"Everyone lied to me, I'm not cut out for this" is how my client, perinatal and postpartum therapist Lauren Ratliff, described her surprising transition into motherhood. That experience spurred the Mom of 3 to open a mental health practice dedicated specifically to helping women through all stages of motherhood and postpartum. Today I sit down with Lauren to learn more about the role that sleep plays in mental health, why we need to spend less time on social media, how establishing family values can keep us grounded, and of course, the a-ha moments she had working with me to help her toddler become a great sleeper! If you live in the state of Illinois, Lauren's Chicago-based practice, Matrescence Therapy, is available to you! Dive into a compelling discussion of The White Lotus Season 3, Episode 5 as hosts Dan and Charles unpeel layers of hypocrisy, unexpected revelations, and the fascinating ways characters (and people) perform. They explore the episode's subtle genius and its uncomfortable truths about privilege, values, and human behavior. In This Episode:The Unsung Role of the 'Boring' Ladies: Charles acknowledges feeling "bad for how bored I'm getting of the three ladies and their story". Dan, however, highlights their "really important" narrative function, explaining that White included them as a "normal level" to contrast with the "extreme" behaviors in the series. Dan shares how show creator Mike White's inspiration for their dynamic came from observing real-life vacationers gossiping, and Charles then states that this type of gossiping behavior "is not an exclusive behavior to ladies either".Full Moon Festival: A Tale of Two Reactions: The hosts contrast their perceptions of the Full Moon Festival. Charles expresses that it "looks so miserable to me" and he'd "be locked in my hotel room" if he were there. Dan, conversely, wishes his past Times Square New Year's Eve experience "was that much fun" as the festival appeared. Dan then recounts his own "nightmare" experience at Times Square as a college student, detailing issues with crowds, closed businesses, and the lack of bathrooms. Charles shares his strategic approach to crowds at Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, prioritizing restroom access, leading to a consensus on the value of VIP experiences. The Ratliff Family Dynamics: A Study in Fragility:Saxon's "Secret of Life": The discussion heavily focuses on the Ratliff family. Dan and Charles unpack Saxon's unsettling philosophy that "people are just waiting to be used". Dan offers a more charitable, albeit stretched, interpretation of Saxon's comment, linking it to Piper's quest for purpose at the meditation center. Charles calls this a "charitable interpretation" that is "over the top".Hypocrisy and Peer Pressure: Charles highlights Saxon's hypocrisy, noting his judgmental stance on MDMA despite being a perpetual Adderall user. Both hosts share personal insights into peer pressure. Dan admits to sometimes giving in to friends' pushes despite later resentment. Charles boasts of resisting social influence, even threatening to "ruin the night for everybody else" before doing something he didn't want to do.The Sibling Kiss & Family Taboos: They analyze the shocking sibling kiss between Lachlan and Saxon, noting Chloe as the instigator. Dan links this behavior to the family's awkward history with sex, describing it as "taboo" and "handled awkwardly". Charles expresses disbelief at crossing such boundaries, even under the influence of drugs.Parental Values & Modeling Behavior: Charles criticizes the parents' failure to instill strong values, emphasizing that children "model what you do, not what you tell them". Dan points out that kids often model behavior from online sources, such as YouTubers.Timothy's Descent and Gaitok's Dilemma: The hosts delve into Timothy's alarming spiral into suicidal ideation after stealing a gun. Charles critiques Gaitok's decision to delay immediate action, viewing it as a selfish choice to protect his job over a pending emergency. They discuss the inadequacy of Victoria's attempts to comfort Timothy by highlighting his privilege, agreeing that such responses miss the point when someone is distressed.Rick and Frank: Over-Sharing, Empathy, and Performance: Charles shares a compelling personal anecdote about meeting former addicts in Bible college who traded old addictions for a new one: constantly discussing their past. This frames their analysis of Support the show

