Today, we're unlocking our debut episode of the Dark Tower Detour, our Patreon-exclusive series that studies the minutiae of Roland Deschain's epic quest. Hosted by Dan Pfleegor and Dan Caffrey, this exclusive series covers a range of topics that interest those who remember the face of their father. No character is too small. No detail too obscure. This kickoff episode -- recorded in September 2021 -- sees the Dans joined by Kingslingers co-hosts Scott Daly and Matt Freeman. Together, this blessed ka-tet bring its expertise to the ill-fated Battle of Jericho Hill, a tragic bloodbath mentioned in passing across several installments of the series. If you recall, the event was finally explored in full during a five-issue Marvel comic book run that ran from December 2009 to April 2010. Using that as a stepping stone, your heroes will examine the minds behind these comics, break down the belligerents on either side of the battle, and discuss the canonical significance of the Horn of Eld in this world and others. If you like this episode, you can find more installments of the Dark Tower Detour, including our latest episode that studies the similarities between The Dark Tower and The Lord of the Rings, by joining The Barrens: patreon.com/thebarrens, In addition to the Detour, we have close to a thousand hours of content waiting to be unpacked. This week on Heard Tell: Twice On SundayHeard Tell favorite, and Ordinary Times contributor Jericho Hill who joins us to talk about the economy in very practical, real life ways. Jericho talks about the weird, unusal, and seemingly contradictory economic numbers and headlines, what is causing them, and what it all means. Plus, we get into some really practical economic application based of a hiring advertisement at a popular fast food chain, and what it tells us about workers, employers, labor market, and the current issues in the service sector economy.Sarah Stook who returns to Heard Tell to conclude her series on the First Ladies of the United States. We talk through the modern era of women of the White House from Jackie Kennedy to current occupent Dr. Jill Biden, and the history, stories, and personalities of the first ladies in between. Sarah also talks about how the role has evolved over the year, media and public perseptions have changed, and what the future might hold for the evolving role of being the spouse to the president.Elise Amez-Droz who brings her experience with health care policy to talk about the looming insolvency of the Hospital Insurance Trust Fund, the funding mechanism for Medicare Part A, and how the date of that failure keeps moving closure with current events. Elise explains what got us to this point, why no one seems willing to talk about or do anything to avert the crisis, and what it means for the country if the "trust fund" fails.James Czerniawski is back to once again hash out the ongoing Elon Musk v Twitter saga we've been covering - not to mention news and social media has been obsessing over - since April. James breaks down not only the tech side, but how a unique part of the legal system now has control of what happens next, where Twitter goes from here, and what we should have learned from the months of headlines and controversies. James also delves into the cultural side of the story, and how mixing politics, culture, and tech is something we will be seeing more and more of not only in the headlines but also in campaigns, legislation, and regulation.Jakob Puckett who returns to talk energy policy, gas prices, and the plan - or lack there of - to ease increasing concerns the public has about the current crisis. Jakob discusses how the Biden Administration, like the Trump Administration before it, is seeking to use the Defense Production Act and executive orders to try and mitigate costs, but explains how that is not only a bad idea but also no substitute for consistent energy policy. We also talk gas prices, nuclear energy, and the recent Supreme Court decision in WV v EPA.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/heard-tell/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Your Heard Tell Show for Monday, July the 11th, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on the Biden Adminstration catching flack from their own side for the White House's reaction, or lack thereof, to the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v Wade. The president issued an executive order on Friday regarding abortion, but that isn't quelling complaints of not having a strategy and response for something everyone knew was coming for months, we'll discuss it. Steve Bannon is back in the news, we'll turn down the noise on the headlines about him being "willing" to testify before the January 6th committee and get to the real motivation, reasons, and plans of the wannabe Trumpworld Machiavelli. Our guest today is economist, Heard Tell favorite, and Ordinary Times contributor Jericho Hill who joins us to talk about the economy in very practical, real life ways. Jericho talks about the weird, unusal, and seemingly contradictory economic numbers and headlines, what is causing them, and what it all means. Plus, we get into some really practical economic application based of a hiring advertisement at a popular fast food chain, and what it tells us about workers, employers, labor market, and the current issues in the service sector economy. Your Heard Tell for Friday, 27 May, 2022 is turning down the noise and getting the information we need on trying to get accountability for mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, and how "known to authorities" and "slipped through the cracks" are newspeak for unaccountable folks who didn't do the jobs they should have ahead of time at the expense of innocent lives. We go to India, where the ruling government's push for a Uniform Civil Code regarding such things as marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption in the very diverse and divide population of the world's largest democracy, what it means for human rights and justice, and lessons we can learn from the struggle. Guest Jericho Hill returns, and he has some interesting reporting on a phenomenon going on in the Reddit law enforcement sphere, where moderators tried to shut down criticism of the police response to the Uvalde massacre but the commenters where having none of it. Jericho also brings his perspective on the shootings, talks about how these incidents hit different now that he is a parent, and shares skepticism as someone who has worked in government as to anything positive getting done going forward. Also, he puts on his economist hat and explains an interesting changing in housing data and its correlation to working from home. In politics, Donald Trump is laying blame for his chosen candidates poor performance in Georgia and looking ahead to another name on his vendetta list in Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney, and a marathon running in Buffalo put one participant in the race to sleep in winning. The Taliban orders all women in Afghanistan to cover up head to toe, we will discuss this very predictable but still awful loss of rights to the women of that country. Guest Jericho Hill returns to Heard Tell and puts his economist expertise to good use explaining the latest economic numbers, parsing out good news from bad news when the data seems to be contradictory, and what it means for the country going forward. Also, Jericho breaks down the political implications of the economy, how to properly talk about the issues facing it and part of the debate that we are not discussing but should. Heard Tell for Thursday, March 17th, 2022, is turning down the noise and getting to the information we need on Ukraine's President Zelensky address the United States Congress and once again calling for a No Fly Zone. We break down why Zelensky is doing the right thing for his country in asking for arms and intervention, and why America and others are right to stop short of a No Fly Zone to support Ukraine. Also, we talk about the Theodore Johnson piece that brings the stats and facts that despite the rhetoric of some on the right Black voters are not only staying with the Democratic Party, but are among the most consistent voting demographics. We'll delve into why that is, what it means, and what lessons both Democrats and Republicans should take and apply. Guest Jericho Hill is back on Heard Tell, and our economist friend helps us cut through the caterwauling over gas prices and inflation to get to what is really going on, who to blame, who gets credit, and which party has the better narrative at the moment. Jericho also helps explain how uncertainty is one of the biggest factors in the current economic situation, how Ukraine is affecting the global economy, and how things like Russian oligarch money parked in sports teams and yachts change the economic calculus. Plus the story of youth caregivers, and how the situation of young people helping to care for elderly, sick, disabled, and others has always been a thing, but in modern times needs addressed, identified, and tracked to get services to those who need it most. Heard Tell for February 14th, 2022 is turning down the noise of the news cycle and getting to the information we need about the most popular, best polling candidate of each and every election cycle, the "generic" party poll. We get into why this usually helpful tool is misused in the news cycle, not to properly applied the polls about "generic" Democrats and Republics, and how to better utilize this polling mainstay in a contentious election year. Also, we get into reporting on the "after action" reports on the Biden Administration's conduct during the Afghanistan withdraw, why/how decisions made affected the chaos of the US's pull out, and that some of the obviously bad calls at the time look even worse in hindsight. Guest Jericho Hill returns to once again talk economic numbers and headlines, this time discussion the CPI reports and what that means regarding employment numbers, inflation, and the state of the economy. Jericho breaks down how this is one of the most interesting, unique, and complicated economic times we've ever seen, how to discern all the numbers and news narratives being thrown around, and helps explain the seemingly contradictory economic numbers. Plus, we discuss affordable housing, equity, lending, and lessons from the 2008/2009 crisis compared to today. There is scientific evidence out now about hugging, so we will believe the science and discuss that, and finish up with a story about a man who used his children's birthdays to get a big pay day. Our friend and Economist Jericho Hill thinks that while concerns about the economy and inflation are justified, there are media story lines and narratives that might actually be making things worse than they are. And he would know about putting on a show with narratives and story lines because before he was an economist he had a cup of coffee in the pro wrestling business working behind the scenes and even performing as a referee. So on this episode of Heard Tell, we are turning down the news cycle noise on inflation, talking about how politics is faker than wrestling, how inflation is real but can be manipulated, and compare which hurts more: those Ric Flair-like chops to the chest hurt or the economic data we are seeing.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/heard-tell/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Crowned Heads Started late 2010 with the hopes of not being a regular cigar company. They chose to be an aspirational brand. Headley Grange Black Lab - Riff off of Headly Grange. 