And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?” 14 And he said, “No; but I am the commander of the army of the Lord. Now I have come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped and said to him, “What does my lord say to his servant?” 15 And the commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.MEET TRILLIA NEWBELLTrillia Newbell is the author of several books including, A Great Cloud of Witnesses, Sacred Endurance, If God Is For Us, Fear and Faith, and the children's books, Creative God, Colorful Us and God's Very Good Idea. “I want to help parents engage further with their children about what it means to welcome and love the way Jesus does.” Today we hear from Trillia Newbell about her children's book, The Big Wide Welcome. She brings to our attention the sin of partiality or favoritism and how important it is for us as parents to check our own hearts in order to model this for our children. Kids will learn that Christians and churches are called to be like Jesus, fully welcoming people so they can come to know the Good News.   ABOUT OUR GUEST Trillia Newbell is the author of several books including 52 Weeks in the Word, A Great Cloud of Witnesses, Sacred Endurance, If God Is For Us, and the children's books, The Big Wide Welcome, Creative God, Colorful Us and God's Very Good Idea. Matthew 19:14 NIV My dear brothers and sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ if you favor some people over others? For example, suppose someone comes into your meeting dressed in fancy clothes and expensive jewelry, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in dirty clothes. If you give special attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”—well, doesn't this discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives? James 2:1-4 NLT Yes indeed, it is good when you obey the royal law as found in the Scriptures: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you favor some people over others, you are committing a sin. You are guilty of breaking the law. James 2:8-9 NLT The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9 NKJV When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” John 4:7-10 NIV   BOOK BY TRILLIA NEWBELL The Big Wide Welcome LINK Trillia Newbell   MOMS IN PRAYER ·       New to Moms in Prayer? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On Thursday July 23rd, 2015 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will present a discussion on the Astrolabe as a magical device. Those of you who have seen John Carter will recall the medallion of the Holy Therns that enabled them, and Carter, to transmit themselves to other planets in the solar system. It was a magical device that required a conjuration to make it work. There is a very impressive scene inside a Thern temple with an illuminated solar system on the transparent floor that shows the vectors and the formulas. (if you can read Barsoomian.) Now this was created by an earthling screenwriter, so do we, or did we, have anything like the Thern Medallion in our magical tradition to inspire him? Yes, the Astrolabe -- a marvelous hand held instrument from Classical times that could locate celestial objects (stars) calculate their exact altitude and position. Primarily used for navigation it was also used by astrologers and magicians. Combined with the Soma Sophia (the completely gridded celestial sphere), it also becomes a device to project consciousness (like the Thern Medallion) to other worlds. With Soma Sophia derived formulas of course. This is all Sixth Degree material but perhaps it will inspire some of you to keep climbing Mithras' ladder, So, if you are curious to know how wizards explore the heavens, tune in and we will plot a course and set sail.

In this episode, I chatted with Trillia Newbell about how we can respond biblically to hurtful comments in the wake of loss (both inwardly and outwardly). We talked about why well intended comments are often so painful, and talked about responses like assuming the best, walking away, and even offering a strong rebuke to uphold God’s truth and protect the next woman. Trillia shared two personal examples of hurtful comments she received and how she responded and we even walked through how to handle to a few specific common responses to miscarriage. I pray that you would walk away from listening to this episode feeling seen by God and more equipped for your next awkward or painful encounter. About Trillia Newbell: Trillia Newbell is the author of several books including A Great Cloud of Witnesses, Sacred Endurance, If God Is For Us, Fear and Faith, and the children’s book, God’s Very Good Idea. When she isn’t writing, she’s encouraging and supporting other writers as an Acquisitions Editor at Moody Publishers. Trillia is married to her best friend, Thern, they reside with their two children near Nashville, TN. You can find her at trillianewbell.com and follow her on twitter at @trillianewbell.  Questions in this Episode: Would you start off by just telling us a bit about your own experience with miscarriage? I’m curious to know, why do you think so many of the responses people offer to women walking through the pain of pregnancy loss land in such a raw place? Why are so many of these attempts to be helpful actually so unhelpful? How does the truth of the gospel and God’s word bring comfort when we are met with a lack of sensitivity or understanding from others?  How should the truth of the gospel and God’s word inform the way we respond to hurtful or unhelpful responses from others? How can we practically prepare for these comments/ interactions in a way that both guards our hearts and helps us not to sin against our neighbors in our anger and pain? Let’s walk through some common comments and maybe you can help us think through how we might respond. “I don’t understand why you’re making such a big deal out of this.”  “At least you weren’t very far along.” “At least you know you can get pregnant.” “Better it didn’t survive. This is just your body’s way of getting rid of a defective baby.”  Questions for every guest: What’s one way God has used your experience of miscarriage to work in your heart and life? If you could encourage a woman to meditate on or memorize any verse or short set of verses in this season, what would it be and why? Hello, my name is Trillia Newbell and I am looking forward to talking to you about the hope we have in Romans 8. What interesting times we are in! I’m going to talk about one of the rhetorical questions that Paul addresses. A rhetorical question is asked in order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point, rather than to be answered. But during this time, it’s almost as if Paul is saying, “If God did all of these things for you, he provided his Son for you, how would he not also grant you all things?” Read Romans 8:31: “What then shall we say to these things? There are so many great passages in Scripture that we can run to when we feel sad - and it should be a great encouragement that even Jesus felt sad! Jesus is God, who came as a baby and grew and experienced life just as we do. He was sad, hungry, tempted, happy, and tired. He understands, and today He sits at the right hand of the Father interceding for us before God.  Listen in to hear more.

The Hermetic Hour

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 24, 2015 53:00

Primarily used for navagation it was also used by astrologers and magicians. Combined with the Soma Sophia (the completely gridded celestial sphere, it also becomes a device to project consciousness (like the Thern Medallion) to other worlds.
