At the climax of James' sermon, he accuses many in the church for being double minded and refusing to walk in Christian wholeness. The reason? We are divided by desires.
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7 NLT-SE)

In our today's teaching (while continuing in the book of James of our "Faith & Action" series) Pastor Ben talks about the spiritual warfare that we face every single day. To those who don't have a relationship with God, these attacks are usually described as "life is not perfect" or "the world is a cold, hard, and lonely place." Actually, the problem is not the world, or globe (which was created by God), rather it is the spiritual warfare that resides within the world. Without a relationship with God, we are considered "open game" for the enemy and his demons. On the other hand, when we DO have a relationship with God, the scales are removed from our eyes so that we can know when the enemy is attacking and what to expect. As believers, we already know that no matter what kind of attacks we are under form the enemy, God will fight for us, and be victorious. Have you done your daily maintenance check on your relationship with God? If you need help in doing so, we (Calvary Chapel Lubbock) are here to help you get back on track. *Three types of wars that we need to be aware of: 1. War with the flesh 2. War with the world 3. War with the devil *Q: "How do we draw near to God? A: "By confessing and humbling ourselves to God." Loving one another well requires the willingness to engage in uncomfortable conversations for the purpose of reconciliation.

James chapter 4 hits heavy on the world, and the heart. God says that He wants our whole heart, and we live in a world that is constantly competing with our heart. If our hearts aren’t focused on Him, then it can cause pride, which leads to conflict, which ultimately leads to a life that is self centered and not Jesus centered. James talks about how to set the eyes of your heart on Godly things, and how to keep the main thing the main thing!

Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, seeks to be a church that's Becoming Community in Christ. Assistant Pastor John Song takes us into chapter 4 of James. He encourages us to let the ordinary means of grace, as we've examined this summer, turn us into Christians not critics. Let us not be petty but peacemakers; for we are not in competition with other believers because our victory is already secure!

In this message, Pastor Scott Savage unpacks James 4:1-12. He talks about being wholeheartedly committed to Christ and what that kind of commitment looks like in the midst of spiritual battles.

Sunday Morning Sermon
How much time do you spend avoiding conflict? Where do the conflicts in our lives come from? In James 4:1-12, James confronts our split personalities and challenges us to choose to serve and love God instead of live a conflicted life.

Since relationships are about being other-centered, the self-centeredness of sin will inevitably subvert God's design.
We have all experienced conflict in many areas of our lives. Be it at home within the family, with your spouse, on the job, or with friends, it is a reality that we live with. All too often, we experience conflict within the church too. These conflicts do not represent Christ well. So, how do understand conflict and what hope do we have of reducing it? Listen in as we continue in the book of James in our series, "Putting your Faith to work."

Drawing closer to God makes our life, will and desires line up with what He has created us to be. We fulfill His expectations and receive His blessings. The world we live in seeks to strain our relationship with God, while Jesus came to strengthen it! The results are dependent on our will! Sermon Notes @ http://bible.c/events/446091

Interim Pastor Chris Weldon continues the series on Authentic Faith. There is an ongoing spiritual war for our worship.
After rebuking the readers so heavily for their shortcomings, the pastor James offers the balm of "more grace" for their wounds. We should all desire God to bless us with more grace in our lives. While also, we must submit ourselves to God, resisit the devil, and draw nigh to God for the intimate communion that we desire with our Lord.
Did you know there are two kinds of pride mentioned in the bible? There is the good kind of pride such as self respect, dignity and satisfaction in a job well done. Then there is the bad kind of pride, conceit and arrogance.

There is a war that wages inside of us between our selfish desires and pursing God’s desires. So when we ask God to meet our needs, He doesn’t answer because our motives are all wrong. James tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord and He will grant the desires of our hearts. So how do we delight in our Lord? Listen to today’s message to find out!
What causes conflict within the church? In this passage, James teaches how the adulterous heart seeks its own pleasure above God's and in opposition to others.
Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.
Part 3 The Book of James, dealing with our pride
Today we are going to see James continue to challenge us to a faith in gear, but we are going to hear a very 'Paul-esque' faith in grace. Lets read James 4:1-12.
This morning we continue through our series in James. Today we turn our attention to James words about the primary friendship in our lives: friendship with the world vs. friendship with God. James shows us this morning what friendship with the world looks like and what it leads to and conversely he shows us what friendship with God looks like. The challenge this morning is that as we grow in our sanctification that we continually learn what it means to live as friends with God and to continually walk away from our friendship with the world!
Are you becoming who you were or are you becoming who you are in Christ? Only through his death we can reach our full potential.

Beginning a new series on Submission and Authority we start off looking at the source of many problems in Israel and that cause carries over so much today. It is all summed up in one verse that is repeated in the book of Judges.

Do you wonder why we experience so many conflicts in our lives? James 4:1-12 gives us a clear explanation of what happens in our hearts and minds when conflict arises. We will find out what the root of the problem is as we study these practical, Biblical truths for everyday life.

How do we handle conflict? How could we handle it differently if the gospel and the Grace of Jesus were more fully a part of the structure of our lives and relationships? We all face conflict; how might it be different for us because of who Jesus is?

The complexity of our world often leaves us struggling to figure out what is right and what is wrong. Making matters worse is that sometimes when we do that which culture declares right, we are left feeling as though we did wrong. This series of sermons on James presents Christian ethics according to the book and calls all who hear it to a different, better way of life.
