Ideas Have Consequences
The Last Stand: Why the Battle for Life Is a Battle of Worldviews | Dr. George Grant

Ideas Have Consequences

Episode Summary: What happens when a society rejects the sanctity of life and abandons a biblical worldview? In this episode, we sit down with Dr. George Grant to discuss The Last Stand, his documentary created with Seth Gruber. Together, they trace the historical roots of today's cultural battles, showing how the struggle over human dignity, the value of children, and the lordship of Christ has shaped civilizations from ancient Rome and the French Revolution to modern America.Dr. Grant explains why the pro-life movement is ultimately a clash of worldviews, why cultural decline begins with false ideas about the human person, and why Christians cannot retreat from the public square. We explore what faithful cultural engagement looks like in an age increasingly hostile to biblical truth. This conversation offers both a sobering diagnosis and a hopeful roadmap for renewal through discipleship, Christian education, institutional leadership, and long-term faithfulness. If you're concerned about the future of Western civilization, the pro-life movement, or the Church's role in discipling nations and shaping society, this episode is for you.Who is Disciple Nations Alliance (DNA)? Since 1997, DNA's mission has been to equip followers of Jesus around the globe with a biblical worldview, empowering them to build flourishing families, communities, and nations.

It's Thursday, May 28th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Iranian Christian convert gets 10-year prison sentence A judge in Iran recently sentenced a Christian convert to nearly a decade in prison. That's according to the Persian-language Human Rights Activists News Agency. Authorities raided the home of Ghazal Marzban in January. They arrested her and confiscated her Bible. A judge sentenced her to nine years and eight months in prison last week on trumped up charges.  The 41-year-old Christian woman converted to Christianity from Islam nearly 10 years ago. Since then, she has faced arrest, imprisonment, interrogation, and now another imprisonment.  Please pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ in Iran. The country is ranked 10th on the Open Doors World Watch List of the most oppressive countries to be a Christian.  Hebrews 13:3 says, “Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” Trump's Cabinet meeting on war with Iran U.S. President Donald Trump held a cabinet meeting at the White House yesterday about the Iran war.  The United States and Iran remain in a fragile ceasefire that began last month. President Trump hopes to finish the war through negotiations.  Listen. TRUMP: “Iran is very much intent; they want very much to make a deal. So far, they haven't gotten there. We're not satisfied with it, but we will be. Either that or we'll have to just finish the job. Their navy is gone, as I've said a thousand times. Their navy is gone. Their air force is gone. Everything's gone. And they're negotiating on fumes.” However, the Trump administration is prepared to finish the job with the military if negotiations fail. Listen to comments from War Secretary Pete Hegseth.  HEGSETH: “Whether it is through the efforts of your negotiators, that they ensure they never have a nuclear weapon, or we have to go back to the War Department to finish the job that way, we're prepared to do that.” MAGA Ken Paxton trounced Senator John Cornyn in GOP primary In a rejection of the GOP Establishment in the May 26th Senatorial run-off in Texas, Republican Party voters ousted Senator John Cornyn who has been in the Senate for 23 years, according to World Magazine.   After President Donald Trump endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton during early voting, he trounced Cornyn, 63% to 36%, reported NBC News. CORNYN: “After a public service career lasting more than four decades and 18 consecutive campaign wins, tonight we've come up short in this primary runoff. A few years ago, I had a friend of mine say, ‘You know what makes God laugh?' He said, ‘When we make plans.'” Without referencing Ken Paxton by name, Senator Cornyn vowed to support him in the general election this November. CORNYN: “I've spent most of my time in the Senate, building the Republican Party in Texas, and in the U.S. Senate. I've always supported the Republican ticket, and I intend to do so again in this general election. I've said throughout this race that I trust the voters of Texas. They've made their decision, and I must respect it.” However, Cornyn did throw some shade at the registered Republicans who failed to show up and vote for him. CORNYN: “In this runoff election, approximately 8% of registered voters made their voices heard. Of that 8% who voted, roughly 60% said they were ready for a different direction. Another reminder that those who show up decide for those who do not.” (Watch Senator Cornyn's 7:42-minute concession speech here). Ken Paxton, who has vowed to support the Trump agenda, said this. PAXTON: “Today, change was on the ballot, and change won.” (applause) He expressed his gratitude for President Trump's endorsement. PAXTON: “When everyone in Washington told him to abandon me and abandon the people of Texas, he didn't listen. Instead, he gave his complete and total endorsement. President Trump is the leader of our party, and his endorsement