GOD DELUSION SLIDES wk. 4 God is a good Creator and He loves His creation.“1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:2 “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? So, in essence it is your truth being deniedGod is a good Creator who does in fact love his creation“3For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject truth and chase after myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4 NLT“The death of truth in our society has created a moral decay in which every debate ends with the barroom question, ‘says who?'”-Gregory KovelThe truth Christianity asserts:Humanity was created in God's image by GodOur bodies are the temple of God“1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:2 “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? “Out quickly and on the move” — so begins a bracing new book by Ben Ratliff, the brilliant music critic and scholar. It’s titled Run the Song: Writing About Running About Listening, and it follows Ratliff’s thoughtful line of inquiry as he brings music into his daily running practice. His guiding concern is the way that movement sharpens his perceptions: “Running and listening can illuminate each other,” he writes. In this episode, recorded in front of an audience at Solar Myth, Ratliff talks about this and other ideas in conversation with Nate Chinen, a friend and former colleague at the New York Times. Evan Ratliff is an investigative journalist and podcast host. His Wired article, “The Delirious, Violent, Impossible True Story of the Zizians,” marked the culmination of a two-year deep-dive into a group of young tech radicals and their spiral into violence. Ratliff sits down with Oz to unpack how the group formed, what they believed – the parts we can decipher, at least – and how those beliefs led to alleged murder.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The third season moves the story to Thailand, building up a heavy atmosphere over eight episodes that adds a touch of the strange and ominous to the paradise-like setting. The seemingly perfect but inwardly corrupt Ratliff family from North Carolina; the abyss hidden behind the "soulmate" relationship of Rick and Chelsea; the delicately balanced friendship and lives of three girlfriends; the intertwined destinies of Season 1 returning characters Belinda and Greg/Gary - all characters' endings seem like a carefully designed karmic cycle. Compared to the previous two seasons, the third season is more of a philosophical journey about identity, desire, and redemption, drawing on the director's own research and thinking about Buddhism, skillfully incorporating concepts such as karma and the three poisons (greed, anger, and delusion) into the plot, providing us with a mirror to examine modern society and human nature. This week, Tommy is joined by the brilliant Jason Isaacs, who is on everyone’s minds after the season finale of White Lotus dropped earlier this week. Jason plays Tim Ratliff, the southern patriarch (of what many would describe as a dysfunctional family), whose life begins to quickly unravel while on vacation in Thailand. His character Tim finds out that he is being investigated by the FBI after some of his questionable business dealings gets uncovered. He hides the truth from his family, but the secret eats him alive and sets him on a path of self destruction and depression. In a sea of stand out performances, Jason is certainly at the top. He created a character that is able to say so much without saying anything at all. Today, Jason opens up about that epic season finale, what it feels like leaving The White Lotus and adjusting back to the real world, how he stepped into the extreme darkness required to play his character, why seeing himself in some of those moments even surprises him when watching them back, what he thinks about a Ratliff spin-off series, how he thinks his character’s family would have reacted to hearing that everything they own is now gone, how he went about discovering his accent for the show, what really happened between Victoria and Kate at that breakfast scene, who he would want on an all-star season of The White Lotus, what project of his he gets stopped for the most, what the real pronunciation of Lucius Malfoy is, his thoughts on the new Harry Potter series, why he never gets stopped for playing that iconic role, why he doesn’t love to answer very personal questions, and so much more. Send us a textFor this episode of Brewstilled, I'll be recapping episode 7 from HBO's The White Lotus season 3. For the episode before the coming season 3 finale, we saw another fast-paced episode that displayed hints at what will become of the characters in next week's finale. There were also signs of a revelation from Lochland in the Ratliff family story arc, Timothy continues to hide his secret that will inevitably come out. For Belinda, her problems with Gary continue as she met with Gary who made her an intriguing offer. Yet, for Belinda can she escape Gary and will he face justice? We also saw the implosion between Laurie and Jaclyn and Kate begin. For Gaitock he made a disturbing discovery that could determine his destiny in next week's finale. I'll be discussing this and more here on Brewstilled with a Sour Ale from Mortalis Brewing Co. as the beer pairing.
