Can you be a Christian without the church? In this timely episode, Dr. Carmen Imes argues forcefully—and pastorally—that Christianity without community is a contradiction. Drawing from her new book Becoming God's Family, she and Dru Johnson explore why so many people are walking away from church and what it would take to draw them back. From church hurt to spiritual abuse to toxic celebrity culture, Carmen doesn't shy away from the reasons people leave. But she also offers theological and pastoral wisdom on why we can't give up on the church. They explore biblical stories of failed community, why Hagar's story matters, and what healthy faithfulness looks like in a flawed body. They also discuss when it's time to leave a church, how American and global cultures can distort biblical community, and why true belonging means discomfort, difference, and even lament. Drawing on stories from her life and ministry, Carmen makes the case that church isn't about getting what we want—it's about becoming who we're meant to be. Send us a textDive into the profound reality of God's sovereignty—His absolute rule over the universe as creator, king, and judge. This thought-provoking exploration takes us through key biblical passages that reveal the depth and breadth of divine authority. What does it truly mean for God to be sovereign? Throughout scripture, we discover that God doesn't merely know the future through prediction—He knows it through determination. From Isaiah's declaration that God accomplishes all His purpose to the Psalmist's recognition that "our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases," we encounter a God whose plans cannot be thwarted. The discussion examines how even seemingly random events fall under God's providential control. When the lot is cast, when sparrows fall, when storms rage—nothing escapes His oversight. This meticulous sovereignty extends not just to major historical events but to the smallest details of our lives, including the very hairs on our head.As believers, we face a critical choice in our heart posture: Will we silence our objections and praise Him in His sovereignty, or will we stiffen our necks and reject this vision of God? The challenge is to let scripture speak for itself rather than importing our own limitations onto our understanding of who God is.Understanding God's sovereignty provides tremendous comfort, security, and reverence. It reminds us that our lives are in the hands of an all-wise, all-powerful king who works all things according to His perfect will. In a world that often feels chaotic and uncertain, His sovereignty assures us that nothing happens by chance and nothing can ultimately stand against His purposes.Join the conversation and discover how embracing the reality of God's sovereign rule transforms not just our theology but our everyday experience of faith, hope, and trust.Support the show
God, desiring to be known, has revealed Himself through His "Word," defined not merely as utterances but as His complete thoughts, will, and purposes. This revelation manifests in declarations, Scripture, and most profoundly, in Jesus Christ, who is described as the Word made flesh. The Word is "breathed out by God," serving as the ultimate authority, providing sufficiency for godly living, rebuking sin, offering correction, and training believers in righteousness. Understanding God's Word, illuminated by the Holy Spirit, is essential for recognizing false teachings, purifying one's life, and knowing Christ Himself.

In this episode of Wisdom's Table, I delve into a topic that is both profound and often misunderstood: why God wants to bless you. I want to clarify from the outset that this discussion is not about the prosperity gospel, which can distort the true meaning of God's blessings by equating them solely with material wealth. Instead, we explore what the Bible genuinely says about God's desire to bless us and the purpose behind that blessing. I outline three key points about the blessing of God: You are blessed to be a blessing to others: The blessings we receive are not just for our own benefit but are meant to be shared with those around us. When we focus on serving others, we align ourselves with God's intention for our blessings. Blessings are collective and community-driven: In our individualistic society, we often forget that we are part of a larger community. The blessings God provides are meant to uplift and support the collective, not just the individual. Your blessing is a sign of who God is: Our blessings reflect God's goodness and serve as a testament to His character. When we walk in His presence, we become a living example of His love and grace, drawing others to Him. 00:00:01 - Welcome to Wisdom's Table Introduction to the podcast and today's topic on God's blessings. 00:00:38 - Understanding God's Blessings Discussion on the true nature of God's blessings versus the prosperity gospel. 00:01:00 - The Nature of God's Blessing Exploration of what it means to be blessed by God and the significance of His presence. 00:02:45 - The Blessing of Abraham The biblical account of Abraham and how God's blessing was passed down. 00:05:11 - Challenges Under Blessing Acknowledgment that blessings do not eliminate life's challenges. 00:06:14 - Blessing as Community The importance of understanding blessings in a collective and community-driven context. 00:07:38 - Blessed to Be a Blessing The concept that blessings are meant to be shared with others. 00:09:24 - The Spirit of Deception Warning against the self-centered view of blessings. 00:10:49 - Collective Blessings Discussion on how blessings are meant for the community, not just the individual. 00:11:59 - God's Goodness Reflected How blessings serve as a sign of God's goodness to others. 00:13:39 - Evangelism Through Jealousy The idea that God's blessings can lead others to seek Him. 00:15:35 - Personal Testimony Rachel shares a personal story about a significant purchase and its meaning. 00:20:49 - God's Intentionality in Blessings Reflection on how God desires to bless us with meaningful gifts. 00:21:31 - Reframing Our Perspective Encouragement to view blessings as God's presence rather than material wealth. 00:22:15 - Conclusion and Call to Action Final thoughts on being blessed to bless others and the importance of God's presence.

