"I chose a field recording, by Erick Ruiz Arellano, about a tunas seller in Zacatecas, Mexico. "I did a bit of digging to discover that Zacatecas is on the historical 'El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro' (aka the Silver Route) – a 2,500km road between Mexico City and San Juan Pueblo (in America) that was used from 1598 to 1882. "As I sought to translate and understand the conversations in this recording, I discovered that a "tunas seller" is someone who sells prickly pears. "Inspired by the repetitive creaking sound that this seller's equipment made as they walked from door to door, coupled with the rich ambience of the original recording, I immediately knew I wanted to use this creaking as the foundation of the track. I subtly sharpened up the timing between each creak and incorporated interesting snippets from the original recording. "The composition features vocal samples from online translation and pronunciation tools, discovered while researching the tunas/prickly pear connection. I also included a playful sample from Baloo's 'Bare Necessities' song from 'The Jungle Book' (1967), where he coincidentally sings about prickly pears. "What began as curiosity about a street vendor's creaking equipment evolved into a composition that celebrates the unexpected connections between modern Mexican street commerce, historical trade routes, and a bit of pop culture." Tim is the team manager / DS of Shibden Apex RT which is the top ranked women's junior team in the WORLD. This team has been developing future stars for many years now, with the likes of Cat Ferguson and Imogen Wolff (Previous guests of the pod) both honing in their skills and talents to go on to further pro teams. The work that goes into being a team manager is hugely underrated, and in this podcast we hope to spread some light onto what is involved. We also talk about: How important sponsors are for teams What each of the girls does on a race weekend? How the parents are such key roles for the riders. And what pro teams are actually looking for?
Road racing's not just about the biggest races, the biggest names and the biggest teams. While the Giro d'Italia continues and hogs most of the headlines, there's plenty of quality racing going on elsewhere, just with a lesser profile and often less funding too. This leads us to the question: why can't Britain's most talented young team get a bike brand on board? That team is Shibden HopeTech Apex, and we hear from its manager, Tim Ferguson. He tells us about their astonishing run of success through the first half of this season, about the WorldTour teams interested in signing half a dozen or more of his riders, and reveals that they're achieving world-beating results on a budget that would barely cover the cost of one fully-fitted WorldTour racing bike. Despite this financial poverty, Ferguson also asserts that he's determined for his team to press on and keep producing talent, hoping that more support will come in future. We also hear from Cat Ferguson, Tim's daughter and the outstanding talent on that Shibden team. Signed to a multi-year deal with Movistar from 1 August, the 18-year-old British sensation reflects on a season where her worst position has been second, on the crop of British juniors who look set to make waves on the Women's WorldTour in the years ahead, on her determination to win an elusive rainbow jersey before she leaves the junior ranks, and of her gratitude for the women who have paved the way to better and sustainable careers at the top level. Out with the brown shorts and in with victories – that's been the story of Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale's season so far. After nine wins in 2023, the French team already have 16 this year. We turned to their experienced road captain Larry Warbasse to get an insight into the reasons behind this change in fortunes. The American explains how Decathlon's arrival provided new motivation and focus, as well as extremely fast new bikes that have helped boost the riders' speed and confidence levels. Our Giro diary comes from Groupama-FDJ's Lewis Askey, who is full of praise for the organisers of the corsa rosa, reveals that Clarkson's Farm is getting his roommate Laurence Pithie sleeping like a baby in the evenings, and explains why he's confident in his own and his team's chances of his success before the race reaches Rome. This podcast is brought to you with the support of our sponsor, Saddle Skedaddle. Good news at Wellington Airport, where a backlog of disrupted flights