“40 Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt was 430 years. 41 And it came to pass at the end of the 430 years-on that very same day-it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord went out from the Land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:40-41the great escape of Exodus was not a random event, but a prophetic declarative promise for our own salvation “12 But the more they (Egyptians) afflicted them, the more they (Israelites) multiplied and grew”. Exodus 1:12Moses was born in a time when the powers at be (Pharaoh) tried to extinguish God's promised people by killing every male infant (Exodus 1:15) Like Moses, Jesus was born in a time when the powers at be (King Herod) tried to extinguish the promised messiah by killing every male infant (Matthew 2:13-16)“11Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. 12 So he looked this way and that way and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.” Exodus 2:11-12“24 By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.” Hebrews 11:24-26Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death-even death on a cross!” Phil 2:6-8“Moses tried to do the Lord's work in man's wisdom and power and it didn't work”- David Guzik“23Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. 24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian. 25 For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand.” Acts 7:23-25“In Egypt, Moses learned to be somebody; In Midian, Moses learned to be nobody”- David Guzik.“23Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. 24 So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God acknowledged them.” Exodus 2:23-25“6Moreover He said, ‘I am the God of your father-the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God. 7 And the Lord said: ‘I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. 8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey…9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.10 Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.'” Exodus 3:6-10“1Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh. For with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.' 2 And God spoke to Moses and said to him: ‘I am the LORD. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LORD I was not known to them….6 Therefore say to the children of Israel: I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 I will take you as My people and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.'” Exodus 6:1-2,6-7“Outstretched arms” means God's sovereign involvement to bring a complete deliverance and redemption“The plagues God brought against Egypt has a definite strategy and purpose. Each of them confronts and attacks a prized Egyptian deity. Not only did they bring punishment against Egypt, the plagues also answered Pharaoh's original question: Who is the Lord, that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? God used this series of plagues to glorify Himself (especially above the gods, of the Egyptians) and to give Pharaoh a chance to repent.”- David Guzik“An inscription by a Pharaoh on an ancient Egyptian temple gives the idea: ‘I am that which was, and is, and shall be, and no man has lifted my veil'. Pharaoh believed himself to be more than a man he considered himself a god, and the Egyptians agreed.”- David Guzik“ ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega', says the Lord God, ‘who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'” Rev 1:8PLAGUES vs EGYPTAIN GODS1)Water turned to blood - Hapi (God of Nile)2)Frogs from the Nile - Heket (goddess of fertility; head of frog)3)Lice from dust of earth - Geb (god over dust of the earth)4)Swarms of flies - Khepri (god of creation; head of fly)5)Death of cattle and livestock - Hathor (goddess of love; head of cow)6)Ashes turned to boils and sores - Isis (goddess of medicine and peace)7)Hail rained down in form of fire - Nut (goddess of the sky)8)Locusts sent from the sky - Seth (god of storms and disorder)9)3 days of complete/felt darkness - Ra (the sun god)10)death of the firstborn - Pharaoh (ultimate power of Egypt)“Pharaoh is grieved at the consequences of sin, but not sin itself”- David GuzikIn this Passover, “The blood of the lamb was essential to what God required. If an Israelite home didn't believe in the power of the blood of the lamb, they could sacrifice the lamb and eat it, but they would still be visited by judgement. If an Egyptian home did believe in the power of the blood of the lamb, and made a proper Passover sacrifice, they would be spared the judgement. