Alright, alright, get your jokes out of the way. This manta ray lookin' dude is one of SEED's design successes, so I won't have you teasing them too hard. Expect the usual SEED issues- line art errors, slightly nonsensical weapon details, an element here or there that would improve the whole design if it were simply removed- but the GOOhN's alright with us.
I didn't PLAN to make this the Victor Show. Sometimes these things just... happen. Hey, if we're gonna do card game designs, we should do like. Netrunner, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. And Magic I suppose, I'll be honest, I don't really care about Magic. I did in high school, and it's not like I've "grown out of it" or anything, I've just lost interest. But maybe it has some cool mecha cards. That could potentially sway me. You can find a video version of this podcast for free on Scanline Media's Patreon! We're back with the next chapter of our Metroid Prime 4: Beyond journey! This week we're approaching the end as we discuss the last major area in the game: the Great Mines. We discuss everything about the area from the art direction, level design, puzzles, the greater emphasis on combat, including some of the unique gameplay hooks that accompany it as well as an absolutely KILLER boss fight that left everyone impressed! We also go over the storyline of the mines regarding the Galactic Federation Troopers that join us and discuss our opinions of how that's handled. All of this, plus a short discussion on the Mech Parts and Green Energy Crystals which make up Metroid Prime 4's version of the series' mainstay endgame fetch quest. Come let us know what your thoughts are, and beware: there are spoilers for the Great Mines and the late game fetch quests! Next week, it's time for the grand finale as we enter the point of no return and discuss the game's last area and final boss. This is a big one, so don't miss out and keep it locked-on at Omega! It's fun to discover whole worlds you previously knew nothing of. The listener whose request we rolled this week made the request a few years ago at this point, and sent along some art of the cards they were interested in. Command & Conquer (C&C) is a real-time strategy (RTS) video game franchise created and originally developed by Westwood Studios and currently owned by Electronic Arts. The first game was one of the earliest of the RTS genre, itself based on Westwood Studios' influential strategy game Dune II and introducing trademarks followed in the rest of the series. This includes full-motion video cutscenes with an ensemble cast to progress the story, as opposed to digitally in-game rendered cutscenes. Westwood Studios was purchased by Electronic Arts in 1998 and closed down in 2003.Archie Comics' Sonic Quest: The Death Egg Saga: Book Three00:00 Intro00:39 Sonic Quest: The Death Egg Saga: Book Three: Over Easy Part 114:46 Sonic Quest: The Death Egg Saga: Book Three: Over Easy Part 217:35 Sonic Quest: The Death Egg Saga: Book Three: Over Easy Part 335:18 Sonicgrams44:59 Outro-----Gotta Talk Fast is an oral review of Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog. I should dial back the Gundam AGE hate. Even its titular Gundam line has a few winners, and the AGE Gundams are the worst designs in the series. The other mobile suits, there are some clear winners! I'd count the G-Bouncer among their number. And it's not fair to hold the writing against them. ...Mostly. I'm sorry, the Freedom DOES have to suffer for the crime of the Rainbow Beams of Peace. It's time for Peche & Pals! The UC Engage art style is often a bit off-putting to us, but we're always here for tinkering with existing designs to make new ones. Shuttles, shuttles, shuttles. Oh, sure, we do some cleanup, and some Kelvinverse designs, but mostly this episode is dedicated to little boxes for like two to twenty people. It's a bit of a break to our format, because we usually don't give machines with the same design new entries just because they have a new name. But c'mon, live a little. I guess I would describe the Radiant Wave Surger as having both "the power" and "the touch." And it certainly gets "ready for battle." But can it "beat the Black Knight" if it itself IS a Black Knight? Y'know, stupid question. On two fronts. First of all, of course a person can always defeat themselves. There's no identity crisis to be had here, because this show has long since extended its reach past just mecha... but these machines don't have pilots! They are remote controlled though, which is certainly a kind of piloting. It's a pedantic distinction, but it can be fun to consider how the categorization works out. Welcome to the fifth season of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's September, so that means it's time for our “Mechtember” series, where we cover movies involving all things robotic!! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest Bill Mueller discuss one of the strangest Terminator mockbusters, 1990's Class of 1999!1 million Megabytes! Robo-spanking! Impressive run-down locations and production design! Amazing costumes, including a coat that would make Prince jealous! Violent teenage gang members in a lawless land still choosing to go to school for some reason! A school principal endangering his own daughter! Fun pyrotechnics and stunts! Weapons hidden in stubby arms! Green robot fuel! An early Nine Inch Nails needle drop! A kitchen cabinet full of WD-40! Great (but silly) robot FX from Short Circuit's Eric Allard! A script that feels like two different movies squished together! A mostly unknown cast with the exceptions of Malcolm McDowell, Pam Grier, and Stacy Keach rocking one of the craziest rat tails you've ever seen! Grade A schlock with a fantastic third act, from the director of Commando and accomplished cinematographer Mark Irwin, this tale of technology and education gone wrong plays like George Jetson's worst nightmare! In addition, everyone briefly chats about their mutual enjoyment of James Gunn's Superman, while Bill talks about Brad Pitt's F1, and Alex shares his spoiler-free thoughts on Weapons, Liam Neeson's The Naked Gun, Nobody 2, The Conjuring: Last Rites, Caught Stealing, and the French thriller, Night Call! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends! The Death Don't Do Fiction podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris and Tim Gardiner, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from two filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Twitter, Bluesky, or Letterboxd @actionharris. This episode's guest, Bill Mueller, can be found on Bluesky. Tim can't be found on social media because he doesn't exist. We made a promise four years ago. ...Well, to be honest, it was more a proposal than a promise. I didn't exactly feel oathbound. Which to me makes this more important. We weren't bound by obligation. We just really wanted to have Grant (mynameisgrant.bsky.social) back on the show, and talk about the meat mecha of the Aura Road. And y'know? I'm so glad we did. We don't know how AIs think or why they do what they do. Or at least, we don't know much. That fact is only becoming more troubling as AIs grow more capable and appear on track to wield enormous cultural influence, directly advise on major government decisions, and even operate military equipment autonomously. We simply can't tell what models, if any, should be trusted with such authority.Neel Nanda of Google DeepMind is one of the founding figures of the field of machine learning trying to fix this situation — mechanistic interpretability (or “mech interp”). The project has generated enormous hype, exploding from a handful of researchers five years ago to hundreds today — all working to make sense of the jumble of tens of thousands of numbers that frontier AIs use to process information and decide what to say or do.Full transcript, video, and links to learn more: https://80k.info/nn1Neel now has a warning for us: the most ambitious vision of mech interp he once dreamed of is probably dead. He doesn't see a path to deeply and reliably understanding what AIs are thinking. The technical and practical barriers are simply too great to get us there in time, before competitive pressures push us to deploy human-level or superhuman AIs. Indeed, Neel argues no one approach will guarantee alignment, and our only choice is the “Swiss cheese” model of accident prevention, layering multiple safeguards on top of one another. But while mech interp won't be a silver bullet for AI safety, it has nevertheless had some major successes and will be one of the best tools in our arsenal. For instance: by inspecting the neural activations in the middle of an AI's thoughts, we can pick up many of the concepts the model is thinking about — from the Golden Gate Bridge, to refusing to answer a question, to the option of deceiving the user. While we can't know all the thoughts a model is having all the time, picking up 90% of the concepts it is using 90% of the time should help us muddle through, so long as mech interp is paired with other techniques to fill in the gaps. This episode was recorded on July 17 and 21, 2025.Interested in mech interp? "Neofalia," you see, is the name of the research institute where this machine (and others) are built. And it's called "Tyrant" because it issues orders to machines that follow its commands, its "Slaves." And it's called "Sword" both because it has a sword, but also in the sort of grand metaphorical sense where you might refer to any instrument of violence, sapient or not, as your "sword." And they use "of" because... actually hang on, you probably knew that one. If not the others as well. Can you tell I didn't have a good idea for show notes? It's his birthday, so we're letting TL take over the wheel -- or the cockpit, as it were -- to walk us through a retrospective of sorts about the various genres of mech video games, inspired by this week's release of Super Robot Wars Y. From fighters to tactical RPGs and everything in between, if you like games about giant robots you pilot and punch things with, this top 5 is for you. After that, we cover the other new releases this week, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, then offer up a few more thoughts on things we've been playing like Sword of the Sea, Mafia: The Old Country, and Death Stranding 2. Question of the Week: Which famous mech from pop culture would win in an ultimate mech battle royale and why? In my memory, when I think about Gundam 00, I forget the Ahead ever happened. It papers over everything with GN-XIIIs and Ga-family machines. Now, this is both fair and unfair. The fair part is, the Ahead sucks. It's dumb and bad. The unfair part is, almost no design ENTIRELY sucks. It still has some cool elements, not to mention cool variants. In this video, we explore the grimdark roots of Battletech's history, beginning with Cold War geopolitics, the collapse of the USSR, the Outer Reaches Rebellion, and the foundation of the Great Houses that would shape centuries of interstellar conflict.Discover how the Terran Hegemony, the Cameron dynasty, and pivotal events like the Outer Reaches Rebellion, the development of the first BattleMech (the Mackie), and the political machinations of Stefan Amaris and Aleksandr Kerensky set the stage for the Battletech universe. More than it needs women, Mars needs tanks. And honestly? The Mars Tank ISN'T one. It's a cool machine, and a name that captures the imagination. But it's not a TANK. Since we're doing our second IBO design in a row, let me just say... I really don't think the IBO Gekko movie is ever coming out. Or Iron-Blooded Orphans G or however they brand it. It's an adaptation of a failed game, coming from Sunrise (well, Bandai Namco filmworks, but let's not get pedantic), a production company that can't ship an anime to save its life. Literally, it can't. If the company was gonna run out of money tomorrow they would just have to accept it because they don't know how to make anime anymore. Hathaway 2? Yeah, that'll happen. The first did very well and its sequel is eagerly anticipated. But this show based on a game that seems like it kinda sucked? I imagine that's just gonna fade into the background. In this episode, special guest Sierra joins host Bethanie to discuss the Stars Above short story The Little Android. The Little Android SummaryMech 6.0 is an android who is quite different from the rest… She is experiencing romantic feelings for one of the hardware engineers called Dataran. When he has an accident and falls in a tank full of oil, Mech 6.0 is determined to save him even if it destroys her metal body… And Dataran survives thanks to her help. Mech 6.0 is taken away to her mechanics where they discover a glitch in her programming that makes her unstable. They want to shut her down, but Mech 6.0 doesn't agree and decides to escape. It seems like she has done the impossible and fallen in love.It is soon after that she manages to cross paths with renown mechanic, Linh Cinder, who though she is unable to fix Mech6.0, is able to install her personality chip into a new body. The only catch is that this new body, that of an escort droid, has no voice.Mech6.0, now known as Star, is able to return to her hanger and is now seen as a person rather than a piece of technology. The tension climaxes as Star confronts her limits. She realizes that her existence may mean sacrificing her happiness for Dataran's and she chooses sacrificing, ending her time on Earth with an eternity among the stars.
