What a privilege to talk with rock royalty like Ian Gillan. Deep Purple's 24th studio album drops on July 3rd, called Splat! Ian and I talk about his love for making new music, working with legendary producer Bob Ezrin, and a newfound energy in the band. That energy? Guitarist Simon McBride. Ian reaped praise on Simon for bringing a new spirit to the fold. Besides talking about the new "heavier" album, I had to relay a story to Ian about the time brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul told me about the first song they ever played together: Smoke On The Water. They told me that it was a six-minute song, that they stretched out to about six hours!Up next is Buffalo, New York musician, Ryan Perdz. Ryan is dropping a new record this August and is here to tell me about it. Where did he get his musical influences? Where did he play around Buffalo? How did grunge affect him? He's got a real Chris Cornell sound to his vocals. He's playing a show at the El Club in Detroit on June 14th. Nedslagspunkter: - En velkommen genopstandelse til Mercyful Fate, der udgiver deres første album i ni år, “In The Shadows”.

Ozzy Osbournen ja Ronnie James Dion laulettua Black Sabbathin keulahahmoina, 1980-luvun alussa bändille koitti vaikea aikakausi. Sitä kutsutaan nimellä ”Lost Years”, hämärät vuodet. BEYOND PURPLE performs a showcase of the biggest hits from Deep Purple and Whitesnake, as well as Rainbow and Dio; all born out of the Deep Purple family tree. The band faithfully re-creates the vivid experience of live, high-energy music from what many consider to be Rock's greatest era. Beyond Purple consists of elite musicians with national ties, including guitarist Jimi Bell (Autograph, House of Lords); his amazing skills and prowess on guitar are truly world class. Mike Gill (Livesay, Johnny A.) is the lead voice of the band, with powerful soaring vocals in the style of Ian Gillan, David Coverdale, Graham Bonnet, Joe Lynn Turner, and Ronnie James Dio. His energetic stage presence brings every song to life. Drummer BJ Zampa (Dokken, House of Lords) pounds out thunderous beats with a huge groove that locks in the band on every note; he also contributes harmony vocals. Bassist Brian Camilleri rounds out the rhythm section, laying down the low-end thunder and locking in with BJ, to create a solid musical foundation. Welcome Gary Fox Jr. on keyboards and backing vocals, a long standing member of legendary Led Zeppelin tribute “Physical Graffiti”. His talent is beyond amazing. Their high energy show fully engages the crowd, with accurate song renditions that capture the raw energy and power that has made this style of music one of the most popular of all time. For info:https://www.beyondpurpleband.com/:
In this episode, I finally get to sit down with a man I've been chasing for more than four years — the incomparable Ian Gillan of Deep Purple. If you grew up on classic rock the way I did, you already know exactly what a monumental figure he is. Ian's the powerhouse vocalist who helped define the sound of hard rock, pushed the limits of vocal technique, and gave us some of the most enduring songs in modern music history. But this isn't your typical rock-star chat. Ian opens up about everything — from hearing Elvis for the first time and singing as a boy soprano to scraping by with half-broken instruments, makeshift drum kits, and a single pair of trousers he rotated with Roger Glover. He talks candidly about those early club days in Germany, the magic of the transistor radio, and how the surf-rock craze swept through London in the mid-60s.We dive right into the evolution of Episode Six, the songwriting partnership with Roger Glover, the birth of Deep Purple's legendary hard-rock sound, and the incredible creative chemistry that powered albums like In Rock, Fireball, and Machine Head. Ian shares what it was really like inside the whirlwind of fame — the money, the mayhem, the distractions, the growing pains, and the moment he realised the band's unity was starting to fracture. He also reflects on the pressures of success, the importance of staying true to your artistic identity, and why he ultimately walked away from one of the biggest bands in the world. It's raw, honest, funny, nostalgic, and full of the kind of stories only Ian Gillan can tell.If you love Deep Purple, classic rock history, behind-the-scenes stories, or simply a great conversation with a remarkably self-aware and entertaining storyteller, this episode is going to be a treat.Tune in and step inside the life, the voice, and the unstoppable spirit of Ian Gillan. To learn more about Ian head to:Ian Gillan (official site) www.gillan.comDeep Purple – official band site deep-purple.com deep-purple.comDeep Purple – Ian Gillan's page on band site deep-purple.com/band/ian-gillan/ deep-purple.com

We dig into the deep-cut history of Sabbath's early vocal experiments and the singer most fans have never heard about. • DOOR DINGS ON CARS A rant for the ages. When it comes to classic rock albums, few are as iconic as Machine Head by Deep Purple. Sidstnævnte med en sand metal schlager-slagsang i “Balls To The Wall”. Svaret følger pronto med årets debut album fra Metallica (“Kill ‘Em All”) og Slayer (“Show No Mercy”). - AC/DC producerer selv “Flick of the Switch” til kernefansene, mens ZZ Top laver moderne boogie rock på mega-sællerten “Eliminator”. - Motörhead får tilført feinschmecker guitarsoli fra Brian Robertson på “Another Perfect Day”, mens Robertsons gamle band Thin Lizzy afrunder i dynamisk stil med deres sidste studiealbum “Thunder and Lightning”. Albummet skiller vandene.
- Jungersen og Stützer jubler over Ozzys andet soloalbum Diary of a Madman og Motörheads vaskeægte livealbum No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith. I Helsinki albumdebuterer Motley Crües åndsbrødre i Hanoi Rocks. Sidstnævnte udgiver endda hele to album i 1981.

Ritchie Blackmore is known as a guitar legend and as one of the more mercurial figures in rock. The Rock N Roll Hall Of Famer rose to power with Deep Purple and unleashed some of the most classic, hard rock riffs on the world, including the simple and ever-present Smoke On The Water. But Ritchie was known to be aloof, distant from his bandmates and would often fly into critical rages about their performance. After the departure of Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, he was dissatisfied with the musical direction of the band. However, once he saw a diminutive American singer opening for Purple in a band called Elf, he started to devise a way out of DP. That singer was Ronnie James Dio, the powerhouse lead vocalist who would eventually move on to replace Ozzy in Black Sabbath (and record two killer Sabbath albums, Heaven And Hell & Mob Rules) and fill arenas in the 80s with his own band, Dio. After recording what was supposed to be two sides of a single, Ritchie knew that Ronnie was his ticket out of Purple and onto his own project. So with his bandmates from Elf, they recorded Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow showcasing Ronnie and showing the world the Ritchie still had the goods. Songs like Man on the Silver Mountain and Snakecharmer are built on the power of Ronnie's soaring vocals and Ritchie's heavy riffs. But songs like Catch The Rainbow show an almost proggy, fantasy side of the band as well as Temple of the King and Sixteenth Century Greensleaves. Of course, before the first tour Ritchie fired or scared off the remaining members of Elf to replace them with Jimmy Bain and Cozy Powell which led to a triumphant Rising the next year. But to celebrate the real worldwide introduction of Ronnie James Dio (he appeared on albums with Elf but they received nowhere near the exposure of working with Blackmore) at 50, we reminisce on how we discovered Ronnie, Rainbow and it's legacy today.