is the most powerful force in politics. And I'm honored to have his support, and I look forward to working with him in the Senate to deliver for Texas.” Despite Cornyn and his allies outspending Paxton 9 to 1, Paxton came out on top in this $163 million primary, making it the most expensive primary in U.S. history. PAXTON: “We went up against $150 million and all the attacks in the world. And you know what happened? The voters declared loud and clear a simple truth that we know in our hearts and in our souls: Texas is not for sale.” (cheers) Paxton pivoted to the general election and spoke about his Democrat opponent, James Talarico, a 37-year-old Texas State Representative. PAXTON: “My opponent is the most extreme radical the Democrats have ever nominated. He's even running a ‘vegan' campaign, whatever that is. (laughter) He goes by a few names that you may all have heard of. Some people know him as ‘Tofu Talarico.' (laughter)  Some people call him ‘Six-Gender Jimmy.' (laughter)  I've even heard some people call him ‘James Tala-freak-o.'  (laughter) “He's a threat to our children. He wants boys in girls' sports, gender mutilation surgery performed on kids. And, when asked what he loved, outside of his family and friends, his first answer was ‘trans kids.' That's weird. That's a radical guy. “He wants the open borders policies of Biden, the woke agenda of AOC. He said, ‘You can't be a Christian if you support the oil and gas industries.'” (Watch Ken Paxton's 9:51-minute victory speech here.) Man who gave Abortion Kill Pill to pregnant woman indicted A Texas jury indicted a man last week in an abortion-related case.  Twenty-five-year-old Jon Rueben Demeter allegedly gave an abortion-inducing drug to a pregnant woman, killing the unborn baby.  It's the first time Texas has criminally charged someone for providing an abortion since banning most abortions in 2022. Connecticut requires background check for homeschool parents Connecticut is expanding its regulation of homeschooling in the state. Democrat Governor Ned Lamont signed Public Act No.26-37 into law on Tuesday. The law requires parents to disclose their intent to homeschool to the state. Also, parents cannot take their children out of public school for homeschooling without undergoing a background check. James Mason, the president of the Home School Legal Defense Association, said, “By requiring every parent to be pre-screened before they can begin homeschooling, it turns parents from trusted actors into potential risks to be managed.” 42% of Christians don't talk about God with other believers And finally, Lifeway Research released analysis of its 2025 State of Discipleship Living Unashamed study. The survey found that 30 percent of Protestant churchgoers agree with the statement that “Many people who know me are not aware I am a Christian.” That's up from 14 percent in 2013. Also, 42 percent of respondents said spiritual matters do not normally come up in daily conversations with other Christians. That's up from 29 percent in 2013. Psalm 71:1 and 15, says, “In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame! … My mouth will tell of Your righteous acts, of Your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, May 28th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Christina Hello, everyone, I'm Christina Darnell, the managing editor of MinistryWatch. Welcome to the MinistryWatch podcast. In today's extra episode, I talk with Warren Smith about some news items that are slightly (even significantly) outside of our normal charity and philanthropy “beat.” So, Warren, what's up first? Warren Fidelity Charitable has released an interesting study.  Among the findings: “Most pre-retiree and retiree givers (ages 50-80) are committed to giving and avidly supporting their favorite causes. Of the donors surveyed, over half of pre-retirees (56%) and retirees (59%) gave $1,000 or more—and 17% of all donors gave $5,000 or more—to IRS-qualified charities in 2023.” Christina Fidelity Charitable may think that level of support is “avid,” but it sounds pretty anemic to me. Warren It is. Retirees and so-called “pre-retirees” both give far less than the biblical tithe, or 10 percent of their income, taken in the aggregate. That said, working people in their 50s and 60s are often in their peak earning years, and often have their home paid for and their kids through school, so there is some evidence that they are giving more, just not a lot more relative to their income. Christina Any other interesting findings in this study? Warren The Fidelity study found that “more than three-quarters of these pre-retirees and retirees (78%) say that charitable giving plays a significant or pretty important role in their lives” and “almost one-quarter of pre-retirees and retirees (24%) say charitable giving is much more important than other financial priorities.” Christina Retirees are also spending more time as volunteers. Warren “In the last year, over two-thirds of pre-retirees (71%) and over half of retirees (55%) volunteered,” the report said. “Nearly 9 in 10 retired respondents who currently volunteer agree that volunteering is a way to remain active (88%) and connected (91%).” Christina Let's shift gears. The Anglican Church in North America has been in the news lately because of its chaplain corps. There was an ugly split a few months ago. But today, some good news. Warren Rear Admiral Carey