Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed living on a cruise ship, the death of happy hour, Oilers vs. Kings, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Jay's Australian stock pact with Dooks, communication via random DMs, and anything else that happened to be on everyone's mind. Talking about social media made the guys wonder if it would be fun to live on a cruise ship. As you'll hear, the start of the Thursday episode of Real Life was all over the map.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys looked ahead at Game 6 and what the team needs to do to close out this series. After earning the chance to close out a fourth consecutive first-round win over the Kings, the Oilers must come up with their best game of the series to punch their way through to the next round. From playoff Mattis Janmark coming through in the clutch to Evan Bouchard's redemption, to Calvin Pickard locking things down, there are plenty of reasons to be bullish about the team's chances.Looking around the rest of the NHL, the guys discussed the rest of the series and how the storylines from the first round continue to make this the best round of the playoffs. They then discussed what's happening around the city, and now that cell phones are in everybody's hand, the ability to experience a playoff run becomes so much easier. As you'll hear, the boys are excited about Game 6 and how much fun the city will be if the Oilers get through to the second round for the 4th consecutive season.
Nothing is better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to recap the weekend and start your week. On the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys discussed the Oilers' series comeback, Evan Bouchard's redemption, the NFL draft, and much more. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by looking at the Oilers' miraculous comeback in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Kings. While neither Games 3 nor 4 were masterpieces by Edmonton, the resilience they showed to come back on both nights was as extraordinary as it was concerning that they could keep doing it. As much as the comebacks were thrilling, wouldn't it be nice to have the boys find an early lead and be able to keep it for 60 minutes?Diving into the Game 4 win, the guys discussed the Oilers' comeback win and how Sunday's victory was as electric as it gets in the post-season. Starting with the way the Oilers got better as the game wore on, the guys wondered why it takes the boys being down by a goal or more before they're able to get themselves going.Changing gears, the guys looked at the NFL draft from this past weekend, and how the Cleveland Browns snagged Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round even though some people — his old man, specifically — were hyping him up as a top prospect. Since Jay is a massive Browns fan, everyone wanted to know whether or not he'd be purchasing a new jersey to celebrate his team's new toy. From there, Chalmers also let the boys know about a prank call involving Sanders and how the kid's dad ended up taking shrapnel as a result.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed The Last of Us, Wednesday's Game 2 loss, where the Edmonton Oilers go from here, and much more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about anything other than the Edmonton Oilers. Instead, Chalmers ranted about The Last of Us after Wednesday's episode dropped a bombshell on viewers that our man did not see coming. Given that no one else on the podcast watches the show, the conversation didn't last more than a few seconds. If you're a fan of the show, however, you probably know what Chalmers was talking about.Changing gears, the boys got a second rant from Chalmers about the state of the Oilers. After dropping Game 2 more disappointingly than the first game, it was incredibly frustrating to watch a veteran team like this battle the details of their game as much as they are. Whether you're concerned with the goaltending, the defensive coverage, the lack of offence, or all of the above, there's little doubt that there are countless issues the Oilers need to sort out if they have any hope of getting back in the series. On a positive note, Tyler offered a few reasons why Oilers fans should be hopeful. As good as the Kings are at Crypto.com Arena, they are equally bad as the away team, which could give Edmonton an avenue to chip away at the deficit. As much as hoping for the best is part of the Oilersnation brand — Hope Will Never Die after all — it can be a battle when the team looks as down as they are right now, but the mission for Friday is to bring the good vibes anyway.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Tyler's childhood footwear, Wanye's broken toilet, and previewed the Oilers vs. Kings series which is set to kick off on Monday. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the Mega Stream that Tyler and Liam will be doing on Monday in anticipation of Game 1 against the Kings. As you'll hear, the boys have some fun stuff planned to fill up an eight-hour stream, and you'll want to subscribe to the Oilersnation YouTube page to ensure you're involved in the hijinks.Changing gears, Chalmers discussed his driving fear of going underneath overpasses with trains on them. Although there has never been a situation involving a train accident of any kind, he still feels anxious anytime he drives under a train. That story led Tyler to talk about his hatred of stairs and how he wore clogs with bells on them as a kid. Despite his story not making sense, the boys had a healthy chuckle to hear about the oddness of his childhood footwear.Next up on the docket was a story about Chalmers running over to Wanye's house this morning to fix his running toilet. If you remember, Chalmers had a situation in one of his rentals where a running toilet resulted in a $3800 water bill, so the trauma from that story still lives rent-free in his mind. As you'll hear, Wanye Manor is as much a place to hold inventory for his projects as it is a place for him to live, in addition to having a broken toilet that is basically unfixable. Finally, the boys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the Oilers' playoff run that will kick off Monday. Starting with the schedule, the guys wondered what would have to happen in the world for the Oilers to play earlier than 8PM so that the rest of the league can watch what is turning out to be the best rivalry in hockey.
Nothing is better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to recap the weekend and start your week. On the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys discussed the Masters final day, the Oilers' playoff run, and much more. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with an array of random topics, including everyone's anticipation of the Oilers' playoff run and Rory McIlroy's Masters win from Sunday. Starting with the golf, the guys spoke about how awesome it was to see Rory get the grand slam after over a decade of trying to win that fourth major. Seeing as there was plenty of history about blown opportunities for Rory, watching him overcome that adversity was fantastic in every possible way. This past weekend was an incredible sports weekend, and it was a lot of fun to watch the Oilers handle their business despite being shorthanded only moments after one of the most exciting Masters finishes ever. To assess the Oilers' situation, the guys started by discussing Mattias Ekholm's season-ending injury and how that is a massive blow to Edmonton's playoff aspirations. No matter how you slice it, that is an enormous loss for an Edmonton team that has been questionable defensively all season. Sticking with the NHL, the guys discussed some of the playoff races that are still happening, with only a few games left in the schedule, including Calgary's path to the playoffs if they keep winning. As you'll hear, there are plenty of storylines to follow during this last week of the regular season, and it will be fascinating to see how everything shakes out. The only problem with the conversation is that there was a lot of math involved, so you'll want to sharpen your pencil and bring your calculators.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Oodle Noodle's origin story, Connor McDavid's return to the lineup, meme coins, and much more. The guys started the Thursday show with a history of Oodle Noodle as the Jay and Wanye-led restaurant chain turned 20 years old on Thursday. From how they formed a relationship with the founder, Sonny, to travelling to Vietnam to formalize the relationship, hearing the Oodle Noodle origin story was a wonderful trip down memory lane.Changing gears, the guys discussed Connor McDavid's return to the lineup on Wednesday night against the St. Louis Blues and how his surprising return was not only welcomed but also incredibly productive. Not only was it incredible to see McDavid back on the ice with his teammates, but to have him go supernova in his first time out was an incredible display of dominance in a game Edmonton needed to win.Unable to stick to one topic for more than a few seconds, the conversation shifted to Wanye's Tyler Yaremchuk A.I. doll, which prompted Yaremchuk to confess that he is Oilersnation. If you've seen the photo, A.I. did a fantastic job creating a Tyler doll, but Yaremchuk worries that people will think he's making these images of himself. Could this be a long con to get Tyler even more hate than he already does online? Stay tuned. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a collection of random topics that ranged from the Masters tournament, NBA shenanigans, and some betting talk about all things sports. As always, the Thursday episode of Real Life was as random as it was enjoyable.
Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life is ready to help you start your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Trent Frederic's latest injury, Rexall Place memories, Will Smith's return, and much more. The guys started the Monday episode by discussing Trent Frederic's ankle injury again against the L.A. Kings on Saturday afternoon. Despite playing only 7:10 in TOI, Frederic re-injured his ankle and will now miss the rest of the regular season, with the goal of returning to the playoffs. Considering Frederic got re-injured in his first game as an Oiler, the fellas discussed the comparison to Mike Green playing on two games after the trade to Edmonton and refusing to return for the bubble playoffs.Sunday marked the ninth anniversary of Rexall Place closing, so the guys spent the next few minutes talking about the old barn and comparing the vibes to how they are now at Rogers Place.Next, there was a discussion about Alex Ovechkin breaking Wayne Gretzky's record and speculation about whether he will finish out the last season on his contract or go to the KHL. Either way, it's an incredible feat for Ovi and it will be interesting to what his next move looks like. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a little bit of baseball talk after the Jays signed Vladdy to a monster deal worth $500 million over the next 14 years. They also discussed Will Smith's return to the stage as the Fresh Prince tries to rebuild his image after the infamous Chris Rock slap.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the #NationVacation to Vegas, Alex Ovechkin's goal chase, and much more. The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a recap of the #NationVacation to Las Vegas and how it was a magical few days for the crew on Fremont Street. Starting with the way the boys cleaned up at the craps table, Baggedmilk updated Chalmers on how much money everyone made and how the trio can't seem to lose when they play together. From there, the guys started a semantic argument about the Ovechkin goal record chase and how the goals/game should be factored in once the record is tied. As you'll hear, most of the boys don't care much about those kinds of things, but that didn't stop Jay and Tyler from getting into it anyway. The guys started to wrap up the Thursday episode of Real Life with some Oilers talk about the injuries they're still battling and whether players like Connor McDavid and Stuart Skinner will be back before the playoffs. Given how tight the race is between the Oilers and the Kings, finding ways to win these last eight games has to be the focus. Finally, the Thursday episode of Real Life wound down with some baseball talk about the Jays and the new torpedo bats that seem to be taking the MLB by storm. Tyler and Chalmers then discussed some golf stories that have propped up lately, and we also gave Chalmers Jakey Baby's feedback that he's not a real golf fan. As always, the Thursday episode of Real Life was as random as it was enjoyable.
We're in Las Vegas for the Nation Vacation and what better way to celebrate than having a whole friendship tour. From the YouTube chat to the pod we had lots of our nation family hop on the headset for this chaotic poolside episode.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Wednesday's Oilers game, the What Chaos boys, and much more. The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about Chalmers ignoring the boys regarding the March 18th Oilers game despite being invited by both Baggedmilk and Tyler. For some reason, Chalmers claims he did not notice the missed phone calls or messages but wanted to thank the boys for the gesture anyway.Changing gears, the podcast got derailed by the What Chaos boys after DJ Bean lost his wallet in the podcast studio. After a few minutes of chaos — pardon the pun — DJ found his wallet, and the boys left the studio. What no one expected, however, is that Chalmers used the opportunity to air out a six-year-old beef he has with Pete Blackburn allegedly stealing one of his tweets. As you'll hear, Chalmers may have an argument about his stolen tweet, but the real question is how Pete will respond.Sticking with the topic of fighting, the guys walked through some old fighting stories from when they were younger and how it's incredible that no one had camera phones in those days. Needless to say, if there is a benefit to being older, it has to be that most of our childhood was not captured on social media. Thankfully, those insane memories are gone forever. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the guys walked through Wednesday's game against the Dallas Stars and how it was an exciting night at Rogers Place even though the team couldn't complete the comeback. Despite a horrible run of luck, injuries, and strong goaltending by Jake Oettinger, the game was all over the map, from excitement to heartbreaking. Then again, if you've been an Oilers fan for any length of time, these down periods feel almost like home.
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is recorded, edited, and ready to kick off your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed coffee vs. energy drinks, the Moose Jaw Warriors, Succession's TV takeover, and much more.Tyler wanted to start the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about Jay reusing his coffee cup for water. Somehow, Jay's reusing his coffee cup led to a lengthy discussion about coffee vs. energy drinks and how Nation HQ has a pretty equal split of employees who consume one or the other.Wanye shifted the conversation to the Moose Jaw Warriors after the team's season is already winding down after winning the league championship last season. If anything, seeing Moose Jaw struggle the season after spending all of their draft capital for the change to build a one-year winner should be a reminder of what can happen when you go all-in so aggressively.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, Tyler recapped the charity event he was at last night that featured Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. As you'll hear, it was fun for Tyler to experience a night with the Nuge and also included an interesting observation that you'll love to hear about city's favourite son. As it turns, out Nugent-Hopkins is as nice as you'd ever hope he is and Tyler was all to happy to confirm it.Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including Tyler's big betting wins, the Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl injury timelines, Trent Frederic's giant hands. As always, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map, precisely what you'd expect from this podcast.
Thursday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is ready to wrap up your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Mark Carney at Oilers practice, Chalmers not calling the boys back, and much more. The guys kicked off the episode with a discussion about why Chalmers did not return Tyler or Baggedmilk's call when they offered him a free ticket to the Oilers game. Even though the podcast started with Chalmers ghosting the boys, they didn't get more than two seconds into the story before changing topics. The guys then discussed Prime Minister Mark Carney joining the Oilers for practice this morning and how the sight is as interesting as it was controversial for some of the fanbase. Regardless of where you sit politically, what's objectively true is how unique it is for a sitting Prime Minister to be an Oilers fan. Politicians typically jump on the bandwagon in the playoffs, but Carney genuinely seems to love this team. Will a visit from the PM help the boys against the Winnipeg Jets?Changing gears, Tyler wanted to talk about some sports conspiracies after he fell down a rabbit hole of unexplained stories in the world of sports. From Alex Mogilny not being in the Hall of Fame to the Luka Doncic trade to the Lakers to some thinking that the Sedin twins changed place at one point in their career, the stories and theories are limitless. Regardless of what you think of these theories, it certainly is fun to talk about the possibility of high-level shenanigans. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a collection of random topics, including Kanye's recent run of horrible tweets, TikTok conspiracies, Blockbuster late fees, and much more. As always, the last half of Real Life was all over the place.
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is recorded, edited, and ready to kick off your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Jay and Baggedmilk's trip to Toronto, the Oilers winning their last two games in New York, the new Ice District development, and much more. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by recapping Jay and Baggedmilk's trips to Toronto. They explained that the trips were mostly filled with meetings and complaints about traffic. While it's always nice to see fellow staffers in Toronto, it's also nice to get back to Edmonton and out of the hustle and bustle.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, Jay expressed his concerns about the Colorado Avalanche being an absolute wagon. Given that the Avalanche's Rantanen trade has seemingly worked out well, does that mean all roads in the Western Conference run through Colorado? On the Oilers front, the guys wondered if the boys were back after their win over the Rangers, which was one of their best games since the 4 Nations break.Changing gears, the guys discussed the new downtown development plan that the city recently greenlit and how the plan to bring more items to the Ice District will transform downtown Edmonton. From the event park to the future housing projects, there's little doubt that Daryl Katz's plan to revitalize the arena district is continuing to come to fruition. While we don't know the dates when the projects will be ready, the squad is still excited about what the city will look like in the near future. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the favour Tyler is doing for Jay, the PGA Players Championship, another rant from Chalmers about youth sports, and anything that popped into everyone's mind. As always, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map, precisely what you'd expect from this podcast.
