This is our ninth SD Gundam episode, and I've already made all the jokes or cute wordplay. And some of y'all are like "oh were those supposed to be clever, before?" so I'm REALLY on thin ice. What I'll say then is that there's a real shortage of documentation of our final unit in this ep, and I am proud of us for being the ones to step up and do the work when others aren't. Don't get a big head, folks. It just makes for a bigger target. Unless it's sufficiently up-armored, in which case maybe it's fine? Then again, I believe the "Danger Melon" that we're discussing today ended up in a fight against Chirico Cuvie, and such fights kinda only go the one way. But don't spoil for me, I don't actually know the answer to how it went! I guess it's POSSIBLE someone beat Chirico. Once. And then lost the rematch. China just dropped a real-life transforming mech suit you can actually buy -- Unitree Robotics unveiled the GD01, a $574K-$650K manned mecha that switches from upright bipedal walking to full quadruped mode for rough terrain, weighs 500kg with you strapped in the open cockpit, and even smashed through a loose cinderblock wall in the demo like it was nothing. Yeah the founder hopped in and piloted it himself while the rest of us watch sci-fi become a civilian transportation toy -- because nothing screams "future is here" like dropping half a mil on your own personal Gundam that can go from Iron Man stance to robo-horse when the sidewalk ends. Gundam 00's Human Reform League are not about flashy designs. They're very utilitarian. And y'know? The (Part 1) up there is a combination of my inherent anxiety-driven pedantry and a bit of a goof. I... don't think we'll ever do more Star-vaders. We probably shouldn't have done them in the first place. I goofed. But you never know, and so I feel the need to leave room. But in so doing, it's also like putting a gun on the table. It's a threat. Whether that be by honing their weapons, considering what sort of body they want to ride into battle, or keeping themselves emotionally healthy by spending time with loved ones. Gundam SEED is really just a tide of gundams. Like, whatever you think about the show's quality, you can't deny that it just introduces so, so many new gundams, significantly more than previous shows. And they can't all be winners, especially when you have legendary designer Kunio Okawara chained to his desk as he begs to be allowed to go home. No, Okawara. No. The episode comes out in three days, we need you to design five more gundams. Of course we don't care if they're any good, just get it done. The Raider is not his best work. As similar as Starfleet's designs are at first glance, not all of the Federation's ships are created equal. And I'm sorry, but we just don't care for the Intrepid-class starship, or its most iconic representative, the USS Voyager, all that much. The armor? Great. Love the armor. The fingers, oh. Those are fantastic. And great colors all around. But, uh, what are you swingin there, bud? Are you swinging... a weapon that's been broken for a few hundred years? That wouldn't be that hard to fix, at least by giant robot standards. Hmm. Hmm. I see. Well. We all make choices. „Sleduji některé převaděčské bandy na sociálních sítích a ty se nijak moc netají tím, co dělají. Dominantně inzerují své služby přes sociální sítě a zdá se, že jim to vychází a že se nebojí toho, že budou chyceny. Evropské bezpečnostní složky mají v tomto ohledu obrovský dluh,“ říká analytik Robert Kotzian v rozhovoru pro pořad Kupředu do minulosti. 2. díl, 24.02.2026, www.RadioUniversum.cz
Entrust your fate to the big, mechanical hands of the cards. Listener CrossZeta made a very efficient request, because we'll probably be rolling Cardfight Vanguard designs for years without rolling out (given that they're only a percentage of the requests anyway). Then again, maybe not- it's fun to tackle one-offs, but we're trying to tackle lines of robo, and there may not be that many lines within the game. Time will tell! It's been a while since we've had an episode about a single machine with no variants or upgrades. And one so deserving of them, too! I get that the appeal of the Bael is elegant simplicity. But the Bael exists! Let's have a Bael High Mobility, or a Bael Cannon, or a Bael Full Armor! I know that's not how IBO designs are built or named. I don't care. I just like seeing cool designs be iterated on, and I am being deprived of that. This is bullying, they're bullying me. It's not our first tokusatsu mecha, but it might be our most charming. King Joe (great name, by the way) is coming at us straight from Ultraman, a combining robot that proved an instant hit. I love the way having to have a real dude in a suit affects the design of toku robots. Personality is an inevitable consequence. Sometimes you do it for the boys. Sometimes you do it for the 'Gram. And sometimes? You do it For the Barrel. Today we discuss the designs of a Gundam AU that, I don't wanna tell tales outta school, but might possibly have been so badly written that its mechanical designer walked away in the middle of the project. It's a shame, because that designer was clearly one of the few parts of this project actually killing it. I think I forgot to say it on air- maybe I didn't? It feels kinda familiar? But this is a double request, from listeners muffinlord and Gaiseric! A big thank you to the Patreon creator Byston Well Stories, who can also be found on Bluesky, for your hard work translating For the Barrel and uploading scans of it, we really appreciate it! Alright, alright, get your jokes out of the way. This manta ray lookin' dude is one of SEED's design successes, so I won't have you teasing them too hard. I didn't PLAN to make this the Victor Show. Sometimes these things just... happen. Hey, if we're gonna do card game designs, we should do like. Netrunner, and Yu-Gi-Oh!. And Magic I suppose, I'll be honest, I don't really care about Magic. I did in high school, and it's not like I've "grown out of it" or anything, I've just lost interest. We're back with the next chapter of our Metroid Prime 4: Beyond journey! This week we're approaching the end as we discuss the last major area in the game: the Great Mines. We discuss everything about the area from the art direction, level design, puzzles, the greater emphasis on combat, including some of the unique gameplay hooks that accompany it as well as an absolutely KILLER boss fight that left everyone impressed! We also go over the storyline of the mines regarding the Galactic Federation Troopers that join us and discuss our opinions of how that's handled. All of this, plus a short discussion on the Mech Parts and Green Energy Crystals which make up Metroid Prime 4's version of the series' mainstay endgame fetch quest. Come let us know what your thoughts are, and beware: there are spoilers for the Great Mines and the late game fetch quests! Next week, it's time for the grand finale as we enter the point of no return and discuss the game's last area and final boss. This is a big one, so don't miss out and keep it locked-on at Omega! I should dial back the Gundam AGE hate. Even its titular Gundam line has a few winners, and the AGE Gundams are the worst designs in the series. The other mobile suits, there are some clear winners! It's his birthday, so we're letting TL take over the wheel -- or the cockpit, as it were -- to walk us through a retrospective of sorts about the various genres of mech video games, inspired by this week's release of Super Robot Wars Y. From fighters to tactical RPGs and everything in between, if you like games about giant robots you pilot and punch things with, this top 5 is for you. After that, we cover the other new releases this week, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, then offer up a few more thoughts on things we've been playing like Sword of the Sea, Mafia: The Old Country, and Death Stranding 2. Question of the Week: Which famous mech from pop culture would win in an ultimate mech battle royale and why?
