These days, it's all about having extra legs. Think about it: more legs means more fun. Especially if they're incoms! Though actually, that brings up an interesting point of discussion: the Trinity's legs are remote weapons on wires. Classically, we call those "incoms." But the show calls them "leg funnels." There's also the classic example of the Nu Gundam's "fin funnels." By the original definitions, if it's disposable it's a funnel, if it's reusable it's a bit, and if it's on a wire it's an incom. So the Nu Gundam's fin funnels are bits! Probably it is just a representation of how language evolves: over time, the distinction between "bits," "funnels," and "incoms" becomes less useful, and they simply all are called by the name of the most common form, the funnel. That's my guess. Also it's fun to shout "Funnels!" You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! The role of mobile armors in Gundam is always interesting. What does a machine gain by discarding its human-like form? It can indicate determination, or amorality, or y'know, all sorts of stuff. 00 definitely thinks using a mobile armor makes you a bad person. Don't you GN Arms me, those are attachments. The Trilobite? The Alvaaron? The Empruss? The Regnant? Even the Gadelaza? Piloted by bad people, or at least people who are currently being bad. As Dylan says, it's kinda wild we haven't covered this one already, but that's what happens when you live at the whim of the dice. The Den'an Zon may go even further with imperialist aesthetic than even the mobile suits of Zeon, but by focusing on a more German Empire WW1 thing, it ducks the Nazi comparison in favor of examining old world European aristocracy as aesthetic. It really looks like a mobile suit wearing a mobile armor like clothes, but apparently, it isn't. It's a weird face-lookin' machine with a smaller torso poking out of its mouth. As a rival machine, the Darilbalde is an interesting example of how mobile suit aesthetic has changed. Certainly, part of it is down to Ippei Gyoubu's art style, but the bulky elegance of the Darilbalde, its spears and shields, it's a far cry from the Zaku II Commander Type. What's so strange about the Aegis is how much of it is abandoned going forward in SEED. True, the Freedom has very little Strike in it, but there's the Strike Rouge and Noir, and the Impulse is a clear successor, etc. The Aegis just... happens. And then SEED tries to forget about it. But we won't. We can't. You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! If you want to find us on Twitter, Dylan is @lowpolyrobot and Six is @sixdettmar. A promise unforgotten. It was a bit of work, and it's a bit clunky, but we are here to talk about warframes as promised. The designs themselves are of course very cool, but they also prompt a difficult question: if mecha don't have to be big, and they can be organic, where is the line drawn? Is a warframe a mecha? Is a person being possessed a mecha? But in truth this is pedantry: we know a mecha when we see one, and it's as simple as that. Warframes aren't mecha. But they ARE dope. Make Good May, Week 3! This time, it's a different sort of Make Good, as we pick two requests that have been languishing unrolled on our list for some time. We start off with a First Gundam Friend that wasn't- the Agg, who never made it into the show because Char had other ideas. Then it's into Warhammer 40,000 as we look at the mecha of the Tau!