Understanding God's character transforms our prayer life. The Lord's Prayer and Psalm 23 reveal God as both holy and intimate - a perfect Father who runs toward us in our shame and a Good Shepherd who personally cares for the rejected. God is simultaneously transcendent in His holiness and immanent in His love. Like the father in the prodigal son story, He takes our shame upon Himself. Like a shepherd with a rejected lamb, He holds us close to His heart. When we grasp this dual nature of God, we pray with confidence, bringing everything to Him and pressing into His presence even in our worst moments.

What if the chaos in your life and marriage isn't random, but the result of living out of sync with God's divine order? In this powerful episode, Dr. Kim welcomes pastor, author, and Bible teacher Manny Arango to the show for the first time. Drawing from his book Crushing Chaos, Manny shares how God brings peace by establishing order and how that same truth can transform our marriages. From understanding “Sequence, Authority, Rhythm” to identifying the chaos we invite into our homes, this conversation is full of practical wisdom and biblical depth. Whether you're navigating stress, disconnection, or just longing for more peace at home, this episode will help you move toward order, unity, and rest. Episode Highlights: God's first works calm the chaos. Understanding God's context changes the way we read the Bible. God is an expert at not just blessing people with peace, but giving people order. We can't make lasting decisions in our marriage based on a temporary rhythm. Boundaries are necessary for proper order. Quotes from Today's Episode: Alot of times we are really good at knowing what the Bible says, but not good at knowing what the Bible means. He takes our lives which are naturally chaotic and dysfunctional and God begins to create order. Most people think the opposite of chaos is peace, but the reality is the opposite of chaos is order. Life is full of rhythm. You can't fight against the rhythm of life. God does healthy, biblically inspired boundaries. Your feelings aren't a good indicator of whether or not something is godly or biblical. The Word of God has to have preeminence. Couples' Conversation Guide: Where might we be living out of sync with God's order in our marriage or home? How do we define peace in our marriage? Do you feel like it is based on emotions or God's order? What boundaries might we need to set to protect the rhythm and health of our relationship? Mentioned in this Episode: Find Manny on IG. In this timely and urgent message titled "Saved From God's Wrath," Servant Marcia Carty of Heaven on Earth Ministries of Jesus Christ dives deep into the escalating signs of the end times, drawing striking comparisons to the days of Noah. She emphasizes that while we may not be at the very end, we are witnessing conditions—such as extreme violence, child trafficking, and widespread iniquity—that mirror biblical prophecies. Key takeaways from this powerful teaching include: -- The Urgency of Repentance and Righteousness: Servant Marcia stresses the critical need for believers to stay in God's will amidst increasing wickedness. She highlights that without God's voice guiding us, we risk becoming as wicked as those we lament. Regular supplication and a lifestyle of crying out to the Lord are essential for remaining in His favor. -- Understanding God's Wrath: Drawing heavily from Isaiah 13, Servant Marcia details the terrifying nature of God's coming wrath. This will involve angelic forces, widespread destruction, the darkening of celestial bodies, and the humbling of the proud. She warns that no earthly escape, even underground cities, will protect from God's judgment, as the earth itself will be shaken. -- Signs of the End Times (Luke 21): The message outlines Jesus' prophecies regarding the end, including false Christs, wars, commotions, nation rising against nation, earthquakes, famines, pestilence, and fearful sights. Crucially, believers are warned of impending persecution, even from family and friends, for their faith in Jesus. -- The Hope of Redemption, Not Wrath: A central theme is the assurance that true believers are "not appointed to wrath." Through Christ's sacrifice, a pathway to reconciliation and salvation has been provided. Servant Marcia refers to 1 Thessalonians 4, explaining the rapture—the catching away of believers, both living and resurrected, to meet the Lord in the air—as God's plan to deliver His saints from His fierce anger. -- The Lamb's Worthiness and the Seven Seals: The teaching culminates with a look into Revelation 5 and 6, where Jesus, the Lamb of God, is deemed worthy to open the seven seals, symbolizing the unfolding of God's judgment. Each seal brings forth a new stage of tribulation, from conquering spirits and widespread death to famine, martyrdom, and cataclysmic natural disasters. The ultimate call is to embrace Jesus as Lord and Savior now to be delivered from these coming events. Servant Marcia passionately encourages listeners to walk away from unrighteousness and embrace holiness, reminding them that God has always been a deliverer, and His plan is to deliver us from His wrath. In Nehemiah 8, we see how the Israelites gathered eagerly to hear and understand God's Word after returning from exile. Their experience teaches us that truly understanding Scripture leads to reverence, conviction, joy, and spiritual hunger. When we comprehend God's Word, it transforms us—moving us from sorrow over sin to the strength found in God's joy. To grow in understanding, we need regular reading, proper explanation, a willing heart, and practical application. Making Scripture a priority isn't just about knowledge; it's about allowing God's truth to change how we live.

