When you think of cryotherapy, you probably picture a human stepping into a freezing cold chamber — but did you know cryotherapy is now helping horses without the giant ice-box contraptions? This week on The Fur Real Podcast, we dive into the cold, hard facts with Brady Case of Precision Equine Therapy, a pioneer bringing mobile cryotherapy directly to horses (and even their owners!). Brady breaks down how targeted cryotherapy triggers a powerful physiological response that reduces pain, inflammation, and promotes faster healing — often slashing recovery times in ways that seem almost unbelievable. We talk about the science behind the chill, why cold therapy works so effectively for injuries and maintenance, and how his mobile system makes it easy for horse owners and trainers to integrate cryotherapy into their regular care routines. Not only is Brady treating horses, but he's also empowering owners, trainers, and barn staff to learn the techniques themselves — creating a ripple effect of better health and recovery in equine communities everywhere. If you love learning about cutting-edge animal therapies, want to boost your horse's performance and recovery, or are just curious how a little cold can create such hot results, you won't want to miss this episode. www.furrealpodcast.com   www.pecryo.com fb The Fur Real Podcast      fb Mark A Kyle fb Precision Equine Cryotherapy ig@thefurrealpodcast    ig@markakyle ig@precision_equine_therapy tik tok  @The Fur Real Podcast      tik tok @pecryo Speical thanks to J Jig Cicero @jjigcicero for our music intro and outro..you rock!!! If your horse's trot feels a little "meh" - and not the light, airy, expressive movement you dream of - you might unknowingly be the one getting in the way... In this encore episode, we're revisiting one of the most powerful conversations you can have with your horse: how your seat can either create space for better movement - or accidentally block it. Many riders think that once they master the basic rising trot, they can move on. But if you want true influence, softness, and connection, you need to dive deeper - starting with how you move with the trot, not against it. In this episode, you'll discover: Why a trot is never just a trot — and how to unlock its hidden potential The "bit in the middle" you must feel and create for more space and suspension 2 easy exercises ("Up, Up, Down" and "Down, Down, Up") to reveal whether you're influencing or blocking Why more energy doesn't mean faster — and how to manage tempo without losing balance Signs that your seat might be the bottleneck in your horse's progress Simple off-the-horse steps to improve your suppleness, balance, and influence

In this episode, we're exploring how the rising trot evolves far beyond rhythm and balance. I'm breaking down how posting to the trot is actually a tool—one that can either help or hinder your horse's movement and training, depending on how you're doing it. Because yes, there's a better way—and it all starts with YOU.

50+ Ideas to do With Your Horse in 15 Minutes or Less HERE https://stridesforsuccess.com/15   Riders stop riding for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes, it's a conscious choice; an injury, a change in circumstances, or a loss of confidence for example. Other times, life simply gets in the way. But whatever the reason, it doesn't have to define your riding journey going forward. You're maybe like many other riders, the reason that you've stopped was just a season of life—a temporary chapter, not the whole story. And yet, it's easy to take that reason and make it mean something about who you are. You, intentionally or not, weave it into your entire identity, convincing yourself that you're no longer a “real rider.” But here's the truth: “The reason you stopped riding is just that—a reason, not a definition. It's a chapter that's now ending - not the whole story!  Getting back in the saddle can feel uncomfortable, even when you want it more than anything. And I'm not just talking about physical discomfort. Often the mental challenges are even more real. This can be because your mind has grown used to its old story. 50+ Ideas for 15 Minutes or Less with Your Horse - Download for Free HERE As riders, we can often have a very negative association with tension. Yet, without it, neither you nor your horse would remain upright! Take away the tension and both of you will go limp and become a 'dead weight' immediately. So, instead of seeing tension as the enemy - it's key to begin reshaping your understanding and your 'practice' of tension. You must begin managing your tension. Tension is absolutely 100% essential for both you and your horse. It's the presence of too much or excessive tension that causes the issues...  Tension management is often called relaxation when it is related to horses and riding. And, just like tension, many riders don't really understand the concept of relaxation as it pertains to riding and training horses. I don't want to go too deep into relaxation today (there is a previous post and episode on that HERE). What's important to understand about tension and relaxation is that it's not just about the horse. This principle is equally as important for the rider to understand and develop throughout their own body.  