It was a small crew today on the podcast as Tyler, Wanye, and Chalmers sat down for a Thursday edition of the show. To kick things off, they talked about the ‘YouTube revolution' that's currently happening in the sport of golf and compared it to the way that hockey media has changed over the last number of years. They also talked about The Players Championship that's happening this weekend. After that, they continued their trip around the sports world as Chalmers wanted an explanation on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. contract situation. Tyler talked about how things have gotten as ugly as they have, why this all happening now with just a few weeks until the regular season, and why this season is already looking like a lose-lose for the Blue Jays. They wrapped up the pod with a little bit of talk about the Oilers as they get set for tonight's game against the Devils. The vibes are off right now with the Oilers and the guys talked about whether or not this team is going to figure things out down the stretch. Tyler says that they have the ability to flip the switch down the stretch whereas Chalmers and Wanye weren't as optimistic. They wrapped up by talking about the players they most want to see take a big step forward in the next month and they gave their predictions for tonight.
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is recorded, edited, and ready to kick off your week. On today's podcast, the guys discuss a fan interaction Tyler had this weekend, their first impressions of the Oilers' deadline pickups, and much more.Tyler kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a story from the weekend. Tyler was out and about after the trade deadline on Friday and had someone come up to him to say that he's an idiot right to his face. As you'll hear, Tyler often deals with keyboard warriors and is used to chirps on X/Twitter, but to have someone say something to his face was a new experience for our boy. From there, the guys offered their first impressions about the Oilers' deadline pickups. Starting with Jake Walman's game against the Stars, how could you not love the game he had on Saturday night against the Dallas Stars? From the long-bomb pass to Zach Hyman to his monstrous hit on Mikko Rantanen, it was hard not to be enamoured by Walman's first game in blue and orange. Even though it's only been a game, the guys are excited to see how Walman develops with the team once he gets comfortable.Sticking with the trade deadline, Jay and Tyler argued for the next ten minutes about whether the Oilers did enough. As you'll hear, the boys clearly don't agree that Edmonton could have done more, and it was entertaining for the other boys on the show to sit and listen to the chaos. While no one wants mom and dad to fight, the disagreement did lead to an interesting few minutes of podcast tension. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the Mikko Rantanen trade noise, NFL free agency, betting talk, and anything that popped into everyone's mind. As always, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map, which is exactly what you'd expect from this podcast.
It's Thursday afternoon, which means a new episode of Real Life is recorded and ready to discuss the world around us. On today's podcast, the guys discuss their trade deadline expectations, Jay's vacation to Paris, the drama surrounding the weight loss challenge, and much more. The guys started the Thursday episode of the podcast with a conversation about the NHL trade deadline and how no one really knows what to expect from the league's annual swap n' shop. With plenty of trades already happening in the days and weeks leading up to the deadline, it will be interesting to see how much movement actually happens on the last trading day. Will the Oilers be active, or will it disappoint the fanbase?Changing gears, the guys discussed Jay's vacation to Paris and how he did not waste an opportunity to enjoy all the delicious food he encountered. Chalmers called him out for his unsanctioned weigh-in before he left and said his win shouldn't count as a result. Everyone weighed in for an official marker, and Jay gained six pounds while away. So what does that mean for the weight loss challenge? No one can be sure.Sticking with the food talk, Chalmers went on a classic rant about restaurant menus in other languages because he constantly has to Google what everything is. As you'll hear, he was incredibly spicy about his trip to an Italian restaurant, and it was hilarious to hear him melt down about menus at fancy establishments. No one else in the room seems to have the same issue, but that didn't stop Chalmers from voicing his opinion on the issue. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with an array of topics, including social media viral moments, NFL free agency, and what everyone expects the Oilers to do at the trade deadline. As always, the hour flew by as the guys ripped through their topics and wrapped up just as quickly because Tyler had to bail for a trade deadline show rehearsal. Hosted on Acast. Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast is recorded, edited, and ready to kick off your week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed slippery sidewalks in Edmonton, what the Oilers might do at the trade deadline, the weigh-in shenanigans, and much more.Chalmers kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a story about falling on the ice after the melt in Edmonton has resulted in some of the slipperiest sidewalks you can imagine. As it turns out, Chalmers isn't the only one to wipe out lately, as Baggedmilk revealed that he also took a spill this past week while walking his dog. Needless to say, reminding people to be careful out there when you're walking around.Turning the podcast to the Oilers, Tyler quizzed Chalmers on how much he's been paying attention to the news ahead of the NHL trade deadline. As you likely suspected, Chalmers hasn't really been paying attention all that much, but did hear about the recent Evander Kane news about wanting to come back to prove he's still got it. Given the Oilers' cap limitations, this latest Kane news isn't likely to be overly popular around these parts.Changing gears, Chalmers brought Tyler up to date with the Real Life weight loss challenge shenanigans, and how the boys still don't feel as though they should pay him considering his winning weight was not at a sanctioned weigh-in. With Jay on his way back from France as the podcast was recording, it will be fascinating to hear his side of the story and whether he think his win is legitimate. Finally, the fellas wrapped up the Monday podcast with an array of topics, including wallet innovation, getting ID'd at restaurants, men's league showers, and whether anyone cares about St. Patricks Day. As always, the boys were all over the map to close out the show, which was as predictable as it was unpredictable.
It's Thursday afternoon, which means a brand new episode of the Real Life podcast is here to help us make sense of the world around us.The guys started off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a conversation about why Tyler still leaves his location on despite none of the other guys sharing theirs. Somehow, talking about Tyler being sick at home led to Chalmers going on an epic rant about Jay's win in the weight-loss challenge. As you'll hear, the way by which Jay revealed that he had lost 20 pounds over a full day before the sanctioned weigh-ins.Changing gears, Wanye told a story from one of his dreams, in which Tyler had a mini-version of himself after seeing him appear on CBC in an interview. That led to a discussion about the heat Wayne Gretzky is taking in Canada for his association with the US president. Regardless of your opinion on what's happening with this situation, there's little doubt that we are living in one of the wildest timelines imaginable. The conversation then moved into a run of conspiracy theories that revolved around fake news and A.I. that seem to grab hold on social media these days, and how damaging those situations can be. While it's fun to use A.I. to make funny images, videos, and whatever else is going on, there's also a very dark segment of users that are using these tools for harm and shenanigans. So what's the answer to the problem? Only time will tell. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a second rant from Chalmers after his kids are at home because of P.D. days at their school, which seem to be a running concern in their household. The guys then finished off with some golf talk after the new season of Full Swing was loaded up to Netflix this past week, and how well the producers of that show have done to highlight the sport.
Monday afternoon means another episode of the Real Life podcast is set and ready to kick off your week. On today's episode, the guys discussed Tyler's Uber issue, travel stories from Montreal and Boston, and whatever random topics came to mind as they were recording. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by discussing why Tyler and Baggedmilk were the only ones who showed up for the Monday podcast. After starting the show by wondering where everyone was, Jay and Wanye wandered into the studio after the recording had already started, which derailed the conversation but also made it better.Changing gears, Tyler told a story about getting scammed by an Uber in Montreal after pre-booking a ride to the airport. As you'll hear, this was one of the most confusing Uber situations ever. While the car was in motion on the way to the airport, the driver tried to hustle Tyler out of some cash instead of taking him where he needed to be for the pre-negotiated fare. No matter how you look at the situation, it seems like Tyler got ripped off in what can only be described as a very odd situation. From there, Tyler told a few stories about his time in Montreal and Boston, which he described as one of the coolest sports experiences he's had with The Nation Network so far. He talked about the Canada vs. USA final, driving to Boston through a snowstorm, and took listeners behind the scenes on what it was like to put on live shows from the event. If you thought it was going to be one of those situations where everything ran smoothly, you will be pleasantly surprised at how things tend to go sideways. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with an array of topics, including everyone's excitement for the Olympics, how great it was that Connor McDavid got his signature moment with Team Canada, and why Tyler needs to watch the movie Armageddon. As always, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map and wasn't able to stick on a single topic for very long.
