    Ivy Insights

The Abnormal Mapping podcast is a hidden gem in the world of video game podcasts. Hosted by Em and Jackson, this show offers a unique and refreshing perspective on games that is both insightful and entertaining. While they may not play video games as much anymore, their passion for the medium shines through in every episode.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the thoughtful analysis and criticism that Em and Jackson provide. They go beyond surface-level discussions and delve deep into the themes, mechanics, and cultural impact of the games they cover. Their historical analysis gives listeners a new appreciation for older games while also challenging commonly held beliefs about gaming classics.

Additionally, Em and Jackson's chemistry as hosts is fantastic. They have a great dynamic together, with Em offering thoughtful insights and Jackson providing humor and wit. Their discussions are always engaging, and they have a knack for bringing in interesting guests to add even more depth to their conversations.

On the downside, there are times when the podcast can feel a bit niche or inaccessible to those who are not already well-versed in gaming culture. Some episodes may be focused on obscure games or delve into specific gaming subcultures that may alienate more casual listeners. However, for those who are passionate about gaming or enjoy diving deep into game analysis, this podcast is an absolute treasure trove.

In conclusion, The Abnormal Mapping podcast is a must-listen for any serious gamers or fans of game criticism. Em and Jackson's thoughtful analysis, engaging discussions, and entertaining banter make each episode a joy to listen to. Whether you're looking to discover new games or gain new perspectives on old favorites, this podcast delivers on all fronts. Give it a listen - you won't be disappointed!

We're playing two not very classics of their respective genres today as we go back to the back half of the 90s to play an early action game and a relatively early 3D platformer. We're kind of split on which game we prefer along lines I expect you'd predict, but we both had a pretty good time with both games anyway! Also, before that, Jackson gives the MOTHER of all segment 1 updates. At 16:15 or so until 1:15:30 Jackson's Audacity file broke and we had to use the backup. We keep gaming as we tackle a bunch of small games in a classic grab bag and talk through a whole mess of games that are interesting and worthwhile but often have one or two extremely obvious parts that hold it back. Some of them are reasonable critiques, some of them are just the unfortunate realities of game production, some are just The Times.
