The third Let Us Palaver minisode (though this one is not so mini) – in which Nat and I reflect on The Waste Lands in full spoiler mode…and say REALLY mean things about Chris and his hurtful opinions. We're finally on the path of The Beam. The Dark Tower Readalong reaches the land of wonder and ruination, in Book 3, The Waste Lands. Accompanied by Nat and Chris, we battle the great bear, get dirty in the speaking ring, and brave the streets of Lud. But we also have the first quake in our Ka-tet, when Chris offers the most egregiously wrong opinion that anyone could offer on these books. You may agree with him… but if you do, we have a problem. I have never cursed or yelled so much on this show before!! Nonetheless, we have fun, we push on, and we're still friends (just about). Enjoy! Fantasy author Sarah Brooks is a writer living in Leeds. She won the Lucy Cavendish Prize in 2019 and a Northern Debut Award from New Writing North in 2021. She works in East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds, where she helps run the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing. She is co-editor of Samovar, a bilingual online magazine for translated speculative fiction. The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wastelands is her debut novel and has been published by Weidenfeld and Nicolson in the UK and Flatiron Books in the US in June 2024.For fans of Piranesi and The Midnight Library, a stunning historical fantasy novel set on a grand express train, about a group of passengers on a dangerous journey across a magical landscapeIt is said there is a price that every passenger must pay. A price beyond the cost of a ticket. There is only one way to travel across the Wastelands: on the Trans-Siberian Express, a train as famous for its luxury as for its danger. The train is never short of passengers, eager to catch sight of Wastelands creatures more miraculous and terrifying than anything they could imagine. But on the train's last journey, something went horribly wrong, though no one seems to remember what exactly happened. Not even Zhang Weiwei, who has spent her life onboard and thought she knew all of the train's secrets. Now, the train is about to embark again, with a new set of passengers. Among them are Marya Petrovna, a grieving woman with a borrowed name; Henry Grey, a disgraced naturalist looking for redemption; and Elena, a beguiling stowaway with a powerful connection to the Wastelands itself. Weiwei knows she should report Elena, but she can't help but be drawn to her. As the girls begin a forbidden friendship, there are warning signs that the rules of the Wastelands are changing and the train might once again be imperiled. Can the passengers trust each other, as the wildness outside threatens to consume them all?https://www.instagram.com/sarah_l_brooksVOX VOMITUS: Sometimes, it's not what goes right in the writing process, it's what goes horribly wrong.Host Jennifer Anne Gordon, award-winning gothic horror novelist and Co-Host Allison Martine, award-winning contemporary romance and speculative fiction novelist have taken on the top and emerging new authors of the day, including Josh Malerman (BIRDBOX, PEARL), Paul Tremblay (THE PALLBEARERS CLUB, SURVIVOR SONG), May Cobb (MY SUMMER DARLINGS, THE HUNTING WIVES), Amanda Jayatissa (MY SWEET GIRL), Carol Goodman (THE STRANGER BEHIND YOU), Meghan Collins (THE FAMILY PLOT), and dozens more in the last year alone. Hello and welcome back to the Constant Reader Podcast, with me Richard Sheppard. Thanks for your kind words about my last interview with James Michels, author of the Melody of Shattered Gold, which is now available on amazon. It's well worth picking up, the ending is a real gut punch, and the journey is a wild ride. Speaking of wild rides, today we are going to be looking at the third volume in King's Dark Tower Series, the Wastelands. If i complained last time that the Drawing of the Three didn't really have Roland and ka-tet travelling very far, this volume more than makes up for it. It begins with Roland and Jake chambers fixing the psychic rupture caused by Roland abandoning Jake in the Gunslinger, and then going back to fix it by killing Jake's assassins Jack Mort. It then moves on to the journey to the City of Lud, caught in a Civil War. This is resolved in apocalyptic fashion and the group barely manage to escape the cataclysm on a sentient, suicidal monorail. Heady stuff, and I am honored and privileged as always to have the first lady of Stephen King podcasters, Kim C herself, with me on the quest for the Dark Tower. Kim is a university lecturer in creative writing, who has been educating and entertaining the Stephen King fanbase for a while now with her podcast, The Year of Underrated Stephen King and it's patreon, the Danse Macabre
With business in Osthmana soon to be concluded for the moment recent events push the group towards the Hall of Bones in search of answers. As always answers come with more questions and even more unexpected turns. The StrangeCast hosts also share their feelings on podcasting, interviewing people tied to the Life Is Strange series and more! Our main topic is none other than a big focus on Life Is Strange publisher Square Enix after it laid off staff, its stock price took a tumble and it has now changed its overall business plan. Let's talk... ☕️ StrangeCast can be accessed on the following podcast services (among many others!) below.

