The Ka-tet picks up exactly where we left off: on the beaches of Midworld, with Roland Deschain. (If none of that makes any sense to you, go listen to episode one of the Dark Tower Deep Dive immediately) Nat Cassidy, Chris Panatier and I gather for a long, philosophical, expletive-littered conversation about Book 2: The Drawing of the Three. We get further into the character of Roland and his quest, and spend some time with the gaggle of oddballs he meets along his scenic tour of the coast. The seafood is particularly tasty! It's good to be talking Tower again. Enjoy. Majstro Falchilo Kredo has devoted his life to protecting the abandoned earth colony of Duatero from Malamiko, the indigenous ecosystem that makes their crops fail and whose contamination turns humans into mindless monsters. But Malimiko is changing, becoming more dangerous, more aware, even as the ancient technology they use to combat it fails piece by precious piece. Kredo and his fellow soldiers must risk everything or see all they hold precious wiped away and forgotten.Kredo is prepared to sacrifice himself—and anyone around him—to do his duty. But what if the price demanded is even higher?“Combines power armoured soldiers from the pages of sci-fi pulps, a world as intriguing yet bleak as Mid-World from Stephen King's Dark Tower, and an evil as terrifying and paranoia inducing as John Carpenter's The Thing. Stephen King and Peter Straub's Black House is an odd duck, a behemoth of a sequel (to The Talisman) that's as grisly as it is hilarious. In this episode, the Losers grapple with the story's tonal irregularities and celebrate its unbridled nastiness. They also discuss its role as a narrative bridge in King's Dark Tower saga, and how its portrait of Mid-World dovetails with the fantasy world of The Talisman. Is its stark portrait of good and evil simplistic or subversive?Follow us on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On this special episode of Cinedicate, chase after the Man in Black on our quest towards the nexus of all time and space. Joey and Christian join the cinematic roundtable as we discuss Stephen King's magnum opus and its terrible film adaptation, The Dark Tower. The Man in Black fled across the desert and The Gunslinger followed. The Dark Tower series follows Roland, the last of a long line of gunslingers, his world's version of a knight. His quest is to reach The Tower as his world, Mid-World, falls into decay around him. Stephen King over the course of seven novels combined the genres of Western, Fantasy, Science-Fiction, and Noir. In 2017, someone thought it would be a great idea to boil it all down in a 90-minute film. Listen now as we detail why this was a horrible decision. Connect with Cinedicate on these social platforms! More specifically, Losers Michael Roffman and Jenn Adams speak to Bookstagram icon Johann Trotter, writer-filmmaker-archivist John Campopiano, and Stephen Kingcast host Cooper O'Connor. Together, they discuss why they keep hitting the stacks, why they keep flipping through the pages, and why they spend hours, days, months, and years in King's Dominion. Just when you thought the Wheel of Ka was over, and after 7 books of re-reads and discussion about Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, Derek and Steve return with the coda. We sat and reflected on the time, and gunslinger-esque dedication it took to complete our side project, and realized we had just one more episode of the Path of the Beam. In an interview style bonus, Derek asks Steve several questions about the books, what connects them, their strengths, their weaknesses, and debate like two old stars in a constellation over Midworld, locked in dialogue, trapped in gravity, and forever repeating. We hope you enjoy this bonus, and remember, all things, even the Beams serve the Tower, why would this podcast be any different? — The Midnight Myth stands with Black Lives Matter and those protesting social injustice across our country. Rishi: Bharadvaaja May my ongoing Tapas be beneficial to Heaven, Earth, the Mid-World, the Guardians, The Sun and The wind gods. O Gods, masters of sacrifice, From Bharadwaja I received this knowledge. May those that impede our disciplines be themselves cast into great difficulties. O Indra, the illumined mind, hear me thus. Those who are impure in heart and intent be cut down, like a tree with an axe. I accept the benefits of the sacrifice of the force of desire, direct to our Fathers accompanied by the Sama chant of three and eighty mantras. The Adityas, Vasus and Angiras propel me into the divine flame. May the splendour of Heaven and Earth reflect in me. May all the gods and realised fathers rejoice with me. Let all opposition fall back into their own evil nature. O Maruts, those who in their superiority, look down on our sacrifices, may they be weakened. They find no place In heaven. With my Mantras, I break the seven pranic knots and eight energy blocks. The power of this mantra, carried by the flames will reach the god of Death. In this fire, you reside. The fire enters your body and your breath give s power to your words.

Happy Thanksgiving! It's a small celebration of Food and Stephen King, in his stories -- from It to Thinner, from The Briar Rose Cafe in Cutter's Mill to Midworld itself to that ... unfortunate incident at The Gotham Cafe -- and from real life, including real, live King-inspired foods, some great web sites for King-culinary weirdness, and a re-visit to our very own DMoSK Kitchen for a testing of the latest Red Apron recipes. Good news: some of us actually survive. Enjoy ... and have a great holiday!