We're only hours away from Canada taking on the USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off, which meant an opportunity to talk about the 4 Nations final, dad stories, the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary, and a whole lot more. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing the Canada vs. USA 4 Nations final, which is coming up on Thursday, and how that tournament engaged fans all over the continent. While many folks weren't excited about the tournament before it began, it didn't take long before all of those doubters were fully wrapped up in the moment. Needless to say, there is a very real appetite for best-on-best hockey, and this tournament is a perfect example of that.Changing gears, Wanye told another dad story about going to pick up his little man from daycare and having his four-year-old son scream as loud as he could in his ear. As you'll hear — see what we did there — Wanye is stumped about what to do after ChatGPT told him to seek medical attention if the problem doesn't clear up in 24 hours. Wanye's story inspired Chalmers to rant about his boys' school schedule over the next two weeks, and how it's impossible to understand how little class time his boys actually have. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a chat about the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special. If you're a big fan of the legendary sketch show, the amount of content about the anniversary lately has been fantastic. As you'll hear, Chalmers was incredibly excited about the special and was not shy about sharing his favourite moments.
The boys are in Montreal for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which meant an opportunity to talk about what it's like to be in the city for the tournament and to recap the Canada vs. Sweden game. Jay, Tyler, and Baggedmilk are in Montreal for the 4 Nations Face-Off and they kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by recapping their experience from the Canada vs. Sweden game on Wednesday night. Starting with a recap of the Bell Centre, the guys gave their take on what was like to watch a game in that arena.Getting to the game itself, the guys spoke about how the excitement from the evening really ramping up the overall vibes of the tournament. For anyone who was on the fence about the tourney, seeing the players give it their all really pulled the fans into the game. By the time the game went to overtime, the arena was brimming with excitement, and it was impossible not to get wrapped up in the moment. Changing gears, Jay then told the story of sitting next to Ken Holland on the plane to Montreal, and how they ended up becoming fast friends as the flight progressed. As you'll hear, Jay's conversation with the former-Oilers GM was all over the map, and it was fascinating how forthcoming the future Hall of Famer was with the details. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with a random collection of topics, including some cafeteria talk from the Bell Centre, the price of beers, and why Quebec uses commas in their numbers instead of the usual period. As our friend Woz would say, the culture shock was real.
It's Monday afternoon, which means a new episode of the Real Life podcast is here to help us make sense of the world around us.The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by discussing the Super Bowl, which was one of the more boring finals we've seen in the NFL in some time. Seeing as the game was basically over after the second quarter, the guys talked about how easily they were distracted down the stretch. Their discussion of the Super Bowl led them to discuss their betting sheets and how the Kendrick Lamar halftime show could be the end of Drake. Changing gears, Wanye wanted to talk about the rumours surrounding the Dallas Mavericks and how the Luka Doncic trade could be part of a higher conspiracy. If you follow the rabbit hole down far enough, you'll see theories about the state of Texas wanting a casino to be built and how that could tie to the Mavericks being bad. Sticking with basketball, the guys also talked about Jimmy Butler getting traded to Golden State and signing a new deal for $121 million. Getting back to the Oilers, the guys looked ahead to the trade deadline and offered their thoughts on what the Oilers should be fishing for. Whether it's a defensive upgrade like a Noah Dobson or a scoring winger that pushes everyone down in the lineup, there is little doubt in any of the guys' minds that the Oilers need to do something more than nibbling around the edges. Either way, the pressure is on Stan Bowman to make something happen to ensure the team can take another step forward. Finally, the guys talked about their trip to Montreal that's coming up this week, and how they're excited to head east even though they'll only be at the 4 Nations for 39 hours. Seeing as Baggedmilk has never been to Montreal, heading to the historic city for such a short amount of time is probably not ideal, but it will certainly be a great time anyway.
There's nothing better than a Thursday episode of the Real Life podcast to get you through what's left of your week with a little dose of shenanigans and Oilers-adjacent tomfoolery. The fellas kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by welcoming Wanye back to the show for the first time in what feels like forever. With Gregor on vacation in Hawaii for 10 days, Wanye got tapped to fill in at 1440 while Jason was on vacation, and he had plenty of stories from his time on the radio. If you know Wanye's knowledge of sports outside of the Oilers, you'll realize how hilarious it is to have him host a four-hour sports radio show. Hijacking the show, Chalmers was tired of talking about sports radio and shifted the conversation to a preview of a great sports weekend. As we learned, Chalmers has a personal connection to this weekend's Waste Management Open, which has him extremely excited to watch the amateurs competing in the tourney. Somehow, that led to a conversation about spending money from your first job after Tyler asked how much it would have cost for the guys to quit school and get right to work. From there, the boys looked ahead to Sunday's Super Bowl and got into the weeds with their prop betting sheet. With each contributing $20 to the pool, the strategies for approaching these props were all over the map. Needless to say, some of these props are ridiculous and betting real money on any of them seems foolish, but that doesn't mean the fellas didn't have a good time doing it anyway. Either way, the trend of increased betting talk on the Real Life podcast continues to rise.
It's the last week of NHL games ahead of the 4 Nations Face-Off, so there was plenty to discuss on the Monday episode of the Real Life Podcast. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life by looking ahead at the Four Nations Face-Off and discussing whether they are getting more excited as the tournament approaches. Given that it's the only hockey we'll be able to watch for two weeks, the guys wondered how excited people will be even with some of the best players on the ice together for the first time. Tyler also brought up the Oilers' schedule and how they'll be on the road for nearly two weeks after the 4 Nations break is over. Changing gears, the guys talked about playing golf video games and how Chalmers has joined Baggedmilk and Tyler in playing PGA Tour: Road to the Masters. Given that all three of the boys have that game, they're already setting the table for a Real Life virtual goal tournament when the boys can finally sync their schedules up and get to work. Feeling jealous that the boys are all playing golf, Jay invited himself over to Chalmers' house so that they could fill out the foursome. Turning the podcast toward the NBA, the guys discussed the Luka Doncic trade that sent the Mavs superstar to the L.A. Lakers over the weekend and tried to figure out what a comparable deal would look like in the NHL. Chalmers and Tyler discussed how a massive deal like this can go down with only one trade partner in the mix. Could you imagine a scenario where a team would trade an Auston Matthews-calibre prospect without anyone else in the league knowing he's available?
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast is set, recorded, and ready to massage your eardrums. On this week's show, the guys discussed Chalmers' extra days in Jasper, getting the weight loss challenge back on track, and whether the team should sign Brendan Saad. The fellas kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about Chalmers' extra days in Jasper after his family decided to stay back to do a little skiing. Seeing as Chalmers played hockey all weekend before his ski adventure, the ol' body wasn't feeling nearly as fresh as he needed it to be. That ski trip also gave Chalmers another dose of reality that his sons will soon start lapping their old man in the world of sports.Changing gears, the guys checked in on the weight loss challenge with their official weigh-ins for the week. Given that the boys just had a monster weekend at the JPL that was ripe with cocktails and snacks, it's almost a miracle that they could stay relatively flat with their totals. Now that the tournament is over, Chalmers and Baggedmilk both talked about the need to lock in and get back on track to win Jay's money.Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, the boys discussed the idea of signing Brendan Saad after the St. Louis Blues just bought him out. Saad chose to get bought our and forgo the remaining money on his deal because he didn't want St. Louis to send him down to the minors, which creates an interesting opportunity for the Oilers provided they think it's a fit. Would you sign Saad knowing that he would add even more depth to the roster, or is he too close to one of our other players that makes it unlikely?