is being cleared. Talk of mergers are on the news menu just about everywhere, but before we turn to the latest on that issue, RadioCycling has quite a scoop...X-ray machines and iPads have been touted as the means to prevent motor-doping and reassure everyone in cycling that the sport is technologically clean. However, a RadioCycling investigation has found that, despite the UCI stating that “it carries out bike tests at all UCI men's and women's WorldTour events”, that is not the reality. Our canvassing of the 51 WorldTour and Women's WorldTour races reveals that there are huge holes in the technological testing programme, even extending to the Grand Tours, while at least one major stage race has not seen any testing since 2021. We dig into the details and ask the question: is the absence of tech fraud testing threatening cycling's credibility? We can't, of course, avoid the merger mayhem that's enveloped the sport. But is the reported fusion of Jumbo-Visma and Soudal-QuickStep simply an attempt to bring another big player back to the negotiating table? We pick over the latest rumours and discuss why this story provides another indication of cycling's flawed financial model. We then turn to Cat Ferguson, the outstandingly successful 17-year-old British junior who's signed a three-year deal with Movistar. We hear from her dad, Tim Ferguson, who provides the background to his daughter's transformation from Britain's second-best slalom skier to becoming the one rider almost every WorldTour team wanted to sign, and also hear about the Yorkshire team that's propelling Cat and a number of other girls to the top level. Esperanza and Irwin welcome the writer Tim Ferguson for a free wheeling dialogue on all things East End. Tim's resume includes being a columnist and op-ed editor at the Wall Street Journal and editor for Forbes Asia. Impressive as his body of work has been, it is his present day writing and blog posts specific to eastern Long Island that caught our attention. We've actually touched on some of Tim's articles in past episodes of Our Hamptons, including the 50 Year Anniversary of Bridgehampton Commons, and the Halt The Highway Movement of 1972. This particular era, the 60's, 70's 80's has always been a sweet spot for us. Totally relatable and within our lifetimes, but still hearkening back to a very different eastern Long Island.
This week Rowan Dean's very special guest on the “Outsiders” podcast is comedy legend Tim Ferguson. Describing himself as forever the ‘outsider' and contrarian, Tim's impressive 4 decade career saw him at the forefront of Australia's comedy heyday, as one of the original members of the world famous Doug Anthony Allstars. Tim and Rowan's hilarious chat explores the state of Australian comedy and politics and delves into Tim's childhood, his comedic genius and how he faced his MS diagnosis. Esperanza and Irwin go back 50 years to what may have been the brouhaha of the century on eastern Long Island. The proposed Highway Bypass was to go north of Route 27 through North Sea, Watermill, Bridgehampton, Sagaponack, Wainscott, East Hampton and ultimately ending in eastern Amagansett. "Build it and they shall come", was one perspective, saying traffic will be even worse. Farmland would be decimated. In a 1974 letter to the East Hampton Star, Tom Twomey, the Chair of the Halt The Highway committee claimed "the super highway will make our Town a bedroom community for migrants from Western Suffolk. They will skyrocket our taxes and make possible new giant shopping centers". But a 1974 Star editorial made the point that we can't turn back the clock, the people were already there garnered support from residents wanting the summer traffic eased. Hindsight is always 20/20. The writer Tim Ferguson's thought that "The protective impulse of 50 years ago just bought us more trouble today" is a point of view many believe. Let us know what you think after you listen!

Hard to believe, but 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of Bridgehampton Commons. Esperanza and Irwin dive head first into the writer Tim Ferguson's article "When A Shopping Mall Came To The Hamptons". One could argue that the Commons served as a metaphor for all the changes on the east end in the past half century. A shift in demographics, land use, development, the benefits of amenities and convenience at the cost of suburbanization. Are we grateful for it's presence? Was it the beginning of the end? Was there a grand anniversary celebration? We discuss all of that, and more!