In this episode of the Daily Strides Podcast, I will help you to begin developing more tension management throughout your body by beginning with creating 'calm' for both you and your horse. You will do this through your own actions and thoughts while working with your horse. It is still possible to move things forward - and reviewing your riding videos is a big part of that. I have already given you the 5 things to look for when reviewing your own riding and performance in a previous post HERE. Today I want to give you 5 things to focus on when reviewing your horse. Creating regular riding videos will allow you to be your own feedback person. The key is to simply document and make note of what's happening - without attaching any judgement Your Horse is Not You... So often, as riders, we can fall into the trap of 'seeing' our horse and our own body as 1 when watching videos of our riding. And yes, the idea is that you are moving and working together as 1. However, in order to make that happen, each individual must first become good at their part of the work. And that requires you to separate the reviewing. When you're working alone without a regular trainer or instructor, you must begin to create ways for self-review. Video is, hands down, the best way to do this, especially if your camera follows you. Automated motion tracking software makes this an affordable possibility for many riders now. But even if you don't have this technology, you can still simply use your phone, hit record, and ride. By creating regular riding videos where you are asking similar questions, riding similar movements, and reviewing them consistently, you create your own feedback. Similar to what a trainer or instructor would do in the arena.  However, the key to making this technique work for you is to figure out what to look for. Just watching the videos is not enough.  Many riders get caught up in simply looking at the video passively. Imagine if your instructor did that in the arena when working together?! I doubt that you would learn a whole lot, improve, or be very happy with the outcome! If you're reviewing your own riding videos, you need to act like your instructor or trainer. Look for specific things, for both you and your horse. And do this without judgment or criticism. In fact, you want to actually 'find' areas to improve, change, or clean up. What began as a leap into the unknown soon became a powerful mission to rescue horses from kill pens, creating a haven where they could live in peace and safety. Dawn didn't ease her way into animal rescue—she threw herself in, heart and soul, saving an entire herd from the start. Her story is a testament to resilience, passion, and the belief that when you follow your intuition, it often leads you exactly where you're meant to be. Through heartache, grit, and unwavering dedication, Dawn has reimagined what's possible for horse rescue, offering new hope in an industry where every saved life matters. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who believes in second chances, purpose-driven work, and the healing power of animals. However, this bond, for many riders, takes time to develop and strengthen. This is because building a connection with your horse takes more than just time in the saddle. It requires attention. As well as understanding, patience, and a deep respect for the unique partnership you're creating. In this episode of the Daily Strides Podcast, I want to give you some practical steps you can use to strengthen the connection with your horse.  I think that the beginning of building a connection with your horse starts with understanding your own expectations. Find out more about Daily Strides Premium HERE https://stridesforsuccess.com/dsp Being on a horse who is determined to run as fast as he possibly can towards every pole, fence, or jump that he sees is nerve-wracking! There are many reasons your horse might do this. And assuming that you have ruled out discomfort or pain, then retraining can begin. Unfortunately, retraining a horse who has become practiced in rushing jumps is a long and slow process. It requires time and consistency. And often requires the rider to make some changes as well.  In this episode, plucked directly from Daily Strides Premium, we will focus on you, the rider. My goal here is to help you identify where you might just be 'enabling' or even encouraging your horse's tendency for rushing jumps! I know this sounds a little bananas, but it happens more often than you think! This is an audio horse riding lesson and can be listened to as you ride your horse to help you become more aware of what you are doing in the saddle and how this may be influencing your horse. This episode is the first lesson from a week of audio horse riding lessons titled "Re-Schooling the Basics for Both Horse & Rider on the Flat". In this group of lessons, we begin working towards re-training a horse who is rushing fences by working on the basic aids, responsiveness and, equally as important, how the rider thinks. Remember, re-shooling a horse usually also involves re-training the rider to think and act differently.  The horse will respond better if the rider changes their approach and is consistently correct in what they are doing and asking…. These lessons will help you to develop better habits and responses. What would happen if you went 'all in' on one specific area of training or developing with your horse for the next 90 or so days?  If you laser focus every interaction to support and strengthen the thing you want to improve or make happen? As I'm writing this, there are about 90 days left in the year, which ties in nicely with goals, etc. However, whenever you're reading or listening to this, I want to encourage you today to begin your own 90-day journey with your horse... Starting today. Two things are absolutely essential for successfully training and developing horses and riders; time and consistency.  