The boys just got back from the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament, which meant there was plenty to discuss on the Monday episode of the Real Life Podcast. On today's podcast, the guys recapped the Jasper tourney, Tyler's Bills sadness, Connor McDavid's return to the lineup, and much more. The podcast started with a recap of the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament from this past weekend at the Jasper Park Lodge and how it was yet another spectacular few days in the mountains. The boys couldn't help but gush about how great it was to return to the JPL, spend time with co-workers, and the games that entertained the group over those few days. If you're ever on the fence about attending the tournament, let this weekend recap be your cue to sign up a squad for next year.Changing gears, Tyler expressed his feelings about the Buffalo Bills' losing to the Kansas City Chiefs for the second consecutive year in the playoffs. From how Buffalo started poorly to how some questionable calls later in the game factored into the loss, Tyler broke down his feelings on the loss and how it's frustrating to fall to Kansas City again. Needless to say, sports are awful most of the time, and last night's loss was yet another dose of that reality for Tyler. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast with some hockey talk, as the boys are still reeling from the monster Mikko Rantanen trade that happened on Friday night. Amazingly enough, Jeff Marek ended up getting Erik Tulsky — Carolina's General Manager — on The Sheet to talk about the deal and how it all came together. Finally, they wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a quick chat about Connor McDavid's return to the lineup, and how the boys feel like the captain is going to have a big night.
The boys are out in Jasper for their annual pond hockey tournament at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and they decided to sit down and record a quick edition of the Real Life Podcast to recap the first 48 hours in Jasper. They talked about how Team Oilersnation is doing through their first few games, the massive trade that went down in the NHL, and all the other shenanigans that come along with their annual trip to the rockies. Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to kick off your week and help you make sense of this crazy little thing called life. On this week's podcast, the guys discussed the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament, Baggedmilk's hot dog charity drive, and got an update for the Real Life weight loss challenge. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with an update on the podcast weight loss challenge. As you'll hear, Jay and Baggedmilk are down some weight, while a big weekend's worth of food and drinks has Chalmers up 200 grams. The best part about Chalmers gaining a little bit is that he spent the Thursday podcast episode bragging about being down six pounds.Tagging onto the weight loss challenge, the guys got an update about Baggedmilk's hot dog charity drive now that he's got a week's worth of dogs under his belt. Even though no on expected this bit to go on this long, it's amazing to see how the community has rallied around the challenge to raise over $5000 for SCARS animal rescue.Changing gears, the fellas looked ahead at the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament and Chalmers' plan to get everyone to stay an extra day so they could ski at Marmot Basin. Chalmers is very excited about the tournament, and if he can find a way to get everyone to stay an extra day, he could put himself even further behind in the weight loss challenge. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics. They discussed everything that went down around the NFL this past weekend, recapped some winners and losers, and updated everyone on what's happening with the Real Life weight loss challenge. Needless to say, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map once again.
On a scale from one to infinity, how excited were you to see that a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast was recorded, wrapped, and ready to carry you into the weekend? You're very excited, and everybody knows it.The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing how Sportsnet was duped by an Oilersnation April Fools article from years ago in a recent post about McDavid escaping additional discipline for an elbow against the Wild. As you'll hear, the boys had a healthy chuckle about Sportsnet's mishap and how the article still isn't fixed even 14 hours later. That led to the guys discussing whether or not McDavid deserved some kind of fine after that elbow.Sticking with Connor McDavid, the guys spent some time making up fan fiction about No. 97's home life and tried to imagine what silly arguments he has with his wife. Do they argue about walking the dog? Dishes? Do they have people to handle those day-to-day items? Obviously, we'll never know the answers to those questions unless the couple invites people into their home for a reality show or something, but that didn't stop the boys from having fun imagining scenarios anyway.Changing gears, the guys looked ahead at the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament and how the boys are incredibly excited to get back to the Jasper Park Lodge for the third annual tourney. Not only is it a good time in a beautiful location, but it's also geared at raising money for a great cause. Given that Baggedmilk, Chalmers, and Tyler have been to the tournament for three straight years, they walked through some of the logistics from the weekend and how they plan to party at this year's event. https://twitter.com/NationRealLifehttps://www.youtube.com/@Oilersnationdotcom/ https://www.facebook.com/OilersNation/https://www.instagram.com/nationreallife/https://www.tiktok.com/@oilersnation SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to kick off your week and help you make sense of this crazy little thing called life. On this week's podcast, the guys recapped home security, Jay's trip to Mexico, and set the terms for the Real Life weight loss challenge. The fellas kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a story from Tyler after he woke up convinced that someone was trying to break into his house. After a day of drinking for the Buffalo Bills, a beer league game, and a healthy dose of spidey senses, a potential intruder woke Tyler up in the middle of the night, leading the boys to discuss home safety. Initially, Tyler thought the boys would make fun of his story, but what happened was a discussion about how to deal with intruders.Next up on the schedule, Jay recapped his vacation to Mexico and started with a story about how he slept through an earthquake. Even though a bunch of folks around him felt the incident, Jay slept right through the whole event. Changing gears, Jay then told a story about a bar he went to in Mexico that was Oilers themed. Seeing as it was the spot for Canadians in Mexico to watch hockey, experiencing a couple of games in that setting was a very fun way to experience an Oilers game. Changing gears, the guys got back to the weight loss challenge they started talking about back in December and started the contest with an official weigh in. Jay came in at 230.1 pounds, Chalmers was at 199.8 pounds, and Baggedmilk was at 202.8 pounds, and now the contest will be who can lose 20 pounds the fastest or by the end of the end of the NHL regular season. With $200 on the line from each person, the race is on to get fit. Needless to say, the Monday episode of Real Life was all over the map once again.
On a scale from one to infinity, how excited were you to see that a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast was recorded, wrapped, and ready to carry you into the weekend? Infinity excited, right? Of course. The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the Jasper Pond Hockey tournament that's coming up in a couple of weeks at the Jasper Park Lodge and how the boys have started pulling some pranks on their out-of-town co-workers. From convincing guys they need to play with a wood stick to pre-negotiating the post-game party spot, it's clear how excited everyone is to get back to Jasper and play some hockey.Somehow, talking about playing hockey led to an extended discussion about the Olive Garden. Even though none of the guys had been to Olive Garden in forever, they still spent a lot of time talking about all the times they used to eat there. They also discussed how the restaurant removed Wanye's favourite seafood portofino dish. Nobody knows how the podcast landed on restaurant talk, but they spent more time there than expected. With the Olive Garden talk out of the way, the guys examined the weight loss of Chalmers, Baggedmilk, Jay, and Tyler and noted that they're still looking for a way to loop in charity. While Tyler and Baggedmilk have started chipping away at the challenge, Chalmers has been sick for the last week, and Jay is still in Mexico, so who knows how this challenge is going to turn out. Will they lose weight? Will Baggedmilk's hot dog challenge cause him to gain weight? Finally, the guys wrapped up the Thursday podcast with a story about Wanye leaving the Real Life group chat because he feels Tyler texts the group way too early. As you'll hear, the reason for having his notifications on makes sense, but in this case, he could have taken some very easy steps to mute notifications instead of having to leave the group chat.