Every Tuesday night, millions of people watched as comedian and TV host Tim Ferguson ran up and down the stairs among the crowd of "Don't Forget Your Toothbrush," with no one ever suspecting that he was hiding a disability. Tim was told he had a condition before the show began, but he chose not to disclose it for fear of hurting his chances of landing the hosting gig. "If you look at old tapes, you can tell my eyes are fairly visibly crossed," Tim said. What can I say that hasn't already been said? There's a temptation because it's the last show to try to share something that's the most valuable thing, that summarises the last 200 weeks of my life. THE BAZURA PROJECT'S RADIO FREE CINEMATHE TV SHOW ABOUT MOVIES IS NOW A RADIO PROGRAM RELEASED AS A PODCASTOn 29 September 2011, The Bazura Project's Guide To Sinema, a comedy series devoted to exploring cinematic sins, began its extremely limited run on the ABC. Now, exactly ten years later, the creators are back with their most exciting project yet: a press release. But it's a press release that's promoting their next thing, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema. As many will doubtless recall, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema was a huge hit, broadcast on an unspecified radio station an indeterminate number of years ago. Now, the recordings that everyone had believed (and hoped) were lost forever have been uncovered, digitised, cleaned up, edited for slander, and are now ready to be released on a podcast platform where they can be heard again… for the first time.Over six thrilling and definitely factual instalments, The Bazura Project's Radio Free Cinema will explore every possible aspect of the film world, including:interviews with the film industry's best and brightest, including: Aussie soap star-turned-Hollywood headliner, Amelia Bell-Jarman; the Oscar-winning producer of some of cinema's least challenging mid-brow works, Catarina Rice; achingly-dull minimalist Hungarian film composer Máté Lantos; and studio janitor from Hollywood's golden age, Jerry Schutzexclusive first-listen trailers for the most exciting new high-concept thrillers, low-concept romantic comedies, poorly-conceived fantasy adventures, crowd-placating dramas, and overstimulating kids' filmsoriginal songs from your favourite soundtracks and never-before-heard music from your least-favourite unreleased moviesdispatches from all around the world, including: an exclusive Sundance Film Festival premiere after-party; the world's greatest voice coaching academy on an island in the Baltic Sea; and a glamorous and exceedingly-morbid awards ceremony in the heart of Alaskaplus much, much more“It was always our plan to air six poorly-rated episodes on the endlessly-rebranded ABC2, disappear into obscurity for a decade, and then return with a six-episode podcast that wouldn't make us any money,” says co-creator and co-presenter Lee Zachariah.“The presently-oversaturated market of podcasts presented us with the perfect opportunity to release our own,” says co-creator and co-presenter Shannon Marinko. “If you manage to find it, and enjoy it, it's probably someone else's.”The show will feature an overstuffed cast that includes Tom Ballard, Rusty Berther, Kristy Best, Robyn Butler, Rhonda Burchmore, Santo Cilauro, Marc Fennell, Tim Ferguson, Abe Forsythe, Bob Franklin, Francis Greenslade, Tosh Greenslade, Roz Hammond, Stephen Hall, Andrew Hansen, Peter Helliar, Tegan Higginbotham, Ming-Zhu Hii, Adam Hills, Claire Hooper, Wayne Hope, Dan Ilic, Laura Hughes, Mark Humphries, Nazeem Hussain, Ed Kavalee, Christopher Kirby, Colin Lane, Tommy Little, Cassandra Magrath, Tony Martin, Shaun Micallef, Rhys Muldoon, Brian Nankervis, Celia Pacquola, Geraldine Quinn, Ben Russell, John Safran, Kat Stewart, Emily Taheny, Chris Taylor, Dave Thornton, Toby Truslove, Michael Veitch, Cal Wilson, and many, many more. The six-part series begins on October 5 on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Radio Public, or directly via our website: bazuraproject.com/radiofreecinemaThe trailer is available to hear now via this link. The Bazura Project began its life on community television in 2006, running for 36 episodes across three seasons on Channel 31 Melbourne, TVS Sydney, 31 Brisbane, and C31 Adelaide. Welcome to episode eighty-three of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast! In this episode, we sit down with Jonathan Story and Tim Ferguson of Team It Be Me Me Me and Timothy. They are a Swimrun team out of Charlotte, North Carolina and they are one of only four U.S. teams to qualify for the ÖTILLÖ World Championship this year. This is a fun one!But first... Training UpdateIt's race week...finally! We know we say this a lot, but we're super stoked to be heading to Portland to race Ödyssey Swimrun's Casco Bay race for a second time. Stay tuned for our race report on next week's show.ShoutoutThis week we're shouting out Sarah and Miriam from Team PB and Bananas. They are a new team out of Petaluma, CA and happen to train at our pool. We love their enthusiasm (they definitely remind us of all the fun we had when we first got into the sport) and it's safe to say that they are super stoked on Swimrun. Follow their adventures on Instagram as they train for Ödyssey Swimrun's Ludington race in October.Feats of EnduranceThis week's award goes to Jett Rosner. He