Happy Wednesday! Today Lindsey Medenwaldt is joining the podcast! This is the eleventh episode in a series dedicated to special co-host, Noelle. In this episode, host Janell Wood and guest Lindsey Medenwaldt discuss how to bridge the divide between Christians and non-Christians and have meaningful conversations. They explore the importance of building relationships, being good listeners, and sharing the gospel with love and respect. Lindsey shares insights from her book, 'Bridge Building Apologetics,' and emphasizes the need for Christians to be prepared to give a defense for their faith. They also address the question of why Christians make it their job to tell others about Jesus and the importance of knowing God through Scripture and prayer. Lindsey explains why prayer is a foundational aspect of bridge building apologetics. Prayer helps calm the mind, recall information, and seek guidance in conversations. She emphasizes the importance of active prayer life and being in constant conversation with God. Towards the end of the episode, Janell introduces the next co-host (hi Lizzy!) who will be joining the podcast for conversations soon.  We hope you enjoy this week's episode!   About Lindsey Medenwaldt Lindsey Medenwaldt is the Director of Ministry Operations at Mama Bear Apologetics, and she's our resident worldview and world religion specialist. She has a master's degree in apologetics and ethics from Denver Seminary, as well as a master's in public administration and a law degree. She wrote Bridge-Building Apologetics, which will be released in May 2024 (Harvest House). She's an editor and author for the Christian Research Journal, an editor for Women in Apologetics, and a member of the Pelican Project. She has also contributed to various writing projects, including a chapter about the Jehovah's Witnesses to the Popular Handbook of World Religions (Harvest House 2021). Lindsey and her husband, Jay (who is also an apologist), have been married for 16 years. They live with their daughters in Iowa. In her spare time, Lindsey loves watching British reality television, especially The Great British Baking Show, and she's an avid reader (Jay and Lindsey have an at-home library of more than 2,500 books!). -- -- -- -- -- We would love to thank our Patrons for all their amazing support! The Thieves Guild is a full cast audiobook podcast of the epic fantasy series written by Nebula Award nominee Jake Kerr. With chapters released every Monday and Friday, the podcast provides a pulp-era serial experience with short episodes released regularly. The Thieves Guild Doesn't Exist!Or so the population of the isolated city-state of Ness believe. As far as everyone knows, the Thieves Guild is a symbolic thing meant to represent the hidden and vile citizens of the city that steal from those who work hard for what they own. It isn't actually real. And the Guildmaster of the Thieves Guild? Well, their only real duty is being pelted by garbage in the Founder's Day parade every year.Irresponsible Ralan Miller figures he is untouchable as he creates mischief across the city. After all, he is guildless and thus beyond the reach of the authority of all the guildmasters. That is until his brother, the powerful guildmaster of the Merchant Guild, loses patience with him, and names him the Thieves Guild guildmaster shortly before Founders Day. Facing a future of angry citizens throwing rotten fruit and garbage at him during the Founders Day parade, Ralan soon discovers that the Thieves Guild isn't so symbolic after all and may be the only hope in saving the city from a simmering civil war.The Thieves Guild is a sprawling epic saga that starts with Ralan, the mischievous brother to the guildmaster of the Merchant Guild, thrust into an unexpected central role in navigating geographical conflict, secret societies, mysterious cities, and heroic feats. The Thieves Guild ebook or paperback is available at all major bookstores via this link. This podcast is produced by In Shambles Productions. The OT God seems unfair, unpredictable, capricious. Is he really just?2. Does God show favoritism? Wasn't anyone on the planet saved before he chose the Jews?3. Wasn't Yahweh hot-tempered?4. But still, didn't the Hebrew God play rough?5. Why isn't the OT God "nice" like God in the NT?6. It almost seems as if God is just waiting for us to trip up. Isn't he a bit of a sadist?7. Why was the Lord concerned only with the outward behavior? The NT God looks at the heart.8. Wasn't the old covenant a covenant of works? Since no one could measure up, they were always "in the doghouse."9. Was the Lord just experimenting in the OT? Why didn't he get it right the first time?10. How could God approve of so many inhumane institutions? Why didn't he overthrow them, instead of endorsing them?In connection with Q.10, please click here for the podcast on Slavery.