H. Cash, an ACNA (Anglican Church in North America) chaplain, is the new Chief of Chaplains for the United States Navy Chaplain Corps. Rear Admiral Cash will provide spiritual leadership and pastoral oversight for Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel and their families, strengthening spiritual readiness, moral resilience, and compassionate care in the midst of the unique challenges and demands of military service. Christina Warren, I already know that you are sucker for data and lists. Forbes magazine has a new list out, its annual list of billionaires. What can that list say, and what does it mean? Warren The new annual list from Forbes says there are now 3,428 billionaires on Earth. In 1987, the year Forbes started keeping track, the list had 140 names. The list included more than 400 new entries to the list. The growth of rich and super-rich motivated Washington Governor Bob Ferguson to sign into law the state's first income tax of any kind — a 9.9% “millionaires' tax” on income over $1 million. Christina And even some Christian groups are chiming in the subject. Warren The Christian online journal Mere Orthodoxy has an interesting analysis of the list. Its conclusion: the current wealth inequality is unjust. Christina But you disagree with most of the conclusions of this article. Warren I do. Most of the billionaires are rich because of their ownership in companies that create tens of millions of jobs. And there is that most important and overlooked fact of all in this conversation, and that is that we all die, and none of us take it with us. Most if not all the billionaires on the Forbes list got there because they built companies and stewarded them over time. Their personal wealth is usually incidental to the wealth they have created for others. Now, don't get me wrong. I think – as the Bible teaches – that those with wealth have much greater responsibilities. To whom much is given, much is expected. And the Bible has special condemnation for those of us who have wealth and yet ignore the poor, or structural injustices. But to make a blanket statement about the inherent injustice of wealth are painting with too broad a brush, and are ignoring many wealthy yet honorable people of the Bible. But, in a spirit of equanimity, here is the article. You can decide for yourself if its arguments hold water. Christina I also know you cover the world of journalism. And there have been some changes in the conservative journalism space. Warren The Daily Wire, after having its day in the sun, appears to be on the decline. The online magazine Puck recently reported a “sudden, precipitous decline of Ben Shapiro's Daily Wire,” with “sweeping layoffs and a steep drop-off in audience.” Christina On the other hand, the more even-handed Dispatch seems to be thriving. Warren I was particularly pleased to hear that The Dispatch had promoted my friend Michael Reneau to Executive Editor. According to a statement from The Dispatch, “Michael got his start in local journalism in East Tennessee, rising through the ranks to serve as editor of The Greeneville Sun before moving to national journalism, and eventually serving as editor of WORLD Magazine.” Christina You wrapped up your Signs and Wonders column this week with a few statistics from THINQ. Warren I was stopped in my tracks by some recent factoids from my friends at THINQ, the Nashville-based ministry led by Gabe Lyons. Among their gleanings: 23.7% of all Christian clergy in the U.S. are women, up from 2.3% in 1960. (Axios). And almost a quarter of American women aged 60 and over (24.3%) are on antidepressants. (CDC) You can sign up for THINQ's email bulletins here. Christina You're recording today from Dallas. That's the latest stop in what seems to be a lot of travel this spring. Warren I have had a lot of travel, but I'm not suffering. It has been tiring, but a lot of fun. It was a delight to meet with about 25 MinistryWatch supporters in Dallas this week. It is always fun to tell our story, but to tell it to such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience is even more fun. We will be doing similar events in upcoming weeks in Knoxville, Denver, and Colorado Springs. Let me know if you would like to join us. My email is wsmith@ministrywatch.com. Christina That brings to a close this EXTRA episode of the podcast. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm Christina Darnell, along with Warren Smith. Until next time, may God bless you.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Timothy Reed Pope claims communion between Christians and Muslims Pope Leo XIV visited Algeria, Africa last week, and celebrated what he called “communion between Christians and Muslims” and the “shared aspiration for dignity, love, justice, and peace” -- whatever that is. Leo made no mention of the forced closure of Protestant churches as well as laws criminalizing evangelism, the distribution of Bibles, and posting Christian messages online. Out of the top ten countries in the world named for persecuting Christians, nine are Muslim-controlled nations. Psalm 12:1-2 is the cry of God's people in every age: “Help, Lord, for the godly man ceases!  For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men.   