On this episode of the B&N Podcast we're bringing you our final installment of our special podcast series King of the Dark, one devoted to a project that has been woven through most of Stephen King's career, the multi-volume fantasy epic The Dark Tower. The Dark Tower began with King's 1982 novel The Gunslinger, and unfolded over the course of seven numbered books and 22 years, a sprawling saga of wild west outlaws and powerful sorcery, of a quest through ages and a tower that spans universes. That would be a massive creation for any author, but King's Dark Tower is unique in that it's a world that keeps bleeding into and crossing over with his other stories in ways large and small, so that the Dark Tower's Mid-World begins to look like a secret network of passageways that interlink King's entire body of work. Liz Braswell, Louis Peitzman and Bill Tipper are joined for this conversation by B&N Science Fiction and Fantasy blog editor Joel Cunningham, who has spent more time in the Dark Tower world than any of the rest of us.
The Man in Black fled across the desert, and The Gunslinger followed... and behind him came Liam and Matt to debate the 2017 cinematic interpretation of Stephen King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower, adapted for the screen by ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Writer, Director and Executive Producer, Akiva Goldsman. Liam compares the film to ‘Last Action Hero’, hates on Jake's deadbeat parents and realises that we still haven't cracked the art of CGI flame hands, while Matt tells the tale of his not-so-epic quest to track down all the books in the series, breaks down the three cardinal sins of shitty exposition and struggles to synopsise this complex, genre-hybrid on a brain-meltingly hot day. We also discuss the new TV reboot of the franchise and other King Properties and lament the lost Dark Tower adaptation from the team behind... LOST! Long days and pleasant nights, constant streamers. It's finally here, our seemingly unending path of the Beam to the release of The Dark Tower starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. On this very special episode of High Five: The Podcast, we've gathered our Ka-Tet for a viewing party of this anticipated epic and will let you listen in on our unfiltered thoughts of Nikolaj Arcel's adaptation of Stephen King's magnum opus series. For this in-depth review, we've gathered three different viewpoints: a Dark Tower book series über-fan, a casual reader of some of the books, and a total Mid-World noobie, to dive into topics like "Does this work as a film if you haven't read the books?", "How will this movie play for King's constant readers?", and "Why aren't there more talking raccoons in The Dark Tower?" Whether you know nothing about the movie or books and just have a crush on Idris Elba (guilty!), or whether you've been tracking this film for the past 10 years of production missteps, this episode has just what you're searching for.
Chris and Eric are joined by Crimson Son author Russ Linton to journey to Mid-World for a look at an adaptation ten years in the making The Dark Tower. The film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black as Roland attempts to stop the oncoming darkness and save the Dark Tower. It's a lackluster, muddied affair that falls flat and hurts any chances of future adaptations of King's seminal piece. As always, you can follow Chris Stachiw on Twitter at @KultureStach, Eric Kniss at @tychomagnetics and Kulture Shocked at @KultureShocked. The music is Wovoka's "Lament", and Da DeCypher's "Two Step featuring Ben-Jamin"; big thanks to both for allowing us to use their tracks. Let's take a breather and get to know each other. This week, Jeremy Greer and Paddy Smith come along to talk about what happens when a full ka-tet is formed. Jake is firmly in Mid-World, and he's even attracted a furry friend. This chapter is a much-needed break, as the gang finds their first friendly civilization and finally compares notes on where they came from.

This is what it's like when worlds collide. This week, the Greer family (Jeremy and Autumn) tag along to talk about the convergence of Jake and Roland's realities. As Roland's crew crosses into Mid-World, Jake follows Eddie in the past to a haunted mansion. One heightened and violent scene later, our Ka-Tet is that much closer to completion.
Do you even read books, bro? You know, those things made of paper that used to be in libraries before Amazon and the Kindle were invented. Well, at High Five: The Podcast we love it when we can skip a book and just watch the movie instead (like we did in high school), but that doesn't mean we excuse it when a movie adaptation of a good book is total shit. So, to honor that tradition, J & Q snuck into a library after closing and warded off all the librarian ghosts to sit down and talk about what it means to make a quality book-to-movie adaptation. It turned out to be good timing too because the day we committed B & E (booking-and-entering), Sony finally released the TrailerTown for The Dark Tower. We started our journey in Mid-World and ended up talking about what makes a good adaptation, what makes crappy one, and which ones we can't wait to see. So, close that book you aren't reading and listen to us talk about books you should read after you see their movies, so you can be one of those pretentious jerks that always says, "Eh, the book was better."
Hile Gunslingers, join the boys in a palaver digging deep into the books of the Dark Tower Series. Tadd and Peter continue on the journey to the Dark Tower as they follow Roland into the cellar to get supplies for the journey ahead. There Roland faces a speaking demon. Along with some Palaver with Jake and eventually a trip down memory lane. They see Cort the hard case who is teaching the children. As well as Hax the cook who has some maleficence afoot. As well as Steven Deschain, the father of Roland. So grab your copy of the Gunslinger and join DTP through a door back to Mid-World. If you want to join in on the Book Club Palaver email the show and put Book Club in the subject line.
Come fellow Ka-Tet, let us palaver. Let's head back to Mid-World and determine the top moments from the Dark Tower saga!
I don't think any of us expected a return to Mid-World, but I'm not complaining! Though the journey might be over, All-World is a large and mysterious, and I want to spend more time there. And that's exactly what we get with this episode!
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen! In this week's episode, the first of a two part review, I analyze the strengths and weaknesses of King's swan song of Mid-World and his decades long story of the Gunslinger's quest to reach the fabled Dark Tower.
In this episode Tadd and Peter read the first few emails then tackle some book topics like; what (if any) Mid-World speech has worked into your everyday vocabulary, what is each of the Ka-Tet's best moment in the books, what is each of the Tet's lowest moment in each book, and how have the boy's views on the series changed on subsequent read-throughs, as well as talk a tiny bit about the adaptation and if a certain villainous character can be removed from the adaptation in total. As well give some details about the first of the Book Club episodes which starts next episode with the beginning of The Gunslinger. Don't worry the next Round Table (after the first book club episode) we will dive into discussing the ending. Email your thoughts about the beginning of The Gunslinger for next weeks Book club discussion of The Gunslinger.
