In this episode, Dr. I. David Daniels will speak with veteran Firefighter Roger Myers about a post on Facebook that changed his life. After a career in the United States Navy, Roger sought to continue serving by becoming a volunteer firefighter in multiple departments before becoming a career firefighter. After over two decades in a metropolitan fire rescue department, Firefighter Myers was depressed, suffering from PTSD, and watching his marriage fall apart. In an attempt to save the relationship, he wrote a post on Facebook regarding how the stress of his profession had spilled over into his life. The post went viral, and he received responses from around the globe regarding how his sharing had helped others with similar experiences. In this conversation, Firefighter Myers shares how this disclosure on Facebook helped lead him on a voyage of self-discovery, ultimately improving his overall mental health. This episode may trigger some watchers and listeners, so watch and listen cautiously. Susan Ryan sat down with Roger Myers, president and CEO of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan (PVM). In this recap, Marla and Mary discuss how Roger became an early adopter of the Green House model, opening two homes in Redford, Mich. Mary discusses why Myers was so amazed during the ceremony that was conducted when they turned the house over to the Shahbazim and elders. In addition, we look at how a PVM board of director member helped convince the union leaders about the importance of bringing the Green House model and empowered staff to their community. Marla takes a deep dive into the Program for All Inclusive Care of the Elderly, or PACE, model, taking a look at its history, mission and scope of work. Roger believes PACE holds much promise for the future of senior living. Marla explores Myers’ comment about willing to take a risk as a leader and his appreciation for the PVM Board of Directors’ ability to take measured, informed risks. She discusses the contents of an article entitled, “To Foster Innovation, Cultivate a Culture of Intellectual Bravery.” In addition, Mary and Marla offer some trivia for listeners. Hint: it has to do with the total number of podcasts produced to date. Mary was not even close with her response! Susan Ryan sits down with Roger Myers, president and CEO of Presbyterian Villages of Michigan, (PVM), headquartered in Southfield, Mich. He talks about bringing the first Green House homes to Michigan as the second organization in the nation to embrace the innovative model. Myers talks about how the decision was made, balancing risk with pursuit of innovation, and the impact of the model on his team and the elders who live there. He shares the scope of services and geographical reach of PVM across the state, including the proliferation of the Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (known as PACE) and home- and community-based services options—initiatives and services that exemplify the guiding vision and values of the organization. For those unfamiliar with PACE, Myers provides a snapshot today of what it is, why it’s important, and what PVM is doing broadly to address affordability, accessibility, and diversity and inclusivity across the continuum. He goes on to describe the synergistic partnership that has brought a better quality of life experience to the Green House community located on the Detroit waterfront. Roger Myers from Roll Bama Roll
Roger Myers talks with Ryne about the second day of the SEC basketball tournament.
Is it football season yet? Obviously not, seeing as Jim Harbaugh engaged in a bit of snark directed at Nick Saban regarding satellite camps. We'll be talking about that, as well as other topics that are coming out of SEC meetings this week in Destin. Mitch Gaspard decided to step down as the head of the Bama baseball team, and Roger Myers will join us to talk about his replacement. Oh, and Drew gets the pulpit to laugh at the fools on Twitter who yowled about Gaspard deserving another year. The action starts at 7 with Drew DeArmond, Cary Clark & Thomas Watts. Be there or be Auburn.
Roger Myers drops by to talk SEC baseball
It's baseball season, and that means time for fans to get to look at the new Joe. We'll have Roger Myers on to talk about that side of the Crimson Tide athletics. Also, Avery Johnson has been working miracles with the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball team and that will occupy a solid amount of our show as well. Finally, Drew is busy with high school basketball so we'll have William "Redfish" Barger filling in for him in the first hour. The action starts at 7 with Cary Clark and Thomas Watts. Be there or be Auburn.
With the approach of the summer solstice, days are about to get shorter which means football is just around the corner. Since football is a year round production, we will welcome William "Redfish" Barger to the program to give us our weekly Crimson Tide fix. We'll also take some time to talk to Roger Myers about MLB Draft and what it will do to the 2016 Tide baseball team. The action starts at 7 with Cary Clark, Drew DeArmond and Thomas Watts. Be there or be Auburn
The disappointment that has been Alabama basketball is taking a back seat this week since the Crimson Tide football team has begun their spring football practices. We'll still talk about the ongoing coaching search on the hardwood, but it will be a sideshow as BAMS talks about everything happening on the gridiron. We'll be joined by Roger Myers for his take on the happenings at the Capstone. The show kicks off with Cary Clark, Drew DeArmond and Thomas Watts at 5:30. Be there or be Auburn
There's a small dead period for football. Signing Day is done, and spring practice hasn't started yet. BAMS suffers from no such dead period woes, though. We'll be joined by Coach Quinneville to talk a bit of Bama Hockey, and we will be breaking down a bit of Crimson Tide Baseball with Roger Myers ahead of that season starting. The action starts at 7 with Cary Clark, Drew DeArmond and Thomas Watts. Be there or be Auburn.