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit www.richardhanania.comRob Henderson joins me to discuss The White Lotus, Season 3, up to episode six. There are spoilers in this conversation, as well as the rest of these show notes. We start out by discussing the latest in the Ratliff family incest dynamics. Sophie called it last month. She was right and I was wrong. We spend quite a lot of time on the extent to which Lochy manipulated his brother into what happened, and how intentional he has been in the process. I wonder whether Rob's interpretation of his character is consistent with other things we know about him. We then go on to talk about the relationship between Jackie, Kate, and Laurie. The show does an excellent job of presenting the kind of situation where a person cares very deeply about something but feels the need to keep repeating “I don't care,” which is a giveaway that they do. I note that continuously telling someone to go get laid is a way of belittling them while pretending to be on their side. Talk of the Valentin situation leads to a fascinating conversation about asymmetric aging. Older men who want to have fun can go off to a place like Thailand and simply buy what they want, while it doesn't work like that for their female counterparts. A man can be “used” for his money or material possessions and not care. But women need to be desired, and that becomes much more difficult as they get older. We of course discuss the great autogynephilia speech, which you can watch here. It was one of the most compelling soliloquies I've ever seen on television. In preparation for this conversation, Rob and I did our first serious reading on the issue, which was chapter 9 of J Michael Bailey's book on the topic. Relying on his work, we talk about why autogynephilic men lie to themselves and others about their condition. I note how Frank had a completely novel explanation for his desires, one that he had wrapped up in Buddhist philosophy, which contrasts with the more scientific sounding justifications for transgenderism normally given in the West. Rather than saying he naturally has the brain of a woman, when Frank takes the female role, he maintains his voracious sexual appetite. So he ended up telling himself a story that was consistent with a Buddhist outlook that stressed deep questions regarding the nature of the self, rather than the precepts of gender theory. By avoiding the adoption of a politically correct ideology, Frank found it easier to justify completely indulging in his appetites before becoming religious. We start off by discussing the Ratliff family and whether the incest dynamics are actually there or that was kind of a head fake at the beginning of the season. Other topics addressed are whether Mook is too perfect, the relatively positive portrayal of age gap relationships, toxic female relationships, the horrors of aging, and much more. Join The Bad Girl, The Playa, and our new co-host Tiffany Star, as we complete the POS Peterson Trilogy and examine the controversial case of renowned author Michael Peterson. Michael Iver Peterson (born October 23, 1943) is an American novelist who was convicted in 2003 of murdering his second wife, Kathleen Peterson, on December 9, 2001. After eight years, Peterson was granted a new trial after the judge ruled a critical prosecution witness gave misleading testimony. In 2017, Peterson submitted an Alford plea to the reduced charge of manslaughter. He was sentenced to time already served and freed. Elizabeth Ratliff, a friend of the Petersons, who died in Germany in 1985, had also been found dead at the foot of her staircase with injuries to the head. Her death had been investigated by both the German police and U.S. military police. An autopsy at the time of her death concluded Ratliff died from an intra-cerebral hemorrhage secondary to the blood coagulation disorder Von Willebrand's disease, based on blood in her cerebrospinal fluid and reports that she had been suffering severe, persistent headaches in the weeks leading up to her death. The coroner determined that the hemorrhage resulted in immediate death, followed by Ratliff falling down the stairs after collapsing. The Petersons had dinner with Ratliff and her daughters, and Peterson had stayed and helped Ratliff put the children to bed before going home. The children's nanny, Barbara, discovered the body when she arrived the next morning. Peterson was the last known person to see her alive. Did Peterson get off too easy? T.I.F.O.! Send us a textIn this episode of Brewstilled, I'll be recapping episode 3 of the White Lotus Season 3 from HBO. In episode 3, we saw more development with the story arcs, which showcased a study in friendship and family dynamics. For the Ratliff family, Timothys world continues to implode, and he may have made it worse in this episode. For the Laurie and Jaclyn and Kate story arc, we saw their impending implosion continue to brew and distill. For Rick and Chelsea, Rick continues to be a man of mystery. As for Belinda she and Gary who was Greg from seasons 1 and 2 are on a collision course. I'll be discussing this and more here on Brewstilled with a Hell style Lager from Holy Mountain Brewing as the beer pairing.