# Understanding the Second Commandment: Worship in Spirit and Truth In this Bible study session, we delve deep into the essence of the first two commandments, with a particular focus on the second commandment as outlined in **Exodus 20:4-6**. This commandment not only defines how we should worship but also warns against the dangers of idolatry. ## The First Commandment: Prioritizing God We begin with a brief overview of the first commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me" (**Exodus 20:3**). This commandment lays the foundation for all others by establishing that God must be our sole priority. While we acknowledge that no other gods truly exist, the concept of other gods can distract us from our Creator, thus the emphasis on prioritizing God above all. ## The Second Commandment: How We Worship The second commandment, found in **Exodus 20:4-6**, is more nuanced: - **Exodus 20:4**: "You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below." - **Exodus 20:5-6**: "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God..." This commandment is about the manner of our worship. God warns against creating images as objects of worship, emphasizing that He is a jealous God who desires our exclusive devotion. ## Understanding God's Jealousy The concept of God's jealousy might seem unsettling because human jealousy often leads to negative outcomes. However, God's jealousy is rooted in His desire for our hearts and identity. Unlike human jealousy, which is often about possession, God's jealousy is righteous and seeks to protect our relationship with Him. - **Possession**: God desires our hearts fully devoted to Him.- **Identity**: God's identity is tied to His redemptive acts, such as leading His people out of Egypt (**Exodus 20:2**). ## Consequences and Blessings God outlines the consequences of breaking the second commandment and the blessings of keeping it: - **Punishment**: "Punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me."- **Blessing**: "Showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments" (**Exodus 20:5-6**). This warning is not about generational curses but rather about the continuation of sin through generations. Each generation has the choice to either follow or stray from God's commandments. ## Application: Worship in Spirit and Truth In applying the second commandment today, it's crucial to avoid idolizing anything created, whether material possessions or even religious artifacts. Our trust and hope should be firmly placed in God. - **Worship in Spirit**: Recognize God as spirit, transcending all material forms.- **Worship in Truth**: Follow the true path established by Jesus Christ, who is "the way, the truth, and the life" (**John 14:6**). In conclusion, the second commandment guides us to worship God authentically, without the interference of idols or images. By prioritizing God and worshiping in spirit and truth, we align ourselves with His desires and receive His blessings across generations.

