Point: Who or what you worship will determine how you live. Who or what you believe Jesus to be will determine what you do with what He said. Scripture: 1 Peter 1:1-2; Matthew 16:13-20 Questions: 1. What is the most important question you have ever been asked and why? 2. Read 1 Peter 1:2. How would you explain the Trinity? Why do you think we should at least have a general understanding of the relationship and work of the Father, the Son, and The Holy Spirit? 3. Who do you say Jesus is? How close does your everyday life match your answer? 4. Do you find yourself trying to fight off sin more than allowing the Spirit to empower you to overcome it? How can you better allow the Spirit of God to work out of your life? 5. How does rightly understanding who Jesus is and owning His position in your life everyday change not only your life but impact the lives around you?
Rather than discuss a single question, this episode addresses several questions. The questions generally surround the topic of the Trinity, especially as it is represented by Jehovah's Witnesses. -Why can't the Christian community come to a conclusion regarding the Trinity?-Why did the Trinitarian church kill masses of people in the middle ages?-Is Jesus the same value and status as Adam?-Why did Jesus say, "The Father is greater than I"?
Is drinking alcohol a sin? What is the Trinity? Why does God not answer my prayers? Why don't more miracles happen? Who gets to go to heaven? You have questions and we believe there are answers that come from God and His word. Pastor Monte Gannon looks at five questions asked by the congregation in the first sermon of the "You Asked For It" series. Thanks for joining us! It seems that new discoveries are being made every day in a wide range of areas. But, no area of discovery is more important to us Does God really exist? Most of us would answer that question without hesitation; “Yes, God is real.” But, have you ever thought about the evidence of God’s existence? Our current series is entitled "The I Am Series," and it’s a little different from many of the series we do here at Cross Culture Church in that we’re taking a few weeks to look at subjects about God that people sometimes have questions about. What is the Trinity? Why does God allow evil? Does man have any part in his salvation, or is it something God has already decided for each person? We started a couple of weeks ago by looking at some of the arguments and evidences for God’s existence and today, Pastor Clay is going to dive into a few more of the arguments and evidences of God’s existence.
Consider Genesis 1:26 without a Trinitarian interpretation. We read, ”Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness . . .” How do we approach resistance for interpreting this text as not referring to the Trinity? Why does God have to announce he is making man in "our" image? If all of the members of the Trinity are equal to God, which Christian theology affirms, the Persons of the Trinity should all have had the thought simultaneously. Is it being announced to beings who are lesser? The pattern is that God will decree something and then beings of his entourage or council will be drawn into what God intends to do. Explore Kings 22:19-22. God allows participation. It is up to that spirit to carry out God's decree. Explore that Daniel 4 is called the decree of the Most High and also the decree of the Watchers. Consider Daniel 7 and the Divine Council meeting. The idea of the image being functional or representation is important. The image must make humanity unique and we do not get it incrementally. What is the image of God? The image of God should be viewed as a function or role. We are created to represent God. God's image is a status. Consider that Eden is the place heaven meets earth and the two families are connected. God initiates covenant relationships. The only way the Covenants would be kept by humans was if God became one of them. All God's covenants are fulfilled in the death and resurrection of Christ.
On the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, Fr. Javier del Castillo reflects on what we know (by Faith), and what we cannot comprehend, about the three divine Persons of the blessed Trinity. What you’ll hear: - Why God created us - How the three Persons of the Trinity are distinguished from one another and how they are not - Our desire (and inability) to comprehend the great mystery of the Holy Trinity - How St. Athanasius fought to keep the mystery of the Trinity whole - The heresy that Arius taught about the Trinity - What the First Council of Nicaea and the First Council of Constantinople reaffirmed about the Trinity - How Jesus Christ is the “gateway” to the Holy Trinity - How St. Josemaria used the number 103 to explain the Trinity - Why studying the Trinity takes intellectual humility Quotes: “The Trinity is eternal love. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have been in love from all eternity, before the foundation of the world. That is all there was, there was love.” “Because love is seeking always to share the great happiness and joy that it possesses, the Holy Trinity has freely, without any need, chosen to create us, to have creatures with which they can share this great happiness that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have had from all eternity.” “It is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who create. It is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who save, who redeem and forgive our sins. It is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who sanctify us…. Because anything that God does ‘outside of God’ is done by all three persons.” “We cannot understand what the Blessed Trinity is, and how this mystery of love has decided to create us in His image. Our heart cannot understand that, and it is too big to fit in our minds. And yet, through Faith, is has been revealed to us that [The Trinity] exists, and that it is truly the end [goal] of our existence.” “Instead of thinking of our relationship to God as spousal, St. Josemaria liked to think of it as filial. We are children of God, in the Son.” A GUIDE FOR MEDITATION: We encourage you to write down moments from the meditations that strike you, as well as the thoughts, inspirations and resolutions that arise from your prayer and reflection with our Meditation Journal Sheet.