posted a treadmill workout that had one of the best titles that we've seen in the Strava Club. His 5 mile run was called “Decent treadmill run (listened to the Low Tide Boyz Casco Bay Race Briefing!! Got hyped at the end and dropped a 6:10 last mile so the average pace was skewed).” Jett got us hyped!Check out our Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for Swimruns and stuff. This Week in SwimrunWe've missed a few weeks of updates so instead of looking back, in this edition we're looking forward in time to chat about upcoming news and events. The Ödyssey Swimrun race season starts this weekend with Casco Bay. We can't wait to participate in the long course distance and see everyone! In other Swimrun news from the U.S., Swimrun Georgia is back! This year's race is scheduled for October 10. The course looks awesome and it's a great first race for anyone who is curious about Swimrun. On the other side of the Atlantic...ÖTILLÖ is hosting its second race of the year this weekend in Gothenburg. The start list is stacked with a ton of talented teams for the 35km World Series distance race as teams try one last time to qualify for this year's ÖTILLÖ World Championship on September 6. The Västeras Swimrun recently confirmed that their race on September 4th is happening and the race is filling up fast so make sure to register if you are in Sweden or want to go to Sweden for this event. Our friends at EX Swimrun are introducing a new Swimrun term that they hope will catch on: SWIFA (Swim Factor). Basically it's a measure of how much swimming in relation to running a Swimrun course has. The higher the SWIFA, the more swimming a course has. They adapted the term from running and cross country skiing which uses the term STIFA to take into account elevation on a course. We think that it could be a helpful way to help people select and prepare for events.Speaking of EX Swimrun, their EX21 Fall Edition is taking place on September 19. With a SWIFA score of 21.7%, this race is not for the faint of heart with long swims and tough trails. Also the race starts with a 6 meter cliff jump. Sounds like a ton of fun! That's it for this week. Reach out to us with any news that you'd like for us to share on the show.UpdatesMake sure to check out our latest episode of Gear Talk where the gang talks about gear considerations for this weekend's Casco Bay race. This is the final reminder about our Casco Bay race after-party taking place at Lone Pine Brewery starting at 5:30ish. Look for the blue LTBz flag when you get there. Hope to see you all there!Team It Be Me Me Me and TimothyIt was great to chat with Jonathan and Tim about their Swimrun journey and their quest to qualify and race the ÖTILLÖ World Championship. It was inspiring to hear how they just put that goal out there and went and achieved it. As one of only four teams heading over from the U.S. to race the original Swimrun, they are representing the growing Swimrun scene in the U.S. In this interview, we chatted with them about how they discovered Swimrun and became partners, why they decided to try to qualify for worlds, how they are training for the big dance, and a lot more. These guys are great ambassadors for the sport and we will definitely be rooting for them next month. That's it for this week's show. The words 'adversity' and 'inspiring' get thrown around a lot in the world of sports but it is these two words that sum up this weeks guest Benny Roche and the team that he represents - the Australia Pararoo Football Team. The Pararoo's are Australia's national football team for athletes with cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury or symptoms acquired from stroke but don't let their perceived disabilities fool you - these blokes are ferocious competitors with skills and work ethic that rival some of the best able bodied footballers around. On top of this, they are also role models in the community who despite being dealt some fairly shitty hands both personally and professionally, continue to work hard and not let these challenges get in the way of where they are going and what they want to achieve. Benny's story from living with the daily struggles and adversity associated with CP - to representing his country on 54 occasions (scoring 30 goals) - to saving the CP Football program here in Australia by raising $160k in under 8 weeks (when the Australia Sports Commission cut their funding) is fair dinkum one of the best stories we've come across whilst doing this podcast. And if you're inspired further by what you hear today, then check out this extraordinary documentary by Tim Ferguson (in the link below) that explores in detail many of the players and stories discussed in today's podcast.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kjh1FmCDAYAlso on the Ball and All podcast this week, we look back on all the action from the first leg of the World Surfing League Australasian tour in Newcastle. The brain power of the guests, Tim Ferguson and Maynard, are severely tested in this first episode of the second season of The Saturday Quiz. They have almost zero knowledge of New Zealand autobiographers, and even less knowledge regarding Netball. But they can give you their opinions of James Bond songs... it's just a pity that there aren't any questions on that subject. Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/the-saturday-quiz.