Imagine trying to gauge the size of a mushroom cloud with nothing but your thumb—sounds like something straight out of a survival manual, right? In the pilot episode of the much-anticipated "Fallout" series, we glimpse just that: a sly nod to the grim humor and post-apocalyptic survival themes that gamers and new viewers can equally appreciate.Today, we're diving into the wasteland to discuss Amazon's surprise midweek bombshell, the release of "Fallout." From the intriguing setup of a character leaving the vault in search of her father to the meticulous inclusion of Pip Boys, Nuka Colas, and Radaways, this show packs a punch that lands us right in the world we've spent countless hours exploring through our controllers. We've got Kenny, swept by nostalgia from his "Fallout 3" days, and Jonathan, with his sharp observations on narrative choices that shaped the series' direction. While we explore the nods and references that resonate with our love for the video game franchise, we can't help but add our two cents about a certain plot twist and how we would steer the narrative arc if we had the pen. What's a discussion without a little creative reimagining?Tune in as we unravel the layered storytelling of "Fallout." We loiter at the intersection of familiar and fresh, discussing everything from Max's potential to ghoul dynamics and those choice surprise cameos. And don't worry—we've got a protective vault of our own ideas just waiting to be opened for future episodes.DISCLAIMER: Spoiler alert! "We're Too Literary" will dive deep into the folds of the narrative, characters, and world-building aspects of the media we dissect. Our conversations are filled with analysis and reimagining, which are crucial for offering our take on how the story unfolds. Thanks for tuning in and getting literary with us.

Derek and Noah leave their vault to review Prime Video's Fallout! The series takes place 200 years after a nuclear war devastated the planet, forcing people into underground vaults or to fend for themselves on the surface. The show follows three different characters as they survive their radiation soaked surroundings: vault dweller Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell), Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul (Walton Goggins). We'll also add the best boy of the Wastelands, CX404. On the menu: Lucy's life in and out of the vault, The Ghoul's long, long road to answers, Maximus's choices, Pip-Boys, Kyle MacLachlan's career, what lingering questions we need answers to in season two and more! CalmRadio.UpliftingPills.com Instagram.com/UpliftingPills In my series of mixes dedicated to phenomenal artists that continue to inspire this podcast, I present to you Hong Kong-based producer Ben Tatlow, the man behind Antarctic Wastelands project. Drawing inspiration from an imaginary beautiful and desolate environment, Tatlow's ambient compositions, aptly taglined as “soundtracks for wandering souls”, are characterized by luminous textures and depths that immerse you in a realm where tranquility intertwines with profound sense of introspection and awe. With his two featured tracks in this mix as source of inspiration, I strove to seamlessly fuse soundscapes that transport you to abandoned, weather-beaten landscapes. Wander with me on this sonic journey. Let's embrace both the vastness of space and the intimacy of solitude. Check out Antarctic Wastelands wherever you get your music. You'll be in for a treat! Is Mad Max: Fury Road the most Christian movie ever made? Maybe. Go watch it, then listen in as we discuss the symbols, types, and meaning of this post-apocalyptic chase scene. This over saturated film is layered like an onion soaked in gasoline. Here is the video essay we discussed.
The Sound Chaser Progressive Rock Podcast is on the air. The show this time is part 2 of the 10th anniversary of the Sound Chaser Podcast. In part 1, I brought you music from six albums for each of the years 2014-2018, the first half of Sound Chaser's existence. Now I bring you music from six albums for each year of the span 2019 to 2023. I reiterate that I am not saying that these albums are the best of their issue years. I claim only that I enjoy listening to these albums and think they are representative of progressive music in the last 10 years. Playlist20191. IZZ - Moment of Inertia, from Don't Panic2. In No Man's Land, allies are few and far between (much like oases). Here's hoping Glimmer's mysterious friend, and their suspiciously vast intel, holds water. In other news, Hali tries to flirt and then the party indulges in some desert delicacies.
Today on the Matt Walsh Show, San Francisco has been a dystopian wasteland filled with homeless drug addicts for many years. Yet with the communist leader of China coming to town, it has managed to make itself look clean and presentable. This proves that these problems are easy to solve, if only our leaders had the will to solve them. Also, Tim Scott ends his presidential campaign, which comes as news to millions of people who didn't know he had a presidential campaign. Vivek Ramaswamy announces his plan to fire 50 percent of the federal government workforce. I'll explain why that doesn't go far enough. And we're being told that "climate anxiety" is on the rise? What is that? And aren't there much better things to be anxious about? Ep.1261 - - - DailyWire+: Want to work at The Daily Wire?
