The one and only Ms. Franky Marshall sits down with the band to talk about a singular career in the drinks industry. Cognac, events, behind the bar, in front of the bar, she's done it all and tells all on an episode that's very fun and very (sorry about this) frank. Plus, are there too many or too few agave? Journalists can't seem to agree, even though whatever the answer, it's bad. And, Sother's check from Anheuser-Busch finally arrives. Tune in to hear how justice sounds in real time.Photo Courtesy of Rose Callahan. Don't forget to click SUBSCRIBE and RATE the show if you can.
The podcast is taking a short break while we work on new episodes. In the meantime, we're airing some of our most memorable episodes from the first season. Metropolitan Opera Orchestra trombonist Denson Paul Pollard had an unconventional path to the stage and credits his grit, determination, and humble roots for taking him from a small town in rural Georgia to Carnegie Hall. Paul's work ethic is inspiring as he describes the jobs he's held from Iowa to Hong Kong and his daily commute from Indiana to New York City.Check out Denson Paul Pollard on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, or the web.Follow Speaking Soundly on Instagram.Follow David on Instagram. You can find out more about Artful Narratives Media on Instagram and the web.Photograph of Denson Paul Pollard by Rose Callahan. The Speaking Soundly theme song is composed by Joseph Saba/Stewart Winter and used by permission of Videohelper.Speaking Soundly was co-created by David Krauss and Jessica Handelman. Have you ever walked down the street and passed a guy so refined from tip to toe, that you can tell he subscribes to his own unique philosophy and way of living? I’m talking about a dandy. On today's episode, I chat with the man who literally wrote the book on dandyism, Nathaniel Adams (@nattyadams). In this enlightening discussion, Nathaniel explains why being a dandy isn’t a hobby reserved for only the most affluent. Dandyism is an accessible mindset – and a way of life. He shows listeners how they can adopt elements of dandyism both in their personal style, and in their homes, and explains his unique process working with gentlemen on fine tailoring and custom suiting. Nathaniel (or Natty, as is also known) has worked in the world of luxury, designer, and custom suiting for a decade, and has co-authored two books on dandyism: 'I Am Dandy: The Return of the Elegant Gentleman' and 'We Are Dandy: The Elegant Gentleman Around the World' with photographer, Rose Callahan. Both were published by Gestalten (with the latter featuring a preface by Dita Von Teese). He lives between New York and New Orleans and is currently taking national and international commissions for made-to-measure suiting and finely tailored clothing. David Zyla sits down with Rose Callahan and Natty Adams are the co-creators of the books 'I am Dandy' and 'We are Dandy' to discuss what exactly is a Dandy and the impact their books have had on a new generation. Around the world, dandies embrace style while respecting their local cultural traditions. Dandyism transcends fashion―it is a committed way of life and an obsession with elegance. It is fashion in the best sense, self-esteem through style. And, in every country, it takes a unique form as dandies draw on the local context and fashion culture to shape their looks. Through Callahans photos and Adams writing, the intricate world of each Dandy unfolds before our eyes in dazzling splendor. You can find Rose on Instagram and Twitter at @rcallahanphoto. In a world of uniformity and globalized styles, only some cultivated gentlemen retain their independence over the way they dress and live. Gestalten's new book "I am Dandy" by photographer Rose Callahan and writer Nathaniel “Natty” Adams was recently launched at the bespoke gentleman's tailor Gieves & Hawkes, No. 1 Savile Row London. The book documents the well-kept lives of 57 protagonists of contemporary dandyism with a keen, yet empathic eye. Gestalten.tv flew to Brighton, London, and New York to meet with Natty and Rose as well as a few of these extraordinary characters to learn all about their styles, attitudes and philosophies, and discover how dandyism today is a rebellious attitude and obsessive calling that can be cultivated on any budget.