Send us a textGood morning! Thank you for taking a few minutes to listen. In fact, such things can distract from the power of God. The solution is to centralize all teaching and honor upon “Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” God's power supports our faith, not the wisdom of men or the abilities of any individual. Unfortunately, this power is hidden from the people of the world, not by God's will, but because of their hard hearts and closed ears. For those willing to hear the truth, the Holy Spirit has gifted them teachings from the mind of the heavenly Father. The “natural man” will not accept them, nor is he able to do so. However, he who evaluates things spiritually will know God's mind and be saved through His Son. As Christians, our hope rests fully in the Lord Jesus Christ. While we value teachers who help us grow in faith, they must never replace Christ as our ultimate source of strength. We appreciate those who guide us to the Lord, regardless of their abilities. Understanding God's will is a privilege once hidden but now revealed through Christ. For unbelievers, it remains a mystery, but for us, it is a profound blessing to know the mind of our Creator. Through the Holy Spirit and the teachings of apostles and prophets, we are guided in truth. We should eagerly seek God's Word daily, allowing it to shape our spiritual journey and draw us closer to Him. Loving Lord, thank You for revealing Your wisdom and truth through Your Spirit. Help us not to rely on human understanding, but on the guidance of Your Spirit as given through Your apostles and prophets. Fill us with humility and a desire to grow closer to You each day. Teach us to seek Your Word, not the words of men, and let it transform our thoughts and actions. Please grant us the mind of Christ, so we may walk obediently, reflecting His love and wisdom in all we do. We will dedicate time to contemplating spiritual truths in Jesus' name. Thought Questions: - How can you know if a teacher is working with pure motives? What will be central in their teaching as the strongest evidence of integrity? - If the wisdom of God has never aligned with the world's wisdom, what should your attitude be toward counter-culture aspects of the faith? - Is it scary to realize that the “natural man” cannot discern spiritual things? How do you protect against becoming such a person?

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, hosted by Hunter. In today's episode, recorded on July 9th, we continue our daily rhythm of drawing near to God's Word and allowing it to shape us. Hunter leads us through powerful passages from Micah 1–4, capturing God's call for justice and hope for restoration, and then moves into Hebrews 6, exploring the encouragement to grow in maturity, hold onto hope, and anchor ourselves in Christ's love. As we breathe, rest, and reflect together, Hunter reminds us of the remedies for spiritual dullness: savoring both the “milk and meat” of Scripture, and putting our faith into action through love for others. Today's reading and reflection challenge us to experience the “with God” life—a life anchored in Christ's hope, lived out through loving action, and grounded in the unchanging promises of God. Join us for prayer, reflection, and encouragement as we journey deeper into God's Word and discover afresh that we are truly loved—no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: The remedy for a dull spirit. Yesterday, we were reminded of the importance of our hearing—hearing God's word and savoring it, whether it's the milk or the meat. That kind of deep attentiveness, that savoring and letting God's word do its work in us, is the antidote to spiritual dullness and hearing loss. Today, the scripture takes us further, showing us another remedy: love. Love for God's people, expressed in action, is another way that spiritual indifference and dullness are healed. The writer of Hebrews tells us that God is not unjust; he sees and remembers the work we do for him, especially when it is shown through our love and care for other believers. The encouragement is clear: keep on loving others as long as life lasts. Why? Because this living out of love, this putting the word of God into motion through tangible acts of kindness and care, protects us from spiritual dullness and indifference. It keeps our hope alive, makes it certain, and keeps our spiritual senses sharp. If we let the word of God take root—not just in study, but in the daily business of loving others—we'll discover that our souls are anchored, firm and secure, in Christ. Like the anchor that holds steady through every storm, Jesus—the one who has entered the inner sanctuary ahead of us—holds us fast. This is the with-God life. A life not just of study or knowledge, but one lived in the presence of God, marked by love, hope, and assurance. Our hope is not wishful thinking. It is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It draws us right into the presence of God, where Jesus has already gone before us as our eternal High Priest. There, in God's presence, is where we find our greatest joy and where God receives glory. There, we find that love is not just something we do—it is the air we breathe in the kingdom of God. Hear him today. Let his word, and the love he gives you, anchor your spirit. Step into the freedom, joy, and life that is yours in Christ. Love, savor, repeat—these are the rhythms that keep us close to him. That's the prayer I have for my own soul. That's the prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's the prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Gracious and everlasting God, you have brought us through the shadow of night into the promise of a new day. You go before us with your mercy, sustain us by your grace and keep us from wandering paths of fear or pride. Let