90 days is the timeframe for this particular focus or intention. Consistency is how you show up and the actions you take, over and over again. And if consistency is a challenge for you, remember that you are almost certain to be consistent with things. How often do you get out on the trail with your horse? There are no right or wrong answers to this question. However, I find it interesting how most riders fall into 2 categories when it comes to trail riding or hacking with their horse. They see it purely as a way to relax or unwind with their horse. And then you have a smaller 2nd group who understand that it's a great way to work with and train their horse. You can use trail riding to relax 'or' train your horse. The key is to become intentional about which option you choose on any given day when out of the arena.  Today, I want to encourage you to begin getting more intentional about your time on the trails with your horse. And to encourage you to see this as an amazing opportunity to build the connection with your horse; regardless of your focus on any specific day... So, let's first look at the benefits you can experience when you include more trail riding into your current training schedule or riding routine. And of course, being able to stand still while outside of the arena is also really important for both safety and practical reasons... It's always worth remembering that all horses are different. And some will naturally be less enthusiastic than others. However, you may need to begin varying your approach or moving the goalposts a little when it comes to your expectations and desired outcomes. Inspiring You to Become Intentional in Your Riding & Training

Are you happy with where you are right now in your riding journey? If you've been feeling a little stuck or ‘behind' regarding progress for you and your horse, today is the day you can begin changing all of that; whether you make it to the yard right now, or not. The key to feeling better about yourself as an equestrian is to take action and actually do something. However, you might find that you're at this point where the action is the issue! It simply doesn't feel fun, exciting, or interesting anymore! One of the major reasons riders stop riding is due to their riding and interactions with their horse beginning to feel ‘same-old, same-old'. Becoming intentional in your riding is a surefire remedy for this :) This is Your Responsibility As riders, we can often forget that horse riding, just like everything else in life, has a ‘honeymoon phase' to it. The initial few weeks or months where it doesn't really matter what happens, it's all good and you love it! And calling it a ‘phase' is very intentional because this season of your riding journey will come to an end.  Sooner or later. Are you guilty of getting caught up in the initial ‘novelty' of riding or having a horse, only to begin wondering what's gone wrong now that the ‘newness' is fading? No matter where you are as a rider, one of your top responsibilities is to keep the conversation and the work fresh for you and your horse. Looking for ways to weave intentional curiosity and challenges into each interaction. Finding methods and exercises that will keep you both learning and developing. Becoming intentional in your riding is the most effective way of keeping you and your horse interested in the work – and in each other.  When the Novelty Begins to Wear Off So, in order for you to become intentional in your riding, you first need something to work towards. A goal or a specific outcome of sorts. This ‘something' needs to be both achievable and realistic for you and your horse when combined with your current resources and seasons of life. What Your OTTB Believes About Contact Right Now…

Contact is something so many riders want to achieve when working with their horses. However, it's always worthwhile remembering that your horse was not born knowing how to be ridden.  This means that contact is something both of you must learn about and then refine through your work together. For many horses, the challenge is made even more difficult when they have been taught something completely different about contact because they had a previous career. Especially if that career was racing.  When working with horses, especially ex-racehorses or OTTBs, we need to understand that there will be both training and re-training involved.  And sometimes, the retraining can be a little more challenging than the training due to your horse wanting to ‘revert', especially when they feel stressed or anxious. Especially when you are working to improve or reach a specific goal or outcome. And that 'effort' can often result in you quitting!  It's normal to experience all of the excitement at the beginning of something. Sign Up for the NEW & Free Groundwork Webinar HERE https://stridesforsuccess.com/webinar/    Horses are herd animals by nature. They will always choose to be with 'their herd' when they feel uncomfortable or worried about something. And this can become a big problem for riders. This is partially due to training and development requiring both horse and rider to 'get out of their comfort zone'. Your horse's past training or experiences can also play a big role in how he responds or feels about leaving his 'herd'... And whether you need to build your horse's confidence in himself and you, or focus on retraining him regarding his expectations and yours, it will require time, patience, and consistency to overcome. And a 'herd' does not have to mean a whole field full of horses frolicking and running wild in open pastures. It can mean this, but it doesn't have to! Your horse's 'herd' can be him, his horse friend, and the donkey they share the field with. It can be the one horse he lives 'beside' most of the time, in the neighbouring stable or paddock. Or, your horse's 'herd' can also be the two goats he lives with full-time in the small paddock. Horses, being social creatures, will 'bond' with whoever they spend most of their time with. Only to realise, 15 to 20 minutes into the ride, that you are 'beat'!  