What can I say that hasn't already been said? There's a temptation because it's the last show to try to share something that's the most valuable thing, that summarises the last 200 weeks of my life. Then perspective hits and I realise, that's nothing I can really say in “one final episode” to summarise two-hundred weeks of conversations, content creation, Monday deadlines, audio editing, posting on social media, laughs, workshops, travel, Covid, etc.  Some key things:Yes! I will be starting something new, I'm still working my way and deciding what that is. Oooh… this episode is a watershed moment. I make a big announcement. Back in episode 50, I gave the podcast microphone to my colleague and friend Sean Lavin to interview on the show, to reflect on what i'd learnt both personally and professionally from the show. It's now 147 episodes (and weeks!) later. I think I've grown up a little. My perspective has changed, so I thought it was a fitting moment to sit back into the guest seat and reflect on that journey, while also sharing a pretty massive update (from my perspective!) about the First Time Facilitator podcast. This time, I invited a listener to jump into the host seat. When I was planning this episode and releasing “the news”, I wanted to pull it back to my intention of starting the podcast in February 2018.  Back then, I really was a first time facilitator, working in Organisational Development but pulled in to lead workshops with little experience - desperately wanting to get better at creating engaging experiences and group dialogue. So,  I handed the microphone to a listener who demonstrates the values of this show: An energy and willingness to reach out, a growth mindset, someone willing to say yes, accept opportunities..I'm delighted to announce your host for today's episode is Jan Szmanda. Jan is a facilitator, L&D geek, board gamer, new puppy parent, and long time FTF listener. Based out of Madison WI in the US, he currently has the privilege of running workshops on leadership development and team effectiveness and is excited to continue growing in the field of organizational development. You can find him most active on Twitter and LinkedIn and he'd love to connect with you! Jan's enthusiasm about this podcast shines through, he's listened to the show since 2019 and taken great  notes over the years. Most importantly, he's taken ideas from this show, tried things out.As I mentioned, there's a big announcement in this podcast and if you'd like to help me in celebrating 200 episodes of First Time Facilitator, I'd really love to get your voice on the show.To share what First Time Facilitator has taught you, has inspired from you, or anything really - head on over to leannehguhes.com/200 to share what the show has done for you!About today's host: Jan SzmandaJan Szmanda is a facilitator, L&D geek, board gamer, new puppy parent, and long time FTF listener. A new week means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast, and this week's show was filled with explosive moments as the fallout from #ChumGate continued despite the fact that Jay is vacationing in Finland.   To start off this week's episode, the boys jumped right in by revisiting last week's #ChumGate drama, but rather than letting Chalmers and Jay yell at each other for 20 minutes again, they decided to bring in a character witness (Sean Lavin) to settle things once and for all. After running through a brief history of the Angler Cup and how things came together, both Chalmers and Lavin recounted their version of the events that kicked off last week's fight, including the definition of chumming and sacrificing minnows for the gods. Back to business, the guys got into some Oilers talk with a look the upcoming season and why people should be excited in spite of history suggesting they should. As always, Wanye and Baggedmilk had plenty of reasons to be drinking the Kool-Aid while Chalmers left the conversation still yearning. Next up, the guys walked through the Real Life Football Pool with a recap of the winners, losers, and general updates to keep everyone in the loop. Finally, the guys end off this week's podcast with a breakdown of all things Big Brother, including predictions on who will win now that the season has whittled down to only five houseguests.

Here we are at episode 21 and wow - what a journey it has been thus far!  This one’s a bit different as I’ve only switched on one microphone this week, recording my first ever solo episode of Beneath the Surface.  Now that we’ve surpassed the 20 episode mark, I thought it’s worth spending some time reflecting on the great conversations and acknowledging the amazing guests that have joined me on the show thus far.  Primarily focusing on the key take-aways from each episode, I also talk through how these conversations came to be and elaborate on the stories that surround them. After reflecting on the journey to date, I then discuss the future of the show and share a tweak that I’m making to the format of Beneath the Surface.   Thanks for tuning in, and a huge thank you to: Leanne Hughes Matt Linney Nikki McMurray Peter Finn Mick Hoyt Andrew O’Brien Tracey Marwood Benny McKenna Warren James Sam Parker Linda Fragomeni Liam Byrne Regan Jones Ryan and Jack Kain Barratt Therese Lardner Daniielle Alexis James Cowin Angela Lavin Dani Tamati

Are you contemplating a career change? Does the mining and resources sector excite you? Do you love to bring the best out in people? If these are some of the questions you're asking yourself then you'll want to find the answers in our fantastic chat with Sean Lavin. For the first time ever we interviewed a fellow podcaster, where Sean shared his fascinating story from hotel operations through to the eclectic world of mining operations.  In 2017, Sean transitioned from the seat of a haul truck and into a graduate program in the vast discipline of human resources.  Today, he’s a Talent Management and Development Advisor for one of Australia's largest mining services providers. His insights were fantastic where he shared advice on making career changes to follow your passions, studying whilst working full-time and how he enjoys getting the best out of people in one of Australia's pillar economies. Don't forget to listen out for all the tips and tricks he gives to young professionals out there looking for employment or internship opportunities. We hope you enjoy our chat with Sean! This is an industry that certainly goes through peaks and troughs. Preparing a safety net outside of the industry, should be an option, should things go south.   Each Wednesday, join me, Peter Finn, managing director of FACE Contracting, as I navigate the ups and downs of the mining industry with forward-thinking professionals from all walks of life. If you're involved in the mining industry in any way – whether you're a lifer or a high-school student looking to make the leap – Full Production is the podcast for you.  On today's episode of Full Production Sean Lavin joins me as my guest. Unlike so many of us, Sean's career didn't begin with the mining industry, it was the hotel and services sector that initially caught his attention. After leaving the University of Queensland in 2004, he hopped straight into the role of Duty Manager and Human Resources Manager at Mirvac hotel. Suddenly, along came the Australian mining boom, and in 2011 Sean changed tact - leaving hospitality behind him and shifting towards a life as a heavy machinery operator. After obtaining a Master's in HR in early 2017, he transferred internally to the graduate program to work within the corporate Human Resources department. As of March 2019, Sean has also joined the podcasting clan and started his very own podcast series, Beneath The Surface. His podcast is centred on one-on-one conversational interviews, giving a platform to those at the coal face, so they can tell their stories from within the mining industry. In this episode, we get to the heart of the mining family, and discuss the inner workings of the strong relationships that develop. We also talk about the other options that lie before us, and how we should all have a nest egg that we can crack into during times of uncertainty. Also within this episode Sean's hospitality background How work satisfaction is down to your comrades Seeking options outside of mining Sean's education and how it has shaped his career Why it's important to get support from those closest to you Empowering workers to go above and beyond The perceptions of mining Introducing Sean's podcast Beneath The Surface Why we should be sharing our knowledge   Links: Sean Lavin: LinkedIn Sean Lavin : Website Sean Lavin: Instagram Beneath The Surface Podcast