Today on the podcast, Tyler and Wanye were joined by fellow Oilersnation colleague Liam to talk about the Oilers and life getting back to normal after a weirdly long holiday break. To kick things off, Wanye explained why he wasn't on the podcast last week and the guys talked about their new interns that just started today. That led to some talk about their past experiences being interns. Liam then shared some ideas on how the NHL could fix the Winter Classic experience. Tyler argued that there is no fixing it and people just need to accept it for what it is.They then talked about former Oiler Alex Chiasson, who officially announced his retirement today. From a PTO to a 20-goal season he was a surprisingly impactful Oiler for a brief time. They also talked about some moments from movies and pop culture that aren't aging well. They wrapped with some NFL talk for Bet365.
Thursday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to wrap up your week and help you make sense of this crazy little thing called life. On this week's podcast, the guys talked about their New Year's Eve plans, getting into the World Juniors, and a whole lot more. The guys started the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing New Year's Resolutions and how this point on the calendar feels like a zone where days blend together. But now that the calendar has flipped to 2025, routines are starting to feel a little more normal. Needless to say, it's always a battle to get back in the swing of things after the Christmas break.Sticking with New Year's Eve, the guys ran through their plans from the night, and what was most interesting was that no one did anything and loved it. That led Chalmers and Baggedmilk to argue about the state of country music after both guys watched the Nashville NYE special. Since Chalmers is a country purist, he didn't appreciate the face tattoos and auto-tuned singing that has invaded the genre over the last year or so.Finally, the fellas wrapped up this episode of the podcast with a collection of random topics, including the scaring of children, Jay's new hydrogen water bottle, and a bunch of other nonsense that was not included on Tyler's prep sheet. As you'll hear, Jay is very passionate about his new hydrogren bottle and tried to convince the fellas that it wasn't just wasted money. As always, the Thursday episode of the podcast was all over the map even when they tried to stay on topic.Nation Real LIfe
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to kick off your week and help you make sense of this crazy little thing called life. On this week's podcast, the guys recapped their Christmas break and walked through all of the stories you missed over the last week since the last show. The guys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a random selection of topics, ranging from Tyler's first egg nog in his adult life to how many hot dogs someone can eat before they're tired of them. That led Jay to tell the story of one of his Canada Day parties, where he overindulged on dogs and ended up having one of the worst experiences of his life.Changing gears, the guys shifted the podcast to how everyone spent their Christmas. For Jay, having a young daughter who's old enough to be excited for Santa was a wonderful experience. This year, Santa brought Crawford a GT Snow Racer, and it was a proud dad moment to see her cruising down the hill like a little speed demon.Sticking with the Christmas conversation, the guys talked about their favourite gifts from this year and how it made everyone feel incredibly old because all of the best presents were incredibly practical. If you're ever feeling old, nothing lets you know you're actually there quite like being excited about new pans and a fresh wok. Finally, the first episode of Real Life of the week wrapped with a conversation with some hockey talk. Starting with the World Juniors, the guys discussed whether they're still as excited as they used to be about the annual Christmas tourney. Was everyone more into the tournament when the Oilers were bad? As you'll hear, the tournament seems to have lost its lustre for the boys on the show as they've gotten older.
Monday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to kick off your week and help you navigate the Christmas break. On today's show, the boys discussed Leon Draisaitl's fantastic season, NFL quarterback gifts, and much more. With only Baggedmilk and Tyler available to record, the boys started the Monday episode with some Oilers talk. Starting with Leon Draisaitl's commitment to defence, it's been wonderful to watch our German superstar elevating his game at a time when the team needed him. While we've seen him play more of a two-way style in the playoffs, having him do it during the early days of the regular season has been fantastic. Changing gears, the conversation shifted to some of the gifts NFL quarterbacks are giving their offensive linemen as gifts, and what we've learned is that those dudes are that they have no problem spending cash on the big men who protect them. Whether it's giving the O-line a new car, expensive tequila, or explaining that they can't all get guns, it's fascinating to see the kind of money that flies around at Christmas. Getting back on the ice, Baggedmilk and Tyler spent some time talking about the father and son who got into a fight with each other at a beer league game. It prompted the boys to wonder how they would fare against their own dads if push came to shove. As you'll hear, neither of them thinks they'd have any chance against their dads on flat ground but could have a chance to win that fight on ice. Finally, Tyler and Baggedmilk wrapped up the podcast with some more hockey talk as they looked around the league and tried to figure out why some of the bad teams aren't better. Why do the Buffalo Sabres always suck? Is Steve Yzerman as good of a general manager as people expected? All the fellas know for sure is that there are a lot of stinky teams out there, and knowing that gives Baggedmilk comfort.
Thursday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to wrap up your week and help you navigate the rest of it. On today's show, the guys discussed the Nation Christmas party, Babe Rwuth theories, and some love for Zach Hyman's toughness. The boys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the Nation Christmas party that happened last night at Nation HQ and how the party rolled on until 4 AM for some of the staff. After spending literally two seconds recapping the party, the conversation turned to a much darker place. If you've never heard the Babe Ruth stories from back in the day, this first section of the podcast will be illuminating. From there, the conversation turned back to the White Elephant gift exchange at the Nation Christmas party and how it was an elite way to spend an hour. Not only were there endless steals, but the chaos that ensued as the rounds progressed was thrilling to witness. That also led to the boys discussing whether it's fair game to take your own present back, provided you're not thrilled with the other options.Moving the show back to the Oilers, the guys started the discussion with some love for Zach Hyman after getting his nose broken and returning to play the very next period. If you've seen the pictures of him from practice Thursday morning, it's incredible to think of how tough the guy has to be to keep playing with that kind of injury. The fellas also covered the disappointing loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday, and how it was an annoying blip during what has been a fantastic stretch of hockey. Finally, Chalmers asked the guys for their opinion on using the app Splitwise, and if it ever makes sense to split costs equally. While there are certainly times when splitting the bill makes sense, getting too much into the weeds on expenses can really ruin the vibe of a trip. As you'll hear, no one on the podcast subscribes to this kind of thing, and you'd be better off not inviting them anywhere if you are.
The guys are back for a new edition of the Real Life Podcast as they sat down to recap the weekend. To kick things off, Tyler talked about his EPS ride along from this weekend. He shared a few stories and the guys wondered if would make a good police officer. There were a couple of spicy moments that he told everyone about and that took the podcast in a few pretty interesting directions. From there, they started talking about the Oilers big win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon. The big story was whether or not Jays daughter was finally able to meet Hunter the Lynx but outside of that, they did talk about what's been driving this winning streak for the Oil.Wanye says it was the most impressive win of the season which led to a look back at some of the other big games from the first two months of the season. Is this Oilers team back to the same level that they were at the end of last season? The guys broke it all down. They then talked about a couple of big trips that the group has coming in 2025 including going back out to Jasper for the annual pond hockey tournament and heading to Vegas for the Oilers game in April. They shared what they're excited about and talked about how you can join them!