2nd release in 2012. Wanted the cigar to taste like the drum riff from the Led Zeppelin song, When the Levy Breaks. The drums were the inspiration for Headley Grange. A different wrapper was added and called the Black Lab after a black Labrador retriever at that same house. Juarez - 2017 Jon got samples at a trade show. Loved the samples he received and wanted to see if they could mass produce the same flavor. After a number of people passed at the blend, Jon decided to release it on his own. A riff on Jericho Hill, this cigar is amazing and deeply complex. How he's inspired and motivated to make unique blends Artwork for the Las Calaveras band. Worked on it with Jaime Garcia and My Father Cigars. How his favorite Las Calaveras is the 2015….or is it the 2019? The only way to find out is to listen to the episode. This week the guys were thrilled to be joined by Jericho Hill, an economist for the US government, moderator of /r/badeconomics, and a former Department of Justice statistician. They jointly discussed housing economics and all things electoral - from Republican shenanigans to Democrat-proposed voting reforms and the actual incidence of voter fraud. Jericho also shared some of his experiences as a former professional wrestling referee, why he is not a neoliberal (but is a hardcore YIMBY), and his pride in watching subreddit users meme their way into political relevance. Cigar industry veterans, Jon Huber & Mike Conder, founded Crowned Heads Cigars. Jon along with his partner Mike both share a long history and also worked together at CAO Cigars as the Director of Lifestyle Marketing. Crowned Heads philosophy – When the rules don't make sense, carve your own path. It's been quite an impressive path, too, with cigars like Las Calaveras, Four Kicks, La Imperiosa, Jericho Hill, and J.D. Howard Reserve, to name a handful of their successes. First, check out our sponsor for this episode, the TRAPP Society's upcoming special project set in the world of the Dark Tower. It takes place between books six and seven, and aims to correct some of King's more egregious indulgences. The characters include a survivor of Jericho Hill, the High Wizard of Brooklyn, a shapeshifting badass from Dungeons and Dragons, and so much more. The show isn't available just yet, but head to the Shattered Worlds RPG podcast feed to hear the first hour of your newest podcast obsession. shatteredworlds.libsyn.comI can't believe how long we've been doing this series, but damn this feels like it's been going on all my adult life. And now it's over, and I'm left with so many questions and so many moments that I want to know more about or still don't completely understand, as I'm sure many of you also felt when the series ended. Miles and I spend this last episode answering questions submitted on Facebook, Twitter, and email from all of you, asking us everything from how we'd rank the books in order of favorite to least, who we would have killed off and why, which characters we want to know more about or see in the story more, and all kinds of other things. We had a really good time chatting about the series as a whole, and we discuss the fact that Miles came into the recordings unsullied with knowledge of how it all ends. Thank you all so much for listening, for leaving reviews, for submitting questions, and we wish you all long days and pleasant nights. Toodaloo, mothafuckas. Jericho Hill joined me in studio this week to debut 5 songs from their brand new album!
The War for the Tower (A TRAPP Society Special Project) Friends, welcome back, and thanks for listening to this very special episode. We'll have more Talon and our fresh new superheroes next week, but for this week I wanted to share something I've been working on that I'm really excited about. It's an actual play pod set in the world of Stephen King's Dark Tower. It features tons of other actual play podcasters (as well as some rad new arrivals as well as voice actors) and it's gonna be great. If you like this show, you're bound to love The War for the Tower. Our first five or so episodes are gonna be character creation and backstory episodes. Before we drop the first full group episode, we should have a website and Twitter and Patreon and all that stuff, but until then we'll be sharing these early eps on our own podcast feeds. [a couple spoilers for the book series right here] This first Backstories episode features Chase Greenlee, GM of Another Path, an awesome actual-play podcast. He's playing a young gunslinger, trained by Roland and one of only two survivors of the battle of Jericho Hill. He finds himself helping out a small town of kids, and gets in over his head. [spoilers done] This is the first of several Backstories episodes, and they're all great. If you'd like to help us make more of these, and especially to help us add music, spend more time editing, to create art for the facebook page, or all that other stuff that makes actual play pods so much fun, please consider donating to our Patreon. It's not up just yet, but it will be very soon. Until then you can help us out in a myriad of ways. Email us at: warforthetower@gmail.com Help us make the best show we possibly can make, and make something that you can feel proud to have been a part of. Together, we can save the multiverse! PS The system we're using to play this game is called Space Kings. It's a super robust, fast, exciting, and easy to play game created by the awesomely cool and funny Kevin Cole of the podcast Pretend Friends. Find him on twitter: @RealKevinCole

We know the "what" of Gilead's fall, but now we know the "how". Bryan May and Murph Murphy join me to continue the journey of Young Roland, as we watches the seeds of Farson and Marten's treachery take root in Gilead and tear it to pieces. This episode covers the trade paperbacks "The Fall of Gilead" and "The Battle of Jericho Hill".
Hile fellow Gunslingers, prepare yourself for another Palaver.