every word we speak and every step we take be formed by the goodness of Christ. O Lord, gather your people far and near. May every tribe and tongue come to know your peace. Let justice roll like a river and healing flow where there has been division. Pour out your spirit upon all flesh and bring us closer to the day when your kingdom comes in fullness through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation. In this episode, we sit down with theologian Ryan Hurd to explore one of the most profound and often misunderstood attributes of God: His mercy. Drawing from his deep engagement with classical theism, scholastic theology, and biblical exegesis, Ryan walks us through the rich doctrinal framework that helps us understand how God's mercy is not in conflict with His immutability or sovereignty, but rather flows from the very heart of who God is. We talk about how modern theology often misses the mark by reading human emotion back into God. If you've ever wrestled with how God can be merciful without changing, this episode is for you. Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy
Wives, Pleasure Is An Important Part of Life (Really!) If you're a wife who feels like physical intimacy just isn't for you... this post is for you. Maybe you've been hurt in the past. Maybe sex feels awkward, or painful, or even meaningless. Maybe it seems like something only he wants, and you just go along with it. If any of that resonates, I want you to know: you're not broken. You're not alone. And there is hope. When Sex Feels Disappointing or Painful in Marriage When I first got married, I was so excited. I had saved myself for marriage and imagined physical intimacy would be beautiful and bonding. But what I experienced instead was disappointment. It was physically painful, emotionally awkward, and deeply confusing. I felt ashamed, fat, insecure, and unprepared. My marriage at that time eventually ended in divorce. There was no biblical reason—I just couldn't take the strife and anxiety anymore. I was devastated. I had followed what I believed was the right path, and yet my marriage still crumbled. And then, I drifted. I walked away from God's design, from purity, and into promiscuity. But God is a Redeemer. In time, He gently brought me back. I met a kind, respectful man, and with him, God showed me what healthy, healing intimacy could look like. And it has been a journey—one filled with slow growth, freedom, and true pleasure. Understanding God's Design for Sexual Pleasure in Marriage Let's be honest—many wives could take or leave sex. Some even hate it. And yet, God designed physical intimacy to be good—not just for your husband, but for you. You may have grown up in purity culture, where sex was labeled “bad,” “shameful,” or “off-limits.” Then suddenly, you get married and are expected to flip a switch and enjoy it. That's confusing, to say the least! But what if we started thinking of pleasure the way God does? What if we saw it as a gift? You enjoy a clean house, right? You feel at peace, relaxed, energized. That's pleasure. So why is it so hard to believe that sexual pleasure could be just as valid, just as worthy, just as holy? Why Christian Wives Should Value Pleasure in Intimacy God didn't create intimacy only for reproduction or duty. He created it for joy, connection, healing, and pleasure. Even Song of Solomon celebrates sensuality—touch, smell, taste, sight, and sound. Pleasure is part of God's design. It doesn't have to end in orgasm or even intercourse to be sacred. A simple act like cuddling, stripping down just to rest in your husband's arms, or a gentle caress can be deeply meaningful. An moment where you focus on intimacy without the pressure of a “goal.” It's healing. It's freeing. How to Begin Enjoying Intimacy Again—Even If You Feel Broken You don't have to leap from disinterest to passion overnight. What if you started with just an inch in the direction of intimacy? A kiss. A caress. A flirty smile. That's it. Then maybe next time, a little more. Intimacy doesn't have to be all or nothing. It's a dance. A progression. A fluid rhythm between two people who are learning how to love and be loved. Biblical Boundaries for Sex—and the Freedom Within Them I've seen it time and again—wives who once hated sex now pursue it with confidence and joy. Not because they've become someone they're not, but because they've allowed God to rewrite their story. You don't have to live stuck in shame, apathy, or duty. You were made for more. You were made for joy. You were made to receive pleasure—and not just physical pleasure, but the peace and playfulness that come from deep connection. You can laugh, relax, and actually look forward to physical intimacy. Even if you're post-menopausal. Even if you've been through trauma. Even if you feel like you're the one who's “just not into it.” God can change it. He's done it in me. He's done it in hundreds of wives I've coached. And He can do it in you. With love & hope, The Delight Your Marriage Team PS - For more information on the Connection Sessions mentioned in the podcast, check out Delight Your Marriage: Connection Sessions. PPS - To learn more about our research on Biblical boundaries in marital intimacy, please visit Delight Your Marriage: Boundaries in Sex. PPPS - Here is a quote from a recent graduate: "So much of my prayer time was trying to pray for my hubs and me and us in our marriage and lamenting over the state of our marriage...it was so hard for me to engage in intimacy with my husband...Most times I just had to turn off my heart and pray and power through, which only served to make me even more avoidant of it...[Now,] I don't feel like I need a brick wall to protect my heart from my husband...Intimacy feels like a safe place...It's not intimacy's 'for him', it's ALWAYS intimacy for 'us'."