Everyone utters lies to his neighbor; they speak with flattering lips and a double heart.” Japan's major earthquake On Monday, Japan was hit with a major 7.7 earthquake on the Richter scale located on the northeastern side of Honshu. That's the biggest quake since 2015 to hit the island country. Experts are warning of another bigger quake potentially striking within a week. Fire on Borneo Island A huge fire displaced thousands on the Malaysian island of Borneo, reports NBC News. Almost 1,000 homes were consumed in the fire.  America's drought today worse than Dust Bowl days of 1934 God's hand is upon the United States.   The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Drought Monitor is registering worse drought conditions in America today than the Dust Bowl days of the Great Depression in 1934 — and the worst conditions since the monitor began in 1895. Over 60% of the 48 contiguous states are under moderate to exceptional drought conditions right now. That would include 97% of the Southeast, and 65% of the West. Also, the Drought Monitor places the last ten years, running from 2017 to 2026, as equally as severe as the ten years running from 1932 to 1941. These will be the two worst drought periods in recorded history for this country. In Leviticus 26:18-20, God warns of national droughts. He said, “If you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins. I will break the pride of your power; I will make your heavens like iron and your Earth like bronze. And your strength shall be spent in vain; for your land shall not yield its produce, nor shall the trees of the land yield their fruit.” President Trump vs. Rep. Chip Roy on “no-warrant surveillance” President Donald Trump has drawn criticism after expressing his support for the reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act 702, which gives the government power to spy on citizens, in what is known as “no-warrant surveillance.” President Trump took to Truth Social, asking House Republicans to pass a “clean extension of FISA 702.”  Back in 2024, Trump wrote, “KILL FISA, IT WAS ILLEGALLY USED AGAINST ME, AND MANY OTHERS.” Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas explained to Fox News why Americans should be wary of federal overreach. Listen. ROY: “As one of my colleagues, Michael Cloud, said the other day: ‘Never does the intelligence community ever walk into the room and say, ‘Hey guys, you know what? We have all this power to go look at a lot of stuff. You know, today we're going to give some of it back.' “That literally never happens. So, Congress, representing the people, has to say, ‘Hold on. We need to stand up for people, make sure they're being protected.” Democrats trying to impeach War Secretary Pete Hegseth House Democrats are working to impeach War Secretary Pete Hegseth over his role in the Iran War, reports News Nation.  The impeachment articles, crafted by Democratic Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari of Arizona, allege that the Secretary of War “broke his oath to the Constitution, put U.S. troops at grave risk through the unauthorized disclosure of classified information, and engaged in abuse of office and conduct beneath the dignity of his office.” Eight Democrats are co-sponsoring the resolution, which is all but ensured to fail as Republicans control the House and Senate.  60% of Americans: Abortion should be legal in most cases Sixty percent of Americans now say abortion should be legal in most cases. That's the latest revelation from Pew Research. That's up from 51% in 2015 -- 10 years ago. Plus, 66% of younger Millennials, those between their  late 20s and early 30s, take this pro-abortion position compared to 57% of those over 65.   Among the 50 U.S. states, only Arkansas was pro-life in that the majority wanted abortion illegal in most cases. Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts were the most pro-death states in America, according to this survey. Nebraska's new law on homeschooling The State of Nebraska enacted a law, Bill 937, requiring a 14-day waiting period for public-school families who decide to homeschool their children. The law also bans parents who have prior convictions involving sexual crimes from homeschooling their children, reports World Magazine. Record-breaking stock market U.S. stock market euphoria is setting records, reports MarketWatch.com.   The Nasdaq Composite Index has jumped 18% in just 13 trading days — that's the biggest winning streak since 1992. Anniversary of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride And finally, this weekend marked the 251st anniversary of Paul Revere's famous midnight ride and the battles of Lexington and Concord. Revere, who undertook his night journey along with fellow patriots William Dawes and Samuel Prescott, warned American patriots on the night of April 18th that the British, under the leadership of General Thomas Gage, were on the march. The next morning, April 19th, the “shot heard round the world” was fired on Lexington Green, and the first blood of the American Revolution was shed. The patriotic minutemen ultimately forced the British back into Boston in a running battle, securing the colonies their first victory. The American Revolutionary War would last until 1783, when the American colonies finally won their independence.  