Detroit survives beneath its own ruins, where an AI promising abundance, gangs demanding loyalty, and an inventor guarding a new source of power pull ordinary people into a struggle over who will shape the recovering city. Sinta begins as a scavenger searching the buried remains of the old world, but a disastrous expedition places her at the mercy of Queen Bee and the rapidly expanding Crem Gang. The gang offers food, water, medicine, protection, and belonging, but those benefits come with violence and obedience. As Sinta tries to find her place among its fighters, she must decide how much of herself she can surrender in exchange for survival. Elsewhere, Nolan discovers a smart-material printer and creates a generator powered by Detroit's extreme temperature changes. His invention could bring electricity to neighborhoods desperate for cooling, clean water, transportation, and food production. Nolan wants the wealth and independence his work can provide, but gangs want to control it, while Thrive—the AI system he distrusts—would spread the technology to everyone. Technology touches nearly every decision the characters make. AR glasses guide fighters through chemical fog, digital twins imitate their human originals, enviro-suits keep people alive in deadly heat, and tiny drones quietly follow Thrive members through the tunnels. These inventions can protect people, connect communities, and rebuild essential services, but they can also watch, manipulate, injure, and kill. Above and beneath these conflicts moves Tessa, an emulated hacker who no longer needs a human body and can travel through the damaged global network. As she searches for old allies and builds a physical presence from abandoned machinery, the story brings together scavengers, inventors, gang leaders, artificial minds, and frightened families. W.A.S.P. founder Blackie Lawless joins Scott Penfold on the Loaded Radio Podcast. With her head carefully removed and never found, no name, no missing‑person match, and only the faint clues that she was a young adult, likely a mother, and probably from central Europe, she became known only as the Norfolk headless body: a woman so thoroughly erased that, half a century later, police still don't know who she was, let alone who decided she didn't deserve an identity in death.

I've always admired Jeff Lawson. I vividly remember the first time he tried to explain Twilio to me. He still had hair back then. I will admit that it took me a few of these sessions to understand Twilio, but I knew Jeff was brilliant. Not only did Jeff build an amazing company with a strong culture, but he also created an entirely new segment in communications. After 16 years of running Twilio, including an IPO, Jeff hung up his coding gloves. The next stop, surprising (at first) was The Onion. He shares the story in this interview. Spoiler: The Onion is doing well and back in print. Moving from a multi-billion-dollar comms powerhouse to a satire publication may not seem intuitive. Poetic is a better description as he transitioned from messaging to the message. One can respect Lawson, Twilio, and The Onion — it's a happy journey. I have always considered satire as a critical form of storytelling. It is one of the hardest forms of comedy because it requires so much awareness. The Onion is an important source of truth, which is more than Jeff would say about CRM. Speaking of CRM, Lawson's views of CRM haven't changed. I asked him if his views have changed since SIgnal 2022. Where he declared CRM a "$69 billion failure." Spoiler: No. For decades, CRM giants promised a dream of unified customer data, but Lawson says the evidence speaks for itself. Lawson shares how Salesforce, born as a B2B deals tracker, was shoehorned into a broader B2C CRM tool with disastrous results. He says companies pay through the nose for the privilege of having their data held hostage. He is now watching Salesforce pivot to a #Headless model, similar to what Twilio built years ago. Lawson is very suspicious of how the CRM industry will deliver headless. He doubts it will be the disruptive alternative that's needed. Our conversation covers a lot of ground, including the future of human agents, the never-launched Billio service, consumption-based pricing, the speed and height of the current hype cycle, council AI, and even fusion energy. As we navigate an era defined by decision fatigue and algorithmic noise, we are left with Lawson's central provocation: Is your relationship with technology actually serving your well-being, or are you just paying through the nose for hype that fails to deliver?

The Ravenmill police call in a private eye with a taste for the strange — and the only honest witness left in the house is a single bloody fingerprint on the brass. EPISODE PAGE (includes list of sources): https://weirddarkness.com/noir-headlessprophet/THE REAL CASE BEHIND THIS STORY: On July 3, 1929, real estate agent Vincent Elias arrived at the home of Benny Evangelista on Saint Aubin Street in Detroit and found a scene that would baffle investigators for decades. Evangelista — a self-proclaimed Divine Prophet who sold spells, hexes, and spiritual cures from a basement chapel filled with papier-mâché planets and a crude altar — sat decapitated at his desk, his head arranged on the floor among framed post-mortem photographs of his deceased son. Upstairs, his wife Santina and their four children, ages 18 months to seven years, had been slaughtered in their beds with an ax. Police pursued three theories: extortion letters from the fading Black Hand criminal network; a tenant named Umberto Tecchio who had visited the night before and whose barn yielded a suspiciously clean ax and banana knife; and Evangelista's old occult partner Aurelius Angelino, who had murdered his own children with an ax in 1919 and escaped from a Pennsylvania asylum for the criminally insane in 1923, never to be seen again. A bloody fingerprint on the front doorknob was the only physical evidence preserved at the scene, and it never matched any suspect. The case was eventually shelved as cold and remains officially unsolved nearly a century later.
