. It begins with respecting learning from history, then understanding the three kinds of people we run into in life: Sappers, Trappers and Zappers. At the end of the day, focus on "More Zap, Less Sap." In any conflict, the key to resolution is avoiding the temptation of focusing on our differences, and staring with where you agree.

This Week on Trapping Across America we are looking at how we are trained to think as adults and why this way of thinking can hurt your trapping. Most of us want to do what we are told to think. Like where is the right place to put a trap at a coyote set? Where does the trap go on a raccoon set out on the water or a pocket set? You have a trap placement in mind, but why, where did you get your ideas from? have you challenged these ideas. Most trapping is done with the grown up adult way of thinking. Sounds right, but this way of thinking does not leave a lot of room for discovering the things out on your own trap line. Kids discover for the sake of discovery, you want to be a better trapper, you should really be open to discovery. You might find that little kid that has to ask why and why not. Discovery is the key to find better and faster ways to trap. I will be talking about something that I have been playing around, ….the Portable Pocket. It has opened my eyes.
This week on Trapping Across America we have the one and only Jeff Dunlap with us. We are talking about the internet, the bad side and the good side of how it is part of trapping today. The bottom line, we as trappers can and should use social media platforms and forums to help each other, not attack and demean other trappers. We have PETA for that already. If you do not want your wife, mom or grandmother to see your ranting, maybe some thought should be put into your post before you hit enter. Next I get to talk to Jeff about his trapping and road trapping in Louisiana. Note from Clint….we are not calling any trapper schizophrenic, a socialist or bitter. We are talking about the thought process that comes across on-line. We are not talking about ……a single person or a single trapper. So don't jump to a conclusion that is not based off of facts.
Leon Howard, also known as the Wallstreet Trapper, is a New Orleans native who has become a renowned wealth-building expert. Having grown up on the streets, he knows firsthand the challenges and pitfalls that come with it. During his 10-year prison sentence for involvement in criminal activities, Leon discovered the power of the stock market and was able to change the entire trajectory of his life for the better with it. Through his company, From the Trap to Wallstreet, Leon offers a wide range of resources, including courses, e-books, and access to a private members-only group where he simplifies the process of wealth creation and normalizes generational wealth for the black community through investing in the stock market. With a community of over 1 million Trappers, Leon's mission is to educate and empower others to take control of their financial futures. He believes that everyone should have access to financial education and is dedicated to breaking down the barriers that prevent people from entering the world of investing and building wealth one share at a time. Today on the show we discuss: how growing up in a chaotic environment can have a significant impact on a person's mindset and choices, why exposure to different opportunities and role models can make a difference in steering someone away from a life of crime, how financial literacy and investing can provide an alternative path to success and wealth, why changing one's mindset and perspective is crucial for personal growth and transformation, how a change in outlook can lead to a shift in behavior and goals, why seeking therapy and addressing past trauma is crucial for personal growth and healing and much more. TSV host Fred Bird is joined by John Daniel, President of the National Trappers Association, and Jason Wisniewski, President of Fur Takers of America, to talk about the history and necessity of fur trapping as a predator and furbearer control mechanism. From pheasants, turkeys and other ground nesting birds to the issue of predator control and ecosystem balance, they discuss the impact of legislation and fear-mongering on the industry, as well as the global market for fur products. They also explore the environmental impact of synthetic fur and the importance of balancing human population with wildlife management. Fred touches on the disconnect between the public and trappers with both organizations, as well as the positive effects of trapping on wildlife populations, particularly for turkey management. This conversation explores various aspects of trapping, including best management practices, regulation, trapping techniques and equipment, selective trapping, misconceptions about trapping, the laborious nature of trapping (it's certainly not as easy as the anti-hunters claim!), trapping as a skill and the unprecedented increases in trapping education nationwide, the importance of trapping for conservation, misinformation and its effects on recent legislation, trapping for self-sufficiency, and the value of trapping education and events. Litter trapping plants don't worry about soil, they make their own! Because so many species in the tropics grow either epiphytically or in nutrient poor soil, some of them have turned to alternative solutions. Their anatomy is such that they collect everything from dead leaves to bird droppings. A diverse community of soil microbes and invertebrates can then go to work to create nutrient rich humus. What's more, litter trapping abilities can be found in plants as distantly related as ferns and orchids! Join me as we revisit an interesting discussion with Dr. Scott Zona about his work finding and describing litter trapping plants. Animal identification and traceability topped the list of issues discussed at the Cattle Industry Convention in Orlando. The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association launched the TSCRA Leadership Development Foundation. The recent cold blast affected cattle performance in Texas Panhandle feedlots. A lot of Texas High Plains ranchers are looking at the potential for herd rebuilding. Weather related disasters have cost farmers and ranchers big money over the last year. The ability to better diagnose stress fractures in performance horses can lead to less catastrophic injuries. Trappers and landowners may soon be required to check their traps more often for mountain lions.

Ever wondered how a seasoned outdoorsman expertly tracks and traps the elusive river otter or sly beaver? Today, we're joined by Pennsylvania's own Jason Walton, who unveils the time-honored craft of trapping and the preparations crucial for a triumphant season. Together, we navigate the changing landscape of hunting, tracing the decline in hunter numbers and exploring the intricate balance of nature that veteran trappers like Jason work within. Our discussion isn't just about the hunt; it's a deep respect for wildlife management and an homage to the familial traditions that fuel the passion of hunters and trappers alike. As we wade into the shared domains of otters and beavers, Jason's tales from the South Atlanta River shine a light on the strategic importance of beaver trapping in preventing habitat destruction. Our chat ventures further into the wilderness, uncovering raccoon and mink trapping strategies that harmonize with nature's rhythm. You'll discover how ant hill dirt, a little-known but brilliant winter trapping technique, exemplifies the innovative spirit of trappers facing the season's harshest elements.