Close And that's The Worldview on this Tuesday, April 21st, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  Plus, you can get the Generations app through Google Play or The App Store. We reflect on what it means to steward both private life and public conversations with intention. From there, the conversation moves into home rhythms and support systems—how tools like shared calendars and simple home management structures can make a tangible difference, especially during seasons of solo parenting. Dr. Will Haas Vroom Vroom Veer Summary Journey to Integrative Medicine William shared his journey from medical school to finding his passion in integrative medicine, which focuses on using a variety of healing modalities to optimize health. He initially struggled with the conventional approach to medicine, which primarily focuses on treating diseases, and decided to pursue business studies during his medical training. However, a personal loss led him to fulfill his father's dying wish to complete his medical degree. William eventually found his calling in integrative medicine, which he believes should be the standard approach to healthcare, combining the best of conventional and alternative treatments. Cellular Optimization and Health Strategies Jeffery and William discussed the concept of cellular optimization and the importance of addressing toxins and oxidative stress in the body. They explored how factors like poor diet, lack of sleep, and environmental exposure can contribute to cellular damage and reduced energy levels. Jeffery shared his personal experience of reducing sugar and processed foods intake, which led to improved health and well-being. They also touched on the idea of getting a CT scan for a calcium score as part of a proactive approach to prevent heart attacks. Cardiovascular Health Assessment Strategies Jeffery and William discussed cardiovascular health, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic peptides. William explained the importance of assessing inflammation levels, homocysteine, and other markers to evaluate heart attack risk. They talked about the benefits of advanced lipid panels and the role of Apo B and oxidized LDL in predicting cardiovascular events. William shared a success story of a patient who improved his health through dietary changes, gut healing, and IV nutrient therapies. They also briefly discussed the potential of therapeutic peptides under medical supervision. Connections Website

Welcome back to Beat Nurse Burnout. In Part 1, we heard Ondrea Lynn's powerful testimony of trauma, spiritual searching, and finding true freedom in Jesus. Today, we're continuing the conversation — and we're going to talk about something deeply relevant to so many nurses: The connection between burnout, stress, and our bodies. If you're a nurse who has: -Gained weight during years of high stress or night shifts -Used food, alcohol, or sugar to cope after hard days -Felt disconnected from your body after pregnancy or trauma -Or wondered why willpower alone never seems to work This episode is for you. As nurses, we know this intellectually: Chronic stress → cortisol dysregulation → emotional eating → metabolic changes. But knowing the science doesn't always heal the pattern. What Ondrea discovered — and what she now teaches — is that lasting physical transformation must begin spiritually. When the nervous system calms, identity is restored, and coping shifts from survival to surrender, the body finally feels safe enough to change. Ondrea is a speaker and author of the book, ‘The Christian Women's Weight Loss Victory Plan (How to Defeat the Enemy and Transform Your Body).' Ondrea has helped thousands of women reach their personal health and wellness goals and improve their physical and nutritional health, as well as their emotional and spiritual well-being. Regular listeners to MinistryWatch know that one of the things we like to do here is celebrate what I sometimes call the “non-celebrity” Christian leader. We've seen so many of the toxic effects of celebrity leadership that we sometimes forget that it's a choice, and that it is possible to pursue our calling without pursuing celebrity. A group of people I admire for their approach to their art is a group of artists and others in Nashville associated with The Rabbit Room. These people include Andrew Peterson, who I have had on this podcast and my predecessor podcast at WORLD Magazine three or four times. But he has many fellow travelers in the Nashville music scene, including Andrew Osenga, who was a recent guest on the program, but also Randall Goodgame, Douglas McKelvey, Sandra McCracken, Charlie Peacock, Steve Taylor, John Mays – all of whom have been guests on this program. But man guy I've been wanting to talk with for years is…finally…my guest today. That man is Ben Shive. If you have even a passing knowledge of the Christian music scene, you probably know who Ben is. He has been involved in almost all of Andrew Peterson's music for the past 25 years, co-writing his hit “Is He Worthy?”  He was also a co-writer on Keith & Kristyn Getty's “Christ Is All in All.” He has produced music for Peterson and the Gettys, for JJ Heller, Dave Barnes, and MercyMe, and he won a Dove Award for his work with Brandon Heath. You can hear his playing and arrangements on the songs of Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Chris Tomlin. I wanted to talk with Ben about his work, of course, but also what it was like to be a part of a creative community, and what it takes to hold that community together for decades. We had our conversation via zoom. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Until next time, may God bless you.