Your legs are just not doing what you want them to do. Your head and shoulders feel like they weigh a tonne and self-carriage on your part is just exhausting! And as for coordination and concentration; nope and nope! If you are noticing a pattern where you're feeling physically 'done' 20 or so minutes into each of your riding sessions with your horse, you need to begin working on changing that for you and your horse. Physical fitness is an essential part of improving as a rider. You don't have to be as fit as a flea, but there is a certain level of physical abilities that are essential if you are to improve as a rider - and as a trainer for your horse. The good news is that there are a few simple key areas you can focus on in your next ride so that when you hit that point where you're feeling tired, you will have a few 'go to' exercises and practices to help you squeeze out a few more minutes of goodness in your training! Apparently not like a lot of the typical equestrians that I know!  Let me explain; recently I asked riders to let me know what challenges they were having in their riding, in the hopes I could potentially help.  And I received so many replies from riders all over the world. Great right? Except for the line of text that so many of those emails contained...  "I'm not a typical equestrian". And because of this, the rider feeling unworthy of having their question answered...  Now, there were of course different versions of this; "I'm not your average rider" or "I'm much older than other riders".  And it was the tone of all of these similar statements that really got my attention.  To me, it seemed as though because they didn't see themselves as a 'typical equestrian', their question was not worthy of being answered.  Why is it that so many riders feel like this? My goal for this episode today is to inspire you to have even better communication with your horse by improving your overall fitness in the saddle.  It really has absolutely nothing to do with your horse at all.  This is all down to you, and what you can do to become a better team leader, for "Team You and Your Horse"! Rider fitness is a topic that a lot of people seem to avoid or overlook its importance to the overall effectiveness of how the horse goes.  Many riders spend hours planning out fitness, feeding, and conditioning programs for their horse, but fail to pay attention to their own fitness. Riding is a team sport, you and your horse.  I believe it is unfair and irresponsible, for you as the rider not to try to be the best version of yourself in the saddle.  The best version of you is one that can respond quickly and effectively and this comes down to your fitness levels. Focusing on improving your riding fitness levels will have benefits in so many areas of your riding. But saying you want independent aids and working towards developing independent aids are two very different things. Especially when, as a whole, your aids are almost always used in conjunction with each other - not independently on their own... And yet, for each aid to become a useful member of your team of aids, I believe that you should first isolate each one and develop it intentionally and individually. Having one 'strong' independent aid when the rest are flapping about won't be enough to create clear conversations with your horse. Each aid must be strengthened in its own right and then be allowed to contribute to the overall team effort. And this habit will usually continue unchecked for sometimes years.  I don't believe that riders ever initially set out to ride in a way that will negatively impact things. Usually what happens is that riding a certain way either produces a certain outcome or solves a particular challenge at some point... And then turns into a habit! But, what happens if you get stuck there?  Stuck with thinking the thoughts that cause you to use or carry your body a certain way...  Usually never good things! There are lots of reasons why you might have developed less than great posture when in the saddle.  Luckily, there are also lots of ways you can begin to both identify what's going on - and how to begin remedying it in your riding. Symptoms of Poor Posture in Riding If you have started to 'slip' a little where posture is concerned in your riding, there will be signs!  Definite and obvious signs.  This is good because when you know what to look for, it makes it easier to begin to make those small tweaks that can make all the difference for you and your horse. Specifically around how, physically in the saddle, if you could expand yourself a little bit more, the difference it could have on your riding. And your mindset. Even your horse's way of going... Over the past few months, I have been running an in-person program on my farm South Africa based on Connection and Groundwork.  It has been such an amazing experience working with all these different riders We focused specifically on energy work, and becoming more aware of how we can intentionally use this to connect with our horses.  It was so much fun.  And, it got me thinking about riding and how so many riders are blocking the kind of flow with the energy in their riding, especially with their physical body.   So, in this week's episode of the Daily Strides Podcast, I would love to walk you through a few simple exercises you can do, from the saddle, to begin to identify where you are, potentially, contracting as a rider.
