The War for the Tower (A TRAPP Society Special Project)   Friends, welcome back, and thanks for listening to this very special episode. We'll have more Talon and our fresh new superheroes next week, but for this week I wanted to share something I've been working on that I'm really excited about. It's an actual play pod set in the world of Stephen King's Dark Tower. It features tons of other actual play podcasters (as well as some rad new arrivals as well as voice actors) and it's gonna be great. If you like this show, you're bound to love The War for the Tower. Our first five or so episodes are gonna be character creation and backstory episodes. Before we drop the first full group episode, we should have a website and Twitter and Patreon and all that stuff, but until then we'll be sharing these early eps on our own podcast feeds.    [a couple spoilers for the book series right here]   This first Backstories episode features Chase Greenlee, GM of Another Path, an awesome actual-play podcast. He's playing a young gunslinger, trained by Roland and one of only two survivors of the battle of Jericho Hill. He finds himself helping out a small town of kids, and gets in over his head.   [spoilers done]   This is the first of several Backstories episodes, and they're all great. If you'd like to help us make more of these, and especially to help us add music, spend more time editing, to create art for the facebook page, or all that other stuff that makes actual play pods so much fun, please consider donating to our Patreon. It's not up just yet, but it will be very soon. Until then you can help us out in a myriad of ways. Email us at: warforthetower@gmail.com   Help us make the best show we possibly can make, and make something that you can feel proud to have been a part of. Together, we can save the multiverse!   PS The system we're using to play this game is called Space Kings. It's a super robust, fast, exciting, and easy to play game created by the awesomely cool and funny Kevin Cole of the podcast Pretend Friends. Find him on twitter: @RealKevinCole

Okay now hear us out. This is going to be a long and nearly unlistenable journey, but if you're going to understand the argument that this episode's title puts forth then you're going to have to sit through a lot of bad guitar playing. We're also going to have to spoil both Mr. Robot and Stephen King's Dark Tower series so make sure not to listen until you've watched that entire TV series and read those seven gigantic novels. Still with us? Okay, let's go. Also: Steve Martin solipsism, CNCNBC, Salvador Dali: explained, and the Oval Office The Office.

OH, THE CLOWN-MANITY! In this 1980 Atari game, clown after clown face-plants under the Big Top trying to bounce off a trampoline onto a teeter-totter. After then leaping from the teeter-totter and popping some balloons, you, player, are supposed to catch them. But you can't. Because you stink at this game. Or maybe...it's serial clown murder. Either way, this is good, family, slaughter-fun. Pass the circus peanuts and let's do this. WARNING: At about the ten minute-thirty-eight-second mark, I more or less spoil the ending to Stephen King's DARK TOWER novel series. It seemed like a good idea at the time. You might want to skip from about 10:37 to 10:47. Sorry. My thanks to Kevin McLeod at Incompetech.com for the use of his songs "Take a Chance", "Reformat" and "Pinball Spring".

Thanks to Alicia Goranson (The Mask Of Inanna) for encouraging Peter Gruenbaum to submit this delightful re-imagining of an apocryphal work by C.S. Lewis, "The Sting of the Dark Tower" (not to be confused with Stephen King's Dark Tower!).C.S. Lewis is invited to visit a lab in 1940’s Cambridge England where he is shown a device called a “chronoscope” that does to time what a telescope does to space. The chronoscope shows strange images of a dark tower ruled by men with stingers on their foreheads. An accident with the machine results in minds being switched between Cambridge and the dark tower. In the present, a precocious teenager and her mysterious nanny explore and ultimately complete this work of fiction that was discovered after C.S. Lewis’s death. The Sting of the Dark Tower asks the questions: How are Lewis’s ideas relevant to today? How might the story have been written if it had our modern viewpoint?Voiced by professional actors and with an original score for classical saxophone quartet, The Sting of the Dark Tower will take you back in time, sideways in time, and perhaps get you to think about who are our own men with stingers.Download Radio Drama Revival - Episode 409The post Episode 409 – Bracing for the Sting of the Dark Tower appeared first on Radio Drama Revival.