Hi Sweet friend,  Today's episode is tender, powerful, and real. If you're a nurse or healthcare professional who has been: Spiritually curious but still searching Carrying unhealed trauma beneath a capable exterior Exploring “spiritual things” but feeling unsettled or empty Or quietly wondering if there's more to faith than what you've experienced This conversation is for you. My guest today, Ondrea Lynn, courageously shares her story — one marked by sexual and emotional trauma, deep spiritual hunger, and a long road of searching for healing in all the wrong places. Like so many helpers, she wanted relief. She wanted peace. She wanted freedom from the pain she carried in her body and soul. But the paths she took — including occult practices and counterfeit spiritual solutions — only left her more bound… until she encountered Jesus. And as nurses, we are often exposed to suffering, death, and spiritual questions daily — yet we rarely have space to talk about our own souls. This episode gently invites you to pause and ask: What am I actually seeking? And where am I going to find it? A major education study found teachers give boys lower grades – but only when they know the student is a boy. Researchers from Switzerland compared anonymous national exams with teacher-graded tests and found the bias only appeared when the teacher knew the student was male. When school tests were graded blindly, boys performed as well as or better than girls. The findings suggest that a teacher's sexism against males, not student ability, is a larger factor in lower reported scores for boys and contributes to long term academic gaps that follow young males for the rest of their lives. Raw Egg Nationalist (AKA Charles Cornish-Dale) joins to speak about masculinity and saving boys from biased teachers. Just The News founder John Solomon & The Post Millennial EIC Libby Emmons discuss Hillary Clinton's malfeasance, the neo-feminist movement, and restoring womanhood in a modern world that seems hellbent on eradicating femininity. Ep. 538: Daniel Darling In Defense of Christian Patriotism

We have heard a lot of discussion in the past few years about Christian Nationalism. But for all the talk, the books, and the social media traffic, there's less clarity than ever around the term. But one of the worst outcomes we have seen amidst this talk has been a dismissal of what my guest today, Daniel Darling, calls Christian patriotism. While Dan Darling rejects what is often a virulent and anti-Christian version of Christian Nationalism, he writes in a new book that patriotism isn't optional for Christians. He explains that God himself defines the time and place in which we live and gave us a command to love our neighbors. Loving our country and getting involved in the political, social, cultural, and civic lives of our nation are essential duties. Dan Darling is uniquely qualified to talk about these issues. He is a pastor and the author of several books, including The Dignity Revolution, which is one that had a big impact on me. He currently serves as the director of the Land Center for Cultural Engagement at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is a fellow at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He is also a columnist for WORLD Magazine and a contributor to USA Today. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Until next time, may God bless you.

