Unshakeable and Unbreakable Luke 6:46-49

CrossRoads Church Making and maturing disciples together as a family
Welcome to Christ Community Church of Wilmington NC. We are committed to teaching the Bible, transforming lives, and touching our world.
We've all experienced circumstances in life that cause us concern, make us a worry, or maybe even truly shake us. So, how do we live a life that is unshakeable when circumstances are difficult? How do we build a solid foundation so that we are able to stand firmly? This week, as we dive back into the book of Luke, we take a look at scripture where Jesus teaches us, as Christians, what it truly means to build our life on a firm foundation and how to live out an unshakeable life each and every day. Jesus is quite clear in His Word that how we build our life and on what foundation will determine how we respond in difficult circumstances.

Jesus closes out the Sermon on the Plain with a challenge. It is not stated as such, but implicit in His words is the challenge to put what He has said into practice. Failing to do so is like foolishly building one's house on the ground. Doing so is like wisely building one's house on a solid rock. Be a wise builder.

Ernest Hemingway once wrote, “The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places.” We all face storms and struggles of life that have a way of revealing our foundations. Pastor Chris Kipp teaches from the words of Jesus in Luke 6:46-49 on the nature of true strength. He reminds us that our strength is directly tied to our foundation. This recording is from the Renaissance Church livestream which aired on July 5th, 2020. www.ren-church.org #alloflifealltheearth

What does it look like to build your life on the Rock?
Last Sunday, Pastor John spoke about our financial stewardship. As we look ahead to the ministry of this congregation in 2019, how are we being called to support God's work in Sonoma County and the world? We look forward to what God has planned for FPC and how we can work to fulfill His plan.
Where does your foundation lie?
It's "two-for-one" Sunday! Two messages combine to delve into the issue of how seriously do we take the words of Jesus.
We spend our lives looking for the answers to life’s questions, but maybe we’re missing what’s been right in front of us all along. Instructions that stand the test of time. Find the answer you’ve been looking for as we examine Jesus' parables and discover the uncomplicated truth of history’s greatest genius.

We are living in a world that puts value on labels. What clothes do you wear? What purse do you carry? We let a label dictate a status symbol. We let labels define who we are. Some people use Lord as a label. They believe that if they invoke that label, they will attain a certain status. Our text questions why why they were using the term label, when the lifestyle does not match that label. If He is going to be Lord, we must allow Him to be Lord by doing what He asks us to do. The young ruler came to Jesus and ask what he must do to have eternal life. Jesus told him to sell all he had, give it to the poor, and to follow. The young man went away sad because he had much. He was wanting to call jesus Lord, but not do what He was ask to do. The young man had kept the commandments and wanted to claim the label, but he was not willing to live the lifestyle. What is the difference between label and lifestyle? Our text uses a parable to demonstrate that a label is built on a strong foundation so that we can withstand the storms of life. When the storm of life blows, it reveals who has a life built on a label and who has a life built on a lifestyle. Is Lord just a label?

In Luke's Sermon on the Plain, Jesus weaves a parable into his teaching that illustrates how hearing his words requires doing. Even calling Jesus "Lord, Lord" is not alone enough, Jesus calls for an active response.

To encourage people to focus on steady and careful obedience. There is a right way to develop leadership and influence; to be faithful with your current responsibilities and stewardships. The future will grow out of what you are building in the present. Build carefully on the perspective given in the Bible.