Christie Purifoy is Stephanie's near-neighbor and dear, dear friend. They invite you in the conversation to deepen our relationship with God through simple ways to add beauty to your home through flowers, year round.  What does gardening teach us about intimacy with Him? How do flowers invite us to trust Him through the seasons of life – the seasons of abundance, or growth, but also of winter, wilderness, and waiting? Through enchanting prose and delightful activities, avid writer, gardener and place-maker Christie Purifoy invites you to capture the curious magic of the garden and bring its life and joy into your home this season.  A flower garden is a place where endless possibilities are contemplated (and celebrated), where reason bows to beauty, and practicality gives way to whimsy. It's where we sink our roots deep, lean into the rhythms of each season, and wish for beautiful things to grow. Stephanie has been labelled a “black thumb” as a child – meaning, she is more apt to kill a plant, than to give it the environment to thrive! Can she cultivate a home in bloom? Christie brings hope to this helpless flower-killer who constantly seeks beauty in all areas of her life. Christie and Stephanie had initially met a few weeks before they recorded Christie's first guest appearance on Gospel Spice, back in 2022. And now they are together again to discuss Christie's latest book, A home in bloom, and its deep ramifications in our spiritual lives and our relationships with one another. MORE ABOUT A HOME IN BLOOM A HOME IN BLOOM is the second book in the trilogy that started with GARDEN MAKER. They go so well together, both visually and thematically, that it would be a shame not to own both of them! They make the perfect Mother's day gift, among many other gift occasions. This fully photographed guide shows you how to enjoy the many gifts the garden offers inside your own home, transforming your living spaces into places filled with warmth and wonder. Each season, Christie shares her notes on what to plant and walks you through easy projects that will surely become lifelong practices that help you bring the outdoors in. What does your prayer life reflect about the condition of your heart? Do you pray about what you care about, or do you pray about what God cares about? This past weekend, Pastor Steven challenged us to deepen our prayer life and to take on the motivation and mission of Jesus. Our prayers have the power to build kingdoms – our kingdom or God's kingdom, and only one of them will last.  And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Matthew 9:35-38 Jesus' mission is more than meets the eye. What kingdom do my prayers build? Jesus' motivation is what He sees in our soul. Do I see people?  You pray about what you care about, and you care about what you pray about. Pray about what God cares about. What if I got today what I prayed for yesterday?  What if I  got in eternity what I prayed for today? Golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Revelation 5:8 And another angel came and stood at the altar with a golden censer, and he was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar before the throne, and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.   Revelation 8:3-4

This episode acquaints you with me briefly. I speak of my conversion and ministry since then. Early on, God showed me that he wanted me to teach, preach, and write. I endeavor to bring the truth of Christianity to the world and to build up the church in the faith given once for all to the saints (Jude 3). Because of my work in philosophy and apologetics, my story can be an apologetic for Christianity. I make this case in “Autobiography as Apologetic,” published in The Christian Research Journal: https://www.equip.org/articles/autobiography-as-apologeticIn the podcast, did not mention all the books I have published in the show, so here they are.1. Christyne is a mother of 5, and the co-author of their brand new book, "In Jesus' Name I Pray: TJ the Squirrel Learns the True Heart of Prayer." They share their heart for parents, and the importance of parents being the primary disciple-makers in the lives of their children. Books can be a great tool for teaching our kids, and their hope is that this book serves families and helps their kids understand what it means to pray "in Jesus' name."

Difficult Conversations -Lessons I learned as an ICU Physician

Welcome to Difficult Conversations with Dr. Anthony Orsini. Today, I have a wonderful guest who's been doing great things in the healthcare field and has some wonderful stories to share.  My guest today is Jeff Atwood.  Jeff is a healthcare leader, author, and speaker who has more than twenty-five years of healthcare leadership, marketing, and storytelling experience. He consults with healthcare and community groups nationally, sharing insights and encouragement found at the crossroads during his two decades serving healthcare organizations, while raising a daughter with significant and developmental challenges. Jeff's books have been published by Simon & Schuster, Random House, and Harvest House, and today we'll be talking about his latest book, Need to Know for Graduates: Little Things That Make a Big Difference, which was released earlier this year. Jeff shares his journey and how he entered a career in healthcare by accident.  He tells us about his daughter who has had a seizure disorder her entire life, and how he and his wife had the opportunity to touch almost every part of the healthcare system as parents. We hear about the Gratitude Symposium and Jeff shares a sweet story, as well as his thoughts about how the healthcare community is wired with gratitude. Dr. Orsini shares his insights on the importance of teamwork when it comes to providing care to human beings, and we hear some great stories of the true kindness of people in healthcare  We hear some great advice about how we can bring even more beauty and humanity out in medicine, and why acknowledging  people when they do good things is so important.  Dr. Orsini tells us his “sticker story” and why such a simple thing seems to bring so much excitement to people. He tells a tender story about a housekeeper in the Neonatal ICU. Jeff's discusses his most recent book, Need to Know for Graduates: Little Things That Make a Big Difference, and his idea behind the book that shares advice and things he thinks are important for parents to tell their kids. He explains how as a parent you really need to be intentional with what's important and how you say it. Host:Dr. Anthony OrsiniGuest:Jeff AtwoodFor More Information:Difficult Conversations PodcastThe Orsini WayThe Orsini Way-FacebookThe Orsini Way-LinkedInThe Orsini Way-InstagramThe Orsini Way-Twitterdrorsini@theorsiniway.comIt's All In The Delivery: Improving Healthcare Starting With A Single Conversation by Dr. Anthony OrsiniResources Jeff Atwood (Email)Need to Know for Graduates: Little Things That Make a Big Difference by Jeff AtwoodNeed to Know for New Parents: Little Things That Make a Big Difference by Jeff Atwood
