Also, cancel culture has prompted many Christians to regularly voice their opinions for fear of being silenced. Some obnoxiously vent on every issue, regardless of their knowledge of that subject (or lack thereof). I have always considered myself to be culturally curious. Since I was younger there was always a draw to lean in and learn others stories. Identifying different traditions in the lives of those around me always struck me as an invitation to a whole new world, and deeper connection.  As we dive more into parenthood, I have been thinking a lot recently about how I can raise Wesley to be just as curious, and intentional with getting to know the stories of those at our table. A few years ago I heard Trillia Newbell speak at a Thinq Media Conference that we were attending, and I remember that she communicated with authority, invitation to action and that her words, though powerful, landed softly. When I was given the opportunity to host a conversation with her surrounding her new book, Celebrating Around The Table, the answer was an easy yes. Through this book and conversation Trillia will lead us through topics like: How to raise culturally curious kids What intentional living means as a family Resources on reflecting on black history month for all ages Recipes that celebrate her rich cultural background and how they are used to enhance her families cultural celebration Trillia and I laughed and reflected throughout this whole conversation, and we invite you to join us wherever you listen to podcasts. Buy your own copy of Trillia's book hereFollow Trillia @trillianewbell Purchase a copy of the book that Trillia references in the episode: The art of self forgetfulnessThis Episode is Sponsored By: Feast & Fettle get $25 off your first week of hand crafted, flavor packed meals delivered straight to your door so you can soak up the season with code GATHER25 at checkout Watch our Youtube episodes here!

Christian Pluralism: Living Faithfully in a World of DifferenceThe term ‘pluralism' has been subject to misunderstanding – even misuse – over the past several years. Some read or hear the word and think simply of a multiplicity of opinions. Others think of a sort of moral relativism that affirms your truth and my truth, no matter how contradictory they may be. Others still may think of this as some sort of squishy interfaith unity that denies matters of ultimate importance. In a conversation with John Inazu, Trillia Newbell, and Michael Wear we dive into the meaning of pluralism and how it is that Christians in particular can live faithfully amidst a world of difference. These careful writers and thinkers help us begin to grasp a more robust vision for Christian pluralism:“We are all actually called to be reconcilers. Any one of us who have professed faith in Jesus Christ, we are called to a ministry of reconciliation. That means a proclamation of the gospel. So sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to the world around me, to my neighbors, to my friends...I believe that the greatest love that we can extend to others is Jesus.” - Trillia NewbellWe hope you're inspired by this conversation about hope, justice, faithfulness, and love, even in the midst of change, challenge, and conflict. This podcast is an edited version of an evening conversation recorded in 2020. Proverbs 16:9 tells us that the mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps. Our plan was for another guest during the 7:00am hour. That guest fell ill overnight and was not able to join us. Despite the change of plan, we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose! Our good friend, Moody author Trillia Newbell, unknowingly connected to our studio on the wrong date. But God knew all along that this morning's focus needed to be on Romans 8. One of the most studied and beloved chapters of the Bible—God is For Us cements, not only for kids, but adults also, in God's most precious, life-changing promises, that we can all discover what it means that we have a good Father. https://www.moodypublishers.com/god-is-for-us/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bridging Divides Through Faith, Loving as Jesus Loved In a world marked by increasing divisions, embracing faith becomes a powerful incentive for unity and understanding. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Jesus, who exemplified boundless love and compassion, we find a profound guide on how to navigate societal divides. It is not merely about what we believe but how we embody those beliefs in our actions. Loving as Jesus loved involves recognizing the inherent humanity in every individual, fostering empathy, and transcending differences. Moreover, the art of effective communication plays a pivotal role; it's not just about expressing our thoughts but doing so with kindness and respect. Not every thought needs to be voiced publicly, and the gentle, thoughtful delivery of our words can contribute significantly to bridging gaps and fostering a more harmonious society. Who is Daniel Darling?Daniel Darling is an author, pastor, and Christian leader. He currently serves as the Director of The Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Assistant Professor of Faith and Culture at Texas Baptist College.Dan is a bestselling author of several books, including The Original Jesus, The Dignity Revolution, The Characters of Christmas, The Characters of Easter,  A Way With Words. and his latest, Agents of Grace: How to Bridge Divides and Love as Jesus Loves. He is the general editor, along with Trillia Newbell, of a small group study on racial reconciliation, The Church and the Racial Divide and is a contributor to The Worldview Study Bible.
