We will never be short on fears. Failure, rejection, sickness, losing a loved one, being alone—the fears we carry are many and heavy. Fear can be a tyrant, a bully we can’t hide from. It can paralyze our spirit, damage our relationships, and hinder our faith. On Thursday's Mornings with Eric and Brigitte, author, Trillia Newbell joins us and shares that she is no stranger to fear. She has known its harsh grip on her life, but she has also known the gentle hand of God, a peace and a faith from the One who conquers fears. In Fear and Faith, Trillia will encourage you as she reflects on Scripture and her own story. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today, on Karl and Crew Mornings, we kicked off this week's theme: "Fear Less". We discussed what it means to fear not. The scripture reference was Isaiah 41:10. God says to fear not, He is with us! When was there a time God met you in your fear? We welcomed guest, Trillia Newbell. She is a renowned speaker, blogger, and author. We highlighted her book, "Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves". Also, we got an inspiring update on Christian broadcasting in both Ukraine and Russia from, Victor Akhterov, who helps lead FEBC's ministry in these worn-torn areas. Finally, this is week 6 of our "Summer of 10" bible memorization campaign. The verse is Colossians 2:6-7. You can listen to the Karl and Crew Showcast to hear highlights of today's program. Grounded in the truth and hope of God’s Word, we press into hard conversations asking, listening, and learning about experiences beyond our own to gain a deeper understanding from our marginalized brothers and sisters in faith. We commit to learning individually and collectively from Scripture, each other, and other resources that speak directly to racial issues, inequalities, and injustices. We will use our voices in our circles of influence to speak the truth to policies, institutions, and individuals concerning racism. Finally, we recognize our utter dependence on God’s grace and strength for this journey in seeking to walk together more effectively, and that His Glory through His son Jesus is our greatest calling.
Hello, my name is Trillia Newbell and I am looking forward to talking to you about the hope we have in Romans 8. What interesting times we are in! I’m going to talk about one of the rhetorical questions that Paul addresses. A rhetorical question is asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point, rather than to be answered. But during this time, it’s almost as if Paul is saying, “If God did all of these things for you, he provided his Son for you, how would he not also grant you all things?” Read Romans 8:31: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” TRILLIA NEWBELL is the author of Enjoy: Finding the Freedom to Delight Daily in God's Good Gifts (2016), Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves (2015), United: Captured by God’s Vision for Diversity (2014), a children's book, God's Very Good Idea: A True Story of God's Delightfully Different Family, and a six-week Bible study on Romans 8, If God is For Us: The Everlasting Truth of Our Great Salvation. We live in a beautifully diverse world. Unfortunately, our world is also plagued by racial and ethnic division. As families, we can bring unity and change by embracing our differences. But it requires that we pass onto our kids what it means to walk in love, not fear—a lesson that's easier said, than done. In this episode, author Trillia Newbell, sits down with us to discuss: How to talk to our kids about families who look different from ours Whether or not we should raise our kids to be "color blind" What it looks like for us as adults to model unity and love in our home How we should talk to our kids about the history of racial tensions And most importantly, how the gospel transcends racial and ethnic differences Show Notes: Trillia Newbell is the author of If God is For Me, a 6-week Bible study on Romans 8 (2019), Enjoy: Finding the Freedom to Delight Daily in God's Good Gifts (2016), Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves (2015), United: Captured by God's Vision for Diversity (2014), and a children’s book, God’s Very Good Idea: A True Story of God’s Delightfully Different Family. On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Trillia Newbell about celebrating diversity! Trillia and I talked about everything from how we can practically celebrate people of all backgrounds, to how Jesus himself loved people who were different than him. She said, “When I think of Jesus I think of a man who died for sinners, who died for those who could never repay him, and who related to those who others would shun. His example is ours. It’s what we should aim to live like and live for.” Trillia encourages us to simply love our neighbors and to seek to know them through something as simple as inviting them to share a meal around our tables. Ultimately, we discussed God’s plan to glorify himself by rescuing a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. I know you’ll have so many takeaways from this conversation.
