Signs of Jesus: Jesus Turns the Water Into Wine John 2:1-12 Sunday (9-22-24) night Bible Study

Only the disciples and a few servants saw Jesus turn water into wine at the wedding at Cana. John highlights how this quiet miracle confirmed their belief that Jesus is the Christ.
In this episode, we delve into the profound and awe-inspiring gift of miraculous powers, as outlined in 1 Corinthians 12:10. We will explore the nature and purpose of this gift, discuss its operation within the body of Christ, and reflect on biblical examples where miraculous powers were vividly demonstrated by the Holy Spirit. Our springboard for today's discussion is: 1 Corinthians 12:10: "To another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues." This passage highlights the diversity of spiritual gifts bestowed by the Holy Spirit, emphasizing the gift of miraculous powers.Miraculous powers represent one of the most dynamic and visible manifestations of the Holy Spirit's work through believers, intended to edify the church and witness to the world about the power and presence of God.Exploring the Gift of Miraculous Powers:* Nature and Purpose:* Divine Empowerment: Miraculous powers include extraordinary acts that go beyond natural capabilities, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, and controlling natural elements, serving as a testament to God's supreme authority and compassion.* Edification of the Church: This gift is intended to build up the body of Christ, affirm faith, encourage believers, and authenticate the gospel message to non-believers.* Operation within the Body of Christ:* Through Faith and Obedience: Those gifted operate through deep faith, often following direct revelation or prompting by the Holy Spirit, emphasizing God's sovereignty and the believers' dependence on divine guidance.* As a Collective Witness: The operation of miraculous powers within the community enhances communal faith and unity, drawing attention to the transformative power of the gospel.Biblical Examples of Miraculous Powers:* Jesus Turning Water into Wine (John 2:1-11): Christ's first miracle, which not only showcased His divine authority but also symbolized the transformative power of the New Covenant.* Paul's Healing of the Lame Man (Acts 14:8-10): Through faith, Paul commanded a man lame from birth to stand up and walk, which he did, leading many to believe in Lystra.ConclusionThe gift of miraculous powers is a clear demonstration of God's active involvement in the world and His desire to work through His people to manifest His kingdom on earth.A Question of the Day: How can we more effectively foster an environment within our church communities that is open to and supportive of the operation of miraculous powers?Growth Challenge: Reflect on a situation in your community or personal life where a miraculous intervention might serve the purposes of God. Commit to praying earnestly for this situation over the next month, seeking the Holy Spirit's guidance on how to proceed. Document any instances where God moves in a miraculous way.Let's Pray: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of miraculous powers, which not only edifies Your church but also glorifies Your name. Help us to steward this gift with humility and faith, always seeking to align our actions with Your will. Empower us to be bold in our faith, trusting that You are able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. Amen.As we continue to explore and understand the gifts of the Holy Spirit, let us be ever mindful of the power and responsibility that comes with such gifts. For the past six Sundays, we have learned about the following signs: Turning Water to Wine (John 2:1-12) ... Healing an Official's Son (John 4:46-54) ... Healing the Man at the Pool (John 5:1-9) ... Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-15) ... Walking on Water (John 6:16-21) ... Healing a Man Born Blind (John 9:7) ... In today's preaching entitled, Never Say Die, we will dive into our last sign, where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Bill Bright quoted, “With God, life is an endless hope. Without God, life is a hopeless end.” May this sign instill in us the hope the is brought about by the resurrection of Christ. It is our prayer that as we come to the last sign, we would fully believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him, we will have life in His name (John 20:31). Good morning, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the class of 2024, and all the kindergarten through college graduates, on their academic success. Wishing you the absolute best in your future. In life we can be so wrong about so many things, in fact the longer I live, the more life I experience, that notion proves to be true often, when it comes to our presumptions, assumptions, and opinions. Likewise, there are times when we cannot always believe what our eyes may reveal, as they only paint a brief picture in a broad and rapidly changing landscape. There is an old saying, “never believe what you hear, and only half of what you see.” The is a bit of truth that rests in such a statement, as we become more eager to rush to judgment, or to have someone suffer the gravest of consequences for an unjustified hurt. And unassumingly, not understanding the gravity of what we ask, we ask God for immediate payback, equal satisfaction for what they have done to us. So many await such judgment today, losing hours, days, and weeks of our lives on something that is beyond our grasp and our control, 19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. (Romans 12:19) There was a gentleman I rode to work with every day, he did not talk a lot, and to me he seemed a bit smug, as he would always sit in the front seat. We periodically attended church together when services were available, and I would wonder, why is he there. It was communion Sunday and as the elements were passed, we were reminded of its purpose, to serve as a reminder of the Lord's death, until he comes once again. As we partook of the elements, they were shared with the stipulation that both wine and grape juice were available. That Sunday I sat behind the gentleman that I considered to be quite peculiar, and said to myself, “I know he's going to take the wine,” as he looked (to me) as someone to would partake in such lavations. As the tray reached him, I said, “ah ha” I knew it, as he selected the wine over the grape juice. The tray finally reached me, and I retrieved them as well, and when it was time to take them, I suddenly gasped, as I had inadvertently taken the wine as well, as I was immediately convicted for my thoughts and the deeply held perception I had. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (John 7:3) It was not long thereafter that we became wonderful friends, sharing stories and laughing about so many others. Today's episode is titled. Grape Juice & Wine John 7:1-2 1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david66634/message