Thursday afternoon means a new episode of the Real Life Podcast is ready to wrap up your week and help you navigate the rest of it. On today's show, the guys discussed Christmas gift-giving, the price of hockey equipment, and where everyone sits with Egg Nog.The boys started the podcast with an extended conversation about tap water and how Chalmers has resorted to buying distilled water to make his ice to avoid the fog caused by tap water. As you'll hear, no one was on board with this strategy, and the reaction to his story left Chalmers feeling vulnerable about his admission.Somehow, the discussion about tap water and ice machines led to a conversation about egg nog. Tyler had some in his fridge but refused to try them. From there, the guys wondered if there are any Egg Nog applications they haven't experienced yet. Would it make sense in a latte? How about raw dog pouring it into coffee instead of milk or creamer?Changing gears, Chalmers went on a classic rant about the price of hockey sticks and how both of his sons needed new ones this past week, effectively eliminating the bulk of their Christmas present. Talking about hockey sticks then got the guys going on Tyler's beef with getting gift cards at Christmas, but as you'll hear, his logic on the topic wasn't exactly sound. Finally, the boys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the podcast with a collection of topics, including Juan Soto's new contract, Chalmers new phone game, and the brand new Nation Vacation to Vegas that launched Thursday. As always, the Thursday episode of Real Life was all over the map, so this is the perfect podcast for you if you're into shenanigans and nonsense.
It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not.The guys kicked off the first podcast episode of the week by discussing the Nation Citizen Christmas party and how the boys are excited to see everyone at Dogpatch for a night of shenanigans and a viewing party. That led to a chat about Baggedmilk and Jay's time in Toronto and how they had to jump on a plane almost immediately after getting home from the #NationVacation from Denver.Turning the show back to the Oilers, the conversation turned to whether or not it was fair that the Rogers Place faithful let the boo birds rain down on Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg. Unlike some folks in the media, the boys thought booing them was fair game. Even though both players weren't necessarily at fault for the offer sheet situation, everyone wondered if part of booing those two was also a reflection of what the fanbase thinks of management.Changing gears, the guys discussed the Juan Soto contract that he signed with the NY Mets and how the money in that sport is completely bananas. Despite not being in the same league as Shohei Ohtani in terms of being a hitter and pitcher, the Soto contract is almost as big as the New York Mets decided to empty the vault out for the former-Yankee. Now that Soto is a Met, it will be fantastic to see what the reception is like the first time he goes back to Yankee stadium. Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the annual Jasper Pond Hockey Tournament that will be happening again in January. After the devastation of the wildfires from this past summer, knowing that the tourney is back makes everyone so very happy. If you want to sign up for the tournament, head to the CHE Hockey website and enter your team before they're full.
The boys are back in Edmonton for their regularly scheduled Thursday edition of The Real Life Podcast. With Jay and Baggedmilk still on the road, today's episode featured Tyler, Wanye, and Chalmers and one of the three was in a very spicy mood.Chalmers hasn't been on the podcast for a few weeks as he recovered from elbow surgery and he returned to tell us the tales of his surgery and how good he's feeling in the aftermath. He was also livid that the boys are back in the old studio after moving upstairs for exactly one episode. From there, they talked about the Four Nations Faceoff roster reveal and the stunning lack of Oilers in the mix for Team Canada. They also talked about the selection process in general and then got into some talk about the current state of the Oilers after their 1-0 loss to the Golden Knights. Tyler also told some more tales from The Nation Vacation and Chalmers had some takes about the current state of youth hockey.
A fresh Real Life from the road as the guys gathered in a hotel room to record the latest episode of The Real Life Podcast. Tyler, Jay, Baggedmilk and Rick were all in Denver for the Nation Vacation. They recapped the first few days of the trip, which featured a pair of victories by the Edmonton Oilers, and talked about everything else that's gone on during the vacation. From Woz's adventures to the group living live to the fullest in the Mile High city, they had plenty to talk about on the podcast. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to wrap up your week and help you navigate this crazy little thing called life. Unsurprisingly, the Thursday episode of the podcast was all over the map, with no single topic lasting for more than a few minutes. The guys started the Thursday episode of the podcast by discussing the new studio at Nation HQ and how Wanye is torn about converting one of the rooms into another studio. After spending a minute talking about the new studio, the conversation turned to the Nation Citizens Christmas party at Dogpatch on December 12th. With limited space available, you'll want to reserve a spot early. As you'll hear, the conversation didn't stay on track for long, as Tyler was very distracted by the bets he put down for the Lions vs. Bears game. That also led the guys to get distracted by Yaremchuk's betting sheet after he decided to write down everything he had on a loose-leaf piece of paper. Needless to say, our man puts the work in when it comes to football. Changing gears, the guys spent some time talking about tomorrow's Nation Vacation to Denver and how the logistics leading up to the trip have been hilarious. As you'll hear, the staff from Nation HQ has all kinds of interesting travel quirks, and organizing trips like this brings out the hilarity for everyone involved. Finally, the boys wrapped up the Thursday episode of the podcast with a random collection of topics, including a look at the streamer world, cryptocurrency, and how it's fun for Canadians to mail it in on American Thanksgiving even though it's only Thursday up here. Sure, your boss may expect you to work today, but the reality is that no one is doing much of anything.
Monday means a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast is ready to help you kick off your week. Today's episode covers a range of topics after an eventful weekend filled with life events, an Oilers win, and the first snowstorm of the season. On today's podcast, the guys covered the weekend's snowstorm, Wanye being super dad, Chalmers' upcoming surgery, and more. The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about the dump of snow that hit us this past weekend. Of course, everyone on the show is used to Alberta winters, but that doesn't always mean you're ready when Mother Nature dumps a foot of snow over 24 hours. From shovelling snow to driving around during a storm, they walked through their approach to Edmonton's first winter storm.Changing gears, Wanye wanted to discuss why he missed the second period of Saturday's Oilers game. As you'll hear, Papa Wanye was called to duty when his little man got sick after what he thought was a solid way to tire him out. Unfortunately, while Wanye's plan may have been sound in theory, what happened was very different from the expectation.Off to a different topic again, Chalmers walked through the elbow surgery he's getting tomorrow and how doing construction over the last three decades has caused some issues. It was clear that something was wrong if you saw Chalmers walk into the studio ahead of the recording, and it all made sense once he talked about what's going on.Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode with a little bit of Oilers talking, starting with the fact that both Viktor Arvidsson and Zach Hyman are already ruled out for next weekend. Given that both players were originally listed as day-to-day, having them miss this much time without much of an explanation isn't exactly sitting well with a lot of the fanbase.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to wrap up your week and help you navigate this crazy little thing called life. Unsurprisingly, the Thursday episode of the podcast was all over the map with no single topic lasting for more than a few minutes. The fellas kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about pajamas and how no one understands why anyone would wear PJs that are overly complicated. As you'll hear, the boys kicking off the podcast with PJ talk was really confusing for Jay as he walked into the studio a few minutes late.Changing gears, Jay recapped his trip to Toronto from this week and how he was able to go golfing in November. Even though it's mid-November, getting a round in this late in the year was enough of a reason for Jay to break his own flight rules by checking his golf clubs. Jay also spoke about staying out in Barrie, and how he learned that a lot of pilots live out there and even call it Terminal 4.The guys then discussed the upcoming Nation Vacation to Denver, and how Jay and Tyler signed themselves up for a 5KM Turkey Trot on the day of the Oilers game. For Baggedmilk and Wanye, such a commitment makes little sense given how hard everyone is expected to get after it the night before. On the flip side, maybe a 5KM walk after a night out is exactly what everyone needs to get back on their game. Finally, the fellas wrapped up the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including the Paul Skenes rookie card search, Prince Harry at the Grey Cup, Diddy's prison shenanigans, and how Bigcat from Barstool ended up winning $30K on a bet thanks to an anonymous tip.