It's Thursday, November 6th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Nigerian Muslims killed pastor, kidnapped 20 church members Nigerian Fulani Muslim assailants killed a pastor and nine Christians over the past week. On October 28, Muslim Fulani bandits killed Rev. Yahaya Kambasaya and kidnapped 20 of his church members in central Nigeria. In a neighboring state, militants killed nine Christians in a string of attacks between October 31 and November 3.  A Christian attorney in the area told Morning Star News, “These incidents occurred even when they were preceded with an early warning alert given to relevant authorities.”  Hamas returns body of American hostage Hamas, the Palestinian Muslim terrorist group, returned to Israel the body of the last American hostage it was holding in Gaza on Tuesday.  Itay Chen was a 19-year-old Israeli-American soldier. He was killed and taken hostage during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.  U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio posted on X, “We honor his life, mourn his loss, and stand by his family.”  Muslim socialist Zohran Mamdani elected as New York City mayor In the United States, Democrats won several elections after voters went to the polls on Tuesday. Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic socialist, won the race for mayor of New York City, and gave his victory speech Tuesday night. MAMDANI: “The sun may have set over our city this evening, but as Eugene Debs once said, (cheering) ‘I can see the dawn of a better day for humanity.'  (cheering) “For as long as we can remember, the working people of New York have been told by the wealthy and the well-connected that power does not belong in their hands. Fingers bruised from lifting boxes on the warehouse floor, palms calloused from delivery bike handle bars, knuckles scarred with kitchen burns. These are not hands that have been allowed to hold power. And yet, over the last 12 months, you have dared to reach for something greater. (cheering) Tonight, against all odds, we have grasped it. (cheering) The future is in our hands. (cheering) “My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty.” (cheering) He is now the first Muslim mayor of the biggest U.S. city, who beat former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo. NBC News reported that Zohran Mamdani got 50.4% of the vote, former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo got 41.6%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa got 7.1% On CNN, conservative commentator Scott Jennings explained who Eugene Debbs was whom Mamdani quoted with great admiration. JENNINGS: “He started his speech by quoting Eugene Debs, who ran for president of the United States five times as the Socialist Party of America candidate. “He went after everybody that he thinks is a problem. People who own things, people who have businesses. He said an interesting quote, ‘No problem too large for government to solve.' And so, when you think of the world that way, that every problem is something for government to do, let me just decipher this for you. “Tax increases as far as the eye can see which means the people who need to provide jobs, to the young people that you say need jobs, are going to flee as quickly as they possibly can. “He clearly sees the world in terms of the people who are oppressing you and the oppressed. And he said, ‘The oppressed are now in city hall.'” Democrat victories in other blue states There were two other notable Democratic victories. Democrat Abigail Spanberger won the race for governor of Virginia with 56.3%, becoming the first woman to do so, reported NBC News.  She beat Winsome Sears, who got 43.2% of the vote, and served as the Republican Lt. Governor under the term-limited Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin. And Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the race for governor of New Jersey with 56.3% of the vote, keeping the position in the hands of Democrats, and beating Republican Jack Ciattarelli. Vice President J.D. Vance responded to the elections on X. He said there's no reason to “overreact to a couple of elections in blue states.” But he also added, “We have to do better at turning out voters than we have in the past.” Republican leaders prayed for America Republican leaders and lawmakers joined with the Family Research Council for a time of prayer last Thursday. Listen to the opening comments from Tony Perkins, the president of Family Research Council. PERKINS: “Jesus said this in Matthew chapter 18:19. “He says, ‘Again, I say to you, if two of you agree on Earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in Heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My name, there I am among them.' “So tonight, we gather with the recognition that we need God's help. We gather in the name of Jesus to pray and ask for His hand, the Lord's hand of guidance, the Holy Spirit to lead us.” And listen to some of the closing prayer from Dr. Ben Carson, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.  CARSON: “Lord, we come before you today to pray for our nation. You have blessed the United States with freedom and opportunity and a rich legacy of faith. Please restore the righteousness in our homes, integrity in our institutions, unity among our people.   “And thank You for Your abundant blessing, Lord. You're bringing us together this evening through electronic media. But we know You're with us always. And we ask, in the name of Jesus, that you would bless us and bless this nation. Amen.” Vatican rejects Mary, mother of Jesus, as co-Redeemer On Tuesday, the Roman Catholic Church rejected Mary, the mother of Jesus, as the “co-Redeemer” of the world. The Vatican's top doctrinal office stated, “Any gaze directed at her that distracts us from Christ or that places her on the same level as the Son of God would fall outside the dynamic proper to an authentically Marian faith.” However, World Magazine notes the statement does not affirm a Protestant perspective on Mary. The Evangelical publication wrote, “Protestants believe Mary was ‘highly favored' by the Lord, but they do not believe she has an active role in the lives of believers.” 1 Timothy 2:5 says, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus.” Construction begins on Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer And finally, constructions begins this week on what is set to be the largest Christian monument in the United Kingdom. It's called the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer. The design for it is in the shape of an infinity loop called a Möbius strip, a surface which has neither beginning nor end. It will stand 170 feet tall and made out of one million bricks. Each brick will be linked to a story of answered prayer. Already, Christians have submitted 120,000 stories from 125 countries.  Richard Gamble, the project's founder, said, “This is the moment to build a landmark of hope… a lasting testimony to the power of prayer, preserving the Christian heritage in our nation.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, November 6th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). Send us a text#351 - When I started running, it was not easy trying to find information on running. I relied on Runner's World Magazine. That was in the 1980s. RW was a top-notch magazine back then. I loved it so much! I would read through each issue at least three times. I saved them up too and eventually would cut out articles I especially loved and saved them long after the whole issue was gone. I found other running magazines I loved. Progress, technology chances many things and it's changed the printed word. Most magazines are gone, including most running magazines. Today I focus on what happened to them, including the eventual demise of Runner's World, which, in my opinion, suffered greatly by not sticking to running, instead, following a different path. Let's go back in time and take a look at some of the great running magazines and what made them so great. Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify Fit, Healthy & Happy Podcast Welcome to the Fit, Healthy and Happy Podcast hosted by Josh and Kyle from Colossus...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the showMartha Runs the World websitehttps://www.martharunstheworld.com/Email:martharunstheworld@gmail.comInstagram:https://www.instagram.com/martharunstheworld/#

Ep. 500: Hunter Baker on “Postliberal Protestants”

MinistryWatch Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 21, 2025 37:30

When the Soviet Union collapsed, Frances Fukuyama famously declared that we had reached the “end of history.” He meant that the big arguments, the major ideological struggles, were now all in the past, and that liberal democracy would prevail from then on. The rest would be just cordial arguments about policy. That peaceful kingdom has obviously not come to pass. Some might argue that Fukuyama's core thesis is still true. Liberal democracy lacks a coherent, universal rival. No alternative ideology has matched its global appeal or institutional resilience. Even authoritarian regimes adopt democratic trappings (e.g., elections in Russia) to gain legitimacy, implicitly acknowledging liberal democracy's normative power. That said, Fukuyama clearly underestimated internal challenges within democracies—polarization, disinformation, and inequality—evident in events like the U.S. Capitol riot or Brexit. These weaken the system's appeal and stability. While history may not have “ended,” liberal democracy remains a dominant, yet contested, paradigm. Its triumph is neither inevitable nor complete, as cultural, economic, and political forces continue to shape ideological battles globally. These are some of the issues that Hunter Baker looks at in his new book Postliberal Protestants: Baptists Between Obergefell and Christian Nationalism. And, if you're not Baptist, don't be turned off by the sub-title. Baker argues – I think convincingly – that the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest protestant denomination in the country, is in some ways a proxy for all of evangelicalism. I think he's mostly right, and that's why I think his book should be read not just by Baptists, but by all Christian leaders who want to have a role in shaping important public conversations in the 2020s and beyond. Also, Hunter Baker's argument for religious liberty – a cause long championed by Southern Baptists – is one that I think bears particular attention in this era in which we've seen a resurgence of religious intolerance both in the United States and around the world. Hunter Baker has both a law degree and a Ph.D., and he's the provost and dean of faculty at North Greenville University, in South Carolina. He is the author of four books, and you may have seen his byline at WORLD Magazine, where he is a frequent contributor to WORLD Opinions. In a spirit of full disclosure, I should also say that Hunter is a friend, someone I turn to regularly for counsel and fellowship. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. Robert Allen Case II is one of the unsung heroes in the development of Christian news outlets over the past 30 years, in part because of his co-founding and leadership of World Journalism Institute, whose graduates are at all the news outlets I mentioned above, and many more besides.