This week we examined the first miracle in the Gospel of John: Jesus turning water into wine. As we read this famous story, we noticed that God provides abundantly in seasons of emptiness, particularly through prayer, obedience, and enjoying His gifts.

In today's episode, we discuss the first miracle ever recorded in Christ's ministry. We look at the setting very closely, and pull several things out of Jewish culture. There are several amazing things wrapped up in what seems like only one miracle, but many things took place in this one event! We examine Mary, the waterpots, and what had to happen to the water in order for it to turn into wine. We also dig into a few more things throughout this very interesting miraculous happening. In our Q&A, we received and interesting question: I hear Holiness ministers throw off on other ministries like Joel Osteen, Rod Parsley, Kenneth Copeland, and Creflo Dollar, but it appears that they are doing good. Can't God use these people too?We are certain you will get something out of this today!

Verse by verse study through the book of John Chapter Two and Verse Ten
Jesus' first miracle is turning water into wine at a wedding. Why did He do this?
We know as believers that Jesus is God personified. But why is that essential? What we believe about Jesus determines whether we will spend eternity with Him or separated from Him. John wanted people to know that Jesus was fully God and fully man, so he chose to write about the signs (miracles) that revealed Jesus' glory and divine power over all creation. In this episode, Tiffany looks at the first sign, when Jesus turned water into wine. John begins to build a case for who Jesus is with a sign: Jesus turns water into wine at a wedding celebration. Jesus turns what would have been an experience of shame for the groom into an opportunity for celebration in the lives of many.
Turning Water to Wine: John 2 I was excited to start reading these chapters only to discover that we were reading about Mary again! I love reading about Mary. Jesus and Mary are at a wedding feast. Traditionally, as you may know, the best wine was served first, while everyone could enjoy it, and as the night wore on, the wine quality slipped - if you will. They filled them to the brim, it says in verse 7, with water. Then He tells the servants to serve it. I love this. There is so much to learn. Mary asks Him to help. He doesn't know exactly what to do, and even asks, “What have I do to with thee?” What do you want me to do Mother? What are we hoping He'll do? What are we expecting of Him? He used this water and pots that were used for purification. What an incredible symbol of Him and His mission and what will become of Him. Pure. He takes this water meant for purification and makes it the BEST wine the ruler has EVER hard. He gives this to the ruler at the end - when the wine has run out. How often have you ever felt worn out, ready to give up, gone. But then Jesus … He shows up in your life in a small, simple way - but it feels like a miracle, b/c it is. He will always show up better than we can imagine. He will make our water moments in life turn into the best wine that we actually can not imagine. He will always make our lives better than we ever could or can when we are willing to turn our lives over to Him and start living for Him. Woman at the Well: John 4 I love that there are a handful of stories about women who are unnamed in the scriptures. This might sound strange - but I love that these women allow us to put ourselves in their lives in a different way than those who are named. I am also very excited for the day when I can meet these women and find out what their names actually are and talk to them about their experiences with the Savior. As I believe most of us are aware, the Jews and the Samaritans were not on good terms at all. In any way. If a Samartian had even touched some food or water Jews considered it unclean. They did not associate in any capacity. This is one of the reasons the woman is so surprised that Jesus is talking to her - let alone asking about water. After asking for a drink, and the woman questioning Him, He says in verse 10 … Giving a small hint that maybe He is someone who can offer her something different, or is someone different. In verse 11 she calls Him “Sir”. She asks if He is greater than Jacob's well? He says inverse 14 … She says, “Sir, give me this water….” in verse 15. Jesus then asks her to go get her husband. She says she has none - and Jesus responds by letting her know about her personal life. After hearing these words, in verse 19… She's gone from Sir to Prophet. Jesus testifies of things to come, and she says she knows about Christ in verse 25-26. The beautiful thing that Jesus does is meet us where we are. Elder Holland so beautifully says, “...He met the student where she was in order to take her where she needed to go.” The woman knew about the well, she knew of Christ coming. She said she knew about Christ - and He revealed that He was that Christ. He takes what she understands and teaches her with those things. He will meet us where we are along the covenant path and in our various journeys. He knows us so individually and will allow us to become closer to Him in a variety of ways that may differ in specifics from one person to the next. However, He will always come to us and reach towards us - no matter where we are - and He will love us.