It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not.The fellas kicked off the first week podcast episode of the week with a random collection of topics, including a look back at some of the biggest sports moments from the past few days. Starting with Connor McDavid's 1,000-point night, the fellas looked back at what was a magical night at Rogers Place and how that was one of the greatest nights to be an Oilers fan that we can remember. Changing gears, the guys looked at Saturday's loss against the Maple Leafs and how avoidable mistakes ended up sinking the Oilers' night even though they probably should have won.The next topic that came up was the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight from Friday night, and started with the issues Netflix was having with the 60 million people logging in to the stream. Given the hype ahead of the fight, the fact that Netflix wasn't prepared for the influx of traffic was stunning. As for the fight itself, Tyler took a victory lap after he basically called what was going to happen on Thursday's podcast. Not only did he predict a Jake Paul win but he also suspected that Tyson wouldn't look anything like the training videos, which is exactly what happened. From there, the guys spoke about the Ryan Reaves hit on Darnell Nurse from Saturday night, and how it was such a needless hit given where the league is at in 2024. For a player like Reaves who plays extremely limited minutes at the best of times, it makes the fact that he took out an Oilers' starter all the more frustrating. The squad also discussed whether a five-game suspension was enough given how violent the collision was and the fact Reaves has a history of predatory hits.
Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to wrap up your week and help you navigate this crazy little thing called life. This week, the fellas covered Chalmers' new found appreciation for meditation, Connor McDavid chasing 1000 points, Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul, and a whole lot more. The boys started the podcast by discussing the new studio and how a couple of shipping delays are making Tyler nervous about getting it done on time. But as you'll hear, no one heard the first part of the conversation because none of the microphones were turned on. Picking up where they left off, Chalmers confessed that he's now a meditator and revealed how it's impacting his life.Changing gears, the guys looked at tomorrow's fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul and speculated what everyone thinks will happen. What's clear is that the older boys on the show think 58-year-old Tyson is being disrespected by younger folks who may not remember how devastating he used to be. Granted, Tyson isn't the fighter he was as a younger man, but if he catches Jake Paul with a clean punch, that could be all she wrote. Tyler, however, was willing to put his money where his mouth is with the backing of Jake Paul.Turning the podcast toward the Oilers, the guys looked at Connor McDavid sitting only a single point away from 1,000 in his career, and even took guesses at how he'll pick up the point. If he does reach the milestone on Thursday against Nashville, the thing the guys wanted everyone to remember is that they should enjoy the moment. Even though we've all gotten used to Connor McDavid doing ridiculous things on an annual basis, this latest milestone is anything but normal.
It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast, would it? Of course not. The boys kicked off the podcast by discussing an idea from Target in the USA: patrons can enjoy a beer while they're shopping. The boys then wondered if they would even want to spend more time in the grocery store or if they believed this could be an insurance issue waiting to happen.Changing gears, the guys spent the next few minutes talking about the Nation Vacation at the end of the month and how the boys are excited about the 5KM run they organized for Denver. Baggedmilk, however, is thrilled to be sitting out that run and promises to meet the boys with a fresh beer when they cross the finish line. Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, the boys discussed how great it was to watch the boys dismantle the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Given that the boys were struggling to score goals, is it too much to hope that the floodgates could open up a little bit? That said, there are still a couple of players — Nugent-Hopkins and Podkolzin, specifically — who are struggling mightily to get pucks in the net. Finally, the fellas wrapped up the podcast with a discussion about Jeff Marek joining The Nation Network and how it's wild to think about how far TNN has come over the years. Needless to say, welcoming Marek into the family was a big moment for the company, and the guys are all excited to see what kind of content he produces with the MSM shackles coming off. Today's episode of The Real Life Podcast is going to have a bit of a different sound to it. The guys hit the road in an all new F-150 from our friends at Sherwood Ford The Giant and were joined by their friend Esky from the dealership, who is a die hard Oilers fan. They talked about his life as a fan and his thoughts on the team. He also walked them through some features on the truck they were driving. They also talked about last night's loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. It featured a late blown lead, a weak goal from Stuart Skinner, and some tough plays by Evan Bouchard, which had Jay smirking. They talked about the public perception around the team right now and why there's no reason to be concerned. They also talked a little betting before returning the truck to the dealership and wrapping up the episode!
A fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to kickstart your week. Today's show had Tyler, Chalmers and Wanye sitting down to talk about the latest surrounding the Edmonton Oilers, their lives and the world of sports. To kick things off, Chalmers talked about why his voice was so raspy and then led to some discussion about his youth sports. From there, they talked about the Oilers' big two wins since their last episode including a massive victory over the Calgary Flames, which sounded like a home game on the broadcast. They then touched on the fact that Connor McDavid could be nearing a return much earlier than previously anticipated. He won't be back for tonight's game however, which is on Amazon Prime and that led to a whole different conversation about how to actually watch the game. From there, they talked about their best bets for tonight and also they mixed in some NFL talk from the past weekend. Tyler also cut his hand and told that story, which Chalmers thought was fake.
It wouldn't be a Thursday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get through the rest of the work week. On today's podcast, the fellas worked through their favourite Halloween snacks, old bar stories, social media influencers, and a whole lot more. The guys kicked off the podcast with a discussion about everyone's Halloween plans and approaches to the annual candy grab. From cruising around with their young kids to Tyler being dressed as a cat to the best Halloween they've experienced, the Halloween talk was all over the map. Somehow, talking about costumes led Jay and Wanye to talk about the first business they started, running pub crawls.Changing gears, the guys turned the podcast toward the Oilers, as both Noah Philp and Drake Caggiula will make their season debuts with Connor McDavid out of the lineup for the next couple of weeks. While everyone is excited to see what these two can do in the lineup, the conversation turned to social media influencers and how there's a subgenre of creators who do nothing but comment on what's happening with more popular creators. It's an interesting space on the Internet, but one that's growing quickly. Finally, the guys worked through a couple of bets ahead of Thursday's Oilers game and wondered how the team will respond with Connor McDavid on the shelf. Needless to say, the boys aren't exactly feeling too confident given how poorly Monday's game against Columbus went with McDavid on the shelf. Even though there are still so many good players on the team, the days aren't quite as bright with the captain down and out.
It wouldn't be a Monday afternoon without a fresh episode of Real Life to massage your earholes and help you get into the rest of the work week. The skeleton crew kicked off the Monday episode by complaining about the co-hosts not being in attendance for the podcast. If there's one thing the boys are good at, it's piling on their teammates when they're not there to defend themselves. Getting back to business, however, the conversation turned to Friday's win over the Pittsburgh Penguins and how it was a big night on the ice and after the game. After the game on Friday, the Oilers added Craig MacTavish and Randy Gregg's names to the Ring of Honour, which led to a conversation about some of our favourite memories of those two players. Wanye then told a story about writing a letter to Dr. Gregg when he was a kid, and how the former Cup winner actually took the time to write him back and how meaningful that letter was to a young hockey fan. Changing gears, the podcast discussed a wide range of topics, from the Lil Durk arrest to food trucks to the World Series to bad tribute statues and everything in between. Starting with the state of hip hop, the guys walked through the insanity of the Lil Durk arrest and how some of these rappers just can't escape the lifestyle. We then discussed the Dwayne Wade statue reveal from this past weekend, and how it could arguably be one of the worst ones ever made. That led the guys to wonder how much prep the Oilers will have to do to prepare for the McDavid and Draisaitl statues that will hopefully come down the line. Hosted on Acast.
